Red XIII WIP

This work is largely inspired by Timu Simusus Barret model. To continue his style and idea. This is still work in progress, so it's not done. There is still a lot more I have to do on the hair, and his fire tail. Right now I'm having a problem with his hair. If someone could help me out in any way I would appreciate it.

I know this model isn't perfect, so please comment on what needs to be improved!

Red XII information

Red XIII, whose real name is Nanaki, is large, powerful, leonine and coated with fire red fur. His species possesses great longevity, which surprises the party when they learn that his 48 years only amounts to adolescence by his species' standards. Though his real name is Nanaki, he is given the name Red XIII by Hojo, and continues to be called this when the party rescues him from Hojo's laboratory.

Red XIII joins Cloud's group while they are rescuing Aerith Gainsborough from the Shinra building, where Hojo is attempting to breed Aerith with Nanaki in order to preserve what he believes to be two endangered species of animal. Red XIII believes that his father, Seto, had been a coward who abandoned Cosmo Canyon during a war with the now-extinct Gi Tribe, leaving the tribes to fight on their own. As such, he was deeply ashamed of being Seto's son.

When the group later visits Cosmo Canyon, they meet the village elder, Bugenhagen, whom Red XIII refers to as his "grandfather." Here, Red XIII learns the truth about his father, who sacrificed himself to save the village. Finally knowing the truth of his proud heritage, Red XIII, with some encouragement from Bugenhagen, gains the courage to rejoin Cloud's party for the rest of their journey, during which he proves himself to be a valuable asset and friend. He is shown to be alive 500 years after the series along with his two children looking down at the overgrown ruins of Midgar.

It looks a lot like Cloud, in my opinion... Which hairstyle do you want Zack to have?

1.) His own, before changing to the one like Angeal's? (Two bangs)

2.) The one that looks like Angeal? (One bang)

3.) In Advent Children? (One bang, I THINK it's different...)

Btw,about emblem on his belt.In original FF7 there was emblem that they used like DG SOLDIER in DOC and in Crisi Core they Changed it to this:

lol it amazes me between apz and i doing much more original models and creating ourselfs we now have a barret and a red XIII which is cool unfortunately i wont be able to add them to mine because of my details.  Nice work with red keep it going.

I thought those feathers were the head dress, but then again... (Oh yeah, there's a fire thingy ma jig on his tail.)

Red 13's original weapon only has two feathers.

I'm barely really helping, since I have no knowledge about models, creating 3-D models (etc.) His back leg has a tattoo...?

Actually Biturn opens HRC file as Skeleton and P files as 3d parts.
I can't convert whole model to 3DS...only P files

Try extract whole PRP's char.LGP in some folder and open adda hrc(RED XIII) file in kimera.After that save this model with the same name to other folder and open it in biturn

squallff8 is using the prp, but you should be able to convert battle or field model p files into 3ds files. Then cut up your model and use blender/3dmax to match your new parts to the original part sizes. After that just convert in pcreator add your tex and then rename your new pieces to the original pieces names and it should(in theory) work in game. This totally side steps using kimera and is not as accurate but should work considering you cannot open that model.

As for the hair on his head.. I have no idea what should be done.  However the 1 thing wrong with the model (besides his hair) is his back legs.  The "thigh" portion should be bigger

I'd say that his limbs and body all need to be made a bit beefier, but the thighs of his back legs need to most muscle.

This seems to be coming along quite nicely now. I'd say he still needs a bit more muscle all over (you can see from this (http://uk.geocities.com/blissful_absolution/assignment4/images/redxiiiimage.jpg) that he has a really muscular physique), but there has been quite an improvement. Keep it up  :wink:

Think his hair is just a tad to long on his back/neck area. And it seems more of a straight cut in the pictures. Other then that, awesome job :-D

But, I'd be happy with a release as is :-D

I think he looks quite good.  I'd agree he's finished now except for texturing.  As far as I know we only have two people here who are great at it, Apz and Millenia, both of whom are currently engaged with other projects.

Wow. amazing job, Hope the Barret and Tifa models get released soon. Then the whole first part of my game will have awesome battle models! :-D

EDIT: is you don't mind me asking, How long have you been modeling? And did you go to school for it? If no to the second could you point me to where i could learn? I'd love to help out in this forum, But sadly, i can't model :-(

Monsters! :-D my first goal is to remake all the enemies in the bombing mission. Which is Shina MP. and two things i don't know the name of. Think thats an easy task. Though at the rate i work, expect them mid 2020 XD

images can be no larger than 512/512. in pcreator i think you can make up to 10 images for an model. you shouldnt need more than 1 or 2 though.

