Considering this tickle-me-mouse business with touch sensing, wanna bet that the next Apple product is iFap-keyboard?

It has built-in iCum-technology; when you blow your load on it, the Mac will automatically shut down the video it was playing. :-D

If you want to make Ice T appear, all you have to do is right click and...

Oh, wait, it's a Mac

contrary to popular beleif, macs usually have 2+ buttons... they havent had a one button mouse for about 3 years. (you can still use only one button, but can just as easily have any number... the might mouse actually has 4 buttons, despit its appearance)

Step 1: Put together a regular PC
Step 2: Install MacOS
Step 3: ?????
Step 4: Profit

And then you can dual boot into Windows so you can actually play games properly.

This way it's a win win scenario and a bit cheaper.

Yeah, we don't hate Macs. We just hate people who use Macs. Wait, that's not it, either. :-P Yeah, it's just a bit of friendly jabbing. :-)

Or, you could just install a Linux-distro and get the safety and (somewhat imaginary) stability benefits from that.

I have to admit that I have considered installing Mac OS, just so I could piss off hardcore MacFags who - for example - took it really hard when they saw that PC built into a G5 case. :-D Very amusing, that was.

Aren't your hardware choices pretty limited when building a Hackintosh? :?

I'm almost certain that you have to use Intel processors, amongst other things...

Anyway, a win-win situation is Windows and Linux, using Common Sense 2009 edition as your AV software :-D

Nah, since it would be designed for Macs it would only be compatible with gay porn.

This.

But we also dislike certain Apple business practices, such as the questionable amounts of honesty in their advertising, as well as this crap:

1320 bucks, you mean. :-D Because I spy with my little eye a pound-sign in that screenshot.

But hey, it's genuine Apple-RAM. Re-badged made by virgins born during the full moon, and raised in a Apple-monastery since their birth to keep them pure. They only bathe in honey, too.

Yep, and an extra $400 to increase the clock speed of the dual-core processor by 0.26GHz. :-D

Incidentally, the cost of that 4GB RAM upgrade is what I paid for my entire laptop, which has 4GB of RAM. Admittedly, DDR3 RAM is still a little more expensive than DDR2 right now, and a single 4GB stick costs more than 2x2GB sticks (I'm sure someone will know why), but I think it still shows how overpriced some of their products are.

The pic, if anyone wants to know, is from a thread where someone was talking about a friend who paid £4500/$7000 for a MacBook Pro. Just imagine what kind of PC you could build for that price...

Admittedly, DDR3 RAM is still a little more expensive than DDR2 right now, and a single 4GB stick costs more than 2x2GB sticks (I'm sure someone will know why), but I think it still shows how overpriced some of their products are.

And SO-DIMM format (the laptop memory, that is) makes it even more expensive. Still, one could get the entire 2 x 4GB 1066 DDR3 SO-DIMM set here for about 500 euros - if Fujitsu-Siemens is good enough name for one. It's probably re-branded memory as well, I doubt they have a plant capable of producing DDR3-memory. Apple most certainly does not have, AFAIK the Apple-memory is made by Kingston. Might very well be the very same memory, even.

The reason why single 4GB stick costs more than 2x2GB sticks is yields, especially if the larger stick uses the same amount of chips, meaning that a chip must be twice the capacity. Increasing the amount of semiconductors on a die pretty much results in lower yields, as the chances of finding a faulty one from twice as many is... well, probably twice as large. :-P Leading to twice as many non-working chips.

Same is true for processors - especially in the case of models with very large cache, as that often holds the most of the semiconductors in a CPU - and GPUs, which have insane amount of semiconductors. Larger models are probably not that much more expensive to manufacture per unit, but you'll end up throwing away much more of them. This is also the reason why both ATi and nVidia sell graphics cards with more or less GPU pipelines deactivated; these are the chips that were faulty and couldn't be used in the flagship product.

...and the reason why Cell has 8 of the... whatevertheywerethingies, but only 7 are active. One is a spare, so single faulty... thingy does not mean loss of entire Cell.

If one goes for a more recognised brand (in the world of RAM), the prices are a little higher.

However, that's still quite a difference from the extra £800 that Apple want to charge.

Upgrading from 4GB of "Apple" memory to 8GB is almost twice as expensive as going from 2x2GB of Corsair memory to 2x4GB

Ah, yes, I can understand that. The manufacturers have to compensate for those 1.7% yields. :-D

I would pay 200 tops for that.
Perhaps an extra 500 if the virgins were included.

I once envisioned and mapped out the price for the most optimal supercomputer physically possible to build with commercialized materials at the time, with all heat generating parts watercooled with pentuple radiators (that's 5).

The cost was $5000. Apple fail.

Over the last year or so, the 'hackintosh' www.osx86.com has actually had a dramatic increase in hardware compatibility. You can run OS 10.6 on most newer, popular hardware including newer AMD and intel processors. It doesnt support all  laptop hardware and poopy integrated whatnots, however. But ultimately, the best iMac is a PC with mac OS. I have an installation of 10.6 that I have for teh lulz running on a core i7 and a nvidia gtx260 (I wonder how much my setup would cost if it came from apple). I cant stand to use it though because it makes me feel like I am five years old, openSUSE FTW!

AMD processors, you say? :-P

Hmm, so it seems that a Hackintosh might actually be quite easy to do for most people. I wonder how Apple would be effected if most people knew that they could use the OS without having to buy a Mac? I'm presuming that Apple make far more profit from their hardware (which can't be torrented :-D) than their software. Methinks that only the really hardcore Macfags would still buy Macs if Hackintoshing were to take off; it would be very bad news for Steve Jobs...

Pfft, people don't buy macs because of their "easy to use" Operating System...

...they buy them because they're shiny and "cutting edge".

I didn't want to say this but due to apple's full disclosure in this thread:

Those apple commercials macfagging the windows 7 launch... what the hell?
If I were to write a ratio representing apple-anti-windows7 launch commercials to windows 7 launch commercials
that I have seen today, it would be 4:1 and I have had the tv on for only 1 hour thus far. What is this world coming to?

I don't usually support micro$oft but the RTM of win7 is just to nice to bash
so consider this a f*ck you Steve Jobs, you wouldn't even have apple if it werent for Wozniak anyways

this is an ibm thinkpad x300 running OS X 1/2 Tiger next to my jailbroken iPod

And yes, that is windows 7 running in the background.
