Hi guys!
After a long time learning about 3d editing/design I have decided to start doing some of them:

More soon...

As  the time of rendering and load of work on my computer is too much, I started to use a rendering farm service to have the renders in less time. As obvious, they are charging me some money for the service and unfortunately I can´t afford that so I´ve opened an account to top-up the service when needed. If you can contribute to the project any donation will be appreciate. Thanks for your support!

They look fantastic!

One thing to add: Crank up anti aliasing so you don't have discrepancy like the edges of the holes in the gold saucer also I would add ambient occlusion as much as possible to ground things like the middle podium in the 2nd pic.

Yeah, second one is still wip and I have to do all the effects and I will fix the edges of the holes at the gold saucer entrances as well. Thanks for the tips xD

Hi, try to work a bit with a dirt for your textures, it smeared a little your texture. Then the ground and stone effect lack of relief, I would add a Normal Bump. Otherwise exellent work. I would like to recover time to work :(
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: jusete on 2017-09-04 08:03:22
I did that dirt effect because I don't like to have the background too new and shiny and I think that with that effect is more accurate to the original one. About the the stone and wood floor effect, think that this is a low quality render so for the release we will have more bump effect.

Love it!

So something I can't ever unsee when I play, some of the game's field scenes seem to have originally been intended to be smaller. Like Aerith's house, with it's enormous furniture. Any intentions of correcting the giant chairs and really tall counters? lol

Amazing work! If you'd accept a tiny bit of criticism, it looks like you hand-drew the pagoda floor numerals (壱、弐、参、四、伍) but they don't look authentic, have you considered using a semi-cursive font (http://font.designers-garage.jp/ds/execute/FontSearch?searchType=1&saleType=0&category=06) instead?

I know I said it before but please consider working with Jmp434, side by side. I am sure you two together could produce wonders and eventually release a complete modification together!

Keep it up!

That scene is beautiful. But i'm not sure if it's too much on the eyes. It pops too much. Can we see it with a character on it?

Not to put you down its amazing regardless

That's a good one jmp. I love the endings of the wood. I'ts
The displacement effect or you modeled the piece to look like that??

About the release, I want to do a bunch of them first but you can take the pictures and import the fields with palmer by yourself if you want it now xD
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: jmp434 on 2017-09-21 12:52:43
Hello!
These are only textures that make the wood so, only the floor has been patterned with zbrush to give it a more user shape, but the texture remains of the texture with good bump setting etc. All my textures are working with the torrent that I have given you. To create the normal map I use "Crazy Bump" which gives me occlusion, bump, displacement and specular map. It is also possible to work the contrast etc. of the complete texture :)

Nice, jusete!

Some feedback, if you like.

I would change the photo hanging to the wall for something less photorealistic and definitely not having humans depicted in it. It does look completely out of place.

The cupboard on the right lacks depth, in my opinion, and please tell me if it is just a trick of my eyes but... isn't it too small?

Other than that, I love the brick walls, the stairs and the wooden floor the most. They are so good, in fact, that the rest doesn't almost feel on par with them, if you know what I mean... :)
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: BahamutSIN on 2017-10-11 09:14:33
Yeah that photo is too realistic and would break immersion. Maybe cartoonize it somehow? Also, the white bottles in Holu_1 at the top are too bright imo. And the purple bottle is just slightly over-saturated. They stand out too much. But otherwise great job.

Hello Jusete,

I worked with Jmp434, my job was to create the layers of his scenes to integrate them in the game with Palmer. I saw the beautiful pics you posted and I began to do the same with your maps. I actually released two of them, and here are the links to the folders that must be past in the "fields" folder :

Ok thanks, but for the moment I'm working on holu_2.  ;)

I made the layers of zz4 but I have a problem with the rocks : the characters go through ! I think I must resize them, so is it possible for you to give me a pics without the rocks ? If I have to resize the rocks, I will have blanks and I would have to remake the floor in the circled area... It's possible but it will be faster if you can give me the complete floor  ;D

Hi, exellent work, however, I find that the rock does not have a correct finish, it must work with a displacement, if you send me a link with your workflow file, I rework it correctly, a 3ds max workflow folder, if not an obj if you do not work with this one :)

Here is the link for the rock in question, I have already done a work on the coordinates of the textures, it will only have to change to enter your layers. Be careful not to triangulate too much, the shapes are seen in the rendering and it does not make good, sometimes by making a copy paste of the rock scaled you get better rendering. Trying to do what it takes to get into your layers, the cameras did not import at home. Here is a rendering of my rock.

As well as the settings made on your maps.

Hi Jusete! Keep up the good work!

Is there any percentage calculated by you (for the total fields done)
that could let us understand at which stage are you right now?

Enjoy your holiday!

It would be a huge help if anyone could search for already done BGs and gather them in that table:

Or better yet can you work with 3d versions?
I can supply a few im making if you can texture them.

Hello,

There are actually 36 screens modelised and game ready (layered and included to the game with Palmer) :
16 by Team Avalanche :

There are some screens in queue because they are modelised but I didn't create the layers yet.

Yes, you're right. I did it on the ff7.fr forum but I will correct my post.

Good, I forget it ! It seems a little different from the original but we can add it to the list. The problem with this screen is that the intro video must be redonne too !  :-D

I don't know if the faulked one can be included without redoing the train portion. It doesn't line up with the opening fmv like you said and it has clipping when you walk into the train.

I agree with Shampignon.

That background is simply not good enough yet. It is heavily incomplete and there is minimal improvement over the original. And as you all said, it doesn't match with the intro video. I'd rather take a waifu filtered background over this one.

I can give you without background or only the japanese signs if you want, you just have to ask !

Looking very nice. I love the lighting you've got going on.

My only real suggestion would be to rethink the direction of some of the wood grain. As a general rule, most furniture tends to have wood grain going whichever direction is the longest, per individual piece. So the sloped part of the stairs (https://i.imgur.com/UKuS4ds.jpg) that holds up the steps would be diagonal, the front of the counter would be horizontal, and the drawers on various units (https://i.imgur.com/GKFBHiZ.jpg) would be horizontal even if the frame around them is vertical, and the fronts and tops of the shelves behind the counter (https://i.imgur.com/F9D9PrI.jpg) would have their grain rotated 90 degrees as well. This is more realistic, and helps more clearly define the shapes of drawers. Especially useful when the vast majority of the wood in the scene is the same type and color.

