I explain I'm creating a project called "Final Fantasy VIII Phoenix Rebirth Project" which is to create a great compilation of patches in two versions in English and Spanish languages, with installers for the game Final Fantasy VIII for PC that includes a comprehensive collection of patches applicable to the versions in English and Spanish having or not an NVIDIA GeForce video card installed on the PC, with installation instructions and pictures, details and of course taking their claims to all original authors and project collaborators. Allowing anyone with a legal copy of the game Final Fantasy VIII for PC can improve it and make it completely 100% compatible with Windows XP, Vista and 7 without any problems, mainly correcting the shortcomings of the PC version compared with the original versions of PSX and PSP One, and adding support for modern computers. The name of the great compilation will be "Phoenix Rebirth Super Patch” for the two versions, additionally intended to include additional patches to further improve the quality of play.

LIST OF FINAL FANTASY VIII PHOENIX REBIRTH PROJECT MAIN GOALS:

01) - Create a patch or several patches that give the possibility to improve the game the graphics to be used in Final Fantasy VIII for PC versions in English and Spanish providing the possibility of running the game by default at high resolutions with the option of applying all types of filters textures, ambient occlusion, anisotropic filtering, bound optimization, vertical sync, Triple Buffering and smoothing all types of lines in OpenGL mode with 3D Hardware Acceleration option appears selectable in the rendering selector default configuration menu of the game.

02) - Create a patch or several patches that allow the execution of the game in a manner compatible with modern PC running Windows XP, Vista or 7 installed, optimizing using these patches the original game exe and the official patch 1.2 published by Eidos for English and Spanish versions of Final Fantasy VIII PC in its different variants which are:

A) - Official Patch 1.2 for PCs equipped with NVIDIA GeForce video cards with Final Fantasy VIII in Spanish installed.
B) - Official Patch 1.2 for PCs not equipped with NVIDIA GeForce video cards with Final Fantasy VIII in Spanish installed.
C) - Official Patch 1.2 for PCs equipped with NVIDIA GeForce video cards with Final Fantasy VIII English installed.
D) - Official Patch 1.2 for PCs not equipped with NVIDIA GeForce video cards with Final Fantasy VIII English installed.

Making a total of 4 different versions of Eidos official patches that must be optimized to be of use by default in modern computers running Windows XP, Vista or 7 installed. If possibly including in the two versions of the great compilation of patches, the patches will mention further down in the list of additional goals of Project is also necessary to optimize all the Eidos official patches 1.2 to be compatible with these patches, even creating some unofficial patches from the original Eidos official patches 1.2 with all or most possible amount of improvements applicable to the 4 different versions of the official patch from Eidos.

03) - Create a unified patch or multiple patches to the previous target serving to be applied to both main game exe for the version of Final Fantasy VIII for PC in Spanish as well as in the English version and the different variants of the official patch 1.2 Eidos mentioned above, allowed by the use of either of the two versions of this great compilation of patches to all those owners possessing a legal copy of the game Final Fantasy VIII for PC complete installation of all 4 original game discs in the same installation directory where it was installed Final Fantasy VIII to avoid having to keep changing disks when the game needs to continue to drive change and prevent problems.

04) - Create a patch or several patches to improve the appalling totally musical quality of the PC version allowing the possibility that the game can play all the songs in MP3 format, and so the audio quality of this version can be equal to or better than the original version of PSX (musical package Samuel Slight's Final Fantasy VIII DLS of Samuel is very good but always better music in MP3 format)

LIST OF ADDITIONAL GOALS OF FINAL FANTASY VIII PHOENIX REBIRTH PROJECT:

01) - Create a patch to improve all the original fonts of the game (dialogs, menus battle, main menu, introduction, etc.), providing better quality at high resolutions.

02) - Create a patch to improve the original graphic appearance of all maps of the various locations of the game.

03) - Create a patch to improve the rendering and texturing original graphical maps that explore to reach people and different locations of the game on foot or by any means of transport of the game.

04) - Create a patch which improves the original rendering and texturing of transportation we use in the game.

05) - Create a patch to improve all pre-rendered images of different locations allowing the game look better in high resolutions.

