General Discussion / Re: Final Fantasy IV heading to PC

Seems people found out how to mod the music for the game easily. There's a music patch to turn the music to the SNES version.

How to Install
1. Go to your "SteamApps\common\Final Fantasy IV\EXTRACTED_DATA\files\SOUND\BGM" folder.
2. Replace files. (You should probably backup old files although you can always recover them from steam server)

I wonder if this forum will include sections for FFIII, IV and XII modding in the future..

Pff, easy mode? I mean the game's already easy as pie, why would you NEED easier difficulty?

Because it's based on the DS version which ramped up the difficulty.

I had to level my characters to 80 or so just to handle the final boss.

Theathrythm is free, but only comes with two songs, you have to buy every other song.

So.. interestingly the game has two difficulty modes now.. Normal (Easy mode) and Hard (DS difficulty)

Well, just saw it on Steam. October 9th it's saying for FF13 although it can be 'pre-ordered' for a tenner at the moment.

Edit: It should also be noted that it's not a good sign when a game is visibly lagging in it's own promotional trailer.

It's the same trailer as the PS3/360 version

So I saw this on the forums at square-enix and tried it out myself.

If you bought this game when it first came out,  you can't redownload the game. When you try to, it says the download has expired after 30 days.

What the heck square...

It's nice to see that some of the mods work in the new PC version, even though some files have to be moved to the old locations to be patched.

Nice to see the FF7 Music program doesn't need to be used anymore. I found where someone did the PSX music in .ogg files that loop. Now It sounds like the PSX version. all i had to do was just over right music files.

Other than that, it's sucks that some mods won't work. Though I'm sure people will start mods on the new version and make them better. Only time will tell.

At least i can play FF7 PC without the worries that it might not work next time I load it up. Old PC version didn't want to load anymore, and when it did decided to work, none of the textures would work. :(

FF7 installs, but doesn't work at all not even with the remix patch.

This could be cause that there is no Opengl at all with the driver i'm using, and there's no update for it. >.>

I got lucky and got a driver that supports Opengl, Everything works but videos right now.

Edit:

FF7 PC run alright, i couldn't get the remix patch to work at all.

I just disabled the new start menu and now using the classic start menu.

now to do some installling.

So has anyone tried the game in Windows 8 yet?

I'm not sure if it'll work yet in Windows 8.. Minecraft doesn't work yet and this program i use crashes on the controller setup screen.

So my hopes of the game running on Windows 8 right now are very low. If no one has tried, I'll be doing so later today on my copy of windows 8.

I'm pretty sure this problem can be averted by enabling fancy_transparency in Aali's driver.

Thanks!

Troubleshooting / Text problem in FF7 with latest driver.

So i updated the text driver for FF7 PC. I dunno if it's cause of the Remix pack, but now the Text in game looks like crap. Any help with this?

Or you could ignore the above posts (since they are mostly untrue and generally unhelpful) and just enable vsync.

also check your video card settings. my vsync was disabled on the video card. If it wasn't for fraps recording, i couldn't have done as good as i did on the bike race/battle. Even 60FPS is a bit to fast. XD

Solved Problems / Re: FF8 is running slow. Problem fixed.
« on: 2011-01-25 04:00:09 »
Aali's driver

Also to note,  setting FF8.exe to windows 98/ME compatibility mode will make it run on one core automaticly.

There is a topic on this board about FF8 running slowly, but it hasn't been posted in 2 months. That's why I created this topic. (I want to follow rules ya know.)

Apparently the person who was playing FF8 and it running slowly was on a Dual Core like me.

Here's the thing, it's not video related, it's processor related. When FF8 opens on a dual core system it spreads the workload to all processors. This shouldn't be this way as FF8 was design on a single core processor. This seems to confuse the game and makes it run slowly.

All you need to do is open up task manager, click on processes and find FF8.exe or FF8.exe *32, right click on this and click set affinity, and deselect CPU 1 and make it run on CPU 0 only and enjoy. Full speed FF8 without any slow down.
