After reading Covarr's FF7Music tutorial (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8493.0) (and don't forget his installer (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=10546)) and Timber's looping tutorial (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=10294), I decided to take Final FanTim's OST Remastered Edition (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8160.0) and convert it to looping OGGs (with his permission, of course!).
Now, in case you don't know what I mean by "looping" or if you're thinking "my mp3's repeat just fine when they get to the end of the song," allow me to explain the three major benefits of looping OGGs:
- The music loop in an OGG can be the whole song or part of it. Some songs have an "intro" section (which is only supposed to be played once) followed by the main section which is supposed to repeat forever. Looping OGGs can do this, MP3s cannot.
- With songs that loop back to the very beginning, there can sometimes be a slight delay with MP3s--even if you trim off all of the silence from the beginning and end of the song. With OGGs you can loop seamlessly.
- Some songs in FF7 are not meant to loop (Steal The Tiny Bronco!, The Makou Cannon Is Fired ~ Shinra Explodes, etc.), but if you have the "loop custom files" option in FF7Music checked, they will loop. To solve this, I made the relevant OGGs loop through a section of silence once they are done playing. I also added them to the "exclude from resume" list (just in case you reload your game without closing FF7Music). Side note: it might also be possible to just uncheck the "loop custom files" option, but I didn't test this. Also, some people may choose to still use some MP3s, in which case they need this option to remain checked.

Rapidshare: http://rapidshare.com/files/417125462/OSTRE_Looped.zip (http://rapidshare.com/files/417125462/OSTRE_Looped.zip)
Included in the release are:
- 93 songs, including 2 unmodified OSTRE MP3s and a few alternate files (see notes below).
- FF7MUSIC.ini
- Excel spreadsheet with my notes and offsets for the LOOPSTART and LOOPLENGTH parameters for each song.
General notes:
- I started this project using an old version of the OSTRE (downloaded via torrent because I thought it would save me some download time--which it did, but it totally wasn't worth it). Later, I used files from the latest version to update and fix those files which needed updating and fixing. If I missed any, I apologize (and please let me know if you notice!).
- I tested most of the songs by playing through the whole game once. However, I might not have listened to every song loop through at least once to verify that it was looping correctly. Also, I made some changes afterwards based on my testing. So, everything should loop correctly, but please let me know if you find anything that needs fixing!
- I used Goldwave while figuring out the looping points and Audacity to convert to OGGs. OGG conversion was done with quality=9, which may have increased the file sizes somewhat, but I didn't want to decrease the quality from the original. All files were converted exactly once from their OSTRE counterparts - no copies of copies! If you want more information on the process, tools, etc. that I used, feel free to ask.
A few notes about specific songs:
- bee - 16 - Honeybee Manor: Both the OST and OSTRE have the following error in the song: At around 1:10 there is a sequence followed by an "answering" sequence from another instrument (I think it's an oboe, but I'm not very good at identifying instruments). The "answering" instrument is about 3-4 seconds later than it should be. For example, the first "answering" sequence should start around 1:14.5 but instead starts at about 1:18. Because I find this annoying, I have included an alternate file which is based on the original MIDI. To use this alternate file, comment out (by putting "//" at the beginning) the line "bee=16 - Honeybee Manor.ogg" and uncomment the line "//bee=(bee) 1-16 - Honeybee Manor.ogg" in your FF7MUSIC.ini file -- or select the appropriate file in your FF7Music configuration.
- cintro: Though it seems from the name that this should be just the intro part of 05 - Those Chosen By The Planet, I found it very annoying to listen to just the short (12 second) intro over and over again while inside the Shinra Mansion. So, the ini file I provided uses the full version of the song (same as for the "cephiros" entry). If you want to use the intro-only version for this, just comment out the line "cintro=05 - Those Chosen By The Planet.ogg" and uncomment "//cintro=05 - Those Chosen By The Planet - Intro.ogg" or choose the appropriate file in your FF7Music configuration. There's also a no-intro version of this song, but I don't know if this is ever used in the game.
- comical: Is this ever used in the game? Left blank in the ini I provided.
- tb - 01 - Final Fantasy VII Main Theme B: Not sure if this is ever used in the game either.
- oa - 02 - Opening ~ Bombing Mission and fin - 17 - World Crisis: I didn't change these or convert them to OGGs -- they are not actually used in the game since they are embedded in the movie files. But, I included them, unmodified, in the pack just for the sake of completion.
Thanks go to Covarr and Timber for their excellent tutorials. Thanks also go to Ficedula for FF7Music. Finally, a big thanks to Final FanTim for letting me use his OST Remastered Edition!