06) - Create a patch to improve the rendering and texturing of all the main characters, secondary and enemies of the game as best as possible. (Example: a patch to improve the model for Squall and Ultimecia that look the same or similar to the models presented in the game Final Fantasy Dissidia that are of much better quality).

07) - Create a patch to improve substantially the graphic look of the game's main menu, especially the static image that shows the title of the game to make it look much better in high resolution.

08) - Create a patch to improve the visual appearance of the menu that we use during the game to see the state of our characters, equip items, link Gf and among other things.

09) - Create a patch to improve the visual appearance of the avatars of the main characters of the game shown in the menu.

10) - Create a patch to improve graphically the menu that appears when we load our saved game to look better in high resolutions.

11) - Create a patch to improve substantially the graphic look of the Game Over screen static that looks so much better in high resolutions.

12) - Create a patch to improve substantially the static images shown in the introduction to the game to look much better in high resolutions.

13) - Create a patch to improve the translation of the texts of the English version and Spanish version of Final Fantasy VIII for PC.

14) - Create a patch to improve the Full Motion Video (FMV), which appear from the beginning to the end of the game to look better in high resolutions.

15) - Create a patch which improves the Full Motion Video (FMV), which shows the logo Eidos Interactive, to make it look better in high resolutions.

16) - Create a patch to improve substantially the static images shown to change discs so they look much better in high resolutions.

17) - Create a patch to improve all the special effects that are displayed when attacked with x magic or any form of attack that has special effects during battles.

18) - Create a patch to improve the visual appearance of the menu that appears in battle.

19) - Create a patch that allows the game to have a small menu that appears when you pause the game, allowing a choice between continuing the game or quit the game to the main menu.

20) - Create a patch that allows for the addition to the main game menu option to leave the game and also add a menu of basic options that would modify: the music volume, volume of sound effects, screen resolution, configuration or keyboard controls, choose image format 4.3 (Normal) increased to 16.9 (Widescreen) and of course save the settings you choose.

21) - Create a patch that allows to have a new game settings menu that allows the following options: Choose display driver rendering mode (Program 3D Hardware Renderer or acceleration), change the graphics options with 3D rendering mode Hardware acceleration enabled, enable or configure the keyboard controls, choice of image format 4.3 (Normal) increased to 16.9 (Widescreen), choose game resolution, sound settings, choose if we want to play the game in full screen or in windowed mode and of course a button to save the settings you have chosen. Besides this configurator should preferably be in operation in conjunction with the packet driver for FF7/FF8 Custom graphics created by Aali (which works quite well) and allow the execution of the game with the correction to the palette in 8-bit textures next in conjunction with the Final Fantasy VIII Launcher created by magixts.

22) - Create a patch to improve substantially the static image of Squaresoft logo that appears in the introduction to the game to make it look much better at high resolutions.

23) - Create a patch that fixes graphics bugs in the background during the battle that occurs when you install the game on computers without NVIDIA GeForce video card installed with the following patches installed:

A) - Custom graphics driver for FF7/FF8 Version 0.7.7b / Author: Aali
B) - Final Fantasy VIII Launcher Version 1.31 / Author: Magixts
C) - Official Patch update 1.2 (Version not Nvidia GeForce) / Author: Eidos Interactive

As shown in the image:

The edge of the mountains shown outlined in black, this is a graphic error.

24) - Create a patch which fixes the bug that occurs in all static images for the game when we put him at high resolution (The problem is shown in computers with or without NVIDIA GeForce video cards installed) with the following patches installed:

A) - Custom graphics driver for FF7/FF8 Version 0.7.7b / Author: Aali
B) - Final Fantasy VIII Launcher Version 1.31 / Author: Magixts
C) - Official Patch Update 1.2 / Author: Eidos Interactive

As shown in the image:

The logo has a visible line that should not be there.

It is important to mention that all versions of Final Fantasy VIII in English and Spanish languages still reproduce the problem.

25) - Create a patch that makes the dialog windows from being semitransparent.

26) - Create a patch to improve all the texturing and the background of all the different scenarios shown in the battles during the game.

27) - Create a patch that allows the possibility of using a key on the keyboard to skip cutscenes (FMV), of the game when we want.

28) - Create a patch that adds a unlockable extra menu in the game main menu, which allows to see all the cutscenes (FMV), of the game when we want.