I'll start by saying I think its great work, and its so awesome you're doing this!
My only gripe with it is as mentioned above, outside of that its just minor artistic stuff and 3D issues.
I've put together a quick imgur album here: https://imgur.com/a/p7aj1 (https://imgur.com/a/p7aj1)
I've noted what the issues are in particular scenes, and most of these are easy to fix honestly.

I'd like to ask if you're using bump maps or normal maps, and it seems you aren't using displacement mapping really, except in perhaps 1 scene.

1 final thing, Texture resolution, it looks asthough your texture resolution is inconsistent, some objects have stretched textures across large areas, whilst smaller objects have a lot of detail packed into small areas. You could help alleviate this by using texel density.

Texel Density may be a bit more specific to games, but for achieving a cohesive image, it still works well.
Here's a really good breakdown of Texel Density: http://leonano.com/ALTRO/pdf/Leonardo_Iezzi_Texel_Density.pdf (http://leonano.com/ALTRO/pdf/Leonardo_Iezzi_Texel_Density.pdf)

I hope I haven't offended you, I really think you're doing awesome work.
I can't wait to see this project completed.

Hi guys! Thanks for your comments. I appreciate all the criticism, that makes me improve xD. Note that I just started with 3d modelling and I'm using SketchUp (and my computer is not the best one for these purposes). I never studied 3d design so my learning curve is a bit slow. I want to do the next one's in 3ds max so hopefully the will look better xD.

Another very good map in progress !

I finished the layering of the sbwy's new versions and of elminn_1, I'll publish soon. I also modify some of the olds modelisations to make it better.

Wouldn't it be funny if you put some references about other Final Fantasy in the maps, like pictures on the wall or figures like in elminn_1 ? I imagine the ff4, 5 or 6 characters in a showcase or decoration ! :)

Do you know these pics ?

Bad news, I've had a hard drive error and I lost all my data... :'(  I need to start again so will take a while to have the field :-(
That is quite unfortunate I hope you are backing your work up somewhere.

So just out of curiosity, have you tried a recovery tool? Such as Recuva? I've had success restoring things after a hard drive failure and I believe it's still free.

There are other recovery methods for cloning a drive that's gone belly up. You might be able to get some of it back.

Hello !

I don't have much time right now to make the layers...

I'm trying especially for the moment to rework some screens that would not be perfect. I would like to modifiy some backgrounds made by jmp, but I have no news of him.

However, the new versions of the sbwy series and Kalm inn are ready, I'll publish them soon.

For the new one, you will have to wait a little  :P

ff7Maniac => Parce que c'est plus encourageant de commencer par des écrans "faciles" à modéliser. Les premiers écrans (réacteur, gare, train etc) sont des écrans assez complexes.

Jusete => I get this layer when I export with Palmer, so I guess I need a screen with the box open :

Don't you use Palmer ? I think you should to see how layers are cut and to see what I really need ;-)
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: sl1982 on 2018-06-16 01:07:17
To be honest with my previous experience dojng this stuff is you should have the files and render your own outputs if possible. Palmer shows ypu what you need for the output and then you can adjust stuff as needed for the renders. I am not sure how you guys are working your workflow. If you just get a final render it may be hard to do
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes

I'm using makou to see the layers, it's easier turn of and on the layer and save what you need than with Palmer. But for some reason, this layer is not showing in makou

Not with pre-rendered backgrounds there isn't. The game would pretty much need redone in a new engine for this to be possible.

It looks very good, but the grass could need some variation. In the middle distance it looks very repetitive. Maybe you could some muddy texture in the chocobo pen. A small lake or something where they could get something to drink (and eat) would be a great addition to the scene.

You really are doing some awesome work here!
The scene has an almost identical feeling to the original area too, which is a difficult thing to replicate.

I have a little critique, if thats ok.

I don't want to deter you in any way at all, only give constructive criticism as I did before, please let me know if its not welcome or if I'm stepping on any toes.

The grass, looks good, I like it a lot, really helps stop the area feeling so 'flat'.

I think making the area inside the chocobo pen a little more 'worn' would make sense, as they're walking around on it all day.

Regarding the roof of the house, the texture is a bit too tiling, it might be worth modelling just a few tiles yourself and placing them around to help create a bit less of a pattern, and also to make it look a bit less 'object with a texture on it'.

The silo in the back is nice, but the texture tiles a lot, and especially on the sides, it can end up looking a bit flat.

Outside of those minor things, this scene looks good, i wanted to ask if the sky is still temporary, I didn't see if it was mentioned above.

Hey! Thanks for your comments guys!. No worries Dan Tsukasa, your point of view and criticism helps me to improve myself and to see if I missed something xD. I agree with what you say about the grass inside the chocobo area, I'll try to make it shorter than the outside area. The sky is the original one, but I can change it.About the silo and roofs I'll try to do something in post production, my computer is not a NASA computer xD and the rendering time for this one is about 16 hours  :-o :-o. I'm planning to use a render farm service that will provide a massive  improve in rendering times but there is only 5$ trial. Maybe I'll open a PayPal account to receive donations and top up the service when the trial money finish. I'll test how many renders I can do with 5$ and see what I'll do xD.

