General Discussion / Patch Location - Help
« on: 2008-12-10 18:54:59 »
Hi all, long time no see  :-)

It's been recently brought to my attention that File Front have deleted three of my patches from their server for a reason they haven't specified to me.  Unfortunately, I don't have a backup copy of the three patches on my computer so I was wondering if any of you, by any chance, downloaded one of the patches and still have it on your hard drive somewhere?

The three patches in question are "Scorpicus' Sephiroth Patch V1.1 - Full" and the "Sephiroth Cut Scene Pack".  See details in the original thread here:  http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6957.0

And also "Scorpicus' Zack Patch - V1.0 Full".  See details in the original thread here:  http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=7256.0

If anyone does have a copy of any of the files, would you be able to upload the file/s to a server such as Rapidshare or transfer the files across to me in some other fashion?  I'm excessively grateful for any help on this.

Hmmmm... I suppose I really should go for one portrayl of Zack instead of mix and matching.  I do like the "new" Zack look better then the porcupine hair he has in the origional game, but, it would be a waste of the actual field models Square gave us to alter them.  So, I'll alter the battle model to go more with the origional character design in the next release.

Thanks for the feedback.

I know there are probably a dozen or so people working on various "Zack Patches", but since almost all the patches are incomplete or their download links eject you to cyberspace, I thought I'd make one.

It allows you to play the game as Zack in the field, battle; chocobo and bike minigames and world map.  The text and icons have also been altered to portray Zack.  There are still a couple of glitches, but it's (pretty much) a complete Zack/Cloud role reversal.

Enjoy!

Download

NOTE:  Both versions install the same patch.  They just have different file sizes/difficulty of installation.

Download the "full" version - 100mb with one file to patch the game automatically:

http://www.filefactory.com/file/a0014ce/n/Scorpicus_Zack_Patch_-_Fu1_zip link fixed

Download the "lite" version - 17mb with a longwinded installation - download this one if you are familiar with LPG Tools.

You are reverted back to Cloud for the snowboard mini game.

Cut scenes still portay Cloud.

Note to NPC Patch Modders:  If you haven't already got a Zack model for your patch, feel free to use my Zack battle model

Note to Sephiroth Patch fans:  I'll get back to working on it, honest!

Downloaded the "ficedula.dll" and put it into your C:/windows/system" folder.  Download the dll here:  http://sylphds.net/f2k3/programs/ficelib/ficelib151a.zip

You may need to restart your computer after installing the dll to get it to work.

Links fixed - about 3/4 of my files disappered from my file host.

Most bizarre.

I made these tutorials a while ago and now, for some reason, I feel compelled to post them.  They're not perfect, but should give a good starting point to anyone who wants to start modding but has no clue where to begin.

Both tutorials are in DOC format.

No, the project has not been abandoned - it's just on a hiatus as I'm busy with exams (and other pains in the butt) at the moment.  Next week, I'm on my Christmas break so, if you're lucky :-D, I might finish work on 1.2 then.  If not, you can expect it sometime late January.

1.1 Bug report:  Apparently, when you get to Cloud reminiscing about when he and Sephiroth went to Nibelheim, during the battle with the dragon, Sephiroth keeps attacking himself and so it's practically impossible to get past that bit.  This problem comes from a mistake in the hex editing and will be fixed in 1.2.

Temporary fix:  You will have to uninstall the patch and play past that part of the game as Cloud and then reapply the patch.  Either that, or skip ahead to a save game just past that point.

The swords will come in version 1.2 - probably the final version.  So far I've made ten swords, just five more to go:-D

For all those having trouble with the movies, carry out this procedure:

Download the full K-lite codec pack:  http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=3803&s=95

Install it, when promted to delete all installed codecs and corrupted entries, select yes.  When you are asked which type of pack you want to install, select the deafult.  At the end of the installation (where it would normally ask you if you want to resart your computer now, read the Read Me etc.) run the ffdshow video decoder configuration.

Scroll down the main window until you find the row with format "True motion 1,2".  Under the "decoder" collumn, click on "libavcodec" and change it to "disabled".

See screenshot of what I mean here:  http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h63/Scorpicus/Sephiroth%20Patch/codec.jpg

Select "apply" then O.K.

That should fix it.  If not, download and install the Upside Down Movies patch here:  http://aaronserv.dyndns.org/hosting/ffsf/downloads/ff7betap1.zip

I would take an educated guess and say no, PSP wouldn't change anything.  Although, I could be wrong.  Emulating the PS version on a PC might work.

10
Version 1.1 is ready for you to download and you've got a choice of three patches!  See first post.

Enjoy!

11
Ah, I see.  ( at myself).

I used it to export all the text from an flevel.lpg that had the Sephiroth/Cloud name swaps to pack with the small version of the patch.  I tested importing all the txt files back into the game and it worked great  :-)

12
Using the export_all.bat/import_all.bat I've been able to alter the text without any issues at all.  However, whenever I tried to open the "fieldtool.exe" the thing came up and then crashed in about a second - it does display some sort of error message but it leaves the screen too fast for me even to press "Screen print" :x.

13
Device:  I did consider changing Sephiroth to Cloud as you have done, but, Sephiroth isn't really Sephiroth without his own animations - it's not his style twirling the sword in the air etc.

