I am having trouble making the chests open right for my mod.  I have them set in Nibel basement which will not open and stay open.  One is in the Kalm flashback hotel before the flashback opens just shows it is open but will play the animation and give you the item.  The third one will probably have the same effect as the first but wont show until the other two items are looted.  Is it a case of the map or its just being difficult?
Can't you just copy an entire treasure chest setup and script from another field into yours? :?

Yeah probably. I've been trying to find a working url on the full sized images but nothing.
Unless someone knows better I think it's the best solution.

I got no idea but in case it is just not possible I don't think that's a huge problem since at least the page would load faster with just links. :P
EDIT: Or you could put the links along a small resized .png to show too?

I was logged in when uploading these images. It looks like this image display problem doesn't affect everybody. I don't think it's a big deal, although I could upload the "Released" pictures on googledrive instead of imgur and see how that changes.
It happens too if you're logged in if it surpasses an unknown (to me) limit. It happened to me too not so long ago...
I guess uploading them to your googledrive will be the solution, yes. Sorry to bother you with all this.

To be honest, I don't seem to find glaring issues on my end (or maybe I've been working with these images too long and I'm lacking perspective). For mds5_1, there is some level of noise (my render lasted 5 days on that one :S ) mostly because of a huge volumetric scattering shader which was meant to convey the feel of a dusty atmosphere. I wasn't minding the noise on this one because of that "dusty" effect. And yes, these images have very little in terms of post-processing - I didn't have any noise-removal method available which could satisfyingly remove noise without looking noticeably filtered.
That being said, if there's an image compression issue on your end, the problematic images correlate with image size, so there may be something there. Except for eals_1, the three others are the largest. Could you give me some details about where in these pictures you notice the biggest problems? I'm really having troubles to pinpoint that.
Look: http://i.imgur.com/s9yIomm.jpg
It is a badly re-encoded image (.jpg). That's the problem with those I listed on my precious previous (lol at mistake there) post.
Is there not an image server you could upload them to that doesn't convert heavy images into .jpgs?

Nevermind the noise thing. What I was talking about noise is not on those images, since I can't really see much detail in those compressed .jpg files.
I meant on the other .png images there seems to be some places where one can see some slight noise. Maybe slightly increasing the number of samples would fix it?

Anyway if you want to know it is:
The bed in mds5_dk.
The door-mat, fire-extinguisher, and japanese peace hand gesture drawing on the box in mds5_m.
The entrance mat and the top box near the dices and jars in mds5_i.
The bag and the dirt in the windows in mds5_w.
The reflection of those weird red lamps on the bed in min51_2.
The bottom part of the furniture near the window, the rug, and the sitting part of the right and bottom chairs in ealin_1.
The same parts and the books and lighting effect too in ealin_12.
Many weird dots in the bottom part and the wooden part in the beds of ealin_2.

Am I the only one who sees it?
But don't worry too much, I don't think it's a problem anyway.

Really? :-o
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15975.msg224827#msg224827

mds5_1
min51_1
eals_1
mds6_1

Those appear as bad .jpg files to me. I think the image server converts too heavy big sized images into .jpg? :|

Of course I know all that rendering stuff.
Maybe it's me but some seem to have some slight noise effect to them in some specific parts, or maybe it's the materials.
There's no image postprocessing applied after rendering, right?

PS: I've got some sources in the GPU field telling me that real-time raytracing is coming commercially available soon (I hope it is not Blizzard's "Soon™") near the time or some time after DX12 and Vulkan get released.
I hope they're not trolling me, lol, because I think that's the more groundbreaking advancement on the industry in decades. Said I should be looking at AMD & Samsung... :o

Would it be possible if you update some .jpg images on the gallery with the original .png files?
There seems to be much quality loss on some such files. One would think those renders are of bad quality instead.

And can I ask why are some renders with noise? I'm not a big fan of that noise effect. :|

Anyway, do you people realize you are doing some amazing work? ;)

Q-Gears / Re: How about moving to UNREAL 4.X?
« on: 2015-04-02 15:40:42 »
QGears using Unreal is not going to happen....

not usable with ANY of the Qgears code as its all under the GPL a  "Copyleft" license.
That's for commercial purposes only.
And it would not matter if you port Q-Gears to UE4 since it wouldn't be the same code anymore with the same dependencies anymore, probably.

