I had this problem too. Run it in Administrator mode and it should work fine! I think it's related to the Vista feature of moving non-admin aware programs in the 'Program Files' directory into it's virtual directory! Hope that helps! =)

Troubleshooting / Re: No sfx on Creative Audigy
« on: 2007-02-25 23:52:56 »
Is this SoundMax device a built-in thing as it might be conflicting with your SB perhaps? I can't say I have heard of the SM device but if it's some kind of onboard sound chip then try disabling it from your BIOS and see if the SFX run with just your Audigy.  :-)

Hmmm that's really what I was getting at! I love the way quite a lot of them work precisely how they are meant to in the PSX version and that was the idea of what I was going to try to do with a little help. I can compile all the sounds into a sountfont, though I don't know if they need looping or not, and then re-patch the MIDI files to the sounds. Might need a bit of testing but I'd feel really happy if it all worked! ^^

I wasn't bitching I was simply making a point...

Just to stop all the pointless posts asking if there is a fix.

5
wtf is a "sountfront"? :P
You must be seeing things it says Soundfont... I didn't change any errors I made... honest... >.>

6
Yeah sure I could! At the moment I'm sleepy but I'll try to get them all uploaded by tomorrow!  :-)

Hi!

I seem to have a crapload of free time at the moment and nothing to spend it on... and I was thinking of picking up my now 2 years old idea of making the FF7 Soundfont from the original PSX samples. I have all the instruments ripped from the PSX version and so now all I need to do is compile them all into a Soundfont and then edit the MIDI files and link them up to the proper patch and edit a few things here and there. This will also include the OWA lyrics. I could do this all by myself I guess but anyone wanna help out maybe? I haven't been here for a while so I don't know if I have missed anything like this but it's do-able!

Wheeeeeeee! Thanks for ya time!  :-D

My MIDI Driver is:

SB Audigy 2 ZS Synth A [CCC0]

I can set this to the B option too but still it does the same. It makes no difference on whether I select General MIDI or XG or anything. The only one I got to work was the ZS Sw Synth but it's really bad... I've never had any problems using the main synth options before and MIDI works fine elsewhere aside from the game.

Hi!

As soon as I start a new game, when the train FMV has finished playing, i get absolutely no MIDI music at all until after the first battle is finished. I'm using an Audigy 2 ZS but it's never happened before. Any ideas why it's doing this?

I've looked around an awful lot to see how people are progressing with fixing this... and that's just the problem. It seems all people are doing is querying how the search is coming along and nobody is even working on a fix for it. I see only 2 options... either a huge mass spam email attack to the developer (MUAHAHA!) or a very good coder comes along and does what FF7 had done to it and somehow edit the executable. Is there not anyone on these forums who is talented enough to do something like this, maybe reverse engineering or something like that? ^^

11
Wish I had an ATi card now... XD

As for the fix, I can't see anything that can possibly fix it then aside from a patch of some kind. Would any of the possibilities below assist in creating one?

  • Compare the FF7.exe with the 1.02 version to see what was changed [assuming that the 8-bit fix was bought in through 1.02] to see if it helps with the FF8.exe fix
  • Convert the 8-bit textures to 16-bit [though I heard this might not work]
  • See if anywhere in the FF8.exe it asks for something 8-bit related and change it to 16-bit?

Yeah they probably all suck as I don't know too much about programming or how it works, but someone has got to know a way to fix this. If it could be done on the older FF7.exe then this shouldn't be too much harder. No programmers skilled ennough to be able to find the problem or it need a proper game programmer? =(

May I ask what happened to the frame rate patch for the minigames? Is that still beta or did it get finished?

13
Not as far as I know, hehehe!

I think the guy must have meant the non-nVidia patch... hope this works!

14
HELLO!!!

Whoa it's been AGES since I visited here, hehe! Hope your all doing fine!  :-D

I got reminded about the forums when coming on a possible fix for this FF8 black box problem. Apparently someone has managed to fix it using the GeForce 6 range of cards using hardware mode by patching it with the official 1.2 fix, however NOT the nVidia patch but the ATi one... I haven't tried it yet but it's apparently worked for someone so good luck if it does!

Releases / Hmmm...

Heya!

I tried installing it but I got a check error and nothing was patched. I did it after updating FF7.exe to 1.2 and installing the chocobo fix so am I meant to do it before the chocobo fix? Sorry, I can't remember whether it is this or the minigame fix that had the chocobo race fix built-in!  :D

Archive / sYnerGi is any good?
« on: 2005-11-05 22:19:15 »
Hi everyone!

Wow... I am BACK!

I'm sure everyone has probably forgot about me though so never mind...  :weep:

As for the topic, does anyone know if this sYnerGi SoundFont is worth getting? Well I am getting it right now, and hopefully I will get it working in the SB Audigy 2 ZS but does anyone have by any chance another example of what it sounds like other than the motorcycle music? Thanks!

EA has the worse technical support ever.  Their replies all semme automated.  I specifically say I use the latest driver in my e-mail about a game and the only suggestion they give is to update my graphics driver.  Bunch of morons.

Hi!

Hehe! Yeah I agree 100% with you on that one! Here's what I got:

Make sure that you have closed any programs or tasks running in the background
as sometimes one of the programs can conflict with the game.  Background
applications such as anti-virus programs are often the cause of conflicts.

Hold down the Ctrl, Atl, and Delete keys at the same time
This will bring up the "Task Manager", follow the steps bellow in order:

1) Click the "Processes" tab.
2) Click on the gray bar that says User Name to sort by user name.
3) Do NOT select anything for SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or NETWORK SERVICE.
Click on anything besides EXPLORER and TASKMGR for this User Name or other user
names.
4) Click on END PROCESS
5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 until only explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe are open for
this user profile.

I'm going to need some more system information. Can you send me the information
from a program called dxdiag.exe.  To do this:

1.  Go to Start -> Run.
2.  In the box, type the following: dxdiag
3.  Hit "OK"
4.  Click the "Save All Information" button on the first screen of the
application.
5.  Then on top of the "Save As" box that pops up, click the arrow just to the
right of the "Save In" box, and select Desktop, then click Save.
6.  Finally, attach the dxdiag.txt to your email reply.

After we receive this file we can continue troubleshooting the issues at hand
and hopefully come to a solution.

Keep in mind that FF8 is not officially supported by winXP.

Great, huh? Heehee! :D

Hi!

I remember contacting EA about this problem a while ago. I am sorry to say the only answer I got was to update my graphics drivers. Seriously, do you think that game companies think that nobody tries these things? :D

Hi!

Is there a problem using the .minipsf files or something? Also... could you provide more details...  like plugins used and other settings?  :D

Hi!

As many of you will know there was a sound missing from the PC version of FFVII that was in the PSX version... it is when Cloud uses his 'Omnislash' limit break. He holds his sword up and there is meant to be a sound played when it flashes but it's not in the PC version for some reason... maybe because the sounds overlap or something? Anyways, do you think it would be possible to restore this sound to the game... or is that too complex?  :-?

Hi!

I've heard this one before! A lot of people get confused by it! Hehe! They get confused not knowing that usually a person discusses the Final Fantasy IX Piano Collections CD, abbreviated to PC. Hehe!

Hi!

I'll say this sort of related thing here so I don't need to start a new topic. For those who don't know already, if you have a GeForce FX card, upgrading the drivers to the current version and doing the texture option will now show the missing black boxes as complete.
