I can't say for certain, actually. I do know they yield less glitches. Except for a few exceptions. But those are easily remedied. But the debug process is quite painful to sit through for those. While I can fix disappearing NPCs for the objmaps, I haven't found a way to fix the disappearing party members. Er...I don't have the original bitmaps for the objmap since my computer upgrade. I could probably gather them all back up tonight, though. Especially since that's much easier for me to do. If you could come up with a solution and we could dump them, that'd be great.
Try this for the missing party member:
Go to the location where the glitch is happening.
Put Tonberry in Debug mode/get textures just for this one scene!
Instead of opening the 'nomatch' folder, open 'replaced' and look for the bitmap that has the missing Character, which will also have one of the other Characters that is on the same texture bitmap. Now go to whatever .png you made originally and add that Character to the opposite side (top/bottom) of the .png so that it looks like the bitmap you found in 'noreplace' This should be the fix you're looking for.

It's funny you should mention Bugs, I actually came across one late in my evening when I made it to Disc 2. During the D-District Prison when Zell is your main character, he is both missing when "Mean Guy" is kicking him (which was absolutely hilarious) and also while running around the various floors as your Party Leader, you simply see his shadow. Battle Field was unaffected and functioned normally.

got a question on the pack, you said we could use which ever squall we want, low or high poly, well im kinda new at this so i am wondering if you could tell me which one is default (which on it uses when i just put the files in the folders) and what i need to do to change it to just use one? i noticed you said to rename them, but i dont know which one to rename XD (been having a glitch where squalls textures pop in and out, like its using the old ones and then switchs back to new ones, so i think this might be the issue)
yes, i think i figured it out by completely uninstalling and reinstalling the modes. so i think it was just me having a mod in there that was conflicting and didnt remember. but now im running into another issue, when squall does his blasting zone it freezes the game and i have to force close it. the only mods i have is the ones that mcindus (probably spelling his name wrong :P) mentioned in the tonberry enhanced forum (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15945.msg223951#msg223951 (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15945.msg223951#msg223951)) and this one. so ive gotta figure out which one is causing the problem now ><

Yeah... That's one I've been wracking my brain over to figure out. For the most part, I think I have a solution to most disappearing characters. But there are a few exceptions...and that's one of them right now. Just let me know if you come across any more spots where characters disappear on you. That way I can try out this method in those spots to see if it solves anything.
ok so far i noticed if you have irvine and rinoa (rinoa in the third position in menu) in the party and you go to bridge on balamb garden to control it, rinoa disappears, used zell and she reappears, she also disappears in the space scene before you get on the ragnarok, and also some parts when shes on the ground (havnt tried it with irvine not in my party) in space........
also wanted to let you know the spaced suits apparently have the skin of one of the characters instead of the normal white color..

i know they were a known issue just figured i would let you know since it was only when i had irvine in my team (didnt know if it was general issue or if some of them needed to still be pointed out)

I can't pass the catching rinoa is space part because her character dissappeared. How can i get through this? :cry:
I've decided to finally release a new version of this mod. So I now present v1.1. This version should fix almost all disappearing objects in the game. A tradeoff is still a few textures reverting. But no where near as bad. There are three ways this might happen... One, certain areas where you go into battle. Afterwards, they might revert. Please let me know the areas where this happens so I can fix it. Two, using the Magical Lamp to fight Diablos. Since you can fight him at almost any time and in any area the textures are numerous and will take quite some time to collect. Three, a certain party combination in a certain area I missed. Again, let me know about it.
Things I've added:
-A couple altered costumes. (Some still need some tweaking.)
-The rest of the weapons for the Student Uniform battlers. (Nothing will revert back now.)
-Tweaked textures.
-Changed the gunblade texture for certain moments. (Consistency mostly.)
And most likely some other things I'm forgetting at the moment. :P
You no longer need the objmap for this mod. You can either delete it or move it to the disabled folder. But I'll leave the 1.0 version up for those who still want to use the objmap if they still feel unsatisfied.

Can anyone help me out? I tried to install Tonberry/Rebirth by flame/Project Hellfire. I am not seeing the effects of the mods. Right now I have the following setup with no success, if I am doing this all wrong, I'd really appreciate the help XD, here goes:
Tonberry is under the file locat: C:\Program Files (x86)\Final Fantasy VIII\ (I don't have a common file under steam apps just the Final Fantasy folder under program files)
In Tonberry: Debug folder, hashmap, objmap, collissions.csv, hash2map.csv, prefs, and readme.
Under hashmap: RebirthFlame_hm.csv
Under Objmap: ProjectHellfire_hm.csv
Under debug: error0, nomatch0, nomatch20, noreplace0, replaced, unsupported0

Yeah. Second to last in your settings. You could mess with your resolution to see if that helps. But if "Original Graphic Mode" is checked then it's always going to be pixelated. Hope this helps.
Sorry, I meant the components/files that came with Tonberry v2.04. Or rather, put everything that came with v2.04 into your directory. Which will replace all the old files. If you've completely updated all of Tonberry, then I can't think of much else. I'm really not that tech savvy sadly.
Does Lunar Cry work for you? Because it should all work the same. If they all work but mine then perhaps something is wrong with just RF? No problem. Just want everything to work for those interested in this mod.
I updated from Tomberry v1.6 to 2.04, copy and paste the files and folders. I missed something updating Tomberry? Something new between 1.6 and 2.04, like a new objmap etc?When I'll to mod my characters, I cann't do that maybe cause by my tonberry v1.5 and I change with tonberry v2.04.