Thank you, I really appreciate your support. I'll try with the 5$ trial and see how many renders I can do. It's not too expensive,  0'02$ per hour per core, so hopefully I could do a bunch of them with that money. Thanks again for all the support, I know the renders are not perfect but I'm trying to improve in every new scene and with your comments it's more easy to continue this project. :) :) ;)

I still think that you should use blender for the rendering. There is a tool for SketchUp called BlendUp  - https://sketchucation.com/blendup-premium-discount
Sadly it's not free, but blender has some real good functions one thing is filmic blender (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nYGJI0r2-0) which calculates light more natural, but more important is the denoise tool for rendering which works wonders even with a small amount of render cycles.  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gSyEpt4-60&t=2401s)
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes

I can give you some flops as well if the workload can be networked
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: jusete on 2018-07-15 08:04:54
I'm learning 3ds max in my free time so, hopefully, I'll start to work with this program soon. The point to work with SketchUp is because it's faster and easier, you don't need to be worried about uw mapping and the final result is good. I still need to learn a lot about rendering settings, materials and all that stuff in SketchUp so will be better and better. I'll try to set up vray swarm (network rendering in vray) and hopefully the rendering time and workload on my computer will decrease. By the way, I tested the render farm tool yesterday and I spent 3.75$ using 6 cores(4 from my computer + 2 from the render farm) on a 2500*2500 pixels scene without textures and with the ambient occlusion activated. The render was done in 2:30h(with my laptop usually takes 8-10h so definitely it's worth it). This is used to add and have more control on the ambient occlusion in post-production. I'll try later with all the full textures and 10 cores+ and see how long it takes and how much it spends. I'll keep you posted.

PS: what do you thing is the perfect/appropiate resolution in pixels for the game? Maybe 2500pxls is too much and we don't need that resolution...

Generally we were using a 4x increase from the original size if i remember correctly. It wasnt a hard resolution since some scenes are designed to scroll while others arent.
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: KnifeTheSky77 on 2018-07-15 22:25:45
Renders with 4k displays in mind make the most sense imo, given how they are becoming the norm.

edit: @sl1982 good point. Since not all backgrounds are the same aspect ratio, maybe target a certain PPI instead?
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: sl1982 on 2018-07-15 23:59:50
Well what was the original resolution? 640x480? If thats it then it would be a 6x increase to get 4k backgrounds. If i can get source materials i can run some renders on my spare pc. Its a 6700k so its no slouch
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: Kaldarasha on 2018-07-16 00:33:13
The source has to fit without scrolling  320x240. But that's  not the main  problem  of the images. The BGs have a very small color variety and were also made for the psx color system. This makes upscaling them so complicated. However new rendered BGs have a lot more information which results in better results when using an upscale technique, even though improvements would be minor. But I think the difference of an BG which was made for 4k or an image which was upscaled from 2k to 4k is also minor. And we shouldn't  forget that Aali's driver has also a limit. Too much high resolution textures my lead to wrong displayed textures.
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: KnifeTheSky77 on 2018-07-16 00:46:30
Do you know what the actual hard limits of Aali's driver is? Processing is definitely not an issue on my end, probably not an issue for sl1982 either. Go as high as possible would be my philosophy
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: sl1982 on 2018-07-16 01:13:27
Well worst case scenario if you target too big is you resize smaller. A form of anti aliasing if you will
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: Kaldarasha on 2018-07-16 09:39:21
The drivers maximum is 1024 MB ram, maybe  it can be set higher, but Aali didn't  recommended it and nobody has tested  it.  When the limit is reached  then some textures aren't  correctly displayed, usually  the UI  gets messed up.

This looks great man, glad to see you're still at it. I can see improvement overall, great work! Sadly I can't offer much help, I do all of my rendering either in UE4 or Marmoset and am unfamiliar with the tools you're using. Your materials looks great, but as some of mentioned, adding some diversity to the tiling will help. Such as skewed roof shingles and such. The only thing that really grabs my attention is the shingles on the house, the ones on the front don't meet up with the sides. It's a hard area to gauge since it's so small. Otherwise it looks great, the sign on the barn is just beautiful. When the FF7 scenes are completed you should definitely look into building environments in UE4, particularly if you're modeling modularly.

Hey cmh175, nice to see you around xD. I'll do something with the shingles in post production with Photoshop. The grass is now looking great and I've changed the lighting and now is more realistic. on the other hand, I've used the 5$ trial plus 4$ more to render this background so any donations will be welcome. I'll update the first post with all the finished pics and links to download them and with the link to the donation page. Thank you for all your tips, your comments and support!
PS: I'll post the finished background during this weekend when I finish the post-production xD

As promised...

farm_2
(https://i.imgur.com/Ocd5801.jpg)

I´ve changed the shingles and increase a little bit the bump and displacement effect. The grass from inside the fences is shorter than the one outside to make a grass tread effect. Some sacks with chocobo greens, mud and a puddel inside the fences as weell and some chaff inside the barn.

Hope you like it guys xD.

On the foreground, the shadow of the (not visible) tree looks strange on the grass.  Speaking of it, the grass in certain areas has colored peaks. Very visible on the grass in front of the house. The whole image is also a bit pale, maybe the light is to bright.
Nevertheless, it's a very nice rendering.
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: jusete on 2018-07-21 21:37:04
Ups, I didn't realize about the white peaks on the grass. It's because the ambient occlusion layer, easy to fix. I'll try to decrease the light a little bit as well. About the shadow f the tree, I'll apply some blur effect to make it smoother. I'll try to update it by tomorrow. Thanks for the advise Kaldarasha xD

Exellent work Jusete, I'm looking to create an archive with what I already work in 3D to send them to you, I can not work on it, you know, it takes a long time and unfortunately this time I do not have it ... At least I do not have it any more, the archive will be rather voluminous so it takes a certain time for compression. But I'm preparing you for it. :)
Give us this remake, you work better than me on 3D!

Said that, I am also very glad that you are entrusting jusete with your material. You could hardly find a better disciple and maintainer for your production!

First of all, U and Jusete and all the others do a great job!

But I find personally the Jusete Version from the stall and the outer farm nicer . It is smoother,  gladder and looks better. Textures and lightning are much better. Sorry. The recreation scene in whole have one problem! The stall and the outer farm must be done from one person! If not, it looks creepy. Everyone has another style. Your style and the style from jusete is too different. The outer farm design from jusete and your stall would be look curios in combination. And by the way, I didn't know, that u had done it before! Maybe all of u should create one thread with ALL of your creations on the first page! This should prevent the double In my opinion, each of us should build a field series alone! I have saved different pages (One is french, i cant french  ;D) from all of u and it is horrible to be up to date. Make one Thread!

