Thanks!

Yeah - it's not bad at all.  Sticks to the roots like it should too.  Currently listening to makou reactor theme.  It's very cool.

That's one of my favourite themes just because of how little effort it actually took; everything just sort of fell into place for that one. On the other hand, I'm still mixing Bombing Mission to this day...

I'm gonna update most of the 12 songs at the end of the weekend; and am currently working on sinra, ayasi and looking into replacing the song on the opening FMV, let's see how that goes.

It sounds crisp and faithful to originals; it's good that you're taking time to get all the sounds in there. The other two tracks on your channel are really good too.

Added the opening FMV to the OP!
I used the avi file that came with the Steam release (i did not re-encode the video, i just remuxed it with my audio), but if there is a higher quality version somewhere - or one that doesn't have the music encoded in it - please let me know so I can use that instead.

Also: all the songs have been updated; and sinra, ayasi, yado, and earislo have been added. Enjoy!

Really enjoying this particular re-do of the OST. Would love to have this eventually be another option available to us!

If you ever come across the main theme and its shorter version, don't do the same mistake as SE/DotEmu did with the rerelease. The shorter track does loop in the middle three times (as far as I have counted it) on the psx version. https://youtu.be/ih7s1e55tZI?t=999
Also, cintro is different from its full version. The bell does ring only every 12 seconds and not 6.

Noted. Is the shorter version used in any other part of the game?

It's the only place where this track is played.

My favorite version of One Winged Angel is this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GFA26UoI2o&t=
Not so much the strange intro but when the music plays it is gorgeous. It gives the song something light, it's a bit like a dance (https://youtu.be/30wPVni1lO4?t=48)*.

*That's the original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIbFk1IE8rQ

Ok, I'll just make a longer ogg file for that one then; easy :D!

Interesting arrangement (the cut to the reunion track actually triggered me though). I've been pondering whether I should make separate versions of some songs as re-arrangements and not just re-orchestrations, thus taking more liberties and changing up things more in terms of composition. Lets see how it eventually goes, right now I'm trying to remake the songs as they appear on the game, I only made that bit of One-Winged Angel cuz I couldn't help myself :-D; I'll finish it later.

The dancing video... lol

That's a very good plan. I also want to make my model's as close as possible to the original game before I will make some new (as example I would like to make some models based on the avatars here on qhimm. But *pssst* that's a secret ).

This is absolutely beautiful. The best soundtrack remake I have heard until now. I love the way it's faithful to the original and makes it even better.
Thanks a lot for your great work, can't wait to listen to the other tracks :) :)

It's going well. I've been having a rough couple of weeks so I've slowed down on this project a little (shit happens :P), but I think I'll upload a couple more songs on Thursday as well as some corrections, just because I hate taking things slowly.

UPDATE!
Added dokubo and rhythm. dokubo doesn't sound that much like the original but I still like how it turned up; I used a real bass with a wah-wah pedal instead of a synth.
Also updated sinra, chu, chu2, ob and yado.

Edit: After well over a month I can proudly... finally say: Bombing Mission is complete!...(a month is a lot of time for me, i have no patience)
And to celebrate that, I'm gonna share with you all a sort of Making Of (https://youtu.be/WXeOOwBSPm0) this song. It's been one of the most complicated things I've ever done aside from maybe Dancing Mad (https://youtu.be/OR0URbx98xI).

I like yume. It has a nice glass sound in the background. This glass sound would also be great replacement for the planets cry sound.

Interesting... AFAIK ff7 has no proper audio engine though, so i doubt any attempt at sfx replacement will actually sound good; has anybody actually tried this?

In other news, i'm currently working on the Main Theme; it's taking a while, cuz the midi is all messed up and it's a long composition.

In the meantime, I got some different flute sounds for Cosmo Canyon and I can't decide which one i like more, so i'm gonna post them here. Any opinion on the matter is greatly appreciated:
Here's the original posted on the GDrive link in the OP: https://picosong.com/wQXsr
This one has an alternative flute that's more realistic but with relatively worse timbre: https://picosong.com/wQVpn
This one has a Shakuhachi, which I find is thematically appropiate but might be too different from the original: https://picosong.com/wQjrZ

You can discard 12.3 entirely, the shakuhachi ends up taking a complete background the the rest of the track, easily overshadowed by the drums and it lacks the oomph I think you found in the other 2 flutes.
While the first instrument (8.3) has a bit of a rustic feel to it, it doesn't have the inherent breathiness of actual flute playing present in 10.3. I think you'd find more success in the instrument you used for 8.3 in either "The Great Warrior" or in Red's theme itself. If you can find a way to get a bit more "punch" (there's a musical term for this, I think its attack?) from the 10.3 flute, I think that's the way to go. Alternately, you could try layering the shakuhachi in tandem with the 10.3 flute, as a compromise, see what that sounds like and if you like it. As of now, my vote goes to 10.3, but maybe turn the background guitar down just a bit.
Cheers, loving it so far and anxiously awaiting more! Completely chucked out all the other music revamps in favor of yours  :-D

The last one is my favourite. For the sound replacement we can edit the sound with Cosmo or Ultrasound, but DLPB has made a full audio replacer which will replace any current attempts.

