Completely Unrelated / ps3 freezing..
« on: 2011-04-08 18:51:17 »
The subject pretty much explains it all. My ps3 is constantly freezing, sometimes immediately when i turn it on, and it never goes more than 5 mins before it freezes. It doesnt matter if im playing a game or not, sometimes the disk isnt even in. I got the YLoD a while back, and I got everything working again. Im hoping this isnt the start of that again because before my little brother had it when the light came. Any ideas on whats causing this or what I can do to fix it? I guess if its bad news to tell me also ]=

General Discussion / ff7/ff8 psn?
« on: 2011-03-05 23:35:58 »
I have googled, I have attempted a search here, which isnt the easiest  >:( grr. Oh well, my question is, are there any differences in the psn versions of ff7 or ff8 other than the fact that you dont need to use a disc?

Another question is, the Chocoworld, did they implement some way of using it? or is Apocalypse and Minimog and such just completely unobtainable now?

Completely Unrelated / This is about NJ..
« on: 2011-03-02 07:40:12 »
I am originally from New Jersey, and I keep seeing Jersey Shore on TV and everyone loves it. Well I hate it. And everybody in the world decides lets pick on Jersey, even if they have never been there and have no idea what its like. I am not going to keep going with this or it will turn into a rant, and that is not what this post is about. I have a few questions for everybody here.

First off - Have you ever been to New Jersey?

If so - Did you hate it? Or think it was anything like how people make it out to be or that ridiculous show makes it seem to be?

I just want input as to why everybody has to pick on NJ. We may be small, but that is in no way a reason to bully us.

General Discussion / FF8 garden going mobile scene.
« on: 2011-02-11 00:30:19 »
Ok, everytime I play through this game, I tell myself that I am going to switch up the characters I use to see what different results I get. You know just little dumb stuff like conversations and such. Well I always forget to put Rinoa on the missle base team, because I have always been curious about this one scene. Right after the garden goes mobile, but before you turn away from Balamb town, you are supposed to go out on the 2nd floor deck and see what things look like. When you walk outside it cuts to a scene of Rinoa with her hair in the wind and all. Then its over. What I want to know is, if you have her on the missle base team, is there no cut scene when you walk outside? Or is there a different cut scene for a different person..?

General Discussion / FF8 mods for psx?
« on: 2011-01-16 08:14:19 »
Is there anyway to apply any of the mods posted here to my psx version of the game? I will admit that i have run many 'backups' on my ps2 of psc games, but I own about 7 legit copies of FF8. Only because one disc will go missing, or one will get too scratched, and buying a new copy includes all 4 discs, so i have multiple versions of each disc, different amounts of each. BUT. if there is anyway to make a backup of one of, or all of these discs, and create basically my own disc of FF8, the original but with mods, to RUN in the psx it would be great to know how. It is Saturday night, and I am well passed buzzed so I apologize if this doesnt make sense, I will clarify anything that needs clarification in the morning. But bottom line is, I want to add some of the mods available to me here, to my psx version as well as my PC version.

EDIT: finished incomplete sentence.

Completely Unrelated / PS3, oh no, YLoD ]=
« on: 2010-11-29 23:43:01 »
I am gonna start off topic just to say that I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving + weekend. Oh, and I only have one more day until my warning is gone! I realize I havent been on as much now as I have previously, but I have just had the worst luck, first my desktop went (ugh and I just finished it, I let it run for 10 mins to make sure it was working, I had yet to install the liquid cooling, shut it down, and my girl turned it on while I was out, and didnt turn it off, it ran with no cooling for god know how long) , then the laptop burned up. And now the ps3, I feel like I was married to lady luck, then she caught me cheating on her and now its revenge time.