Well, Sir Awesome, you have certainly lived up to your name. Thanks for this.
IIRC there are two world map themes.. TA and TB. TB plays once meteor is summoned, or maybe even earlier.
-
Wow you Sir are really awesome! Thanks for this! Actually I was trying to loop this too but I can't seem to loop all of them properly so I stopped. Once again thanks man. :)
-
Now that is a proper first post! Excellent work and welcome to Qhimm!
-
You sir, are a legend. Downloading now!
I'm glad you liked my tutorial :)
I think the only real problem with FF7Music now is that there is no fading.
Can't really fix that until someone makes a music plugin for Aali's driver though.
Side note: it might also be possible to just uncheck the "loop custom files" option, but I didn't test this. Also, some people may choose to still use some MP3s, in which case they need this option to remain checked.
This is correct, the loop custom files option does not effect the looping oggs, because the oggs never really stop playing.
Both the OST and OSTRE have the following error
This makes me curious, did you make a looping version of the original OST too?
Although uploading those here wouldn't really be legal, documenting the LOOPSTART and LOOPLENGTH parameters for each song would be great for those who would like to do it themselves :).
-
did you make a looping version of the original OST too?
Nope, just listened to it and heard the same error that I noticed in the OSTRE. I can't be the only one who noticed it! I mean, it sounds weird, as soon as I heard it I thought, "I don't think it's supposed to be like that". And I hadn't played the game (or heard that track) for over 2 years before that. Just compare the two files in my release, I'm sure you'll hear it too.
Although uploading those here wouldn't really be legal, documenting the LOOPSTART and LOOPLENGTH parameters for each song would be great for those who would like to do it themselves
Actually, I did document all of the LOOPSTART and LOOPLENGTH parameters :). It's all in the excel spreadsheet that's included in the release. However, they'll likely not be the exact same for the original OST files.

Hot diggity damn! You mind if I include this in a future version of my installer? I've already got FinalFanTim's go ahead to use his remastered soundtrack, but I don't wanna use somebody else's hard work without asking.
By the way, you really deserve your username. Seriously, this is awesome.
-
You mind if I include this in a future version of my installer?
By all means, feel free to include it.

Done and done. (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=10546.0) Thanks, bro!

Well for me the music was central the Final Fantasy VII gaming experience, and with your looped OOG files you have successfully emulated the feel of the original game, with mp3 quality music, and for that we are grateful. ^_^.
Thank you,

Well, Sir Awesome, you have certainly lived up to your name. Thanks for this.
IIRC there are two world map themes.. TA and TB. TB plays once meteor is summoned, or maybe even earlier.
I think TB is for certain event scene, like 'in the Lifestream'. Actually, TB is later part of TA. And, I'm sure 'Bombing Mission' part is used for some scenes, though I can't recall where(haven't played it for years...).
-
Anyone test it out yet? Notice any issues or changes to make? Please let me know! Thanks!
-
I haven't tested it super-thoroughly, but the songs I've tried all sounded good.

How come this lacks any instructions what so ever on installing it?
I love the work that is being done on this game and how much better it's starting to look and sound.
How ever the lack of professionality really irritates me on this forum.

How ever the lack of professionality really irritates me on this forum.
how much more professional can you get than installers that automatically find your FF7 directory and install mods for you? Maybe you would like me to ship future versions of the Team Avalanche Reconstruction Project to your house with a full-color CD, Jewel Case, and instruction manual containing back story on the game?
lol, you can even buy retail products that come with that anymore.
I'd suggest getting a few hundred posts under your belt before you criticize anyone's work around here, we're all REALLY tight like that.

How come you lack politeness or tact? Did you lose your instruction manual for it? Your lack of it really irritates me.

Wow, only 2 posts but you're being successfully annoying for no reason. Make another and I'll consider this spam.
EDIT: My bad, sl. This is all yours I guess.
-
So all 3 of you mis understood me... :|
For professionality I was thinking more of about clear guides that ff modding newbies can understand. Most of the info and topics I'v seen around the site which includes getting peoples mods applied to the game. It's like the mod makers are making those for just the regular / hardened forum users and ff7 modders. Just saying how it looks from my perspective.
Why am I expected to post 100 times on a pretty dead forum to prove my politeness or intelligence for that matter?
Which on top of you first misunderstanding of my post due to arrogant assumptions and then you also start assaulting me with 10 tonns of sarcasm.
I can be polite, but not a clue what tact means so I can't do that. :-o
Besides I wouldn't consider my post offencive, I was simply saying in a constructive manner that the guide is a bit unclear and it's giving me trouble. Also I don't like seeing peoples work going to waste when it could all go towards the same goal of improving the game. That's what I meant under professionality. Now though the staff's attitude is part of that lack of professionality.
I'v modded a couple of C&C games with ongoing projects and I can gladly show my work.
I even help out the community and some admins for the classic C&C games.
Here you can see how a ''guide'' is made. In a foolproof manner. For the pro's and the newbs(yes its one of my posts).