I don't know, why each of u pick a single scene of the game part? Another tooks another scene from the series. That is not the way to go.  It has something like funfair. Different color schemes for the same scenery. U know the saying: "too many cooks spoil the broth". In the same scenery is it absolutely true!

All of u do a great job. But think about it. The style in the houses OR in the villages/cities must be the same or similar.

jmp434, u had created a cool reactor scenery, but never finished. That is your thing! The passion is there, in this scenery, not the farm!  ::)

Post by: jusete on 2018-08-09 05:46:13
Yeah that's what I'm trying to do. If you follow my tread, you can see that I'm trying to finish the same area ( Kalm, chocobo farm, Gaea's cliff house...) To avoid different styles. I didn't know that jmp made the barn ( I've been checking his thread and is in there so, my bad) but to be honest, I have seen that jmp started too many different areas and a lot of them aren't finished( I understand that, we have a life outside the forums and modding and sometimes you get stuck in some big backgrounds and start a new one to don't stop) and that makes difficult to choose an area. I'm going to finish the farm area to have all the backgrounds in the same style and after that I'll start with another one from kalm or gold saucer. I suggest to move jmp's thread in graphical releases to team's avalanche section and maybe edit his first post with all the backgrounds he has done so far. That will avoid this kind of mistakes in the future
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: SoulEvan on 2018-08-09 07:52:39
Your kind of styling is great. I love everything, what u have made.

I meant with the "make one thread", only ONE Thread! To have multiple threads with new recreations isn't helpful. Then u must switch between these threads to be up to date. And new designers maybe will never find all of them.  A Forum is not the best option for this. The first post can only edited by the owner or a moderator.  Maybe a list of all scenes of the game with the name on the left, under it a small thumbnail of the finished scene with the creator, homepage/forum and the download links. That would be nice. jmp434 has it in just plaintext on his page, but he is the only one who can edit it and by the way, not everyone knows his page. Let a special moderator do the publishing things. Edit the thread, add a small thumbnail, style this a bit and the designer have a little VIP secret area to post the new things quick and dirty.

Another possibility is one thread (closed) with one post and all of the finished items. Then, each new scene get his own thread with the scene name like "FF7 Scene zz2 - Author name". In the sticky thread with all the published things, each scene can be linked to his own thread! More clarity and a better overview. At the moment it is like mess. Without rules, everything will confusing.

Hello.
I have the idea to create one or more archives grouping all the screens finished and integrated into the game (from the Team Avalanche, jmp and Jusete) and thus to make a topic for that. Since I do most of the layering, it will be easy for me to edit the posts.
But for the moment, I can't because there are several screens that I want to rework before publishing them.

Hello guys

Hi guys, am I doing something wrong because I don't see elmin2_2, zz2, farm_2, fcyo, farmin, and jailin_4 links on the first post. Been checking everyday 😢

I know you all want to test the remastered screens, but you have to be a bit patient, because it's a long work to integrate them into the game. In general I modify the images posted by Jusete, mainly the lights and the colors, to get as close as possible to the original screen. After, I need to make the layers of each screen, and then test in-game, then edit when needed, then test again... Sometimes I have to do it again dozens of times to prevent any defects.

I'm also working on some screens modeled by JMP that I find too different from the originals.

Nevertheless, I still have some news to you  ;)

That's perfect, thanks a lot shampignon. Ill update the first post with the new links .
That's the thing, when two different people do the job. If anyone can tell me, what I need to slice the backgrounds. I will make it. A tutorial were also be nice.  ;D For the FF Universe  8-)

I can also give u a mirror space for the downloads.
We are 3 right now in this project, shampignon importing the backgrounds and jmp and I making the scenes. Bear in mind that we have a life outside forums and you need to be patient but everyone is wellcome to contribute to the project. If you feel that you can help importing fields, just take the pictures from here but I suggest to speak with shampignon as he is doing the imports.
About tutorials, all the info is in the Palmer app thread.

Hello,

I just finished farm. It was a long long work...

First, I retouched Jusete's image because I thought it was too blue, too cold. The original is warmer, more vivid, the grass is very green. And then I did not like the sky so I changed it. Here is the result :

Just noticed this yet but the clouds get the sunlight from a different position then the landscape does. Maybe that's why they look strange in the scene. Mirror the cloud texture should fix this.

Hi Jusete, I do not strongly agree with the other opinions on these last two map. The soil on zz1 is much too dented, it is what bring out these species of black spots. The sands, it's fine maybe your texture is too big on the ground, try to shrink it, the second big defect on both maps, is that we see a lot of the triagulation of your rocks. In small they are beautiful, but when you zoom in it is seen a lot. I redo zz6 on 3ds max to show you the rock how you can work to be realistic. I think I find your fault: p. You need one! haha
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: jusete on 2018-08-28 05:06:11
The reason to use that texture is because its similar to the one we already have, but not the same. We want to have something familiar but NEW, that's why I'm taking some artistic freedom on the backgrounds. Bear in mind that you won't zoom that much in game so for me are looking fine. If you want to loose your time redoing it it's fine, but I'll use mine anyways xD

Nice work!

I have not done everything yet. I have reworked the lights slightly and the ground on the right. As well as decrease the grain of the rendering. What I blame is not your personal touch. It's the lack of realism! You work very badly rock!
The personal touch is by no means disturbing, I surround you the problem, when using the scenes in game, the background is zoomed in 50% to reach a size of 2048 * 2048. If I zoom to this size, I very much appreciate the triangulation. The problem comes from sketchup. It does not allow UV unfolding. These are its limits.

I'm shocked... guys this is impressive.

Really huge work behind all of this and the speed you both have it's unbelievable.

One suggestion from a simple fan: in my humble opinion you both should coordinate and assign each other different "areas".
So those game areas will have a smooth feeling and the whole game will have a better consistency.

Keep rockin'!

To be honest, I preffer mine. I love the detail in yours but is too dark and the walls look weird. It´s about likes and dislikes but I preffer to have a fantasy look instead too much realistic. Anyways, as kuraudo sais, need to focus on one area to have more consistency so I´m going to finish all the materia caves to have all the zz´s fields finished. Will see what is next.