I was very happy that i still owned the original 60 gig ps3 from when it first came out. YES, I spent $500 for it (at least I didnt go on eBay and spend over a thousand, and i know some people who did). Oh yes back on topic, well I was very happy that I had it for so long and did not receive the dreaded 'Yellow Light of Death' as so many others who have the original have been. And alas I am at a dilemma, I am out of warranty, and Sony wants to charge me almost 200 bucks to 'fix' it. When all reality all the do is give you a refurbished version with a new pretty case. Which basically almost guarantees I am just going to get the YLoD again later on down the road. So i guess this is just a question of opinion, but here goes anyway. As I see it I have three options to be able to have a ps3 and be able to play older games, I can, one: send it in and pay the money grubbing assholes when they should cover it like microsoft did, two: I can buy a new ps3 to be assured that i wont receive the light, but then I would be forced to buy a ps2, considering I sold it when I got the ps3. My third and final option would be to try out the playstation version of the 'towel method' that was for the 360. If you dont know what it is, I will explain, but for time purposes right this moment, I will continue. If that were to work, I would love to do it, not only is my warranty already up, but I have already had it apart before just out of curiosity. My fear is that I would just mess it up more, I know I cant play it and people will argue that I will not be losing anything if something were to go wrong, but as of right now it is a hardware malfuntion and I can blame it on Sony, I would hate myself if I added to it and took some blame. Any opinions will be greatly appreciated, and anybody who has had the YLoD, and suffered through it, it would be great if you could let me know how you went about fixing it.

Troubleshooting / VII problem, game wont even start..
« on: 2010-10-28 16:56:38 »
Ok, I just installed VII on my new computer. YAY! But no, not yay. When I try to open up the game, the screen is just black. After a minute or two, a small white box appears. Nothing else. I have yet to apply any mods, other then Aali of course. But I yet to ever have a problem with that, and I didnt change any of the settings in it yet! So I am at a loss. I am confused, and honestly. Pissed. Can anyone help? The game doesn't crash or anything so theres nothing else I can tell you ]=

EDIT: Actually I can give you a few computer specs. I am running Windows 7 Pro, and I have a 512 mb ATI HD video card. I bought it a while back and don't remember exactly which model, but if you need to know I will find out.

Just a little add-in, VIII works fine on my computer except for a few minor crashes here and there, but once i restart the game all is well again..

Just wondering what everyone's feelings on FFVII: Crisis Core are?

Completely Unrelated / I need a programmers help.
« on: 2010-10-24 01:58:35 »
I know that topic is not very detailed but I am in the middle of a brain fart and cannot think.

Well i feel dumb as a rock. I have been a programmer for a few years now, and my little brothers friend just started going to school to be a programmer this year. He is working with a program called Raptor to make flowcharts. He came to me for help with a problem involving loops and I cannot think of the most efficient way to do it for the death of me.

The problem states that you need to make a flowchart with Raptor for a program that prints out 'coupons' for each months rent. So there will be twelve coupons per apartment. There are 3 apartments per building, and there are two buildings.  So first he initialized his constants and set a counter, then he set up his first loop. Inside that first loop you use the 'call module' which brings up another flowchart which is a part of this same one. and does the same thing over. the first loop is set to run 2 times, once for each building. The second is set to run 3 times, one for each apartment. Inside that second loop, he needs to create another loop, so he uses the call module again. Then inside this third loop everything is set up right and works. The problem is that for every coupon you need to output the month on that coupon. At first I said okay, all you need to do is set up a counter and everytime it runs through the loop it adds one, and you set the months to show up depending on the number of ties the loop has run through. Which makes sense. Then he made a good point. You cant set a string to equal a number. Hm. This is where my brain fart began. For this last one should he just set up a sequence structure and output everything one after the other? Or should he set up a nested decision structure? I feel as though both of these ways work, but arent the most efficient way, which as we all know. Is the greatest common goal in the world. So how could he set up a loop to print out the correct month on the coupon if you cant compare a string to a number...? Not to sound like a d*ck but I almost hope I stump some other programmer on here so I dont feel like a complete retard for not being able to think of how... Thank you in advance for any help.