@ hermoor, you should add a few more seams near the end of limbs and such so that they spread more to a rectangular shape, rather than bunching up at the ends, that'll avoid texture warping.

The original data does not use any textures larger than 256x256.

My driver supports whatever your GL driver supports. (2048x2048 for anything modern)

You should stick to 512x512 though, since people with older hardware may want to use your mods.

i think the issue is invluding the uv data with the battle model file, i'm not sure if its saved into the file by pixel, or vector, in which case the image size would be irrelevant.

Texture coordinates are normalized (anything else would be insane). The image can be replaced with any other size and still look right.

Use 1024x1024 if you don't care about the original graphic card requirements of FF7, pretty much anything newer will support that.
Even 2048x2048 is probably supported by most cards out there, it may be slow on really old cards though.

Of course, the optimal texture size is where one pixel from the texture ends up being one pixel on the screen.

well assuming most people are running ff7 at 1280/960, what resoultion would that be? characters are rarely cover much of the screen. apz's are 512/512 and they look fine to me.

As far as I know you can go with any size you want! If I remember correctly (I'm too lazy to look it up right now) But the Squeeble tutorial that taught me to do this used a 512x1024. I only used 512x512 because that's all the detail I needed.

He's looking great, but I agree that the top part of the hind leg could be wider. Specifically where it connects up with the body.
I know he's not really a dog, but dogs, in general, have pretty thick hind legs in relative proportion to their front legs.

h'okay! here comes progress! I've made a nice mane of spikey hair, also adding the locks at his neck, which have a ring as well as i think a materia underneath (see advent children). wtv a lil ball. next i'll be bulking him up!

actually i mostly look at the old red reference, AC was for the locks, but anyhow, the hair is fairly mohawkish, it does slant on to either side (some spikes slant inwards actually) because well... thats what hair does, hair doesnt go straight up, but alas, once its ingame, it'll look quite mowhawkish nehow, trust me on that one (remmber you'll rarely see him close up, and when you do, some hangy and slanted hair will make sense in the heat of battle.

I think it looks much better if he has the wild hairstyle shown in the screenshot. Instead of the less wild straight boring looking hair he got in the game. I mean what lion cuts his hair, just like a lion shows of his big beautiful mane. I think red should too. Lots of wild hair showing that he is a bad motherf***er!  :-D Hope it's looking good Timu  8-)

Actually, I think his hair is shorter in the game, and then longer at the end because he is a juvenile in the game, but a full adult when we see him last. Just like a young lion when it's getting it's mane in. Their body looks completely adult, but their mane looks like rather silly.

However, I totally like the looks of your Nanaki much better. I think the wild hair looks more interesting - so I say stick with it.

Now what I ask this community. when you view reds model in biturn (rwaa) it's peices are all over the place, least for most people i know. why is this? and how can it get fixed? if not then we will have a great deal of difficulty getting him ingame :P

Releasing them, yes. But people can rip them on their own.

Barret, Red XIII and Cait Sith can't be ripped from anything AFAIK, so there's no way to play the game with more detailed models of them other than having someone making the models, meaning they should be the priority.

You're correct.  Personally I'd rather have him how he was in DoC instead of riding a white fluffy moogle.  Anyways, if someone feels they have what it takes to rip a model out of DoC, please, do feel free.

Thing is, there might be problems with the animations if we just have the cat in battle; in fact, I think we'd have make some completely new ones.

Are you saying that Rufus is not on that list, or that he is? Because he definitely has a battle model as well as a field model.

There would DEFINITELY be animation problems, but now that Borde has gained a newfound interest in toying with Kimera some more, (not to mention Aali figuring out and fixing everything to do with modding the game) it wouldn't surprise me if one of them figures out how to create new animations or substitute the ones other models use.

rufus is on the list ^^ i meant that those that DO have battle and field models will get done first. field only will come later, should i even get to them.

But I couldn't tell whether you were saying Rufus was part of the group with Dyne etc or being contrasted with it; I was worried you might have forgotten that he had a battle model as well  :roll:

These things really take so much time it's hard to evaluate when all the people who are working on it a) have time to work on it and b) have the motivation to work on it. It's done when it's done, tbh :P