I think jmp's is smoother from a technical standpoint, and its more visually appeasing, albeit a bit too dark, I still like Jussettes more for the game. It just fits the classic feel better in my opinion. You both are incredibly talented and im working towards getting to that level myself.
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: sl1982 on 2018-08-29 01:04:02
I like both. Jmp is closer to the original. But i like some of the glowing rock of jusetes better. It is supposed to be a materia cave. So i dont know. Release both and let people decide or maybe collaborate?

I'd like to offer my opinions here, if nobody minds.

JMP's

Quote
Yours is theoretically more realistic, but its also a lot rougher, the lack of lighting makes the area look much flatter than the other render.

The texture has more detail, but it has little to no contrast because fo the lighting, its just small details everywhere, there aren't areas that sink in or extrude more than others, which would be more natural for this kind of cave, in short, the current texture is too uniform.

It is quite different from the original games too, but personally, I don't think the original games textures are all that great either, but we'll ignore that because the game is 20 years old, and we haven't seen the high resolution renders.

The fact that its all very much the same colour is also an issue here, the only thing having any influence on the tones is the lighting, and it doesn't seem to be doing much in this particular environment.

The water that runs down, you've made it a lot smoother and look more worn away, which I think adds more realism overall.

Jusettes

Quote
The texture resolution is a bit odd looking, especially at the bottom left of the image, where the walls of the cave are at a hard angle, your texture looks flat and stretched, I'm guessing this is because the wall itself is just flat, and not tessellated, you're just relying on bump or normal maps to do the depth for you.

The centerpiece rises up in a way that in itself isn't unnatural, but again its stretched and looks too flat on its edges, such as the top and the sides.

The texture here is still too 'sharp'.
This area has water erosion, suggesting that there was once a fair bit of water in here, and it wore away the cenrepiece over time, smoothing it out before creating a sort of 'rim' at the bottom.

The rim should be very smooth, as shout the areas close to it.

One final point would be that the lighting, the rock has no material, just a texture, its far too shiny for what it would be, it has no real sense of roughness, its just smooth, eventhough the rock itself doesn't look particularly smooth elsewhere.

Both of these are good pieces, with different pro's and cons, and a lot of opinion simply comes down to how well/if someone is trying to emulate the original or not. If not then outside of objective comments such as 'lighting doesn't work that way' or 'rocks can't shape this way unless X happens' everything else is largely subjective, just being down to peoples varying opinions.

This is an odd request but, could you guys perhaps share your scenes as dae files, complete with the lighting and camera setups?

I wouldn't mind a shot at this area myself in all honesty, see what I can put together in Substance Designer.

I wanted to basically show him the problems on his map, I even realized that I had created sand rather than water on the map. My texture is actually too dark. that's also what I said to myself and I should still adjust a lot to get my detail. I worked with Substance Painter (it was my test map to learn this program haha)

The work here is so amazing. When these fields are done and applied with the rest of the mods this will become an even better remake than the resident evil remake that was released on GameCube some years ago. The remake that square enix is coming out with will only break my heart with it's assassins Creed like open world, countless tacked on fetch quests, ruined kingdom hearts battle system, and dlc that will contain 50% of the plot. This forum and everyone working on this project is Final Fantasy 7's last hope. I've been a true fan of final fantasy since I first played on super Nintendo and now I'm more excited for the final release of these mods than anything square has released since final fantasy x. I feel like they have betrayed us all and the artists here are finally giving me a reason to smile again 😁. You guys are amazing. I am forever grateful

Looks great jusete but just one question. Is there a reason you dont use a multiple of the original image size? If i remember correctly palmer requires it so all your scenes have to be resized.
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: jusete on 2018-08-30 19:52:49
Oh, I used for this one 4000x4000. As this one is a square I supposed that was fine.
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: sl1982 on 2018-08-30 20:00:46
Yeah in practice for this one it is fine. Its just a simple resize. For zz1 it wasnt a square so it distorted the image slightly. In reality nobody would notice that one. Just a bit of friendly advice when it comes to rendering things. Take a look at what the original scene is doing. In this case the glow is a seperate layer that the game changes. So the second render where everything glows wasnt really needed. As it stands the scene wont have the pulsating glow unless someone has figured out the palette swap problem.

Anyways here is the scene cut up for the game.

If you ever get around to Aeris' house is anybody going to fix the megahugegiant furniture downstairs? The countertops are face high, the handles on the hutch are over people's heads, it drives me nuts lol
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes

It is unlikely since everyone is generally keeping the same scale when they make their renders.

Hi merry troupe!

Here is the finished rendering, I am not satisfied with my texture on the underside of buildings so I would do it again.

But you can already have a very big overview of what gives this scene :)

Here is the finished render

Wow, you work fast!Impressive!

I like this, my main critique would be the texture scaling, considering where the camera is, I can see the grain and threads on the giant flags/murals.
If you compare the scale of one of those threads against the window, then I'd say any single thread is going to be roughly as thick as a persons arm, thats way too thick, you'd only notice such details if you were looking at it close up.

From a distance you shouldn't be able to see any of those details, the murals would look pretty flat and lacking in details (save for any actual damage).

Much the same with the upper wall texture, you can see the paint flakes and the unevenness of the wall from this far away, which suggests that all the flakes and marks must be very large to see from the other side of the street.

If I had to add anything, I'd say perhaps a little bit of variation in the door colours and window colours, perhaps some insides to some of those open windows, and an fire escape staircase on the side of the building that has the arrow, these things weren't in the original game, and nobody questioned it, but logically speaking they'd add some good detailing to the scene.

Thats honestly all I can comment on here, i think everything else looks fine, its a work in progress.

I also didn't notice in the original game, but the gratings are actually huge, you'd easily lose a foot down there if it were real life.

I love seeing the work come together here, its exciting!

Please let me know if my input isn't welcome, I don't want to discourage anyone from continuing on.