This is my steps if you'll to try :
First, I cut texture contents and tonberry contents to another place.
Next, extract tonberry v2.04 to your FF VIII folder and replace that's all.
Then, cut texture contents and tonberry contents that you cut previous to new tonberry folder in FF VIII folder.
Later, place the tonberry contents like RebirthFlame_hm, ProjectEden_hm, and etc to hashmap.
Play and enjoy !

There appears to be an issue with Selphie. Now and again her texture will not load as displayed here for example.

I've also encountered this in Deling City, when everytime I left General Cararway's Mansion, she would dissapear.
The other place it has occurred from me was in the prison district, but it didn't happen for long.
Thought I'd mention this now as it is becoming some-what regular.
I should also ask if you're still using the objmap. Because if you are, that alone causes a lot of disappearing textures. If not, maybe I've corrected a few things lately that I've been working on without knowing.
And no, I'm not using any of them. I remember reading here to delete them before I even started playing.
I do have a clip in deling city, but I need to compress it first.

Sure enough, removing the "ch" folder from my "Textures" folder temporarily fixed the issue outright.

Hey guys im having an issues with RF, no matter how i install it, it will not work. i have tonberry 2.04. Lunar cry works great along with all the other mods. ive also tired RF 1.0 but that hasnt worked either. when ever i put the hashmap inside the hashmap folder none of the mods work. but outside the folder just inside the tonberry folder they work fine with the exception of RF. The ch files are definitely in the texture folder. idk what the deal is, and i cant screen shot while in game running off a mac unfortunately. And i cant attach the screen shot of the folders for whatever reason. :cry: Thanks.(http://)
It's odd how all seem to work but RF. You're putting the "ch" folder in the textures folder right? You're running it off a mac? Are you using Wine? Not sure if this would screw up how the directories work or not.

Hm... Tough to say, then. RF works just like any other graphical mod using Tonberry v1.61 or higher. They all roughly follow the same steps to get them working. And you said others work, too... Now as for why Tonberry isn't working properly for you(like the files only work outside their folders), I couldn't tell you because that isn't my field. Perhaps someone else could help with that.
What I meant was I remember reading through the berrymapper thread months ago and you FatedCourage and Mortael I think re-did squall's gunblade and a few other weapons if I remember right? I was wondering if this mod also implements those weapons?

this is what i was trying to post earlier just how the folders are set up. I also tried using berry mapper and im in balamb gardens so even the "should" work but doesnt. ive tried mix and matching folders here and there to no avail. i may just erase everything as start from scratch :cry:

Well, for starters, I believe the .dll files are supposed to be outside of the tonberry folder. Not in it. I also don't think there is a need for "hash1map" if you're using the Project Eden hashmap.
Just wanted to post something to show I'm still working on this. Still looking for areas with disappearing textures and bugs. Although, I have managed to fix one thing that was annoying me since I got the PC version of the game. That was the instruments for the concert. I know, very minor thing, but I like that scene.

Turns out some of the instruments were pulling the textures from the wrong area. So I managed a workaround by placing the correct one there. Still testing to see if it causes any issues. Once I'm confident it doesn't, I'll update the pack.
I've tested it on GFs as well. But Ifrit should be a good example.

This mod is for character's...for the most part. Now I could do something separate for battle backgrounds, but I'd hate to conflict with anyone that might be working on them... I'm also really bad at cutting out certain area's that should be transparent. :-P
Well whatever you did to the battle backgrounds in the picture above was a pretty big improvement, and I don't think anyone else is working on them or at least if they are they haven't said anything on these forums.

Thanks FatedCourage for creating this awesome mod, i have a problem though. At the end of Disk 1 and now on Disk 2, i noticed that Squall in battle, the textures change back to normal, other characters work just fine. Any suggestions on this problem? Thanks again for the awesome mod.
EDIT: I fixed the problem, don't have to worry about it anymore, it was the weapon Squall used that caused the problem, it was cutting trigger, switch to the other fixed it for me. Thanks
Hello, this is a really nice mod :) Thanks for your work here but I've found a missing texture, while riding a chocobo. There is no texture for this sweet chocobo :(
I've searched the hashmap RebirthFlame_hm.csv and found out, that "char_sqworld_13,12571052299668781849" is doing this bug (1st entry in *World Map) after deleting it, all textures working fine.
May be this is helping others.