I already suggested using some game engine. And despite current issues in q-gears, the advantage would be to have the "engine" part done for free, eg interface, scripting, sound, controls, settings, etc.
For the original intent of having a drop in replacement you'd need source code to make loading of native data possible.
To get a real impression of the benefits of an engine you should face all implemented features and there quality of q-gears with the engine of choice and see what benefits and drawbacks there are.

As for Unreal 4 I See:
 + sound
+ editors (live preview, visual scripting, ...)
 + networking
 + interfaces
+ input controls (Keyboard, Gamepad, Oculus?, ...)
+ settings screens (not sure what is required to get them though, ogre has only the minimal rendering settings window)
+ platforms (win, mac, *nix, android, html5)
+ possible future updates / bugfixes
+ proven architecture & maybe good quality code at least I'd assume it to be

 - porting efforts
 - learning efforts
 - native format support may not be possible

Not impossible at all.
You just need a data importer/exporter to reformat data at install time, like Q-Gears itself did: insert game disc and the game profile (for example FF7) installer will reformat all data and patch some of it after conversion, like field scripts, maybe.

That leaves it to the other two negative points. And as I said:
Anyway it may depend too on the expertise of the development team, or the willingness to throw away some or much of the infrastructure already built to support Q-Gears if any.  :?
If that's the reason... well, it's up only to the project team. I'd say it is probably better to do it sooner than later.
But I agree: currently it seems most efforts should be made on reverse engineering. Maybe, using the current Q-Gears implementation as prototype, and then much later when more is discovered move to a better suited engine with more tools and features.

PS: If I had to choose the 5 most important benefits of using such engine...
  • Visual Editor:
including the ability to test and edit at the same time.
  • Integration:
with Visual Studio X, for example.
  • Multiplatform:
more people can enjoy your work.
  • High quality architecture:
and the ability to be extended or modified.
  • Support:
by WhateverCompany Ltd. (like Epic), or the rest of the community.
Seems reasonable to you?

EDIT: I forgot to say it is free.

59
Like I said currently makou will not support the model portion.  I would have to edit every field by hand again.
That looks like a bug in Makou Reactor code. Please inform its developer about it.
hey

7th Heaven does not want to work on my windows 8.1 desktop computer at all

everytime i start up ff7 on it, it goes to a black screen all day
Again: inform its developer about its bug.

People! Don't forget to give developers as much information as possible!
As a developer myself (currently not related to the hacking/modding scene), I give great value to bug reports with as much relevant information as possible.

60
It would make sense if it only extended to mods and tools but it has been stated by other people and more Tec savvy people that not all programs that run on windows 7 will run on windows 8.  Other people from business have said stuff that ran fine on windows 7 does not run on windows 8.
What you say would make sense if it were not the case that such issues only happen to a certain few people and not every user.
There must be something else specific to this case.
By the way, I am one of those savvy people, and of course not always all programs that run on WinY will run on WinX. It happens with every release.
But overtime (mostly even before WinX release) third party software gets updated to support the new Windows release.
Anyway that's usually just a tiny fraction of software, and the even more tiny fraction of software that doesn't get updated... the company behind won't usually accept its blame.

This is not a case of "it crashes at start-up" or "it doesn't run properly", it is a case of just some few people having problems with
some third party software that most other people run without any problem at all in the same OS.

Look, I am telling you all this because I have plenty experience with this kind of problems.
In this case it's just hard to fix a problem when you can't experience it or there is not enough information or can't access the affected system.

Sorry I could not be of more help. Good luck, or simply go back to Windows 7 which is a great OS and a perfectly valid option too. :-)  For now...

61
I see.
Can you confirm to me that those errors happen even with Administrator rights? (right-click->Run as Administrator).

If so, then it is a 7th Heaven bug under Windows 8.1 but not a Windows 8.1 bug for 7th Heaven (subtle difference, isn't it?).
In that case you should contact the developer of said program to fix whatever incompatibilities lie on the source-code by providing the relevant information that might be requested to you.

