Disc 4 still coming?
I took a break because of personal problems and will try to finish disk 4 before the year ends.

Edit- Life took a bad turn so no Disk 4 this year. I'm hoping to get the 3080 GPU before the end of 2021 (lack of supplies) to speed up the process. I'm also going to redo the whole thing since AI upscaling has improved quite a bit since a year ago and I wasn't satisfied with how Esthar looked.

Hey Darziak have you tried utilizing Video Enhance AI by the people who made gigapixel? I think the results might be even better than this.

$199.99 Is a lot of money for a possible improvement, I like VIII but not enough to spend that kind of money.

I think Maki's way of integrating stuff is pretty good. It's similar to how you install bethesda mods.

Eventually yes.

Releases / [FF8:Remastered] Darz FMV's - 4k Upscaled
« on: 2020-06-03 00:27:53 »
Darz FMV's consist of improving the low quality ones we got in the Remaster. With the help from Mcindus I've upscaled the majority of FF8 FMV's to the equivalent of 4k using Esrgan and Gigapixel. The FMV's unfortunately remain at 15fps until the ability to edit the files to allow higher fps. Each Disk is over 1GB so expect download to take a little bit if you have slow internet.

Disk 4 is still a work in progress and once that's done I'll fine tune some FMV's (which takes longer) to look better.

-Preview-
Comparison video of the Remaster and my Upscale

-Requirements-
The files are Zipped using 7zip
https://www.7-zip.org/

Maki's DEMASTER Modding Tool is needed which can be found here:
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=19432.0

DEMASTER Instructions:
1. Download the DEMASTER release
2. Install DEMASTER into .../FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered/
3. Open 'ffviii_demaster_manager.exe' and run the 'unpack' feature - this creates the DEMASTER_EXP folder

- Download -
Disk 1
Disk 2
Disk 3

- Install -
Be sure you make a BACKUP of the movies folder beforehand.

Extract each Part to "FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered/DEMASTER_EXP/data/movies" and overwrite the files.

-Thanks to-
Mcindus - His mods got me inspired into working on this
Maki - The modding genius who made it possible

I use models from here:
https://upscale.wiki/wiki/Model_Database
JPG PlusULTRA, DeJpeg Fatality PlusULTRA, ISO denoise v1 among others. Sometimes one of them, sometimes all of them. So one frame of FMV can undergo 3-5 different ESRGAN models. IIRC overall there are about 16k frames for Disc 01 alone. It takes a lot of time for sure. Sometimes I use them directly on source BINK PNGs, sometimes I upscale first and then denoise/deblock to achieve the best quality.

For me I do ESRGAN DeDither, x4 Rebout interpolated with Manga109Attempt, downscale nearest neighbour, x4 custom FF8 MCDINUS made and finally use Gigapixel AI to upscale to approx 4k. Quality varies but as general workthrough it works.

Those are pretty sharp looking FMV's, what ESRGAN models are you using?

Me and MCINDUS made a custom model. I've done about 98% of FMV's upscaled to 4k, we could work together and achieve a quicker release.

Hope you don't mind I uploaded it to Youtube and unlisted it to do a comparison - https://viewsync.net/watch?v=4FdErFxN-Cs&t=0&v=LW8KlAd67eU&t=0&v=hngdPJ9hLBo&t=0

You can watch them outside the game by viewing the file itself.

12
The .cam files lock the videos to 15 fps.

I've already tried doing 60 fps on the videos and all it does is cause it to be jerky. So not worth it until the .cam files are edited to work with a 60fps video.

Looks impressive on what you've done so far.

Only trouble I see is the title, you want to remove the extra I.  :-D

I'm only seeing French only for language options.

I'm not seeing any purple.
There is a small streak of purple on the texture.

Also what the heck? I just noticed the pencil sharpener in the Lionheart texture. XD

Looks great, I swapped out the menu gradient to your Blue and my border. Your file also helped me realise how I was packing the files wrong.  :-D

Haha cool!  Nice corners! I didn't think to just change those, honestly :)  Nice touch!

Looks like there's a bit of leeway to throw some details in there. Just gets iffy when the length part repeats especially on GF summon countdown.

19
I really like the menu options you've made Mcindus, so I'm experimenting with them.

Thanks Mcindus.

Yup the link to download leads to nothing.

Since the top tier cards use art over the 3d models, have you thought about using art to the rest of deck? Plenty of concept art to use and perhaps asking artists for permission to use their arts to cover other ones not done by concept.

Just wanted to throw my thoughts into this.