BTW I don't speak a word of chinese.
Here's some modding work for reference.

Also your so called simple installers give me very annoying windows errors.
When everything is seemingly set up correctly.
I really hope you guys will open you're eyes now and won't do what I'm considering to be the highest probability option.

You don't have to be one to do things correctly...
Thanks for linking at least, but I already downloaded that after I downloaded the OGG tracks. Also it seems to me like your installer contains a different set of sound files then the looping OGG's posted in this topic.
It was rather confusing and I had to download two 300mb + files with no clue on what I'm actualy installing or if I'm getting the mod that I actually wanted.
PS: I never really realised until I posted on this forum that describing how you feel about something will make you an ass. I'm so sorry I didn't instantly bow down to everyone to beg for forgiveness..... (it's how ye make it look like)
Here's the deal, friend. You don't register on a site and then begin complaining about everything. If all of this is too much chaos for your ginormous brain to handle, how about make a tutorial, or organize it yourself and post that? I don't tolerate arrogance, ever. After you've been here a year or so, you can feel free to show a little arrogance, you've earned it. Also, your "accomplishments" you linked are stupid.
-
Words
Wow, you've gotta be the most pigheaded person I've ever seen on this forum. You insult us because of some imagined problems (I promise you that there are a number of in-depth tutorials similar to the one you linked to, even if you were too stupid to figure out how to look at stickies or use search), and then wonder why we get offended. I'm impressed. It really takes a lot to criticize people who created something that you either couldn't or wouldn't be able to make yourself, for not living up to your standards, because I'm sure that you deserve the best, right? Acting like you own the place is OBVIOUSLY your God-given right, and projecting your own arrogance onto the rest of us is only logical.
But I'm a nice guy, so I'm still gonna try and help you as best as I can. Muted people can still read threads, right?
To answer your question, my FF7Music installer contains two sets of audio files:
- PSF files. This is the soundtrack directly from the PlayStation version of the game.
- Looping OGGs. These are, in fact, the exact same audio from this thread. I know, because when I was assembling that installer, I DOWNLOADED THE COLLECTION FROM THIS THREAD TO USE. It's also the default, and dead simple to use. You can *say* it's different, but you'd be wrong.
-
You're too nice, Covarr.
-
He probably downloaded yours BEFORE you included the OGGs, Covarr. Doesn't excuse his arrogance, though, but I can see where he is coming from on that one. By the way, GREAT GREAT GREAT Addition. I've been avoiding FFVII music because of the bad looping issues. Now it's not a concern. Thanks Covarr for your installer. Thanks Final FanTim for your OSTRE, thanks Ficedula for an interesting alternative to the music, and thanks Sir Awesome for being plain AWESOME and doing something that was prorbably overlooked as an option to getting it just right!
-
Is it at all possible to do this with the original PSFs? Or would i have to manually convert my entire FF7 soundtrack to OGG, fix the skipping issues in some parts, and make them loop?
On topic, awesome mod, I don't use this ost but it definitely makes it a much greater add on to ff7 music.
And IMO, insomniac, if the level of professionalism on this forum irritates you, why the hell would you sign up anyway? Here's an Idea, how about you contribute by making a
mod and present it in a manner that's more "professional" then the other modders on here, then you can talk.
-
The original PSFs already loop, but it would certainly be possible to make looping OGGs out of them. But yes, it would have to be done manually.
-
The original PSFs already loop,
Do you mean from the beginning like any other formats (mp3s), or like ogg files do?
-
PSF is the actual music data from the original playstation game, including loop point. It'll loop from exactly where it's supposed to, just like it did on the original PSX version. If it doesn't, then something is set up wrong.
-

