Let's talk about modem connections!

MWAHAWHAAHA....T3 anyone?

mine is just a lousy 33.6k  :(
Even so, it's doing wonders!  :)
I am not a frequent surfer though...so, it doesn't really matters...but it sucks when I need to wait to my MP3 songs in Napster to finish downloading...nevermind also..chat in ICQ while downloading...chat chat chat..HA! Finish downloading! *inhales* the net.

Or mabye we would do a mini RPG story...posted by everyone who wishs to take part.

oakey dokey, this is my desktop. that is a nasty colour scheme you've got there Jedimark.

http://www.completeubb.f2s.com/ubb/desktop.png" border=0>

.png has to be the best image file type out there, how come i hardly ever see it? i just started using it with paint shop pro 7 for my site and its compresses really well.

--EDIT-------
oopsy daisy, put the IMG address wrong.

eerrrr:

Two reasons: 1) Older browsers don't support it 2) It can't match JPEG's compression ratio if you are compressing photos or other such things.

Oh, almost forgot the pictures.   :) It's pretty big download even when downsized and compressed so I'll post only the link.

Smaller picture (downsized to 800x600):   http://www.sci.fi/~jarihu/Preview_Screen.jpg" TARGET=_blank> 128 KB

Full size version (1600x1200):   http://www.sci.fi/~jarihu/Big_Screen.jpg" TARGET=_blank> 484 KB

EDIT: Small fixes.

My desktop:

 http://lightning.prohosting.com/~techd/kde2.png" TARGET=_blank>PNG version

 http://lightning.prohosting.com/~techd/kde2.jpg" TARGET=_blank>JPEG version

It's KDE2 if you're interested, running on Linux.

On a side note, how do you people stand running on those low resolutions? I feel claustrophobic just by looking on those screenshots...

[EDIT: Stupid non-html tags...]

Sorry I can't post my desktop right now cause I'm in college now. I just finished my Maths exam just now. Later I'm gonna have to take my English exam.

BTW, i started a new thread, (you might have noticed) but try not to post in it till Qhimm closes this one.

My monitor will do 1600x1200 just fine, but the damn GF2 is too blurry at that point. So I have to settle at 1024x768.

Here's how my desktop looks like.

http://pwp.maxis.net.my/zhenjock/images/wallb.jpg" TARGET=_blank>Full Size
 http://pwp.maxis.net.my/zhenjock/images/walls.jpg" TARGET=_blank>50% Size

Neat eh?
Usually, my start taskbar is hidden, but if I didn't show it to you guys then it would look just like wallpaper. Look closely at the bottom left corner of my desktop. The transparent My Computer Icon is there.

I'll post my Win2K desktop later.

i looked at your full size desktop SaiNt and it only shows the top bit then it says its done. so should i bother using png on my site? i want my pics to look good. on psp's optimizer for gif it has the web safe colours which are crap, median cut's okay then there's the best one (cant remember what its called). should i just save as gif and make it the best colours? anyway, im making a banner at the moment and its 321K i think. its at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/loiwin/compff.gif." TARGET=_blank>http://homepage.ntlworld.com/loiwin/compff.gif.  can you tell me what to do with it to make it smaller? like which bits should i get rid of? should i just do my banner as a single jpg from the last frame?

You know what's funny?
I just tried to access my desktop screen capture and it loaded ok on my pc.
Maybe the server was down or your connection is bad?
Try and right click on my link and choose save target as to save it to your hard disk before viewing it.
Actually what's really funny is that I can't access your link either eerrr so I can't help you there.

***EDIT***
Hey, I made it to the 9th page!!!

To make the GIF smaller: Don't use fading!!! You could probably make it 1/2 of the size by simply having the logo splash up at once, with the gradual appearance it is currently making you use a lot of frames.

Think about how you can make the image simpler. Just because fading is more technically advanced doesn't mean that the viewers will think "this should have been faded" when viewing it. It's really more about how simple you can make it while it still working...for instance you can make the sky entirely black? That would also save a lot of space.

Eh?
Strange.
I thought this thread was closed a long time ago.
Maybe while importing to phpBB, the closed flag wasn't transfered.

Quite possibly.

Well, I'm putting it down again. 11 pages is too much.
