General Discussion / Seph 3D: "I have(or had) a dream"
« on: 2001-08-16 12:59:00 »
LOL!!

I'm sorry you had that dream Alhexx, and I'm sorry that I was partially to blame for it...

But that would have been FREAKY if that had REALLY happened to me or anyone else I know.

seph3d: I made those models!
Seph3D: No! I made those models!
Me: Good god! I made those models, and I can god damn prove it too by using models I HAVEN'T POSTED YET!

FTTDK: My models were recently plagerized by a member of a team doing a 3D FF7 remake like thing. But here's where it gets interesting: Someone calling themselves "sephiroth3d" got onto their message board and tried to claim that he did the model of Sephiroth that their member had stole. (The member eventually confessed.) Well, Dark-Raver got to one of my sites, then emailed me about it. Confused, I asked for clairifcation. After going to their forums, I left a message (as "Sephiroth 3D") saying that I was the REAL Sephiroth 3D and I could prove it by posting a never-seen before pict that I would make for the forum. Forunatly, it didn't come to that. I was contacting Dark-Raver via email, and Alhexx made a post confirming that I was the real deal.

That about sums it up.

Again, sorry for influencing your dreams Alhexx.

*Smiles weakly* Actually, I've been having problems just entering the Nimbelheim Inn in 2k.

So far, the best solution is to simply run a dual win98/win2k boot (playing FF7 on 98), or use WinXP. (Which I hear works with FF7, but I have yet to confirm this.)

2K is a LOT more stable that 98, however, it less compatible (Both software and hardware wise) with most things. Forunatly, the hardware problems are almost non-existant now-a-days. But sadly, the software problems are still lingering.

This is how to get FF7 running in 2000 with an OpenGL card such as a GeForce2.

You need 5 things for this to work:

#1) Final Fantasy 7's Install Disk.

#2) Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (Available Via  http://www.microsoft.com" TARGET=_blank>Microsoft . This file is at most, 105 megs. It is suggested to get the smaller patch, unless you have multiple computers. The small patch requires a connection to the internet and can be as small as few megs.)

#3) FF7 Nvidia Patch. TNT or Riva patch will work.

#4) DirectX 8 (Again, available Via  http://www.microsoft.com/directx" TARGET=_blank>Microsoft  Be sure to download the 2000 version.)

#5) The latest NVidia Referance Drivers (Available Via  http://www.nvidia.com" TARGET=_blank>Nvidia . Be sure to download the 2000 drivers.

#6) Application Compatibility Toolkit (Also available Via  http://www.microsoft.com" TARGET=_blank>Microsoft . Download only if nessicary.)

Step 1: Install the Nvidia Drivers. When it asks if you want to reboot, say "No".

Step 2: Install DirectX 8. When this is complete, you wil have no choice but to reboot. Do so.

Step 3: Install Win2k's Service Pack 2. Please follow the instructions for whichever version you downloaded. You will have to reboot after this too.

Step 4: From the Start Menu, click run, then type "regsvr32 %systemroot%apppatchslayerui.dll" (No quotes) and press OK.

Step 5: Install Final Fantasy 7, and the DirectShow drivers.

Step 6: Configure FF7 with the Nvidia button unchecked. Choose Direct3D Hardware Acceleration.

You should now pass the 8-bit Paletted Textures requirement.

Attempt to play FF7. If you still have problems, please continue:

Step 7: Install the Application Compatibility Toolkit.

Step 8: Open QfixApp from the Start Menu in the Application Compatibility Toolkit folder. Choose ff7.exe as the file to apply the fixes.

Step 9: Click Win2000 as the layer, and click run.

If FF7 still does not work, try the other settings. Beyond that, I cannot help.

Good luck!

Not bad at all!

What software did you use for the final render? It looks like 3DSMax.

Now I've got to get to work extracting, building and lighting Sephiroth, cause then we can have a fully rendered battle or something... 'Course... I use LW, and Maya so it could be interesting. I hate MAX!

Also... Why is that image of Seifer in Milkshape?

General Discussion / FFX OST FULL VERSION!

I've test them, done some research, and here's what I have to say:

The human ear can only hear a maximum of 128 bits. That does not mean the sound card does. The sound card however, ends up sending it out as best it can, but you still hear it in 128bit despite you playing it at 320bits.

Personally, I don't see why a file has to be 150% bigger to get the same quality sound. (Quality in terms of what we end up hearing, not what is being played through your speakers.) And since I'm on a 33.6 modem running at less than 28.8, I've looked into this. (I'd be on cable or DSL, but we aren't supported.) I don't want to spend time downloading files bigger than they need to be.

However, if you go above 44.1kHz, then that's different! There is a loud and crystal clear distinction between 44.1kHz and 48kHz.

Audio Converter (http://www.audconv.com/) rips tracks directly to MP3.

But when you do it, only make it 128bit. Beyond that, your wasting HD space. The human ear can only hear a MAXIMUM of 128bit.

General Discussion / Final Fantasy - The Movie
« on: 2001-08-23 14:01:00 »
IMO, the movie was VERY good, and I want it on DVD! I'd take a 35mm print if I could get my hands on one.

If they DO make another FF movie, it'd be a first for the FF series as a whole if they continued where they left off in the first film. That's simply not done!

However, as for any films after this: They should have simply done what I wanted them to do in the first place, and make a 2-3 film trilogy of FF7.

