Title: Disabling the Magic Menu
Post by: Sega Chief on 2016-06-14 23:28:46
Hi all, so there's a variable the game sets (set word?) to enable the Materia option in the Menu, toggle PHS, etc. But I was wondering what I would enter as a value if I wanted to disable the Magic menu; it's for a quick mod I'm putting together.

Edit: Figured it out by accident just after I made the thread :l

:P  The answer is by using the field script - there are masks for menu availability and also menu locking.

See 0xBC0.

You can also see the Save Points in the game to see how the PHS and Save option are locked and unlocked.

D:

Right, so the script sets 2-28 as 65279 to get Materia enabled when Barret asks for a tutorial. I had this hunch that because Magic sits above Materia in the menu, the two numbers before 65279 would handle Magic's toggle so I went with 65277 and it turned out to be a lucky guess :x

So there's a Lock thing too; that might come in handy.

You can test with Ochu (shameless promotion).

Well, there has to be locking if you think about it - otherwise how would the save point disable and enable PHS / Save?

Ochu should be packaged with the game; very useful tool.

(or should I say Oytugh  :-P)

I use Ochu for the tool now because I realized the spelling Otyugh was not good for spreading the gospel. haha