29) - Create a patch that adds a unlockable extra menu in the game main menu, allowing to hear one by one all the tunes we heard during the game.

30) - Create a patch that adds a unlockable extra menu in the game main menu, which would permit a complete bestiary of absolutely all the enemies in the game.

31) - Create a patch that fixes a strange bug, found in the Spanish version of Final Fantasy VIII, which makes the chorus of Fithen Lusec Vinosec not be heard during the beginning of the last transformation of Ultimecia. This bug can usually appear after a long time to install the game on x PC, and I'm not sure if it can occur in the English version.

32) - Create a patch that adds a new game mode unlockable when finished the game for the first time called "New Game +". In this new game mode enemies and bosses will have a greater level of challenge to be eliminated, will also include a varying amount of extras that will give a replay value to the game after being finished. The types of extras are: several new secret dungeons in different locations, a varying amount of new enemies in the secret dungeons, several new bosses in the secret dungeons, several new events that will be in secret dungeons, new items, weapons, armor and accessories for the main characters of the game (that are reachable in the secret dungeons).

Note: the secret dungeons, after being installed this patch, can be found when exploring the map before finishing the game for the first time, but can only access these new locations, after they finished the game for the first time. All extras included with this patch should not and can interfere with the original script of the story of the original game or in the development of history, all extras are optional (not necessary to find them or know them to continue the game). However the player will give an additional amount of time for fun with the game and a new reason to replay.

It is very important to remember that all these patches with improvements should apply to versions of Final Fantasy VIII for PC in both English and Spanish and they must be compatible with the Eidos official patch 1.2 and different kinds mentioned above in the list of Project main goals, right on the goal number two for all patches be integrated in the two versions of the great compilation of patches (Phoenix Rebirth Super Patch).

FINAL FANTASY VIII PHOENIX REBIRTH PROJECT PHASES:

01) - Included in the in the two versions of the great compilation of patches, all patches that are possible include mentions in the list of main goals of the project, trying to achieve the best possible way to include one or more unified patches patches mentioned in the goal number 2 in the list of main goals (which needs the cooperation of all to find them or create them), which used to be applied to official patches from Eidos 1.2 for Final Fantasy VIII for PC in English and Spanish languages in the different variants are also mentioned in the list of main goals of the Project in the goal number 2, with the intention to allow all holders of a legal copy of the game Final Fantasy VIII for PC that can install the 4 game discs at once without subsequent conflicts in order to achieve that whole game is installed in the same directory and solving the problem that the game asks each game disc every time a CD is finished.

02) - Now I will include in the in the two versions of the great compilation of patches as many patches mentioned in the list of additional goals of the Project be present so that as many patches as possible with further improvements including in the two versions of the great compilation of patches.

03) - Carries out, all the necessary tests to verify that the two versions of the great compilation of patches and all patches created to be included with the game working properly.

04) - Once I have verified that everything works fine, I am creating documents in PDF format with all information concerning the two versions of the great compilation of patches, including detailed descriptions of the patches included, authors, credits, ect, in English and Spanish languages.

05) - Once the previous phase I will compile all the installers of the two versions of the great compilation of patches. Create installers are designed for both the English version of the great compilation of patches as well as for the Spanish version. Several installers are designed to create the two versions in English and Spanish that were created from the great compilation of patches.

06) - Now I create and design menus for the two versions in English and Spanish languages of the great compilation of patches for all installers to be included so that any holder of the game Final Fantasy VIII in English or Spanish language, with or without a NVIDIA GeForce video card installed on the computer, enjoy this great compilation of patches to the fullest without any problems installing any of the two versions.

07) - Carries out, all the final tests to verify that the installers with the menus and options work properly with the game version in English and Spanish version in taking or not NVIDIA GeForce video card installed on the computer, trying everything in 4 different computers:

- The first computer will have the game Final Fantasy VIII English with NVIDIA GeForce video card installed.
- On the second computer will have the game Final Fantasy VIII in English without NVIDIA GeForce video card installed.
- In the third computer will have the game Final Fantasy VIII in Spanish with NVIDIA GeForce video card installed..
- At the fourth computer will have the game Final Fantasy VIII in Spanish without NVIDIA GeForce video card installed.

