Yeah, that was the first thing I tried. That doesn't work, Mode switching can't be disabled that way.

Sure it can :)

1. Control Panel -> Uninstall a Program -> FF7Music
2. Control Panel -> Uninstall a Program -> Final Fantasy VII
3. Delete all the leftover mod files from the FF7 folder.
4. Clean your Registry: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=14421.msg201774#msg201774
5. Install Final Fantasy VII.
6. Open Bootleg and select a different Difficulty Mode.

Oh, a complete uninstall? I really don't want to do that.. I was lucky enough to get the game working the first time, I don't want to undo that incase I can't get it working again.

Nothing prevents you from installing the game in a new folder, if you have the space.

Vgr, I have tried installing multiple copies to different locations and had some issues with mods not working correctly.

Oh, a complete uninstall? I really don't want to do that.. I was lucky enough to get the game working the first time, I don't want to undo that incase I can't get it working again.

Your choice, but it's not going to magically work without doing it :-P

Possible. I have like 5 different installations, but they're all for testing and debugging purposes. Bootleg does update the registry though.

Okay, so I went and did that, restalled everything. And it worked!

But... now there's a new problem.

I can't continue playing on Disk 2.
Even after following the FAQ's instructions, which were unnecessary anyway, it wont work.

Unhhhhhhghhhhhhhh...

Did you install AnyCD.dll in Multi, with Multi.dll being loaded?

AnyCD.dll in Multi? Isn't it "FF7anyCD.dll", not "AnyCD.dll"? Are you saying that there's supposed to be a "Multi" folder I'm putting AnyCD.dll/FF7anyCD.dll into? And how would I go about "loading" Multi.dll?

Uh, not sure I really understand that one. So here's what I've done according to the FAQ:
Quote
    Download DLPB_Tools.zip
Done.
Quote
Extract the "DLL_in" folder and "Mult.dll" to your game folder.
Done, hopefully. I put those files here: (F:)/Games/Steam/FFVII/SteamApps/common/FINAL FANTASY VII/>>(I put them here)<<
Quote
    Download FF7anyCDv2.dll.
Did this, although I already had it to begin with inside the DLL_in folder*.
Quote
Place "FF7anyCDv2.dll" into the "DLL_in" folder.
*Yep, did this. Here's whats in my DLL_in folder now: FF7anyCD.dll, FF7anyCDv2.dll, Hext.dll, Hext_Reademe.txt, Multi.dll
Maybe I have to remove FF7anyCD.dll?
Quote
    Add the line  load_library = Multi.dll  to ff7_opengl.cfg.
Did this, and I didn't need to- it was already there. It says:
     # Load Multiple DLLs
     load_library = Multi.dll

You do not need two times the same DLL.
delete the old (red) and keep the new (green).

Okay, I removed that old DLL file.

And now I've noticed that the FAQ instructions have been updated. I still didn't need to follow them, the FF7anyCDv2.dll was already in the LOADR folder.

On thing that was changed in the FAQ: Place "Mult.dll" into the root folder.
Is this still right?: (F:)/Games/Steam/FFVII/SteamApps/common/FINAL FANTASY VII >>(I put them here)<<
Or does it go into the DLL_in folder?

uh, okay. So whats this Kranmer thing and where do I get it? Yeah, actually- I don't understand any of these instructions.

Quote
There are two different versions, one of DLPB (90 kb) and one of Kranmer (4 kb).
DLPB's needs a subfolder "DLL_in" in which other DLLs are there.
Kranmers needs a subfolder "LOADR" in which other DLLs are there.
Copy missing DLLs best in both folders ...

So that DLPB thing I download, I need to create a "DLL_in" subfolder inside? Shouldn't I be extracting files from it and putting them in my FINAL FANTASY VII folder somewhere?

Other DLLs and other DLLs? Best in both folders?.. What?

Actually DLPB and kranmer are both programmers, and their name is used to refer to who made the DLL. Use DLPB's.

It should have the DLL_in folder with it. Put every other DLL inside it.

Ah, okay.

Its still not working, though.

I forget what the problem was here but I'd suggest just restarting with a fresh installation and make sure it's not to a system directory (if it's to the C: and not a folder you added yourself just assume it's a system directory). Run Kompass63's converter here -> http://www.file-upload.net/download-8615002/FF7_GameConverter_0.10b.exe.html, and I'd suggest installing Aali's new driver right after, 8.1b. The converter installs the LOADR folder with the .dlls you need for the insert disk issues. Just unzip Aali's file and copy everything into the games install directory and run the .reg file. Then you can run the Reunion for any MO mods and stuff you want. Then just configure your setting in the ff7_opengl.cfg. All you need are the resolution settings, and change the texture cache to 1024 (instead of 256). That's really all there is to it.

Oh wow, okay. Sounds confusing though, might be tough for me, but I'll give it a try.

Before I attempt that though, I should ask; can I use my game save files in the unmodded Steam version of the game? Just until I get into Disc 2, then reinstall the mod and continue from there?
Is that worth trying?
Or, maybe someone could take my save file at the end of disc 1 and play it through a little into disc 2, save it, and send it back to me?
Maybe I could try that if all else fails.

Also, thanks for putting up with me guys. I'm sure this is a little frustrating for you aswell. But hopefully I'm revealing some easier/simplier ways of assisting other newbies who might come along asking the same stupid questions that I have been.
There will be some more clarification I'll need from that last post later, too. Sorry.

EDIT:
Ohh, ohh! I got it to go past disc 1! I think I might've forgotten to run Kompass63's converter.

So I got into disc 2 and saved on the world map, the game was windowed and alot of mod stuff wasn't running. So I've gone into Bootloader config and set up my old setttings, started up the game and...
"Please insert Disc 2".
And now I can't get it to run again, even after i run Kompass63's converter. So I'm going to reinstall everything again, see if that works.

bobothehippo,
start the bootloader please, click on the Configure button and then on the tab "Plugins".
Is there selected "External Library" and including "Multi.dll" entered?

Sorry guys but...

I just bought, downloaded and installed a Steam version of final fantasy (it's a 1.09 version)

The problem occurs right at the start with the game converter. What happens is, the game converter says that it has aplayed the 1.02 patch but the game itself doesn't get updated. Because of that, the FF7 config won't work and, because of that, BFE and bootleg won't work either.

I've searched the whole internet (ok not whole but did a search) and couldn't find a manual update to 1.02 version.

Am I missing something? Or Am I just dumb? (the game is installed on a second partion of the disc so I don't think that's the problem. Plus, I mounted the blank ISO when running the game converter)

Any help is apreciated

Please post the FF7_GC.log.

The update to 1.02 is for the old or converted game, not for the Steam version.
The GameConverter is installed this already, you do not need to worry about that.
It must have run something else wrong ...

EDIT
So after all that I tried running FF7 confing to see what happened and it crashed immediately
I went to my pc and discovered that the Nvd3d9wrap.dll was the cause of the crash. Problem is, that dll is related to my graphics cards (it is a nvidia geforce card) and the only way to replace it was by running the pc in safe mode. But, even after I replaced the dll with another working one, and after reeboting the pc, the system replaces the file I put in with the original file, thus, rendering the ff7 config impossible to run. I have no idea if this is related to the problem or not, but I thought I should post it anyway.

I can see no error in the log, seems to have everything working.

While the GC is working the FF7Config appeared, right?

Just try FF7Config to start with admin rights.
If this works, you have to also start FF7.exe with admin rights.

Otherwise, I see the problem is actually in the drivers (graphics or sound) ...

Oh, I see now, you can (if you want) also use the Spanish version... ;D
