General Discussion / Re: A quick question.
« on: 2009-11-06 03:36:00 »
Pheonix no, only becuase it Overwrites Battle LGP and so forth, you would have to re-install APZ and such.

Well, I'm not sure exactly what the installer does since I didn't make the patcher.  But it would be absurd to replace the battle.lgp since we didn't even touched the battle models yet.  Anyway, I'm working on a new installer that I'll make from the scratch.  This way I'll do exactly what I want to do with it.  Mainly it'll be totally automatic, secondly it won't mess any other patches since it's gonna automatically extract the current LGPs then copy only the files needed then make new LGPs.

The flashing materia will be fixed on the next release.  I'm also planning to make the installer myself so it will be totally user friendly.. in fact I intand to do it so that the user won't even have to do anything all will be done automatically.  I didn't talk to ice cold about it yet but I don't think he would mind.

Okey, that's quite enough now.  This thread is about the FF7-PRP not some english school.  I agree that it's important to have the best english possible in a forum so everyone that is looking a the posts can understand them.  But, hey, the guy is greek for god's sake!

shadow_stalker7: Just learn about the rules(triple posting: meaning that you can't post multiple posts in a row) and try to capitalize the first letters of your sentences("s" becomes "S") and add "." at the end of it and they will probably cut you some slack.

Now, if you have other complains about his english, or mine for that matter since I'm not an native english speaker myself, just PM us instead of filling a thread like ours of these posts about grammar.  These useless pages makes someone who wants to read the thread before posting to give up and ask a question that has been answered in the past.

That said, can we please move on and talk about our project that is the FF7 PRP?

Thanks for your attention.

I asked Ice cold about it and it seems that there are 3 lgp files in there.  I'm not sure why but I'll add a function to my program to extract them out since there are not needed for the char.lgp.  I'll try to sort them into different folders.  Thing is: they share the same HRC structure... so I guess I'll have to make a database from each LGP files to know where the HRCs belong.

Hi everyone,

Lately, I've been working on a little program that gonna detect all files that every model need in separate folders and discard every other files.  This gonna clean up the project and help organize the models when working on them.  Later there will be a option to take every files in every folders back together(still by discarting every unused file).  I also added a little error detector in case some HRC or RSD files have been corrupted with everyone that are working on them.  So far I found an error with Aeris when she has the flowers... don't know if it has been fixed though since I don't think I made my tests on the lastest files:-P. So well.. if anyone had any problem with this part of the game it's gonna be fixed on the next version....(if not already)

While making my tests it came to my attention that the original char.lgp has 385 HRC files where the PRP project has 422.  Since it's the game itself that calls the HRC files it makes no sense that our project has more HRC than the original one.  Anyone knows why ?(of course I'm asking to the member of the project since most user won't know what I'm talking about :-P).  If no one knows why, I gonna add an option to clear every HRC that aren't on the original LGP.

Also Borde contact me when you have the time I found a bug with kimera that I can help you with while I was debuging my program.

Hey,

haha it's been a while.  Looks like there is two new member of the team.  That good since many most of us didn't have much time to put on this project.  I might do some models this summer if I have the time I'll look into it.

Well just wanted to say Wellcome to the team !!

See you.

But with the default FF7 res the people get. Fat.. and everything get's REALLY stretched... and that annoys me  :|

Is your monitor a wide screen ?  Maybe you're just not in your native mode.  If your native mode is wide screen and you use a 4:3 mode then the image might be stretched.  In that case you might be able to fix this in your graphic card settings (flat panel scaling for NVIDIA's cards... don't know about ATI's) just set it to :"use NVIDIA scaling with fixed-aspect ratio".

My question is, The NPC RP didn't do the battle models of the characters,

I once worked on some models that could be used for battle.  I then decided to focus on finishing the field one since then are uglier than the battle ones hehe.

Though I didn't worked much on this project lately for I lack the time, I'm telling you all that I'm still here and will start again as soon as I can. :-)

Archive / Re: Background Replacements

Actually, if I recall correctly, we can't improved the background easily because even if we put filters in them they will always look blocky because the game itself limits the resolutions.  Even if you could filter them and make it look really nice in 1280x960 or more, once in the game it would still look blocky.  Beside, I'm not that sure that the PSX background were in higher resolution; keep in mind that in a television you have build-in filters. But I can't say for sure if they are the same resolution since I have never messed with PSX backgrounds myself.

Troubleshooting / Re: FF7 Disc Problem
« on: 2008-07-19 14:34:43 »
must be illegal to do this.....

Well if I understand you correctly you own the game you just want to back it up.  In this case it's not illegal though I believe the copy protection of the disc won't allow this.  If I remember correctly FF7 is one of the first game with a copy protection.  Of what I remember there is a file somewhere that takes less space that it actally shows so when you try to copy it on a new disc it says that it exceed the capacity of the disc.  Furthermore if I remember correctly they even a bad sector on the disc by purpose to make it harder to copy.

... the textures are very jagged. Like it needs Anti-Aliasing...
If you mean that the backgrounds are pixeled, there is nothing you can do about it right now.  AA or AS won't do any good because the problem is that the game uses a too small texture and, it's hard to make them better because, if I remember correctly, the game uses some kind of grid of a determined size to apply the image.  Some people once worked on this issue but no one manged to fix it yet.

Well you can use Biturn to convert .tex to .bmp.

You can't use only photoshop to improve your models.  The only thing you can do with photoshop is improve/create your textures.  Unless you only want to improve the eyes and mouth, you need 3DS Max to map your textures to the models.