I have already asked and they can not do it, and I publish here because my thread is no longer followed / =

I understand what you mean, however for windows, inside I can not do what I want, it is a walkmesh, more lights are in the layers and does not allow to add elements, unfortunately. The only place where I could add would be between the buildings and it would serve no purpose because in the background, they will be invisible, and in front, the hollow part of the walkmesh, add details will be difficult. For the grain, I agree on the flags they are a little too thick, however the wall we can see the details of the foreground later I do not perceive :) And slatted have been thought for them big feet of the original 3D models haha

Thanks man.  ;D No Problem.

In Comparison with the old scenes I noticed some missing details. The lightning effects in the original screens are much more intensive as in the new ones.

For Example:

Scene frmin, fcyo

The light in the original scene is brighter. The version from jmp434 has nearly no lightning effects. Your version has, but is too little. It is interesting, because i haven't noticed it, if I don't have created the page. This is not criticism and u all do a great work.

Scene  elmin2_2

The recolored version from Shampignon has a curios wall color. A little bit green. The original hasn't.

Scene games_1

The light at the top is completely missing  :o ;D I mean the disco lights.

PS: Your zz6 image link is broken on the first page.

Hey, the lights are set up to have a consistent environment. With the new materials, that amount of light will be too much for the scene. About games_1, inside not finished yet but I think that grimmy took the old field spots and some machines as well. The imported one is ok. Ill reupload zz6, I don't know what happened. Thanks for your advices! xD

Edit:

zz6 picture is reuploaded now. In my first post you have all my finished fields and the links for those that are ready for the game.

I'll make zz6, and also frcyo and frmin, be patient 😉

For the light effects, it's a special layer, it's not necessary To have them in the modelised image. In general, I share the final screen with lights effects when it's needed.

Hey there!

I completed the scenes entries in my database. All 729 Scenes have an entry.

Changes:

The standard view will show u the finished scenes! If u type a field scene name into the search box, it will give u the following information:

Exists the scene ?
Is anybody working on the scene ?
If not, u get the info too!

For example: type "junonr1" or "junpb_1" or "zz6" and search.

If u type in a wrong field name, u get an overview of all scenes. I haven't added all preview images yet. Too many :D But i do my best.  8-)

Let me think.

We have actual two modders and one slice and colors man. The rest is sleeping for months or years.

Me is just the overview page creator. I am not a modder!

3 people should recreate ~700 scenes ? In 30 Years maybe. The project need more volunteers! If u know people, who can create these scenes, tell them the project exists! Hoping alone is not enough! Do your best by yourself to finish the dream!  8)

Excellent work as usual jusete. Just a little tip. For things like the rocks above it works really great if you are able to render just those on a blank image and then use them to create a cutout instead of trying to do it in photoshop. It shouldnt take that long to render as it doesnt even have to be textured.

I have sliced the whole thing. Download on the overview page.

But the entry of the cave is not as dark as on your preview image. If u send me an updated prev image, i replace the image. The textures on the top are looking blurred.

PS: I couldn't test the crystal itself! I haven't a test save for this...

Hi Jusete,

u have forgotten the right door in the frmin scene. Just for the information. It's always a good idea before u begin a remodel to see the different layers with the palmer program. Then, u don't forget something. The little dirty details are mostly there.  8)

For the people who slicing your scenes it is easier to have the door alone without the rest. The game handle it the same. The doors are single layers.

I noticed the problem in the frcyo scene. I have done it, but it was horrible. My creation is not perfect!

The door has a little edge, that the player can hide himself.

See it here:

https://www.german-syslinux-blog.de/download/Final-Fantasy-VII-HD-Field-Scenes/Field-Problems/frcyo1_DOOR.png

The original layers have cut of the edge.  I tried it too, but it doesn't fit with the rest. Don't know why. So I don't give a ... of it and don't wasted my time to the little detail. I know that Shampignon wanted to slice it. I did it myself to get experience. And I think, he will do it better.

It is also difficult to resize the scene to exact the same dimensions. The resizing isn't the problem, but it must fit with the old layers.  Your frcyo scene has not an integer % value.

Example:

Your mainfiles have the dimensions: 7000x3937px

It's more than 8 times bigger as the original files.

The original files have the dimension: 576x448px.

I used the multiplicand 8 to get 4608x3584px

It is more than 4K resolution. I think, it's big enough. U can make it so big u want, but keep the integer value. U used a multiplicand of ~12,15

Better were a multiplicand  of exactly 12 => 6912x5376px

You do a great job! That are just things i noticed by editing your scenes. Don't know what Shampignon think about it. He had sliced a lot. But the most public scenes, who are available to download have not these mechanics like the barn.  I am very excited about the coming release from Shampignon. I hope he had also headache with the scene :D Don't take me serious!

I forgot about the right door but I think that door is not in use in game, it's always opened. About the door at the farm, maybe you need more practice xD, it's not as simple as take the same slice from Palmer and cut in the new field. Sometimes you need to cut new things and edit a bit the position of the field to match with the original one. I'll take a closer look and see if I can import it. Thanks for the feedback mate.

Hello

We are starting to be a real team, it's good ! Thanks to the new workers !

I've been working on other personnal projects this week so I didn't work much on slicing. I've tested the zz's maps and they are good, good job to Sl1982. I've just seen a little default on zz1, the light effect is cut by a layer, so we have a stairway effect. I decreased the intensity of the light so that it does not reach the edge of this layer. I also changed the order of two layers for a softer effect. I think it's better now :

zz1 : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1QlVwopA9HIPnuKQ_LX0nhduWMQjQLEeT (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1QlVwopA9HIPnuKQ_LX0nhduWMQjQLEeT)

I also worked on zz6 and I was about to be crazy ! I managed to keep the light of the materia as Jusete done, but I had to keep the original layers of the water effect. You can test it :

zz6 : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1keJX-GAoZu827V9w07AMBGKMHET6D0h3 (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1keJX-GAoZu827V9w07AMBGKMHET6D0h3)

If someone think he can do better, I'll say good luck !

I"ll work on the farm's screens soon, but as I already did this with the jmp's version, I know it will be a long work...

I dont suppose that the scenes are similar enough that you can use the one set to slice up the other?

I love the zz6 scene! Nice effects.