Really? I tried both my old FF7Music setup from a long time ago and the installer you provided and on both PSFs seem to just loop after the song is over, with no actual point of looping.
Is there any specific configuration i need or something?
-
Huh, I can't imagine why it's doing that. However, you're not the first person to report this, so I think there may be a mistake in my installer. If FF7Music's config, set in_psf.dll as the input plugin, go into the settings, and check "Force all songs to play indefinitely". If that fixes this, let me know.
-
I'm having no trouble with the PSF anymore, but it won't save the settings for the OGG plugin. Once I click "Save" (on the FF7Music config, not the plugin-specific one), then go in again, it reverts.
-
go into the settings, and check "Force all songs to play indefinitely". If that fixes this, let me know.
Wow, thanks for the tip, it worked.
Heh, now i feel stupid, i saw that checkbox before but i assumed it would cause songs to keep playing when they are supposed to stop.
-
Now I need to find a way to automatically set that in the installer. I never noticed that problem before.
I dunno why OGG keeps reverting. But I also don't know why it's not looping, I haven't noticed any fadeout on my machine.
-
Okay... Not too sure where this should be posted, but reading all the talk about the looping made me want to post this here.
I use all the .ogg files from OST. (VERY nice by the way. Loving them. As well as the whole installer. Makes the game just that much more awesome!) But the only problem I am having aside from a display issue is every time I go into a new room/area or after a battle the song from that area starts from the beginning rather then continuing where it left off. Is this normal? Or am I missing something that's right under my nose? :|
Sorry if I am posting out of place.
Oh and I read that little rant on the first page about 'professionalism' Just remember... Amateurs built the Ark, Professionals built the Titanic.

There's an option in FF7 music that allows you to pick and choose which songs pick up where they left off. Find out which songs you don't want to do that and uncheck them...or vice versa
-
Wow... Why didn't I notice that in the first place. Done, I deleted all on the list but the obvious ones for fights. Oh and I found a way to edit music for like the beginning bombing mission, so you don't have to listen to the intro. I went to a site called http://mytinyphone.com It's meant for editing songs to make into ringtones... But it works just the same. You can cut out parts of a song or select where you want the song to begin. SO I just made it play after the intro. Then just save the file it makes to your computer. I believe it's in MP3 format.
Not sure if that helps for anything. But just thought I would share a discovery of mine.
Thank you, Obesebear, for pointing that out to me, about the option. Not sure how I missed that one.
-
Gotta say this is the coolest thing since sliced bread. I honestly can't tell you how amazing this is.
One note: Make sure you set your input .dll to loop indefinitely. Also if some people are having problems remember to get and put in_vgmstream.dll AND it's external .dlls into your ff7music directory.
Also I noticed the sound effects in the field have been getting drowned out by the music. I don't know why this is, ff7music volume is set to 100 (it was 179 before) but it doesn't seem like that changed it. My example is Barret shooting Nanaki's cage in the shinra building. Barely even audible. Thoughts? Comments? Solutions?
EDIT: Okay solved my own problem. 100 is still too high. Strange it goes so high (255) if you only want to use 1-100. I'm using 65 but I'm thinking 50 is probably perfect.
Okay so it turns out 35 sounds as close to 1 to 1 as I'm going to get. I know this is the wrong thread but is there anyway to jack the FX volume?
-
The links for this file are dead. Would someone re-upload or make a torrent for it? I just got the re-released version of FF7 and, as much as I love Anxious Heart, I want to give this soundtrack a try, too!
(Also, sorry for the necrobump.)
-
This has all the songs looped, but you will need to rename them to work with the rerelease. (https://rapidshare.com/files/3555615999/OSTRe.7z)
-
OK, I'm assuming that these OGG files are based off of an older version of Final FanTim's work since his release post that lists updated tracks was last edited in 2011 and Sir_Awesome III's release post here was last edited in 2010, right? Assuming that those guys don't check this board anymore, is there anyone else who would be willing to convert the updated tracks to OGG to bring it up to date? I'd do it myself, but I have no idea how to set up looping and such in OGG files.
(Thanks a bunch for the link, Corvarr!)

Went and formatted each of those to be compatible with the re-release. (looping included!)

I found a bug when using this soundtrack in the new release of FF7. When you sleep at an inn, the screen fades to black and the music (yado.ogg, or Good Night, Until Tomorrow) plays as expected, but the game apparently locks up (the screen stays black and all controls are non-responsive). Could be because the remastered track is a few seconds longer than the original, but I'm just guessing here.
-
I've hard about this... does it do with with my ogg's too? if so yeah, maybe length matters for it. Which is stupid.
-
No, your OGG works fine. Only locks up with the remastered version. I even tried it at two different inns in the game, but got the same result.
-
I'm not so sure about the length theory now. I just compared the lengths of the three tracks (original PC, Anxious Heart, and Remastered) and the differences are:
AH: 7.93 sec
Original: 10.36 sec
Remastered: 10.62 sec
Unless the game has a really weird cutoff length (like 10.5 sec), it's probably something else.
-
Double check and make sure there's no looping metadata AT ALL for that song. A common mistake I've seen on looping music is to set a loop at the end so that it just plays silence until the next event or song starts, however, that is incorrect for the new FF7 because the game actually uses music timing for some things (90% sure, don't quote me on this). If there's no loop at all, the song should stop correctly and allow the game to continue.
-
Yep, that was the problem. I removed the looping metadata and it works now!

