DoC Vincent retexture project
« on: 2012-07-31 22:56:58 »
I don't know if any of you have ever had the chance to use Kula Wende's AC mod, but I thought that his blatant use of the Dirge of Cerberus textures was a bit lazy; as such, I'm undergoing a small project of my own, retexturing and maybe remodeling some of the old Kula Wende AC vincent.
I wasn't able to get ahold of Wende, but, seeing as my project involves making the model 100% kosher, I'm gonna cross my fingers and hope you'll allow me to display what I've done so far.
And maybe you'll let me release it when I'm finished.

SO FAR:

 - Hair (Altered the model to be a bit more spikey)
 - Face (Altered to be more like the AC vincent - Thanks to Leonhart7413 for the suggestion.)
 - Altered the collar to cover his face a little
 - Cape looks a bit less cardboardy
 - Fixed the cape animation so it doesn't flap around so wildly.
 - Buckles

TO DO: (A.K.A Not legal yet)
 - Fabric
 - Leggings and Arms
 - Metal arm and boot
 - Possibly his weapons

Hopefully it's alright for me to show this off. >_>

Actually, unless he suddenly resumed work on models, that Vincent is a custom one from JKA.  But it does indeed look terrible so feel free to improve on it as best you can.

The eyes look 150% better with the new picture reference. Just need to get him a good plastic surgeon for that nose issue he's got going on. Other than that the face looks good. Although I wonder if you could make him look slightly less angry. In all my time playing I always saw Vincent as distraught about his past, and maybe angry inside, but he seemed to always keep his composure. The brows make him look menacing, and while he is intimidating, I don't think they suit him well... Other Opinions?

Great work so far though, the face is the hardest part to nail, and it seems like you've got a good start.

Also, look out for that "Cross" on his face that the lighting is creating. The upper face on your new one looks a lot better/smoother with the lighting, but his chin still has that straight bar of light that looks unnatural.

There we go. Nose fixed. I also removed some eyebrow, so he should look a little less sinister.

Also, the 'Cross of light' is intentional. When Vincent is in any other pose, it works as shadow from the collar.
The pose I'm taking these pictures from is his 'dead' pose; which obviously you can't normally look under. XD

I noticed the color of his skin doesn't look so dead in this video...

Sadly I lost my layered PNG in a crash. So going back to make his skin a bit more 'Not dead' is a bit difficult.

BUT, on a story basis, he has just been laying in a coffin for 30 years. I'm assuming he wouldn't have much of a tan.
And DoC takes place several years later, so he would probably be a bit darker skinned.
It's amazing to think that he's actually 60 years old in DoC. XD

I guess he is kinda biotech-enhanced with augmented members... anyway if you can improve the skin color somehow but with a sense of paleness it would be nice.

Thanks very much.
I've done as you mentioned, and given his skin a bit more of a lifelike tone.

On another note, I've just had another crack at the cape's model. I think it looks much better, and more Dirgey.

Maaaan fixing animations is tedious. It doesn't help that I've got "David Bowie - Warszawa" playing.

Or that it's 4am.
XD I'll resume tomorrow.

EDIT: I'll leave you with a current progress pic.

So, Just out of interest, would anyone actually consider using this model/texture?

Don't mind if I do... :P :P :P! Skin color looks better now. I don't know if you can edit the eyes to seem more detailed not like a black shadow with dark red. And the forehead just a bit noticeable over the eyebrows will seem more natural. I think if you brighten the cape's color and give it a little bit more bright red (not too bright like in the re-model project) it will be perfect. Maybe brighten his black uniform a bit too so shadows will be more obvious, I'm not an expert on this though just suggesting.

P.S.: Cape looks so wicked!!!

Ugh. I'd hoped I could avoid this but...

Vincent's backside, aka sfbm/sgbm/shbm isn't assigned to a texture group, so I have no idea how to put a texture on it.
It's the same with all of the other models, which is why I haven't retextured anything before this.
Any hints? >_>

I don't know. That was an issue I came accross on the FF wiki.
There's one or two continuity errors in FFVII regarding Vincent.
When you first enter the Shinra mansion, you find a letter written by Hojo, saying that he put Vincent to sleep in a coffin; yet Vincent claims that he chose to sleep there himself.
You meet Vincent in FFVII Before Crisis which takes place about 6 years before the main story of VII; and he's wearing his red cloak.
One can make many assumptions.

My personal theory is that Vincent was put to sleep in the Coffin by Hojo, he then woke up a short while later and struggled with his body and mind. Perhaps he donned the red cloak and headband feeling that it suited his bestial form more. THEN he got into the coffin and decided that it was his punishment to sleep in an eternal nightmare.

EDIT: Also, I fixed my problem. No worries. ¦D
