i was hoping to get it done by the end of this week, but the current release date is well, never.

I cannot seem to the scenes to recompress to the right size, & till i do theres nothing to release.

You can do them with a GeForce very easily... just go into your video card options, there is a shaders + custom shaders options in there somewhere.

Ive not the slightest idea how to do it on a ati although.

*edit
ATI Tray Tools, has options for shader effects. custom ones can be added for opengl apps but you can only choose out of a handle full for direct x

Hmmm, doesnt sound good.

with the current level of compression it will need 48 sections instead of 33, so just a standard scenefile will take up 393,216bytes.
(I dont think that will work in game, but im going to try it anyway till i get something better)

Im just using the GZipStream compression & Decompression methods provided with .net, maybe i should be using different ones.

*edit*
tried in game, just caused crashes.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / SceneFile Compression
« on: 2006-09-28 04:13:30 »
Hey,

Ive got my program extracting & de-compressing all parts of the scenefile ok, and all the data in in those files are ok and in the right spots... but when i try to recompress any of those files, without anychanges made to them, they come out about 300bytes bigger than the originals.

Does anybody know what causes this, is there some trick to successfully compress the files?

Theres not much point, from what ive seen all of them had bugs.

Thats why im making a new single tool to do both the .bin extraction + edit.
meanwhile reallife delays me with lowsy assignments & sickness.

The dragster car he was driving was believed to have been travelling at about 300mph when it crashed.

Holy hell, i knew lambo can do 300kph but 300mph is just insane.

Any chance of a 'Sneak preview'?
no ... nothing but code to look at, interface has nothing on it at the moment.

So, how much of it is working/completed?
60% (100%editor, 10%scenereader)

Unfortunately DirectX 10 is to be Vista only (last I heard), as is Halo 2, not that I really want to play it (technical reasons, though one has to wonder...) So chances are that'll be enough to make/force many gamers to upgrade.
Yep true,

This is the exact error you get if you dont. word for word.

Could not initialize Direct3D 10. This application requires a Direct3D 10 class device (hardware or reference rasterizer) running on Windows Vista (or later).

That goofball Kefka from III/VI

Everytime I fought him in that tunnel on the minecart (if I'm not mistaken), my game would freeze.

The SNES cart did it, and then the freaking Playstation disc did it.

Kefka.... ahh the good old days of when the bad guys were actually insane, not just missunderstood educated military men with a message to get across to the public that involves blowing up new york to do so... only to turn good at the end when they are lossing the fight to end up been ended buried with a 12gun military heros salute.

My most hated monsters are any that are killed in one move.
- Battle Swirle, 2.0 seconds
- Fight, 0.5 seconds
- victory screen, 5.0 seconds             ..... i think you see what im gettin at there

Booster : A Support materia with no use, may boost AP gained.
That would make sense seeing as there is exp+ and gp+

I got kicked in the balls at uni today. metaphorically speaking

I passed off doing a minor assessment item for a team in one unit, to focus on a much more important assessment with my other team in a different unit... was in the uni from 8am till 8am after doing an all nighter a different assessment equally important. Only to end up getting stabbed in the back by two of the team members... now our group of four is two groups of two. And will now have to end up attending lame ebarassing meetings with the tutors to explain whos done what and so on...

Im sures yous dont care about any of that,
... and i just got distracted by disco stu over here  and lost completely what it was i was getting to...

So yeah, end of rant ~ time to get the groove on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_wU0qhEPR8, heh

Ive the editor side of things pretty much done, ive did most of it a while ago and am only just gettin around to finishing it off. However due to a hard disk failure (well more like a user partition *coff*98se*coff* error ) + shody recovery app there is alot of bugs through it where the text has gotten jumled.

e.g. re§ease,  that somehow ended up as the name of my release folder... notice the wierd s.

There is stuff like that all through the code. Its a real pain in the butt, i havent gotten to sorting through it yet.

The scenereader part i only just started but progress has been smooth so far so yeah i hoping to have some kind of test version done next week sometime.

And a howdy from me too,

The biggest, of course, being Q-gears.

(Will insert link when I get to the PC)

How is that q-gears thing going, ive only read briefly over some forums regarding it. Are many people working on it?

*edit*
oh yeah, the reason i signed up is im hoping to upload some tools in a week or so... ive been messing around with the scene.bin file with the help of the wiki. Its a scenereader & editor combined... well it will be if all goes well.