EDIT: I found this
7H has problems to load more than one subscription at the start and only displays the mods of the last subscription. After letting it check all the subscriptions it loads all mods of the subscriptions in the catalog.
It might be related to your problem?

If you are using Wi-Fi, is it protected with a password?
If the old password has changed, and you have not set the new one on your side... (nah, that would be too obvious).
If that's not the case, you will have to give more information regarding your Wi-Fi settings. Though that's a bit off-topic here, isn't it?

62
Eh, they're making their best attempts with Castlevania, and Silent Hills sill has a lot of potential to be great.
Unless I've missed a new Castlevania game being developed right now, the last 3 games were developed completely by MercurySteam, a Spanish independent team.
While pretty good games, these weren't the now-classic SotN style since Konami acted only as the IP holder, nothing more.
Though I've heard some very weird rumour about Kojima giving a few tips to the team (shouldn't that be Koji Igarashi? Who, by the way, abandoned Konami in 2014 ).

Silent Hills... well, still too early to be hyped, if you even like that game series. But yeah.

Someone, somewhere, should write an epic story on what has happened to Konami in the last decade or so. It would be fun sad to read.
The same happened in the last decade or more with most classic AAA japanese 3rd parties: "$quare €nix", "Crapcom"... the only one still somehow surviving well is Bandai Namco.

PS: Come on people! Open your eyes! I'm not happy with that at all, but that's how it is.

63
Sounds like Konami needs to press up up down down left right left right B A start.
Really? I don't think they have any tricks under their sleeve, though. They simply can't do better anymore.
All they want to do nowadays is survive milking Metal Gear and the long time inferior soccer game series PES.

64
I do nothing with the routers and such.  My ipod will be connected and my ps4 as well yet windows 8.1 will go down a couple of times in a day now.
It is hard to come to a fix if you don't provide any relevant information.
With the little information provided by you, I can only recommend you to search for Windows updates, or update your system if there is any update still pending.

Is your Windows 8.1 system connected to the internet through Wi-Fi or directly?
What software have you installed recently?
Did you accidentally modify any settings related to your internet connection?
Maybe I or someone else can help you if you answer those simple questions.

I have not encountered any such issues, really, nor have I ever heard of anyone else having them, except you, and maybe Shard (if he/she can confirm it was on Windows 8.1 too).
I haven't met any problem with either FF7 or FF8. It could very well be a bug with some third party mod or tool. Have you tried running them with Administrator rights?

As I said I constantly encounter users rapidly blaming Windows (any version) and after some time then finding out the culprit was some other installed software or even the user itself.

65
R.I.P. Konami.
R.I.P. Kojima.
R.I.P. Metal Gear.

What's the latest good quality game released by Konami, aside of MG related games?
It has some good IPs completely abandoned, like Suikoden amongst my favourites jRPG series ever.
Dan't say PES, please. That would be a very bad joke.  :x
Konami casted to itself the Death Sentence spell, very long ago.  :'(

I wonder if Kojima will be able to invent new good IPs, or if he will get employed by another company like Square Enix or a western one like Electronic Arts.  ::)

66
I had a Windows update once that disabled all my networking completely. Now I only let them install required security updates, and I never try any betas or RCs.
What version of Windows was that?  ???
But yeah, even though rare, sometimes things get broken with rushed updates. You are not the only one, sadly. :(

EDIT: Did any of you successfully run FF7 or FF8 with and without mods on an updated Windows 8.1 system?

67
So they 'enhanced' the Ad-hoc network option away?  ???
I can't check this right now, but I bet it was simply unnecesarily moved from its prior placement.
OK, a simple search in google revealed I am right: http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-set-up-wireless-ad-hoc-internet-connection-in-windows-8/

hey guys

my display driver crashed on me today while i was streaming kingdom hearts 2 today

do you think thats a windows 8 issue problem
No. That's probably a problem with your GPU video driver, and most likely an OutOfMemory GPU crash.
Of course, it could be caused by PCSX2 if that's what you were using to play KH2 on your computer.

