Diablo 2
« on: 2008-05-15 14:00:22 »
Hey guys, I know this is an FF forum and all, but I was just wondering, has anyone else had any problems running Diablo 2 on Vista?
If so how (if you did) did you solve the problem?

I keep getting a message saying please make sure the play disc is inserted and click retry.

I DO have the play disc installed, but still the same message.
I have tried compatibility mode, and disabled desktop composition, but still nothing....

ANy help would be grwatly appreciated. :-)

I don't have this problem, but have you tried to install the latest patch on blizzard?  Sorry I can't offer any more help.:-(

Yeah, I've tried the patch :-(
It just keeps on telling me to insert the disc, even although it's already in the drive.  I know it's strange, but no other games have this problem, it only happens with Diablo 2, even Diablo 1 works fine! :?

have you check your Data paths in regedit?  don't know about vista too much, but maybe the registry 'DiabloIICD' has the incorrect path.  In XP for me its in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE/Blizzard Entertainment\Diablo II and it's set to a root directory for a disc drive

It's Diablo2 Classic or Expansion? I had problems with Expansion which takes forever to load in fullscreen (I don't play in fullscreen so no biggie :P). The latest patch for Starcraft removed the need for having a CD in drive, so they might do that for D2 too :)

Oh, for the solution -  if it's Expansion, use D2Loader (that is, if you don't play on BNet).

It's classic D2 I'm having trouble with, I don't even have the expansion unfortunately.  I'll try the reg-edit thing when I get home from college, hopefully that'll work.
If it doesn't, then I'll try and find another patch, one that negates the need for a cd.

Thanks for the help guys :-)

I'd play D2 if it didn't give me an extreme case of Carpel Tunnel.