Update!

Updated:
Barrett's Theme
Anxious Heart (apologies for the horrible sounding harp before)
Hurry!
Mako Reactor
Those Who Keep Fighting (added some power chords 8))
Canyon of the Falling Stars

New:
Shin-Ra's Full Scale Offensive
Main Theme of Final Fantasy VII (my favourite one so far)
Main Theme's shorter version: Synced to The Reunion R05C's version of the scene since the original cuts off the song at the end and plays Mako Reactor instead.
While Travelling
Farm Boy
Electric de Chocobo
Cinco de Chocobo
Pursue the Man in a Black Cloak!

Also, thanks for the feedback on Cosmo Canyon. I decided to use the Shakuhachi one but I tweaked it a little so that it sounds a little stronger on the mix.

The last one is my favourite. For the sound replacement we can edit the sound with Cosmo or Ultrasound, but DLPB has made a full audio replacer which will replace any current attempts.
Looking forward to R06!

Since the opening song is within the FMV and not played from an OGG file, I had to remake the audio with sound effects and then remux the avi file (I used the Steam FMV, the video is not reencoded). I think it turned out pretty good. However, if someone managed to get the opening and ending2 FMVs without the music and with the sfx, please let me know, that would really help me out.
Turns out I only had to rip the FMVs from the PSX version to get the audio without music encoded in it... wow I feel dumb, I spent a while redoing the sound effects... Well the OP's link to the opening.avi is updated with better quality audio!

... Also I added Aerith's Theme and Hear the Voice of the Planet which sound really cool, check them out!

For the planets chosen one I would prefer a more natural chorus like in that version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVRALMFk-Ko&list=RD4F5gZqiPIso&index=24
Though, it sounds already pretty good. I can hear that your skills develops with every new track.

Thank you!

You mean like this? (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1jCchM9FXjVOA1KHcsmvrm401Dav2_Nfl)
I chose not to do it like that because I felt it didn't really fit; it's a weird track, the original doesn't even use orchestral strings, it uses electric guitars. However the only difference between the two is that the chorus (which is not made of samples btw, it's 15 layers of my own voice 8-)) is turned down, but it's still there.

I'm gonna leave this alternative version here in case anyone wants it, it's looped and everything.

cephiros: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1bQij4oZMIbDk6vP4-wXFnxlwt2bKKiuw
nointro: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Pc_vri2ukrMmDcg7HtoN4yN8HRPA4VeM

Again these are looped OGG files ready to be used in-game if anyone wants them.

Edit

Sexy! Now FFVII meets FFVIII!

Edit:
I'll make an iro mod of it for 7H. I'll upload it with my iro packer so you can easily add new files or make options for alternated versions.

@Bynyl
I made the nointro versions of the two alternate versions of cephiros.

@everyone
This comes with the iro packer bat, so you need to run it and built the iro if you want to use it for 7H (well actually you could grab the folder in unpacked and copy it in your 7H mod folder). The mod has a config if you want to choose different versions of a song.

Another beautiful track!

May I suggest a variety of it. I replaced this song a while back with this one https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uj_KUKzGY08. My suggestion is to give the original track also an intro maybe mixture of Sephiroth's theme and Janova's theme. I really like the heavy bells at the beginning of the song from within temptation.

Again, great work and I hope to hear more songs from you.

This sounds awesome.
I will wait for all of the soundtrack to be complete, so I can use it in the game.

Big thanks as always! I am actually planning to spice these songs up later. I'll take your suggestion into account.

I added a zip in the OP so that my soundtrack can be used within The Reunion mod.

Also new tracks soon, I haven't abandoned this! Just postponed it until work and other stuff stop getting in my way :P.

EDIT: I removed the link in the OP.

Same here. Long time lurker whose been playing FFVII with mods for years. I'm always looking for high quality reinterpretations of the soundtrack that stay true to the original arrangements and emotional intentions, and this is easily the one of the top 3 fan remakes of the soundtrack I've ever come across. Can't wait for this to be finished!

I stumbled upon this as I was looking for the ideal soundtrack replacement. This is it! As others have said, you've perfectly captured the essence of the original tracks while giving them a crisp new coat of paint.

Thanks for your work!

Finally, an OST mod that doesn't give me whiplash when an original track plays.  This manages to be both improved, and yet true enough to the original that its incomplete status isn't jarring and irritating.  Great job!

EDIT:  Okay, I'm having an odd issue.  I can't get this mod to work with Reunion, at all.

I tried installing it to "<basedir>/data/Music_ogg/".  Doesn't work.

Then I tried installing it to "<basedir>/Reunion/CUSTOM/<my_mod_id>" along with a couple other minor mods. Those mods work.  This mod still won't.  Um, what am i doing wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong at all. Reunion just doesn't play well with nearly anything, sometimes even itself.

Reunion has its own audio engine and uses the tracks inside the mod's GLOBAL folder. You need to change the names of my tracks and match them to the ones inside the correct folder in order for it to work ("ob.ogg" would be renamed "002 Bombing Mission.ogg" for example)

I was afraid of that.

