SOLVED: The Impassable Whirlwind Maze

So I've been enjoying my updated, working FF7 with Aali's 0.7.11b driver, FMV restoration, texture replacements, and the reasonable difficulty mod, all thanks to Millenia for pointing me in this direction.  :-D

Then I got to the Whirlwind Maze, where for me the whirlwinds show no visible sign of when they are safe to cross. I managed to get through the first via persistence and luck, but the second whirlwind defeated me. After almost an hour and getting sleepy from boredom, I gave up. I attempted to find a fix on the forums here, but the closest that got me was 'try an old driver' (hosted on a website that doesn't exist anymore). I attempted to use Black Chocobo to warp my save to a valid location beyond the wall, but I can't seem to grasp map or the coordinate system in use.

Uh... help?  :cry: It would be super if I could get a hand in figuring out the correct coordinates and/or map to put my save past the whirlwind, or maybe help in tracking down older versions of Aali's drivers.

You CAN actually pass it. It is just subtle. Too much. I am not on my computer right now so I cannot check, but I think it was something like after the lightnings and wind blowing. You can pass, trust me on this one.

There is no lightning. There is no change in the wind. The only thing that changes is the green wave and it seems to be bugged anyway; it spends a lot of the time jumping from one side of the screen to the other side in one frame's time. The location from which it jumps and to which it jumps is randomized again after each battle.

I remember fairly well what it looked like on the PSX and this is nothing similar. If the effect was more subtle on the PC, I cannot remember it as (not knowing about the modding scene) I hadn't been able to get my PC version working in a decade.

Like I said, I spent almost an hour staring at it and never detected an honest change or indication of a safe time. I tried to pass between green waves, I tried to pass between green waves while accounting for the 'teleportation,' I tried to see if the fish bone pattern winds slowed down... all failure.  :| I'm more than ready to seek other methods of getting this sorted.

Disable your shaders in Aali's driver. That might be it.

I think I figured it out! It looks like there's some sort of sync issue or other bug with the green waves; after getting to that spot (2nd wind wall) again, I noticed that when I first entered the screen, the waves were moving all the way across normally and not 'teleporting' as I originally described. So after failing the first try and having to enter the battle screen, the green waves became bugged and would 'teleport' across the screen and/or seemingly leave no opening (I'm not sure how this collision is detected). I solved this by simply running backwards to the previous screen each time I failed. Upon returning to the wind wall screen, the green waves were synced and moving all the way across and I snuck between them.

Thanks for helping me! Even if your solution wasn't the solution (I already have shaders off; game is nonfunctional with them on), it helps a lot to have someone to talk to so I can joggle my dim little brain into working.    ;D

There should only be lightning at the third wind part if I remember correctly. This problem has been present since before Aali's driver, it's always been more difficult on the PC version. I don't think the wind displays as it should.

However I recently did a full playthrough and managed to get through it without getting knocked back once. It's challenging, but you can notice the really small differences when it slows slightly.

The only way I could get past this dreadful part (after failing 50+ times) was to walk along the left edge of the path to get through that green wall of annoyance.  Hope this helps others having difficulty passing this section... Again, walk along the left edge of the path and you should get through there no troubles....

This is a known error with the Facepalmer texture replacement mod.
Deleting the glitched Facepalmer textures will fix the problem.

Ahh, thanks a bunch! That's a lot of textures to throw out, but I guess I can survive.

this is really old, and idk if you're still here....but how do you delete these textures?