08) - Now if necessary I will split the two versions of the great compilation of patches to upload to the Internet.

As you can see friends, I am in charge of the major responsibilities of this project, of course because I believe it, and I am the project leader. But being a large project, of course I need the cooperation of many people for it to be a reality in the future. The greatest of victories for all those who have faith in the project and actively cooperate to make it happen, it's time that we were able to finish it in its entirety as it has arisen. In that moment of triumph and will be completely merit of all those who collaborated and made it possible.

NOT ACCEPT ANY FORM OR BE ALLOWED FOR THIS PROJECT:

01) - Use any of the two versions of the great compilation of patches for commercial purposes upon completion.

02) - Change the script of the original story of the game with a patch (The original story will remain 100% unchanged without any changes).

03) - Create patch for the project to change the game mechanics in such things as magic or health of the characters among other things.

04) - Create patch for the project that violate international treaties and laws changing the original credits that are displayed during the game. All original credits its authors remain unchanged due entirely to 100%. Without any changes!

05) - Rename patch to the game by putting things like Final Fantasy VIII Mega Edition. This is unacceptable for this project because it violates copyright!

06) - Illegal distribution of any of the two versions of the great compilation of patches with installers including full versions of Final Fantasy VIII for PC in English and Spanish.

The Final Fantasy VIII Phoenix Rebirth Project is unique and specifically to create a great compilation of patches (Phoenix Rebirth Super Patch) in two versions in English and Spanish languages, with a comprehensive collection of patches to enhance the original game in its PC version, It is NOT include patches to any of the two versions of the great compilation of patches that introduce changes to the game in the script of the original story. This kind of thing will NOT be accepted to place the project under any circumstances!

It is worth mentioning that the goal number 1 for the list of main goals of the Project has been almost reached (being able to improve much more patches that improve the game graphically), goal number 2 on this list has only been partially achieved and that even necessary to make many arrangements to make the game even more consistent, goal number 2 on this list has not yet been reached and the goal number 4 for this list only partially because the music patch named Samuel Slight's Final Fantasy VIII DLS, actually greatly improves the quality of the music from the PC version of Final Fantasy VIII course but always much better quality and choice of music presented in MP3 format for this game.
I must remark that I found a small patch created by the user Phum called [FFVIII] Music ALPHA it is in alpha state and I think it will remain so if not improved by someone who knows how to improve it to increase its functionality as Phum it seems that user was removed from here. This patch just mentioned they can (only in the English version of Final Fantasy VIII for PC) to play MP3 tunes during the game, still a very preliminary tool for this purpose some little problems and no support for computers with 64-bit operating systems besides that is useless for the Spanish version of the game.
I need someone that is listed as collaborator in the project to improve this little tool and can use it with Final Fantasy VIII for PC version in both English and Spanish version with the different variants of the 1.2 patch from Eidos mentioned in the list of the Project main goals in the goal number 2 and also do little patch compatible with 64-bit operating systems.

Has anyone offered?

Here is the link of the tool with their instructions:

http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8734.0;topicseen

The first goal has already been almost completed is thanks to its splendid utilities and patches that have been posted on almost all forums http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php, all of them to post these utilities and patches I give sincere thanks and say that once completed this project will be given their due credit for their work.
As the project progresses I will publish the progress in this same post in the hope that it can be successfully completed in the shortest possible time and that all persons who were part of the development team (Team Phoenix Rebirth) and possible active collaborators Non members of the team by free choice, contribute to carrying out all the improvements that are possible to include in the project, so many things I need from those who are members of the development team or active collaborators Non members of the team, improve utilities and patches below will show compliance with the purposes of the lists of main and additional goals of the project.
Also appreciate all the assistance in advance that they can borrow and do not forget that their collaboration will be very well received and rewarded.
In the next part will show a list of all the utilities and patches that I found on different parts on the internet with their respective direct download and also point out to their original authors and a detailed description of each. The purpose of this is also show you all which of these utilities and patches are required for significant improvement that can be used to benefit this project to the end no doubt I am sure that if completed will provide a great thrill to many.

Thank you all!

You don't need to post it in as many sub forums as you can, posting it once in Game Tweaking is more than enough.

Good luck with the project though.

