[Tutorial] Covarr's New FF7Music Tutorial

Ok so I just tried the game without FF7Music, and even that only plays the Prelude!
And on unmodified FF7...

So my problem isn't FF7Music related, but now I'm even more stumped...

Any ideas would be appreciated, this is driving me crazy.

First suggestion is to reinstall the game. I can't remember if music is normally accessed from disc or hard drive on a minimal install, but I strongly suggest full install.

Emulate Ramps has never worked, as far as I know, but you may try it with different plugins (PSF/MP3/OGG), and have different results. I haven't really looked into it.

LOL  i'm sorry  my first language isn't english , and i'm not good with commas and  these things so give me some slack OK ? 
 and about the end of my post i was going to leave my specs after the comma but it didn't look good so i put it down and forgot to replace the comma with a fullstop so don't be hard on me  thanks .

The problem would be your music, it most likely has silence in the files before the music starts, edit them in Audacity.

Sorry it took me so long to answer; I haven't been online much these past few days. You didn't say whether your problem was with MP3s or PSFs, so for the purposes of this response I'm going to assume you're using MP3s. I'm also going to assume you're using out_wave.dll as the tutorial suggests.

Firstly, play your MP3s any other MP3 player to make sure there's no silence at the start of the files. If there is, you'll have to edit it out using a program such as Audacity. I'm not experienced with Audacity, so I'm not going to explain how to do this, but you can probably find a decent tutorial with a quick Google search.

If your songs don't have silence in them, or if the delay you're hearing exceeds the length of this silence, here are some steps you can follow to minimize this problem.

Open FF7Music and click Configure.



In the Setup tab, make sure your input plugin is set to in_mad.dll, and click Configure.



In the Buffer tab, click on the Size dropdown menu and choose Small. The dropdown menu may be a bit finicky, so if you can't get it to work right, try pressing the S key on your keyboard. Click Apply.



Now, click the bottom Configure button.



Make sure that Prebuffer is set to 0 ms, and click OK.



Click Save and Exit and try running the game again. Hopefully, you won't have any more delay before songs start.

i have a problem with ff7music it keeps erroring on saving and every time i go into setup its completely blank here is the error log

Are you running FF7Music in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2? Pretty sure that should fix it, tell me if it doesn't.

nope it didnt plus i can not find final fantasy seven in the registry and ive tried uninstalling ff7 and reinstalling nothing

i reinstalled ff7 to c:\ff7 rather then default location ff music still errors but keeps it settings i be testing to see if it works in game but still no ff7 in the registry so at mo can not copy the movie files over to the hard drive hopefully someone can help me cause i think thats also why open gl driver doesn't work in full screen either.

It should be in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\
Though I'm not sure why you need to look in the registry, and I'm DEFINITELY not sure why it wouldn't be there. You're not using the Ultima Edition or something, are you?

Also, can you post the contents of your ff7music.ini for me to look at?

no im using my original disks as i had to delete my backup iso's for space a while ago, not its not there i only need my registry so i coud copy the movies over to the hard drive thats all -i might have a buggy install of windows ill double check everything on it tommow  ,

sleeptime=10"ff 7 music still erroring but works in game but not muting the midi so i switched over to creative midi so i could mute it with my sound card settings for info im running windows 7 x64 home premium my specs are amd x2 5050e, nvidia gforce 210 graphics a sound blaster x-fi titanium  sound card and 4 gig of ram if that helps

Hmm, that looks just fine, assuming that's where the input and output plugins actually are.

Are you using Aali's custom graphics driver? You need to edit the included ini file to mute the midi.

Based on you're ini, it's apparent you downloaded my bundle, but I have a sneaking suspicion that you are asking for help without having followed the tutorial thoroughly. Double check that you have followed EVERY step on page one of this thread, and tell me if you're still having problems.

ok i have followed the tutorial which is a good one i might add the only one i couldn't do was the comparability for ff7.exe cause every time i fired up by pressing the run ff7 button on ff7 music it just kept minimizing to the desktop took it off and it ran ok.

at the time i was testing i wasn't using the open gl driver which now i am same issue about muting the midi and the errors that come up in ff7 music but the main thing is its working now i can live with muting the midi and the errors as its working thanks for the help tho its been most appreciated.
i found it in the regestry in the end so if your running windows 7 x64 and can not find look in the section HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node

I've tried almost everything, and I'm still running into a minor (yet annoying problem). 50% of the time, ff7music will run perfectly when I start playing the game. However, it lags behind on the other 50%. Also, if it starts out running like it should, it eventually falls behind. The most noticeable is the fanfare after battles, then Field music becomes slow to load as well. I have the lessdebug patch installed, I've ran nearly every combination of compatibility modes for ff7.exe and ff7music, and I've tinkered around with all the settings. I have an Acer Aspire 5515 with a 1.6 GHz processor and an ATI Radeon X1200 chipset. I'm beginning to think my hardware isn't up to par, since the slow loading only occurs when using the Phoenix and Team Avalanche patches. The game itself runs perfectly, but maybe it's too much for my slow CPU to run ff7music along with ff7 patched?

Sorry for the long post, but this has been a problem for me for a long time, and nothing I've found on here has helped so far.

It probably is just that your machine is too slow, especially if it only happens with other patches/mods.

However, you could try this and see if it helps.

Alright, I've finally figured it out. I went to Config on the MAD plugin and, along with selecting "small" in the buffer tab, I set the Priority to Highest Priority in the General tab. So to anyone with a slower CPU, try this if you have problems with songs loading on time. I confirmed that having it set to Highest Priority is, indeed, the fix to my problem, as I have tested it with both Highest and Normal settings. The only slowdown in the game that I've noticed is literally half a second at most, and it's only apparent when the victory fanfare plays.
