Under 0035 once I have finished install and attempt to start game @ 1280x800 (thats the max res for my laptop) I get a dialogue box telling me that game could not be started in that res in full screen mode and it reverts to original FFVII res 800x640 windowed. It will start in 1280x800 windowed. At first I thought it was because I used 1280sharp FMV's so I tried my normal option of DLPB HQ and same thing. I am going to try install under 0034 this morning and I will post this afternoon.

EDIT:
No joy under 0034 still reverts to original res (windowed). Lastly where does bootleg store temp folders for install I think something went wrong as this install used up 20Gb's of space.... that cant be right.

2
640sharp Part 1 link might not be working keeps timing out on me "401"

Edit: Never mind it appears my wifi needed a reset.

3
Do you have to dl all the parts of those new mods?

4
Been busy last couple days gonna do clean install with 0034 then I will make that video tonight. Also do those three tracks from Bryan Bilocura do they need to be .ogg? Or is .MP3 ok, because I get "said tracks missing!" in bootleg dialogue when installing FF7 music.

EDIT:

Never mind the .ogg bit I figured that out

5
Nope clean install and not using FF7.zip did not resolve the black bar issue.

6
@Riry

I got that "Windows Application1 stopped working" error also but it was resolved thusly:

1: Extract bootleg
2: Place BFE+Pics+Bootleg.exe in your mods folder

Once I placed the "Pics" folder in the mods folder it resolved the error.

1280x960 @ fullscreen did not resolve the black bar issue im having. I am going to try a fresh run and not use the FF7.zip method.

7
The black bar I am getting isn't at the bottom of the screen it appears when the battle begins in the middle of the screen then as the camera zooms in it shrinks and disappears and is gone by the time the characters HP/MP appears. Am I referring to the same black bar? It is present on both my desktop and laptop. Just trying to give as accurate a description as possible so you guys have got something to work with.

8
Excellent! Im sure I read somewhere in this Tut or atleast on this site about it but I was to lazy to look  ;D

9
Is there a fix to correct that black bar when you enter a battle?

Interesting accidental development, I installed FF7 and Bootleg on my main PC this morning (8Gb ram and i5 2500K chewed that sh*t up, 13mins ~flex~). I compressed FF7 install files but I misread install method and did not move .zip to mod folder so bootleg aborted and deleted everything lol leaving only C:/Program files (x86)/Sqaure Soft inc/FF7 and FF7.BAK folders both of which were empty. With no folders I of course could not uninstall and start again.

However I had luckily still kept my FF7.zip from my laptop install copied this over into main PC's mod folder and away it went. So leaves the question to facilitate an even easier install why not have an FF7.zip as a necessary bootleg install folder and remove the FF7 path from bootleg and have it autorun it? I assume this is possible because it obviously does not need to be a FF7.zip created from the users install.

(Edit)
Provided that user has a FRESH UNTOUCHED install.

So I got everything dl'd and using method described by syphus all went perfect and it looks amazing!. No eidos movie at start though but ill test to see if I messed something up.

Im on Vista 32 (laptop), bit of mucking around with USB keyboard to customise controls to laptop so im wondering if it would be relevant/possible to have an option to either default to laptop or numpad depending on platform installation? Maybe a "auto detect > auto select/manual select ff7input installation"

Otherwise thanks! and now im ready to start actually playing this beast  ;D

Thanks guy!  ;D

The materia answer will have to wait until I play through VII as "my" understanding of it is zero unless you want to waste I imagine pages of post explaining it to me back and forth. The junctioning I will take a crack at.....

So from my limited play of VIII my experience is that junctioning  allows you to attach magic to boost certain stats and allow you to boost defensive and/or offensive abilities. Furthermore, correct me if im wrong here, but some junctions allow you a chance to inflict the status of the said magic junctioned either as a status ailment or added damage?

One example that comes to mind straight away is the alignment of day and weather.... sounds cosmic I know but I kid you not ;D Vana'diel has days based on the elements and the same for weather. I.E. if it were Firesday with single Fire weather then your damage output from Fire based magic will be increased by a percentage. In the case of double Fire weather it is increased further again. Equally if the magic you are casting is of the status ailment inflicting type and is fire based then it effects chance to land and duration, which helps in the case of sticking it to higher level mobs. Obviously thats not "junctioning" but using the properties of the environment in a "junctioning" like fashion to boost your magic ability.