But considering the length of the movie, it's be cheaper for them to simply make a single 3 hour film based on FF8.

I think most of the FF fans don't like it because it isn't like the games at all. They can't see it as something that's seperate from the games, and thus, expect the same amount of stuff from the film that they would get with a game.

I'm willing to bet that the people who gave it bad reviews probably didn't play the games, and those who did play the games, had the problem I previously mentioned.

Just a thought...

Trilinear: Yeah. I was hoping that it wouldn't end that way, but I'm also glad that it did. It gave it a stronger ending from my perspective.

Actually, getting paid to watch movies and give an opinon of it would be a great job!

I've seen it. I saw it the day it came out here in the US. Sadly, it's been bombing here.  :(

It'd be a near understatement to say the FF Movie is one of the best films you'll ever see. I won't run any spoilers, but I will say this:
People have been complaining that there "isn't any FF related parts to the story". I'm sorry. I can count at least 3 referances to the 3 PSX games. (One per game.) Only one of those referances isn't story-dependant.

The visuals are spectacular. I'm highly trained at spotting CGI work, but there are shots in that film where I couldn't tell if it was real or CG. (I was chanting "It's CG, not real... It's CG, not real..."   )

I am deeply saddened that this film is doing so poorly here. It could and probably will destory any chance of seeing another FF movie. However, films like Shrek (Also a wonderful film) are doing extremly well. In fact Shrek already has a sequel in the making. (The sequel was ordered after the first two weeks inthe theaters.)

To conclude, this is a wonderful film, with wonderful characters, and a wonderful storyline, but it will never achive the full glory that it truly deserves. And even if there IS another film, it will follow the FF suit, and have nothing to do with what comes before it.

Here's what I think I can officially tell you about the remake:

1) The "rumor" that it is a prequel is not true, nor is it false. No definate story has been put to paper, so it's simply best to call it a remake or even better, a fan-fiction.

2) We are thinking about several possibilties for the direction the story will take. Something we all seem to agree on is that Sephiroth will be the main focus of the story, possibly the main character.

3) Most or all of the characters fron FF7 (Cloud, Tifa, Barret, ect.) will make an appearance, but this is just an idea we are throwing around.

4) Since no story has been set, we are currently working on breaking the FF7 coding and we are also doing research that may end up in the remake.

I'm afraid I've already said too much, but I thought you all might want to know some info about the remake.

General Discussion / BleemCAST!
« on: 2001-04-25 11:52:00 »
Speaking of ePSXe...

Has anyone heard anything about an update or why the site isn't working? I need them to fix a problem so I can finished FF9.

My "clones" of the CDs don't run at speed on a real PSX, and there isn't a PS2 boot-disk or anything yet...

I would like Bleemcast it if you paid about $5-$20 bucks so you could simply burn the info & the game to a CD yourself. But my guess is that they have to alter the PSX data, so Bleemcast games probablly won't work in a real PSX.

General Discussion / FF7 in Win2000
« on: 2001-03-25 03:05:00 »
Ok... Maybe this has been touched on before, but here goes.

I have an Anniliator 2 running the TNT/Riva patch version of FF7 on Win2k. It loads up fine, but when I change rooms (leave to another room) and it normally fades, the game instead freezes, and I have to Alt-F4 out of the game, which closes it. However, when I reboot into Win98, it plays perfectly.

Any ideas how to fix this or get around in? I really want to play in Win2k.

Also... Is there a Debug room for the PC version? If so, how do I enter it?

That's probably why I've been mainly working on my fan-fiction site more and more. (Don't think I've updated my 3D site in almost a year!

Srethron: When cHiBiMaRuKo said Reeve, I think he meant Rufus. We see Rufus's last moments, but Reeve is fine. He took shelter with in Kalm or the Slums or something while Cait was with the group.

On the FF7 Petition: That guy went WAY too far. All 7 needs is more Cinematics, enhanced in-game graphics, and a fully orchastrated soundtrack using MP3 or some variation of pre-recorded music.

On the FF9 PC Petition: Hell yeah! FF9 on PC! With mine, we're at 2037!

The sad part is, I just checked Squaresoft.com (Which hasn't been updated since 12/18/00 BTW) and in the FAQ it says, and I quote "Square of Japan has not made any current plans to develop a PC port of Final Fantasy IX." Don't that just suck. Any FF9PC petition has to be sent to Square of Japan!  :x

I'm sorry, but I'm one of the people who play games for the graphics. However, if the story sucks, I don't play it very much after I beat it.

To me, FF8 looked spectacular. To this day, (I haven't played FF9, so I'm not counting it. Call me a PC buff.) it is by far the best looking FF game yet.

However... The storyline was WAY too straight forwards, and you guys are right: Ultimacia didn't really feel like the bad guy. Plus their didn't seem to be much time to run around and have fun until just before the final battle with Ultimica.

IMO, FF7's story was twisted, devious, and unexpected. IE: The perfect story. LOTS of replay value, and lots of time just to enjoy the rich, wonderful world Square made for us. The story is only slightly better that 6, which is also high on my FF Fav list. (7, 6, 8. Haven't played 2, 3, 4, or 5 all the way through yet. And nobody ever counts the Gameboy FFs.)

Bottom line: FF7's story is WAY better than FF8, but FF8 dominates FF7 in graphics.