Could be I swear now windows 8.1 is disconnecting internet on me for no apparent reason.  All my other devices are set up fine.  When it happens I have to unplug everything and plug them in again.
Now, this is interesting. I've never heard of something like this before.
Is that Wi-Fi or direct connection? Is your router updated regularly?

I can't believe people go so far as to blame Windows itself when there are many other factors to examine first.
Most of the time, problems come from third party software components.
And the worst case is when the problem is caused by the user itself, either directly or by being kind of ignorant.

Q-Gears / Re: How about moving to UNREAL 4.X?
« on: 2015-03-25 03:32:37 »
Well, it all depends on how you want it to be recreated, either 100% equal to the original -including data format limitations- or
adapting it to newer standards, surpass limitations, and make use of toolset and data integration. You'd want runtime game editing too probably.
I think another benefit would reside in the great community around UNREAL, which could help too in submitting work to Q-Gears.

I'm no expert on this matter yet I can clearly see some benefits.
Anyway it may depend too on the expertise of the development team, or the willingness to throw away some or much of the infrastructure already built to support Q-Gears if any.  :?
Now that I think about it, this all is applicable to UNITY too...  :-\

Q-Gears / How about moving to UNREAL 4.X?
« on: 2015-03-25 01:45:18 »
What the title says. Now that it is completely free for non commercial creations...
Would it be too difficult to recreate the PSOne era FF engines on it? Is it worth the trouble?

I think such an advanced yet seemingly simple to use and well supported tool would benefit the advancement in Q-Gears.

70
Maybe it's fixed in 8.1?  ???
Windows 8 is not a great system at all
Well, it's nearly the same as Win7 but with many internal and external enhancements.
It got hated simply because of the additional nearly optional and completely unnecessary UI, which is ridiculous, but may make sense if you think about some IT journalist lobbies and what's behind them. :-X

Team Avalanche / Re: Midgar Revival
« on: 2015-03-24 14:37:09 »
I'm not too fond of modeling interiors, I might just leave that to someone else.

I think i'm finally done tweaking the materials

Is that metallic texture badly scaled, or it has the wrong pattern? It doesn't look right to me. Not very realistical for that cool Midgar City model.  :-\

72
As far as I know the initial concept was first presented in 1994 right after finishing FF6 and preproduction
happened in 1995 right after finishing Chrono Trigger
, then the project began full-production during 1996.

By the way, and on-topic, SpooX, you are doing some awesome work here. Wish I had some such ability.

73
Ah, I expected to see a
Code: [Select]
1F 8B 08 there in the middle but seems like I was wrong.  :|

Four first bytes are usually just a useless tag for format identification so you should try nulling further bytes in the 8-16 first bytes.
Perhaps there's data like compression type, offsets, or uncompressed file size or something? (that should affect the game...) ???

EDIT: Or maybe the file is not compressed at all? Or only parts if it is a multi-file compressed directory with offsets to files and flags for compressed/not-compressed?

74
.X files?

In FF7 those are gzip compressed files like BATTLE.X and others in the same folder.
If you could post the first 16 bytes... maybe is the same or similar?

75
My QGears tool for conversion outputs:

0000036F: void script_av_b_2_0_init() {
0000036F:   Char(1);
00000371:   placeObject(0, 0, 3437, 31524, 642);
0000037C:   setSolid(1);
0000037C:   if (game:variable_get(2_0) >= 8) {
00000386:     setTalkable(1);
00000388:     setSolid(1);
0000038A:   }
0000038A:   setVisible(0);
0000038C:   return;
0000038C: }

From:

0000036f: CHAR 1
00000371: XYZI 0, 0, 3437, 31524, 642, 47
0000037c: SOLID 1
0000037e: IFSW 2, 0, 0, 8, 4, 7 (False target address: 0x38a)
00000386: TLKON 1
00000388: SOLID 1
0000038a: VISI 0
0000038c: RET

It seems that VISI 0 should be outside of the if statement, but your tool is including it inside of the if statement? Is this a bug in your tool or mine? I think its yours because 0x37e+7+5 = 0x38A which is the VISI 0 meaning this will be executed when the if block is not entered.

Not related, but, isn't that code redundant?