For the most part though the comparison comes in the form of equipment. Adding first to what I just wrote are elemental staves as this is a good example, these directly add a pre-set and consistent 10-25% damage bonus to magic damage and chance to land ailments and duration. It is interesting that you mentioned "job classes" as I have to delve into this area to explain further. Staves in the case of the job "Summoner" directly effect the amount of MP used by the summon per "tick". "Tick" refers to MP used every 3 seconds by the summon to remain summoned.

Again "job classes" are important to this explanation. I will use the example of "Thief" as its what I played most. As you level a job you also level its inherent stats the same as for example Squalls inherent stats. In FFXI the stats are capped based on what job you are playing at the time I.E. Thief is geared towards high Agility, Dexterity, Evasion and Dagger skill. There is a whole classing system that determines what level a jobs abilities cap at but as an example:

Thief: (these are just random numbers im using)
DEX-250
AGI-250
EVA-320
Dagger Skill-300
All other stats-150-200

In the case of FFVIII and Sqaull he takes magic and junctions it to boots his inherent stats thereby increasing his damage and/or defensive ability. In the case of me and my Thief I use certain pieces of equipment to increase my stats with the same goal in mind, to increase mostly my evasion and dagger skill was my flavour. I was all about hitting and not being hit.

So you see they compare very closely they are just doing it in different ways, VIII uses magic junctions in the place of equips whereas XI is simply the reverse. With each job in XI you are simply aiming to acquire equips that boost the stats that are desirable to that job, equally in VIII you are junctioning to suit a desired task you choose a char to do.

On a final note some equips in XI will inflict status ailments or elemental damage when you are hit, The latter elemental is always el oh el but the status ailment gear is great but alot of its geared around mages in an attempt to offer some added defensive ability as they are fairly squishy jobs. And I 100% whole heartedly agree that MMORPGS eat your soul hence I dont play it any more 5yrs was enough got pretty bad there for a while but I dont regret it.

Im gonna hijack this topic for one question because it seem like the right spot to do it:

Currently im DLing bootleg and all the mod files.... dam my third world internet speeds. I have a friend who is an avid FF fan he's played all FF's with near perfect saves on all the greats like 7, 8, 9, 10, 10.2 and is currently working on 12. Im gonna show him my modded version of FFVII when im done and I think he will really like it. My question is this:

After I have directed him to this site, to save him time having to DL all the files is it ok to chuck it all on a couple of discs and give it to him that way? Is this classed as "distribution"?

el oh el "EVIL" nah FFXI isnt evil WoW is evil. You would be very surprised at how good FFXI is, it has all the hallmarks of previous FF's albeit in a different structure but hey that's not anything new from one FF to another. I will wager that I could find a comparison to any feature of any FF you pick sir!

I cant seem to get the first three .ogg files under the "sounds" section of your mod links.

Played XI for about 5.5yrs and loved it! It has an absolutely insane amount of stuff you can do but the end game stuff relies on lifeless egomaniacle friendships so I was always a lower high end player. I would still play it but im married with three kids lol and my wife hates me playing it. Some  stuff has been unlocked in the game that makes certain storyline completion alot easier which was a blessing and made it alot more fun. Very very very very very time consuming game lol.

First single player version I played was XII and I really enjoyed it but it was easy to beat and didnt take me very long. I have like maybe a 70% complete save. Just needed to collect every item that kind of thing.

Played X but never finished it, and I have just recently taken up VII and VIII

XIII looked stunning and that was about it for me it was way to simple and not very much fun. I did enjoy finishing it though.

Is this for use with PS version of VIII? Or emulated PS version on a PC?

<choke>

Ok so maybe my process of modding was on the simple side lol. Is this series of mods the way to go? All I installed was FF7 > 1.02 > YAMP > Aali's > PRP > Avalanche > 24bit Menu pics.

Hello

(Total mod newb)

I spent the better part of a day getting this game to work.... I made several cock ups of it so had to do a bunch of fresh installs before I finally got it right. This site and its contributors were a great help so thank you everyone!  :-)

Is there a complete A-B guide for install at present for beginners? I could write a lil sumthin sumthin if there isnt. There are alot of gaps or the info is spread over to many posts so you end up doing alot of searching or guessing.... hence my many cock ups.

Anyways thanks heaps again for all the help these forums gave and thanks for all the great work from the modders excellent job guys!!