It doesn't matter.  Reunion kept having crashes while my 7th Heaven install doesn't.  I'll miss the improved translation but stability trumps all.

Y'know, in all my digging through this forum this week, I found a post of the Reunion's author trashing the old version of 7th Heaven.  While I do have a vague recollection of it being a bit of a mess, and turning me off of FF7 modding at the time, I find it ironic that the new 7th Heaven is almost as user-friendly as Mod Organizer 2 (for Bethesda games), while Reunion is super unfriendly to anything not designed specifically for it.

tbh both reunion and 7th heaven have come a long way in a short amount of time, there was a time when 7th heaven was completely unsupported before the people working on it now took up the project, and reunion ro6f  is leaps and bounds ahead of when plain r06 was released ( probably because i helped beta test it  8-) )

but anyway, if you just unpack the .iro with ironite, the files are already named appropriately (or at least they were when i downloaded this mod) and then just stick em in Global>music or Custom/(your mod id)/music  mine is in the latter and i assure you if you do it right, it works

I tried installing it again, using IroNite, and putting it in my Custom/Music folder.  It does not work.

EDIT:  I did as Bynyl advised, and renamed them to match the files in the BASE\Music directory, the installed them to my Custom directory.  That works.  I zipped and backed it up so I wouldn't have to do that again.  I'd be happy to share it if Bynyl approves.

So I'm making a post to this dead thread to let you all know it's.... gonna remain dead for a while.... yeah... I don't really know when I'm ever gonna finish this honestly but for now this will remain in the current state for the foreseeable future. There has been some shit I've been dealing with for a long time (over 5 years) that kind of exploded due to the unfortunate circumstances we have all been dealing with lately; and as much as I want to finish this, my anxiety and depression simply won't let me... I've been getting help and have been getting medication since May of the current year and I'm slowly fixing myself up - so I'm gonna be dedicating my time to getting better and hopefully later on I will be able to return and finish this, cuz i really do want to finish this. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback and a lot of nice comments for my work that I really, reeeally did not expect and that am very grateful for. So if there is anyone there that's waiting for me to finish this; please have patience and thank you so much for liking my stuff.

That's it for me. Again, a sincere thanks to everybody who supported, helped, and gave their time to check my stuff out.

So if there is anyone there that's waiting for me to finish this

*raises hand*

i have several complete music packs downloaded, and your incomplete one, and i've made a custom music folder by choosing what tracks i like best

and my custom music folder STILL has more tracks from your mod than any other, thanks dude

i have found its virtually impossible to force yourself into modding like a chore, cuz deep down you know its not something that NEEDS to get done

so dont worry, be happy

when i come home from a stressful event and i know i'm gonna play some FF7, i still go straight to the chocobo farm and listen to your chocobo track while i kill my sobriety and ease my own stress with that relaxing af track  :-P

A recent mention of this made me want to just write something more and I hope Bynyl can read it so I addressing him directly here under.

I'm sure I can talk for many others when I say that we would love to have any kind of update about how you are doing, man. I have been listening many times to your creation here and I am amazed about the quality of it. I'm first and foremost hoping that your life has turned or is turning for the better because even if we don't know each other personally, your work has showed us all FF7 and music lovers here who you are because that kind of talent is revealing.

To me personally, you are part of that group of FF7 modders that play(ed) a key role in the process of perfecting a beloved game.

All the best!

Thank you all for the kind words. @Salk man, thank you so much, it meant a lot reading that.

I was checking the views this thread has and it honestly astonishes me. I cannot believe so many people have checked this out. This little thing I made and never completed was the first time I made something I felt was a "serious thing". I've never contributed to modding before, or participated on forums of any kind really. I just knew I liked the music from a game from my childhood and I like pretending to be a mixing engineer and a musician. I just kinda went "what the heck, let's see if a couple people like it" and posted it here.

My life has improved a lot since last I posted to put the project on hold. I've gone through somewhat rough times; I went through taking antidepressants and then quitting cold turkey, and then got addicted to drugs and almost became an alcoholic... I managed to kick all that, I found a partner that has helped me and supported me massively. I went back to uni and am getting a degree in systems engineering. I feel better and stronger than ever. I have a couple issues at work but I can say I'm ok now. Apologies for getting personal <3 .

The problem right now honestly is that I've been quite busy.... and I miiiight have lost the project files for this :-D ... I've also been doing a couple other projects, I helped my brother with a cool musical project of his (https://open.spotify.com/album/39qfe1uHi7WVPZdYcvx6fL) and got really into programming. I'll try to find time to try and finish this, I really want to get all the remaining tracks done. The support you all have been giving me is very motivating and I'm so thankful for it.

Wonderful to read a positive update about your life events, Bynyl!

I'm just sorry I didn't notice this sooner, but this community isn't as popular as it used to be, considering many moved to Discord.

Congratulations on your important accomplishments. We're all rooting for your present and future successes. And yes, if one day you could ever delight us with more of your FF7 music tracks and possibly complete your project, well, it'd be a dream come true. That would effectively mean for me and many others that we no longer need to be concerned about FF7 music because that'd be done for good. 🙂

Very welcome back, Bynyl!