The zz1 packet is a little bit to big. Nearly 8K Resolution :D ? What the hell  ;D. I remember of the beginning who mayo master, anoha and all the others make 2K Resolution Models. But 8K is a bit high. 25 MB for each sliced pic, in whole 100MB for ONE scene. Think about the size. Your HDD must always load the scene, before the game can show u the result. I think, 4K is more than enough. Haven't test your zz1.

Can u all others please add also high-res pictures from the scenes ? I need for each version a picture. I cannot make a picture from the sliced scenes and have not your project files to do this.

Well we could make smaller resolution later anytime. Isn't downscaling also a way to reduce noise in a render?

Yes. Consider it a form of free anti-aliasing

I don't think it's necessarily unwise to render massive masters. They can always be downscaled for distribution, but that prevents the need to re-render if, in a few years, 8K monitors become the norm or something.
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: ff7maniac on 2018-09-12 22:41:42
i agree, but we must also think about the person who plays ff7 on pc without having a computer or a gaming monitor etc. I personally do it on pc for improvements models, mods etc but i am a playstation gamer i have the original. i have the same monitor for since years and i will keep it until his death and after i go to pay for a new one. why spend if it works very well. i still buy my refurbished computer and I use it for normal use. it's not all the ff7 players that can be used to spend 2000 $ or more ^^
Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: Covarr on 2018-09-12 23:11:00
ff7maniac, you misunderstood me. I'm saying it's good to make large originals, and then shrink them to distribute them. Ideally people could download the appropriate pack for how big their monitor is.

But it's still gonna be a long time before we have enough renders to be worth worrying about this.

Post by: SoulEvan on 2018-09-13 08:49:48
I understand the point of large renderings. The argument from KnifeTheSky77 is a little bit odd.

The whole game has a rendered size of round about 640x480 +-100px at the highest ingame scenes. U can play the game on an 8K TV, but the stretched old scenes looking very very very bad on 8K. 4K is at the moment not the standard. And as a normal desktop monitor, the most users (gamers) still have a normal 1920x1080px resolution. 4K and 8K are not desktop PC resolutions. It's for TV's like u said and maybe the pc nerds!

Why i say that ?

What do u think, how long it takes to recreate all the missing scenes in HD ?

Let me think:
We have 2 modders who create scenes. I don't count the slicers!

If each modder creates 10 scenes in a year, we need 32 years to finish it at the moment.

What do u think, which resolution is in 32 years the standard ?

Where we should draw the limit ? 4K ? 8K ? 16K? 32K?

I haven't said, don't make high-res project renders! I said, keep the ingame renders real and don't overact it.

"My personal thoughts about the HD scenes"

The problem is, all the people who doing mods here at the team avalanche forums doing all their own thing. I see no teamwork here! That's my impression! That is the first really big problem here! We have so much lonely wolfs, who doing their job. I read sometimes from different people: "good teamwork"  and I just wondered. What does they mean ? Creating alone the whole scenes and put sometimes a rendered high-res picture into the thread ?  :o

Another thing: It's not organized. Moders or artist lose themselves in perfection... Begun scenes will be never finished, because a line of darkness is drawed on the scene. Don't take it serious  ;D I am overacting it! Perfection is not bad, but u will never finish the scenes if u act like that. Who cares the pipe who is 1mm shifted in the scene ? Or too large doors ? I don't believe the user noticed it, if he have not the comparison!

I read before months for the first time the jmp434 thread who searched for new people to help him. My personal experience is, he isn't looking for help. I have personal no problem with jmp434 or anyone else, but how u tell the people the mistakes or something bad creations is horrible. I hope for u, u have not a position in a company, where u teach newcomers. I hope it! Really! It's discourage.

The biggest thing is, that u haven't the sensitiveness. U can criticize what ever u want, but than also explain it and help the newcomers! My impression was, u search only for experienced moders and that's it. Other lonely wolfs!    I have not the experience. I am new to this and i have much to learn! I know it! I am not an idiot. If I nailed it, than why u have created the tutorial ? Masters don't need a tutorial dude! And masters don't fall from the sky.

I feel lost here. I have created the overview page to be a part of a team, to learn something, and yes, I love the game too. But my feeling is, we haven't a team!

All of u doing a great job, but i don't wonder, why u haven't more moders.  ::) That's my personal impression of the forums. U must don't share my opinion, of course.

Greetings.

The point I was making is that these file sizes aren't that prohibitively large given today's tech.

A marginally extra amount of render time _now_ is a small price to pay for having the highest quality source material -- you might as well go all the way and shrink later if you feel like it imo.

Title: Re: Jusete´s field scenes
Post by: jmp434 on 2018-09-13 18:24:20
Hello, I will start with a simple question! Apart from developing criticisms what are you trying to do just right? You speak without even looking for evidence to what you tell. If I stopped on the road, it's simply because I work 15 hours a day, the little free time that I have, I devoted it to modeling. I do it for pleasure. This is not my job! So obviously I do several things because I'm doing it for pleasure and not for her to take my head! After thirty rendering without getting to go into the layers of the game it enerves me and I spend something else to free my neurons a little!
Then you say that I did not really want to recruit people .... I have a dozen post on several forums always remain unanswered. So as I said before criticizing, try to really know what it is. Subsequently your comments, are simply a source of demotivation for anyone who reads you because you have never done anything at this level and you talk about this or that while the work you have done on the cuts is not just not good ... So your critics start a little upset ... The last little thing that I have to say is that yes I have to start my first scene with an old computer. Not powerful enough for this job. I changed during and during this change. I lost 3/4 of my work. So yes there is work to complete. The rest of the avalanche team has left all this work because of the obvious lack of people ready to really help. For my part I lack of time and I would miss even more soon being given that my wife must give birth in the days to come .... So yes I have other priority. So it would be nice to try to help rather than criticize all the time. The last scene I produced, I spent only 4 hours of my time. So obviously there are corrections to make.

Yours truly.

Hello guys,
I'm also working on fields but for FF8. SoulEvan is disappointed because he hopes to learn how to work as a team on a big project. The graphical modders here are mostly inexperienced in a game or graphical project. We learn as we do. We can't tell when we finish a field because we do as we like, depending on the mood. There is no deadline, no budget, no quality criteria. That is why it is impossible to have a structured process on such a big project as Avalanche. That is the reality.
SoulEvan, sorry but on the team management side  you have to learn by yourself, and not here unfortunately.