TL;DR

So basically, you want to organize a project to do for FF8 what we're doing for FF7?

Modifications for Final Fantasy VIII are still in an infantile state... Aali has managed to create a custom graphics driver for ff8 that eliminates graphical compatibility issues and some members have managed to create add-on-esque modifications, but file converters and library packers/unpackers for ff8-specific files need to be written before any major graphical improvements can occur.

Do you have any knowledge of programming or data mining? If so, then exploring and decrypting FF8's filetypes can bring something like this to a good start. Feel free to search the forums and/or the wiki for information already uncovered, although it's not much.

Keep in mind, also, that it's illegal to create a standalone installer for the game and redistribute it, be it commercially or not. A patch that won't run without the original install and game discs would be a better idea.

If so titeguy3 friend, just that I want to do with Final Fantasy VIII. And it's true what he says that are still very in its infancy with FF8, I realized that, that is why I also lively enough to make this project.
I have watched the progress of the users of this forum and really impressed me because although the utilities and plugins that have created them lack even enough to make them much more functional and compatible fulfill its role well enough. My knowledge of programming are not very deep but we say do the best I can to meet the goals that I intend to, so I hope at some point make this project a reality and we have our Final Fantasy VIII PC much more compatible and improved thanks to the valuable utilities created by users.
I agree completely about the comment friend and I think the installer is quite a package can also collect all necessary utilities and patches without installer adds to the package instructions for making the upgrade.
This is my first post and so I also made some mistakes we make but as the newest apénd will correct those skills should not be taken in this forum. Very soon I will post a compilation of all the improvements and utilities that I locate in this forum and around the internet with the intention of showing what they are for each, their strengths and weaknesses, what can be improved, and download links course including their original authors.
I propose to join my project and we help each other so that we can improve all these brilliant utilities that have been created for this project to be gradually completed and that everyone benefits from positively and without incurring any illegal absence.

Thank you for your advice is totally welcome!

Ok so I didn't read much any of that, but I can tell you this, you need to take it one thing at a time or you WILL get tired of working on it very quickly

You're right obesebear certainly this project involves hard work, but I'm ready as far as possible to be successfully completed gradually. This game for me has high sentimental value and therefore worth the effort invested in the game to look much better graphics, can be reproduced the melodies of the game in MP3 format and among other things.
The project will go slowly and giving together with the contributions of all users who wish to help with.
Thanks for your advice and do not forget you are always welcome!

er, i'd say to simply start working on a way to get models into ff8, before the rest of the stuff. Even a way to swap textures would be good.

I really do have to make clear: You can't distribute software with disk images. Full stop. It doesn't matter if you own them, it doesn't matter if your users own them, even the very same versions, it's simply not legal. You cannot distribute without Square's consent. It really is as simple as that, I'm afraid.

You can, however, distribute your own software, built to patch the discs and 'drop in' their content. You also get the advantage that your downloads are a lot smaller this way!

Aside from that, yours is a mammoth project. I wish you luck!

er, i'd say to simply start working on a way to get models into ff8, before the rest of the stuff. Even a way to swap textures would be good.

I am not sure 100% on this but wouldnt the texture injection work with ff8 as well?

I really do have to make clear: You can't distribute software with disk images. Full stop. It doesn't matter if you own them, it doesn't matter if your users own them, even the very same versions, it's simply not legal. You cannot distribute without Square's consent. It really is as simple as that, I'm afraid.

You can, however, distribute your own software, built to patch the discs and 'drop in' their content. You also get the advantage that your downloads are a lot smaller this way!

Aside from that, yours is a mammoth project. I wish you luck!
He stated in this thread that he doesn't intend to release the full discs, that was simply a translation error when he wrote it in English.

These threads really should be properly merged.

edit: Forgot to close my url tag. Whoops.

He is right and I apologize for that because it is a grammatical error in the text I write, my knowledge of the English language more than anything particularly include the reading of texts in both English and pronunciation but in the writing portion'm not very good writing , in case my native language is Spanish. I've been reading the text I write about the project and certainly there are errors that encourage misunderstanding, so I will correct all the text to show it really is what is intended with the project. I was reading the part of the phases and indeed there is a conjugation of Verve error at stages 05, 06, 07 and 08 that rather than implying that these steps are only my personal use, suggests that will be of public use and this is a mistake. This error is exactly here "that lets-you-install" what he meant there was "Thats lets install" without "You", I will correct this.
Since I'm new and this is my first post I made several mistakes like posting the same post 3 times and make some text with grammatical errors, I apologize for that and is welcome to collaborate with the project.
We can help each other and thus achieve many more things working together thank you!

