7th Heaven / Re: Intermittent Crashing After Battles
« on: 2020-05-26 22:00:37 »
Yet again, I guarantee you are making another common mistake. It is the entire reason why I wrote the guide. Read it. Dollars to doughnuts you are leaving hash marks (#) in front of values in the cfg file, turning them into comments and not anything to be loaded at runtime.
I wouldn't be writing that post if I didn't think I did everything accordingly. You are right, I had to remove "#" in front of lines. I think this step preassumes knowledge that the average person doesn't have, though. I've been messing with config/ini files before but never had to "uncomment" a line before changing it.

did you follow my own guide or just the readme on the ffnx github? I am willing to bet that you misread their instructions or made some other common mistake.

follow my guide and it will work, if it doesnt for some reason come to the discord and we will figure it out

http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=19932.0

Be aware though, if you are using windows 7 then that may be the cause of the problem as well. Odin is working on a fix for that, but there is an old version of ffnx that you can download that will work with win7, read about it further in the thread i linked to my guide
It was my mistake. I initially put the FFNx.dll into Resources\Game Driver and changed the name to "7H_GameDriver.dll". This step confused me because there is a file with the same name in the game folder. Turns out that when you put the same file in the wrong place the game will refuse to start. Anyway I got it to start now but it's in a tiny window and it will ignore any settings I changed in my FFNx.cfg.

I have if problem, too. It's very annoying. There are some areas in the game where I literally couldn't progress because of the constant crashing (battles at Mt. Nibel for instance) where only launching the game without mods would let me progress further.

I tried installing the FFNx driver according to the instructions on github for people that have 7h installed, it made the game unlaunchable, though. So I'm hoping for an official 7th heaven fix.

General Discussion / Re: FF7 Remake Teaser
« on: 2019-05-10 13:34:39 »
It looks fucking awful. No turn-based battles meaning it's pure button mashing with no tactical depth (perfect for all the casuals out there), pathetic looking pseudo-realistic anime characters that look just like in the movie Advent Children and cringy fully voiced dialogue. No thanks. I already had some pretty low expectations though, so I can't say I'm surprised. I'm just glad there's still an active modding community so I can just enjoy the original with updated graphics that stay true to the original.

To use this resize tool, just follow the instructions here : https://github.com/xinntao/ESRGAN
By the way i'm making now a new full upscale pack (video, battle, fields) with a more complex method and some manual tweaks (release maybe in 2 or 3 month):

Well that page doesn't really explain anything I was just wondering where I can download this converter.

6
You may want to try https://github.com/xinntao/ESRGAN
I'm trying it for some days and can produce great results :

ESRGAN with some gimp cleanup:

On some other scenes it's harder to found a good value :

By the way if you're interest in a great simplication of fields resize i'm doing a software that will automate most of the process
1)i've generated all layers of all animations in full picture (with mixing layer if possible to lower the total number of picture to resize), that's the "base" pictures
2)i've generated all cut mask in 4x resize (with a vectorisation tools and imagemagik) for all single picture (right now i'm testing ingame for bug hunting ^^)
3)i've make a software for cuting automation
So when all will be tested i'll relase it and all you need to do is resize all the "base" with your favorite tool, put them in the soft, and it will generate all the folders ready to import in palmer with palmer frontend

So far the whole software is done, i need to test ingame and correct cutting layers by hand if i found some bug in autocut.
i might release the software and a howto in one or 2 month.
Looks very interesting, how do I use this though? I also don't see a release there.

thanks guys xD

I worked on another one. I know that this one is already done but I wanted to do it by myself xD.

elmtow

Your fields look quite similar in style to the ones from jmp434 so they will work great together in the game, good job.

8
Sure, here you go xD:

Great work considering you only used photoshop. This is the next best thing to an actual rebuilt rendered scene. Actually could probably improve a lot of scenes in Photohop by simply painting over the upscaled versions and bring in some more detail.

Looks pretty amazing already, you could improve the lighting a bit and add some kind of ambient occlusion.

Thanks for the great work Grimmy, I guess this will be THE definitive FMV pack for the game from now on. Makes you wonder why Square itself didn't use the Toshiba DVD footage for the steam re-release...

Qhimm is to small to  attract moders or artists. That's why (and because it's easier to find tools) I made a guide on Steam. When I finally have more spare time I will update my mod on the Nexus as well. Another problem is that it is still time consuming to mod the game. Parts  of the game are still not modable and the tools we have are not state of the art, because they are developed by only a hand full of people.  :'(

That is true. Qhimm is not that well known of a place, actually there are still lot's of people that don't even know to what extent you can actually mod the game.

Nice work on the midgar model. Can't wait to see it with textures, lighting and particles. :D

Yeah, that's not uncommon.. look at the disaster that was Silent Hill 2/3 HD port..

I think most here would know most of the stuff in that article, not much new I think - unless they showed more of the prototypes in the videos, I didn't check those.. (now that would be interesting)

Most companies didn't care about preserving source code and assets back then. They didn't realize they may be producing classics that people still talk about even 20 years later.

Working in progress to find epic musics, if someone are insteresting of wich music i took don't hesitate
One exemple, for nostalgical ff8's fan this song is really nice :)

WIP / Re: [WIP] FFVII and Godrays/Global Lighting?

I think it looks kind of over the top.

The vanilla one. I can't stand those orchestral remixes. I like the FF VII Soundtrack with the original sample based instruments because they had character.

Looks very nice so far. One minor critique: The carpet looks like fresh from the factory. It could use some little dirt/dust. Maybe some dust and cobwebs on the bookshelves as well^^

Full pack re uploaded, contains everything (field, battle, world map....).
Link in first post.
Also corrected and optimised some field and battle background.

Very nice, hopefully the update will find it's way into the next 7h catalog update.

There was a FF7 snowboard game for phones as well?? I only remember the bike one.

7th heaven mod manager
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15520.0

Can you make your fields into a mod?

Pouvez-vous faire de vos champs un mod?

They already work with 7th heaven. You have just have to put them into a folder within the 7h mods folder, then they should appear in your list. If you're using a field pack, be sure to put jmp434's fields at higher priority. ;)

Great work as always. I wish I could help, but 3D modeling still is a mystery to me. :/

Team Avalanche / Re: [FF7] Recreating scenes in 3D

I already did and the answer is no not really. The camera isn't in the exact position and some of the objects are the wrong size. So it looks great as a still, but when put in game the layers don't line up and you get crazy clipping. like walking behind the floor and on top of the counter etc. If the artist has the original file still he could fix it up using the tutorial and then it would probably fit.

Maybe someone who understands the process should get in contact with him then, since he's planning to make more of these anyway, he might as well make them with the correct camera position and object sizes so they can be used in the game.

The Mediafire links are dead again.
Use 7h and get the mod from the catalog. ;)

Check it out. Someone else did something like this you. It's only the 1 though:

Looks awesome, can someone convert this to a usable background? There's a high-resolution version available on the artist's page.

Why only the old PC port, what about the Steam version? I can't find any mods for the Steam port backgrounds.
You can convert the Steam version, since the old PC port is pretty much the most supported version for mods.