The looping metadata needs to be removed from walz.ogg as well, else the poor dears at the Chocobo Ranch will dance for you forever (and you won't be able to progress the game).

How do you remove the looping metadata?
-
There is a problem with the fanfare at Juno, when doing the special move, practicing, in the shinra clothes. Same looping metadata
-
basically, every tune that has to end has a problem in your OST.
Walz, Fanfare and so on all end. They do not loop.

Yeah, you're right, this was the same issue with yado as well. I think I've tracked down the the problem now... instead of loopstart being deleted from the tags altogether like I had thought I did, a random space was added in, keeping it in place and looping. Went through again and removed this error from cannon, fanfare, jyro, mogu, riku, ro, roll, si, tb, walz. Not sure what caused it.

Shit happens. 8)
-
At the end of Cosmo Canyon, the sequence with seto, bugenhagen and nanaki, the sound gets stuck in a little 3 second loop at the end, and freezes the game.
-
Does it replace the remastered OST installed with Bootleg0039 ?
-
is there another mirror out there for this awesome pack as megaupload is dead and the rapidshare link well it's not on rapidshare anymore :(
-
There are google docs mirrors for most of the soundtrack files:
Final Fantasy VII Sound and Music (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=12503.msg173805#msg173805)
-
yes there is but the remastered looping had also files there witch made it compatible with FF7 music witch the V4 update did not have.
Edit: is there meant to be files missing like J-E-N-O-V-A aka comical?
-
J-E-N-O-V-A aka comical?
comical isn't used in the game.
-
I'd also like to know if there is somewhere else to find the looping .ogg files since the remastered OST is very well done.
-
Hi Sir
As you might know, SE has released the new FFVII "port" on steam. Appearantly your installer does not work with steam so I made a selfextractor using your files for those on steam unable/willing to manually mod the game (lot of b1tching going on there about the music being the pc and not the psx version)
Now I noticed that Yado seemed to crash the game, reading a bit here (didn't read all though) I see it counts for more then one file.
Currently I am downloading the "fix" v4, are all files in there redone? or are there just a few files that need replaced (meaning, can I make a smaller "fix" file for steam or does everything need to be in there)
in the topic on steam I have of course given credits to you and FinalFanTim for doing the work on this. I am just a "humble messenger" in this. My thanks is great :)
-
Currently I am downloading the "fix" v4, are all files in there redone? or are there just a few files that need replaced (meaning, can I make a smaller "fix" file for steam or does everything need to be in there)
I link to this v4 fix by PacGamer on my HQ Models for Unconverted STEAM/SE Release Page (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=14405.msg201555#msg201555). I have personally tested them only so far as where you run through the church with Aeris. At which point it was clear the native .ogg support was fixing things that are off with ff7music. Then I went back to Aali's .11b driver. There has been some speculation that there may be problems with the music from the final battle with Sephiroth. Please let us know if you find some issues with any of them and perhaps I'll find a way to fix them.
To answer your specific question, I think all of those files need to be there and it is as small as it can be. PacGamer already removed the files that were unneeded, and these will simply not be overwritten.

Thanks for your reply. I haven't encountered any problems so far nor did I got any complaints from those that used the Selfex. with the Fix4 files
Currently also checking out the AH set to see what I like most personally, it's nice you people on here give us a choice and I thank you all for doing so :)
oj almost forgot
the link to the 32bit selfextractor is http://www.4shared.com/file/UQn-HkKW/ffvii_ost_remastered_steam_ver.html
the link to the 64bit extractor is http://www.4shared.com/file/mlb9U5ZJ/ffvii_ost_remastered_steam_ver.html
both of course contain the original Readme, they do come with an initial pop-up shortly explaining the setup and giving credits to those who deserve them.

Wow, hard to believe it's been 3 years since I posted this! As you may have noticed, I don't check back on this forum very often. Apologies for the dead links. I've re-uploaded to rapidshare and google drive.

Just a reminder, the above is for the 1998 PC game only. I believe Covarr's installer (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=10546) still works too, although I did not test it.
Thanks, PacGamer, for the 2012 version re-release (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=10723.msg188357#msg188357)! Although... you did not credit me :'(
Thanks, Whizzy, for the Steam version re-release (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=10723.msg203328#msg203328)!
I tried to add these links to my original post as well, but was unable to modify it, kept getting an error...