Even now, huh? Looks like the best action is for me to just name them one thing rather than split them up to prevent it from happening. Since I'll never be able to figure out which codes do and don't cause that to happen.

Back in March, Devina released an image slice that replaced Quistis's fisheyes with FF/KH style ones. A few weeks ago, I took all 6 Quistis textures from the pack, and replaced the eyes with Devina's new ones. I noticed you posted those awhile back. I meant to ask you if you wanted them added to the RF pack or just remain separate. I would also put them on the SeeD Uniform of Quistis and on her low poly models as well. You know, consistency and all that. :DI'd be fine with them in the pack, and I didn't mean to neglect her SeeD uniform texture, I just couldn't find her textures in any other folder. The low-poly textures would require the eyes to be dumbed down in a specific way, and I didn't know if I could get that just right, since the other textures just needed a simple drag-and-drop.

As for the hashmap and textures... They should all be there. The codes are only for the battle models. I haven't gotten around to their low poly models. So if they aren't loading in battle, then I must've messed something up somewhere.
oh no, it's working in the battle. i mean Fujin and Raijin new texture are not work in the field like Seifer ...etc...

Then all is working as it should. Like I said, I haven't added those in yet. I probably will, soon. I'm working on updating a few things on this project and others.
I'm having a problem with seifer's head texture where I can sometimes see right through the side of his head. I'm using Tonberry 2.04 and the other character models I've seen don't seem to have this problem.
Finally updated Rebirth Flame to v1.2 after a long while. Perhaps too long... But hey, my fault. Life can be...fun sometimes.
What I've done:
1. Tried my best to update low poly Fujin's textures. Though... The bad UV makes her face look...terrible.
2. Everything else (that being Kiros, Ward, Edea, Raijin, and Rinoa's party dress) have been upscaled.
3. Reupscaled and updated a few textures.
4. Added Devina's version of Quistis and added low poly versions of that as well.
5. Updated the hashmap more.
6. I've split Mago and Devina's textures into two packs. That way you can pick whichever one you like. (I've updated the front page with some pictures.)
There might be more...but I can't be bothered to remember. I'll add it later if there is. ::)

Super update, fellas. It's like you touched upon all the stuff I've always talked about needing fixed, but never could since Mago ghosted the forums. And the Devina eyes look so nice.
First of all i want to thank all the modders/artists who made this mod.
But i don't see any eyes blinking when they should (ie Quistis and Squall during theyr animations after a victory, or when summoning a GF, etc). Did i mess up something while installing? (Although the models seems to work perfectly apart for the blinking).
Or is this meant to be like this? Are there any chances to see a "fix" on this in the future?
Small update: Fixed up Irvine's legs so they are more consistent. Added a few more hashcodes to the fray. One thing I forgot from the last update was that I changed Zell's face to the more serious look across all models for more consistency. I might reupscale a few textures later down the line, but I'll see.
On an unrelated note to this project... Some people are curious how the FF8 backgrounds would look with waifu. It is something I'm working on as well. Just a long and very, /very/ tedious project. So if you want to see, here is a video with some. I'll upload more as I continue with this and getting battle effects/magic upscaled and looking all pretty.

Hello ! how are you? im new here so i will try to explain my problem the best i can(excuse my bad english) i just installed RF v1.2 and i tought everything works perfect but is not... in some parts of the game the squall body and face looks bad, and in other parts it looks fine. i have been testing and changed some names in the ch folder and it seems that the problem is in the "char_sql"and "char_sqlt" folders, because i changed the name of the pictures in that folders, and the result was that in battles and in some parts of the game squall looks greats but the most of the time it looks like a squall without mods, how can i make it work all the game? thanks!

No problem. I just wanted to see what the game would look like, too. :) The only drawback is I won't be able to get smooth edges like Omzy's with my method. But I'll get a lot less glitched areas.

Yup! That's all normal. That's just how the game is. The quality of textures/models change depending on the field. The other characters are affected as well. So all is good. :)
The reason this happens is because the UVs in the game are off. It seems that everything is scaled too much and cuts off a pixel at the texture seams. this causes strange issues, and in the lower poly models, the issue is much more obvious.
There is a way to sloppy-fix this, but it would be much better for an overall UV patch for FF8 Steam
Small update: Fixed up Irvine's legs so they are more consistent. Added a few more hashcodes to the fray. One thing I forgot from the last update was that I changed Zell's face to the more serious look across all models for more consistency. I might reupscale a few textures later down the line, but I'll see.
On an unrelated note to this project... Some people are curious how the FF8 backgrounds would look with waifu. It is something I'm working on as well. Just a long and very, /very/ tedious project. So if you want to see, here is a video with some. I'll upload more as I continue with this and getting battle effects/magic upscaled and looking all pretty.