That's right:) thank you very much for making this clarification. And it is welcome if you want to contribute to the project with advice, patches or utilities.

By using the utility "Eight" of Qhimm think we can accomplish this. Here is the link to download the utility:

http://ficedula.aaron-kelley.net/downloads/Eight083.zip

Tomorrow I will post a complete list of utilities created by different authors with detailed descriptions and their respective download link
Many thanks for your advice and welcome all who wish to join the project!

I'm not sure, would be a matter of experimenting to see if it works well with FF8 not it?

Hello friend, thanks for supporting the project. If you really want to be partner of the project there are parts which do not need advanced programming knowledge. Soon I will publish a comprehensive collection of patches and utilities created by users, if possible also publishes tutorials for using tools to extract the game content (textures, models, ect), and thus create some patches that are mentioned in the project goals. Thanks for your support and do not forget that any contribution made will be welcomed and rewarded.

Sorry friend but this is already my final name. The previous change it because I had suggested I do it because that name had a bad reputation here so I decided to change them one last time. Thank you!

As much as I appreciate your enthusiasm, I highly suggest you actually do some work first. I can sit here and make announcements too. For example, that I can make a copy of FF8 that will make rainbows fly out of my butt. However, just saying that doesn't really do anything. I think you must learn to contribute to the community first. I'm more interested to see what you have learned and done. Not what you *going* to do.

Here is a protip:

Unless you show initiative to produce something yourself, we are not going to help you with your project.

Good luck and all that though... :)

When I decided to create the post of project I'm wrong to put my post 4 times, is a misconception of who we are very very new. Officially the only post I want to make this language is English and the other in Spanish. the other 2 that are in other categories may be deleted without problem since mistakenly believe sorry: /.

Actually you are right  :-). First I must I contribute something to the community to expect that users will help me with my project. You are quite right!. Thank you very much for the advice  :-) Will do my part for it!

Please don't double-post. If you have something to add, edit it to your last comment.

I seriously doubt he is ever going to do some coding about ff8.

The project remains friends, but must be patient. A project of this magnitude requires some time to be successful. As members will be joining the development team, the project will have increasingly more fit and be able to launch the first version of the great compilation of patches. Do not get impatient, I guarantee that very soon will have very good news.

Wow I thought no one was working on this?? You'll have a very hard time modding ff8 that's for sure. Good Luck though. :)
Still working on the project but still we have a long and need a lot more people within the development team. Soon the project will have good news friend.

So what are you working on at this point?
I am currently working on translating English into Spanish language, all information of each and every one of the patches and utilities that exist on the Internet for FFVIII (PC), I am also by adapting all the original information in English language, the purpose of the above is to create PDF documents, to include two documents in PDF format in English and Spanish languages on each of the patches and utilities that exist with details, installation instructions, etc.. Order to ensure that all people who speak English and Spanish can use the patches and tools and have knowledge that are useful. Also I have in mind to create installers and patches for all existing utilities, noting of course each and every one of its authors. Then at the end of this step I publish a list of all the patches and utilities with links to download the original version of the author, the version without installer with information and installation instructions, and the version with installer and information including, of all the patches and existing utilities.
I am also working with a collaborator to put the project in other forums and attract collaborators and team members for project development. We are also trying to improve the patch created by the disappeared user  Phum  called "FFVIII MUSIC ALPHA”, which serves to place the melodies of FFVIII (PC) in MP3 format.

Oh also wanted to ask. Are you also working on how to replace the models in the game?? I know this is very hard to do but still it isn't impossible right??
Rather than replace them completely, we think further improve the original. This may be possible using certain utilities created by users. However it is likely to be needed to create additional tools to achieve this purpose. At this time we are not yet focused on this part of the project, later we will focus on this. This project is long and still not have enough members within the development team to make things faster, so we're doing things slowly, step by step so as not to confuse and entangle.
