FF8 on a GeForce4 TI
« on: 2002-10-14 02:28:22 »
Has anyone else tried playing FF8 on a GeForce4 TI?
I have a GeForce4 TI 4600 (PNY, 30.87 drivers, Windows XP Pro) and the motion-blur effect (Eden summon, last boss dying...) is not working correctly.  I downloaded the Geforce 1.2 patch for FF8 but that didn't fix it.

It looks like the "blur" is working, but its not transparent, so you just get a solid blurred image that gets more blurred as time goes by.  When the effect is over, the image returns to normal.

Here's what happens when Motion Blur comes (been on for about 5 seconds):

I've seen this happen on an old ATI XPert 2000 Pro on a different computer, too.

Anyone have any idea if its possible to fix?

[Edit] The issue has been resolved!  Update to the 52.x drivers from nVidia.  Related topic: http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=2269

You're probably right about it being a problem with the card's alpha transparency being off when motion blur is in effect.  If new drivers don't fix the problem, then start complaining to nVidia directly, and (hopefully) they'll look into it on the next detonator release.

Well, at least that's the way it SHOULD work.

Oh, and while you're at it, would you mind screamin' at 'em for trying to completely eradicate the existence of 3Dfx? :P

Hoping the Detonator 40's will fix it.  I'd use the beta, 'cept I tried for about two hours and got about fifteen billion bluescreens out of them.  I think I'll wait for them to be WHQL Certified before I try them again :p

Wonder if they broke it since like 27.xx?  I used my TNT2 for this game with those drivers, and it worked...

[Edit] I can't even find a place on nVidia's site to complain to them... they want me to complain to my card manufacturer, but that's dumb, because my card manufacturer doesn't make the drivers.  Hrmph.

Well, I was thinkin' that you would complain (at least about the driver problem) via a phone call, as long as it's free........

And, for the record, if they release the nv30 with the name "Rampage", they'll have hell to pay.......:P

Err, heh, if you can find me a phone number, I'll gladly complain :P

Provided that the Detanotor 40's don't fix the problem when they're finished.  I don't think they'll release a full version until both NV30 come out and DirectX 9 comes out though.  nVidia is not the only one behind schedule... I remember reading that DX9 was planned to be included in Windows XP Service Pack 1? .....