« on: 2008-07-13 21:55:01 »
I am brand new to any sort of modding or tweaking, and I really wanted to try to put the models from Advent Children into my FF7 game.
Well to begin with, you would have to get your hand on these models (which is very unlikely) or do them yourself (which is a hell of a job considering all the details on these models).

I have the game and movie legally, but I dont own any other programs or anything that I could use to do this
Well, there is no program that can do what you want because you can't simply rip a model from a movie.... it's all prerendered.  What you need is 3DS Max to make the model, Pcreator to convert the model to FF7 3d format and a hell lot of talent in 3d modelling/texturing.  Once the model is done you gonna have to make sure that you cut all the parts of the model (arm, hand, chest, head) appropriately because FF7 doesn't support skinning so all the parts are cut (the parts can't bend when moved, they simply rotate or do basic movements).

15
Personally I don't think you should worry about that as I said I ran my ff7 with that patch for like a year or so before I read here that there were problems with this patch.  I never really noticed anything unusual.

16
Well, I didn't know about the virus.  Anyways, I played with this patch nearly one year without knowing it was kinda "bad".  Basically the changes it did to your system is replacing the default DLS file.  So your midi will sound a bit different.  Beside that, I've never experience any problems in my time with this patch (and to be honest I haven't noticed at the time, I know this only because it have been said somewhere in these forums).  So I don't think there is much to worry about(especially if you have gone as far as to do a system restore).  You might want to check for virus just to be sure, but beside that I'm pretty sure you are just fine.

Just trowing ideas out there but since the PRP messes with the required files (you did edit a few .p files if I'm not mistaken right ?) would it be possible to consider including a fix for that particular scene in the next release ?

We did edit a lot of .p files, but it won't help here since it's probably the game itself that calls the wrong animation(so .a) so it would require to mess with the code because if we modify that particular animation files it will mess all the other characters that uses that animation (it probably uses Cloud's animations for a character that doesn't fit with them).  Maybe someday it will be fixed but it's not at all in our priorities (well not in mine anyway you might ask to the others if you wish)

The first file is aaaa.hrc, actually.

IT is aaaa.hrc so that's not your problem.  Hum... make sure you have a REALLY clean install.  Delete everything and start from the begining your file may have been corrupt for some reason. Are you using the US version ?

Archive / Re: Anyway of shrinking the bone structure?
« on: 2008-07-02 21:49:27 »
The "+" and "-" option always work while shrinking bones... that's the idea: it shrinks bones.  But it doesn't shrink the P parts, you have to shrink them with the bone XYZ scale or with the P editor.

Woah, stormmedia is back. Any word on the already completed NPCRP being uploaded somewhere? :P

Already completed? Where the hell did you hear that.  I don't think we even at 75% yet... Anyway, if you want a working link to the actual patch I have posted one at the second page of the FF7PRP topic.  But be aware that I'm pretty sure that there are some bugs on this version though it's probably playable(didn't tried yet for I have no time...).

Yeah I think you'd have to alter his animations to fix that.

Does anyone actually know why that happens?

I'm not sure but I think that the reason is that, in this particular occasion, the game calls for a standard ff7 animation instead of a specific Vincent animation.  If I remember correctly, Vincent uses some more bones than standard models.  If they used an animation that doesn't fit the number and settings of the bones, it would explain why it's screwed up.

Yeah there is. Apparently some people find it easy, some find it hard :/
This guy used a hex editor to do it.
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=7319.0

No need of an Hex editor.  You can either do it with the notepad or with Kimera.  With kimera it's a lot easier though, just select the bone you want to shrink and click the "-" button of the length (of course if you want to make it longer you hit the "+" button)

Hope it helped.

Thats interesting that the FFVII engine doesn't have a hard limit for triangles in a scene.. Even more modern engines like Source have hard limits as to what you can do.. I know that's no license to go crazy with the triangle count. I was thinking anywhere from 5k to 6k is probably adequate for character battle models, 500-600 for weapons, and varied for the monster characters.

I work primarily in 3D Studio MAX, I use it at work all the time so I use it in my home projects too. Is there some reason that it can't be used? What software is everyone else working with?

You shouldn't use that much polygons for your models for Final Fantasy VII because the background will look even worst than they already are because of the detailed models.  To put ultra detaild models on a poor background is almost as bad as puting ultra squared models on a  poor background. (weird sentance but I think it's understandeble hehe)

And I will give you the two reasons why I don't use 3DS Max in the PRP Project anymore.  One, it's takes more time to do a model.  Two, there are some peoples who were always waiting for me to talk about a model made in 3DS Max to start complaining about the fact that it kill the true nature of the game or something like that.... (don't worry folks I'm not angry with you, just pointing out the fact that there is some people who don't like it, that's all.).  However if you want to do models with 3DS Max you can convert it now with the program Pcreator and mess with all the parts and textures until it looks like you want.  But they won't be on the PRP Project because we want all the models to have the same style until it's finished.

Just posted that post by mistake... and I can't seem to find the delete button anymore.  Have it been moved ? (or deleted) anyway if I can't do it myselft please any mods delete the post I'm writing in.

Hello all,

Just wanted to let you know that now that I have finished all my exams I have time to work on the project again.  Right now I'm just cleaning up some models for I noticed that some of them or a little messed up.   While I'm doing this I'm testing all of them fixing little bugs that I can find and adding lighting to some models that have been forgotten hehe.

Anyway just wanted to tell you that I'm back on the project

See you!