About the size of the render, maybe it is not clear for everyone but as you double the size of a render you multiply by almost 4 the time to render. Ex: if it takes 10 min to render a 640x480 scene, it will take  40 min for 1280x960,  and 24h to render 7680x5760(8K).
You say it is to easily reuse them later when the norm is 8k. I think the quality standards in the future will be beyond what we produce today. So don't tire yourself with gigantic render, the quality will be outdated in 5 years.

From my small experience in rendering fields, do small renders (max 2048×2048) with an overall consistency in colors, contrast, shadows. Add some eye catcher details, big enough to be seen on 2048x2048 or even smaller renders.

Post here only small renders , it is very annoying to wait 10s for the picture to show. If the users want 8k scenes tell them to use an image upscaler ( waifu?).

Here is something you guys could do to make things a little more manageable:

1. Make a trello board -- it's free https://trello.com/
2. Have columns for TODO, In-Progress and Completed

This way, you guys won't do the same scenes by accident/have a good grasp of what is already finished... all in one place.

> 24h to render 7680x5760(8K)
I have a machine that could do the final renders pretty quickly...

Sorry about my writing. I didn't know, that only moders are allowed to make suggestions or criticize something.  ::)

So, why i have written it?

jmp434, i wrote u my feelings about my impressions. What do u think, what a newcomer think, if u tell them, he did a very very very bad job at his first try? That i mean! And u still don't get it. It was a really bad job (that's not the point), i know, but it was my first try! The most people had thrown the towel and thought: " Okay, that was really fun, but better i leave it now without a comment and come never back again!" That is the reason why i wrote my impressions about it. You are demotivating new people, they are willed to help.

Have u after my first try looked at a new version from me ? U haven't and it seems, u have not the interests to do that.

U talk permanent of "quality" and "how u do something" and only people who have done whole scenes are allowed to say something or not and such things. That is curious.

A simple question to u:"How have u begun ?"

What are u delivering with your messages ? Only people with experience are welcome. That is your message! Maybe u don't notice it, because u are fall in love by yourself. Remember, i read the most threads and posts in the avalanche forum. I tell u just the things, that i have thought the whole time by reading it.

Maybe u understand it now, or not. Don't know. But the threads, the posts are talking a really clear message to new people who are thinking about to join. And that is why i have written it, that u don't search for new people.

And why i should sugar-code it ? That doesn't change anything. I think, we are all grown. I have noticed your problem with criticism in old threads. All people who make suggestions and don't sugar-code u at first are bad people. U don't believe me ? Read your first posts! I mean, i can still write a sugar-code wall at first, if u feel better then, and then give a suggestion, but on the other side i think, who needs that ?

Maybe u understand it now. I have tried to explain it. The language barrier is another thing we are fighting against. Ok, so on.

Greetings.

Ideally the following would be done:
 - Have a centralized place is used for all source
 - This would include assets used to create scenes.
 - Decide upon 8x or 16x for the scaling and use it for all scenes.
 - Create a todo list as suggested above.

You can use something simple like google drive (like we used to) and then people can access the files, Use the primitive resources to make their scenes quicker, do renders, You know have working flow for the project that will help you attract more help too, Everyone can then work together on the same data set using the same assets so things look consistent thru the game, The artists to focus on art and the people offering to render can also have access this way they can render the scenes marked done.People can also test the fields to be sure the walk meshes are still working correct and weird pockets are discovered or do stuff like this guy is suggesting. http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=16748.msg259379#msg259379

Did you think to create a poster and posting, with permission in video games store? it could attract people no? or maybe in your city there are video games studios that people would like to give their free time once they go in their house, me in my city there is a ubisoft

Could I perhaps make a suggestion.

I don't know how people would be best organising themselves, across multiple countries, this works fine for people when they have a full time job doing the thing, but these people are doing it in whatever spare time they can find, so it can't really be too rigid honestly.

With the regular event of stopping a scene whilst waiting for inspiration, or quitting a scene entirely, it might be a good idea to upload the actual scene files, the meshes and cameras somewhere, this way if someone else can continue, someone else can continue.

What makes most of these mods is really texturing, mesh wise its all the same really, but the texturing and lighting is what kicks it up a notch.
Additionally, lighting especially is, one of my personal shortcomings, I'm terrible at it, and I'm a 3D artist by profession, I've worked on many games but I can't light for strawberries, but if someone else uploads a scene with complete lighting, I can retexture it and try to helpout.

For me its mainly the lighting putting me off, for others it might be lining up the objects, it'll be different for different people, but having a base can really help get things moving I think.

So a shared repository for the actual scenes would be great IMHO.

Hi guys! Just post here to say that I'm alive xD. I came back from holidays last week and after a few days training and watching videos I'm ready to start zz8 with 3ds max. Hopefully it won't take too long. xD

Thanks! I went home for one week. Family, friends, good food...xD. Definitely I had a very good time.
Here is a first look of zz8:

Still need to edit the ambient occlusion and render in a bigger resolution but it´s close to the final result.

Thats pretty damn awesome man.
Could you post a wireframe of that too? I'd love to see how much is texture compared to how much is actual mesh.

The! I love so much! I appreciate the fact that you went on 3ds max. may be just a small flaw easily correctable ... Your soil ends pretty badly in the upper left corner. We see that your platform is square. But otherwise, I have nothing to say, it is sublime :)

Personally prefer it without it.

Refraction is good but the effect is too strong. The strength of refraction depends on the thickness of the glass. Currently it looks like an aquarium.

Is there a link for the "fcyo" textures? It seems to be missing from the first post. I'm also not able to locate the playground area remade textures. Thanks.

Link for the playground area is on first post (games_1). Fcyo is not imported yet. Don't know if shampignon is working on it, if not I'll try to do it by next week.

Jusete, there are some blank areas in the zz8 map.

If you don't want to resolve this problem by yourself, you can send me your png files and I'll look at this.