Completely Unrelated / Rule clarification..
« on: 2010-10-22 22:53:36 »
Under General Discussion, the description is as follows.
"General FF/Square topics belong here, along with stuff that doesn't quite fit in elsewhere"

Now, under the new rules, the guidelines for 'General Discussion' are..
"For vague questions.  Anything pertaining to one of the Final Fantasies.  If it's not a question specific to a program or mod, it goes here."

So now the clarification should be obvious. Is General only for FF, or is it for FF along with anything Square?

I wanted to post this under the new rules, but it is locked. Then I was going to post it in General Discussion, so the mods would actually see it and fix the mistake, but that would definitely get me in trouble. I am not trying to be an asshole, or a stickler here. But I think that some organization is key. So in advance, I apologize if I anger or upset somebody.

General Discussion / FF8 no-disc
« on: 2010-10-19 07:02:28 »
I feel as though i read something to this nature before, but i do not remember where it was, or what path the discussion took.. so here goes.

Is there any way for me to install all four discs of FF8 to my computer so when i run the game, it never asks me to insert disc(#) or to switch discs while i progress through the game?

I am not looking to rip the image from my disc and mount it as a drive, i feel as though it would be easier just to switch the disc then to do that ( anyway I say that method is only for you damn pirate folks out there [argh] )

Maybe there is a way that i could possibly create four folders inside the FF directory and name them D1, D2 respectively. and have the contents of each disc in those folders. Would i then have to go and edit something so the game does not look for a disc, rather it runs   blank.blank   from   \FFVIII\D1 ?

I am not looking to make a new installer for the game, as I know that is not allowed, merely, a way around the above mentioned nuisance.

Completely Unrelated / Grammer Nazi-ification =]
« on: 2010-10-19 04:17:18 »
For some good amount of time now, I have been backing up every game, software cd, and such the day I buy it. Most of the time I just make a copy or two of the CD and place them somewhere safe where they wont be lost or damaged, and also sometimes the really important ones, I make copies, and save the image to me hdd =]

Now my question is, is that illegal? I don't believe it is, i just want to be sure.. I do own the original to every backup I have. Also I am not re-distributing the backups I make. In my eyes, if this is illegal, it shouldn't be. Because for one, I own the original, and the second and most important, I am not giving it out or selling it to anybody. I brought this question up to a friend of mine, and he got rather mad at me. We have both been programmers for a while now, and he looked at me as though I were crazy. He refused to give me his answer because, 'if I don't already know then i shouldn't be alive' What great friends I have eh?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I wasn't sure whether to post this here in general discussion, or in the off-topic one.. So once again, I do apologize.

Okay, so I am playing through Final Fantasy VIII yet again. I love this game =]

BUT ANYWHO. I am at the point on the first disc where I am in Deling City and the parade is about to begin. And once Squall and Irvine are in place, Quistis runs back to apologize, now on my way back to Caraway's mansion, something caught my eye. On the road right before you are on Caraway's property standing next to one of the guards blocking the road.. I see Watts?! Am I just insane? or did square make a mistake and set him to be a random street walker and not just a character that shows up at certain points in the game as he should be? I hope I am not just going crazy, then again I also hope square didn't make a programming mistake! Seriously, come on, I can't be the first that noticed? Us gamers who are madly in love with the FF games, as most of us who play any of them are, play these titles over and over, and are also prone to notice detail..

Ill post a screen shot.

Actually i guess i wont.. When i try to paste the screen shot into paint it shows up all black? I don't know. Nor do I have the patience to try and figure out what the cause is. But i know all of you are die hard Final Fantasy fans, and either know exactly what I am talking about, or if you care enough can go check yourselves.. Sorry to sound like an asshole there. It wasn't meant in a harsh way.

Well even if you think I am just insane and only read this and keep moving. Thanks for the time!