Yes, waifu is generally better-looking than Project Eden, but upon closer inspection, many of the areas of Nedus's game are still pixelated, like the up arrow sign. A fully functional installation of Eden would at least make it look better than the original game, so something else is wrong here, whether it's the texture folders or the hashmaps or some other third thing.

In /common/ff8/tonberry i do have collisions.csv hash2map.csv AND a hash1map.csv
I'm not sure if this is ok or needs to be sorted. Anyway, i made some tests: having all 3 files, 1 or 2 of them (regardless which ones), or none of them doesn't change background appearance at all (actually, it seems to have 0 impact on any of the mods i've installed).
But then again, i know nothing of how all of this really works. So, uh, maybe it's all as it should be.
Like i said in the previous post: i made some tests and it doesn't matter which file/s combination/s i keep in that folder. Nothing changes (compared to the original situation). Meaning that Project Eden still leaves some pixelated areas. Other mods are also working as usual.
Anyway, from what i understand "hash1map" is a futile file so, to be sure, i'll leave only collisions and hash2map in the folder. But the issue is still unsolved.

I have the Project Eden mod installed and it does a fine job in refining most backgrounds i've seen (i've seen just the initial part of the game tho, and even found a couple of glitches; no big deal, i'm not complaining ofc, it looks amazing).
But i wonder: is there something wrong with my Project Eden installation, or, are the differences in the 2 screenshots normal? Is all thanks to waifu? If that's the case, wow, so looking forward to that.

I believe this is an issue with SOME problems with ProjectEden - and some missed collisions, etc. Also - this may be an issue with the language you're using. I'm not sure. It should be able to be fixed, but it's an arduous process and I have no time to help, currently.
And I digress - I don't want to flood this post with any more eden stuff. Sorry, FC :)
Hello there.
I've noticed that when a character is petrified, textures get reverted to their unmodified status.
It's funny to see the transition from HD to 1998 graphics when a character gets turned into stone and back, but I was wondering if there is something that can be done about it. Any ideas?
Besides that, as a personal preference, the clothes shouldn't be petrified, I think, when a character is petrified, just the "flesh". Can that be done too via mods?

Ah, someone finally noticed that. Yeah... It's something I plan to remedy once I figure out a way for it to look natural on the HD textures. The same goes for "Zombie" as well. Though, I plan to keep the style original to the game. Perhaps your request can be an optional thing to use. I'll see.

No problem. :) They just have their own set of codes. So, unlike effects like aura, it has it's own unique set of textures. Which means I need to make the HD textures to appear to have the same effect. Like stone and dark green.

I have few question, I'm using the high poly models, the majority of the texture work in most of the areas, expect some(missing the body texture, Head works) I was wondering if there a step by step where I can find the hash code for them I look all over the forum really confuse to finding them, all the low poly work great, but I prefer the high ones

Thanks. :) It's not too complicated. You just go into the Tonberry folder and remove the zero from the "debug" folder. Start up your game, best in windowed mode, and just go into the areas the textures aren't replaced. They'll show up inside "nomatch", I think the folder is called? Use Berrymapper to hash the textures and put the hash codes in the RF hash map making sure to put the correct name/for the corresponding texture in front of the code.
Hey guys, I've got one problem with this mod. Every other mod I installed works but this one doesn't seem to work as intented. I saw other screenshots and my in game characters don't look like them. Or they do? I'm confused. How can I fix it? (newest versions of tonberry/rebirth flame + every file is in right place checked 100 times).

Look at all 3 Quistis in each mod, they are like different persons!
I hope someone can mix the upscaled faces and edited body textures together. This can make the character looks more original instead of completely different "actors".
I would love to see the original faces but with the updated textures for the clothes, I really like the original face look like you did with the "upscaled" version, but the clothes are not detailed like in the other versions. Any chance you could do that?

I can definitely help out with this. I have several texturing programs, and if I could get my hands on a good obj of the characters, then I could easily retexture them... however - the obj's available out there all have UV's that are offset. (outside of the normal UVW range) - and if the UVs are off, then my texturing process is borderline useless. That being said, I can always help whip up a 'mix'

Good day to everyone. I just noticed, but can someone fix Rinoa's textures? Dunno if this was told before, but for some reason her eyes are blue in this mod, while her true eye color is hazel (dark brown). Can someone fix this? Wish i could do this myself, but i can't work with PS and stuff. Thanks in advance.

Whoa whoa whoa I don't think this file is good to use to fix the intro. I would get rid of it if I were you, guys. There are some issues with collisions for other languages, etc.
So this happened to me in my recent playthrough. It happened once for Quistis when Zell was the leader and now as Irvine as party leader. :-o