The reason there are no programs to edit the battle animations (I think) is that the battle animation format hasn't been totally decoded.  Somthing about it was flummoxing the (awesome  :-D) programmers on here.

You're just gonna have to get stuck in with a hex editor and experiment  :-P  And check out Qhimms wiki - could be somthing enlightening written there.

M4v3R:  Cool - looks like we're going to get a small version of the patch complete with text changes coming soon!

I'm actually creating the auto-installers for V1.1 as I type - might have them uploaded this evening.  I'm spending my friday night doing this cos I'm cool :-P  Version 1.1 solves all the glitches written in the first post (and more) except the battle animations; Cloud in the snowboard mini game; the single Masamune field model not being swapped over for the Buster Sword and Sephiroth is still stuck with using the Masamune all the time for a weapon.

Hey, that's pretty cool!  Couldn't you just use the same icon for Cloud and Young Cloud?

There must be chocobo concept art somewhere...

Well whenever I edit a model, besides resizing and repostioning, the game always crashes when it gets to that model.

Hmmmm... that's never happened to me.

Releases / Re: [Release] Slayersnext's Customized Models
« on: 2007-10-08 22:04:56 »
These models are just too realistic.  They don't fit the animation or the backgrounds.  This may be just my opinion I don't know.  Anyone agree?

I think we need to see them on an actual FFVII background before we can judge.  Also, I think half the battle with avoiding the "poke your eye out-ness" is making sure the models are all of a uniformed style.  Not Disney models mixed with lego men, as it were.  Also, the Disney models arn't that realistic - they still have a very cartoony element about them.

As I said first off, we're gonna have to wait till we see them in-game before we can judge.

*Goes to look through thread for such a screen cap*

18
Well, there's already a Sephiroth patch for the NPC patch - I didn't think there was much point making another one  :-P  You can still use the cutscenes with Ice Cold's patch.

19
Hey, nice modelling.  :-)  I second the File Front idea, but, if the patch is under 50mb you should upload it to:

www.hotlinkfiles.com

That way you can link to the download directly.

20
So you've downloaded the K-lite codec pack and configured ffdshow to disable the Truemotion codec like so:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h63/Scorpicus/Sephiroth%20Patch/codec.jpg

If that didn't work you could try installing the "Upside down movies patch".  That solves most movie problems.  Download it here:  http://aaronserv.dyndns.org/hosting/ffsf/downloads/ff7betap1.zip

EDIT:  I've updated the ReadMe for those who download it next.

21
That's not Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is it?  :-P

Bit of a weird blend of Advent Children, photos and fanart.

Those model conversions and the two heads are awesome!  :-D  My only critique is that you should alter the standing animation etc. to move the arms to the models' sides.  Looks kinda weird with arms splayed out like that on more realistic models.  :-P

I can see where you're coming from with not releasing it untill it's finished - a mix of FFVII models and KH models would be a poke in the eye!  But, on the other hand, releasing it would let everyone test it for ya and dig up the glitches a hell of a lot faster then on your own.  :-)

And yes, changing the battle models (espicially the party members) would be awesomeness on a stick!

I have been working on a few models myself, just for fun, since i'm on holidays, heres few pics  :-D

Sounds like a very intentional "taking credit for other peoples models" to me.  If he wasn't trying to imply that he made the ShinRa MP etc. he would of stated that the models are from Jedi Acadamy.  Some people...

23
Amyfers:  The limits crash the game sometimes?  Is it just Braver?  Feed me info!

And yes, I should totally make a Heidegger/Scarlet date  :-P  Gyhahahahaha x Nyhahahahaha are meant to be together!  Ahem, back on topic...

Sword:   :-D

Sephiroth:  Yep, the patch has to be applied to an unaltered set of movies.  I don't want to upload the raw edited movies as I'm toeing the legality line as it is, but, with a patch, it ensures that you have to own a copy of FFVII to work the movies - I'm not just handing them out to every Joe.  Honestly, I don't think Square could care less that some kid is modding their property, but best to play safe.  8-)

You could back up your new improved movies, reinstall the game, apply the movie patch, then replace all the movies that havn't been changed with your higher quality ones.  The only movies the patch changes are:  "bike,  c_scene2, c_scene3, dumcrush, earithdd, ending1, ending2, fallpl, funeral, hiwind0, jenova_e, nivlsfs, ontrain, parashot, southmk"

It's probably faster to do that, then download another 100 and something mbs anyway  :-P

I've taken the new sword names from a "katana selling" website.   Yay for authenticity!

Ah, I never realised there was a colour picker  :-P

The link to download V 0.84 seems to be down.

25
Well, I've solved the glitch in the cutscenes - I had to disable the True motion codec in the ffdshow configuration.  I've included complete instructions on how to do this in the trouble shooting area of the Read Me.  Who wants to take bets on how many "plz help me im a noob" messages we're gonna get in this thread that could be solved by reading it?  :-D

Anyways, you can download the cut scene updation pack here:
http://files.filefront.com/Sephiroth+Cut+Scene+Packzip/;8721283;/fileinfo.html

All the cutscenes depicting Cloud or Sephiroth have been re-edited to either swap their roles over or in some scenes, where that wasn't possible, edit out the character completely.

Enjoy!
