hi everyone!i've ask to obesebear to post this topic.i put a texture on the redXIII from TA,i made some parts on texture,retouch parts and imported again.So with you permission can i post my work here to downlaod?

The hair seems a bit to bright (over sharpened is the best way i can describe it) face looks great though

I think the poly count would need to be raised to make this look a lot better. It honestly looks mushy and it's a little hard on the eyes. I personally thought the brighter coat was a better look.

If you could raise the fur definition to a brighter tone, I think it would soften the overall look and be more presentable. I double taked now and I see the look the texture is going for, but I still think it would be too dark for in game.

I went into photoshop for about 5 min, I wanted to give you a quick idea to what I meant about brighter coat and softening those dark lines.

The top left photo of red XIII shows his bracers have a lot less shine and they actually looks like bracers instead of fiery bracers

a tip for the texture - dont concern yourself with the texture of the fur. look at the original concept art, and try to match the red/yellow orange around the body. once that's dont its quite easy to make it more 'fur'-like

The newer one is much better!  I think there can probably be some tweaks to reduce the noise even more.  But I think it's damn good.

I wouldn't use that noisy fur texture. That sort of detail won't work well at the small sizes it'll actually be displayed at, nor with a lot of motion or in the context of FF7's rather smooth, well-blended textures. Graphical upgrades need to enhance aesthetics by identifying what works well in the original design and furthering those elements, not trying to crowbar in an extremely different design style.

I disagree.  I think the fur texture fits pretty well.  IIRC the texture Millenia made for cloud was pretty overly detailed as well.  I posted pictures of it after I imported it, and bland textures definitely don't look good in my opinion.


But, Timu and SL are in charge of Team Avalanche.  So I guess if they say it's not good enough to be included in the project that's that. 


Though I'd still use it.

I agree, the model the way it looks now is great to me and id definitely use it. And just solid colors alone would just be too plain for me, so I like that he tweaked it the way he did

Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying there should be no fur texture. However that kind of detail should be done on top of the plain color layer. Also the noisy fur texture isnt ideal. It looks procedurally generated onto the model, and doesnt have any flow, like fur should.

I would say keep it simple, give his body a bit more definition and shape. (Remember he's a lean creature.  You can accomplish this with a little bit of polygon tweaking.)  Also, I like the texture on the most recent model.  Do you think you would be able skin him with a nice smooth orange/red color set as in the original concept art? You could reduce the opacity on the texture, but the style of the game makes me think some nice smooth colors would look a bit better. Great work so far! I'm a poor hand with models and textures myself, so you're already doing well in my book.

I did not realize the model is the model of the Avalanche team and for the texture I just apllied the texture on the model (texture made ​​by Rikuko from deviantart) I just did some little things such as such as bracelets, scar ...and import again into the game.so i don't if i can make best.

Ahhh. Well that makes things a bit clearer. I must have missed that before. I'm not a fair hand, as I said before, but this makes me want to try doing some model/texture work of my own.

In my opinion it is too bright right now, in the video he looks out of place beside the cloud model and contrasts too bright against the battle backgrounds yet as soon as he uses regen and the colour effect kicks in he blends in to the environment much more seamlessly. just my 2 cents.

I'd just like to say that this looks really awesome.  I've always imagined that RedXIII looks well.. brighter Red as well.  I don't think it's too bright at all after watching that Youtube video, just makes him look more fierce, I like that.

I would also use this as well if it was released.

I have noticed a minor problem.  I just got to the part where you get to Costa Del Sol for the first time after crossing the ocean.  For some reason, the part when the kids are playing ball with Red, and you can kick the ball at him, he is invisible there.  You can't even see him.  I dunno if that's something with my settings, but he's just not there for some reason.  I've played with some mods before and gotten to that part, and he was there, so I dunno.

Looks like it simply didn't install. ULGP is having issues installing models properly, but a fix should be coming soon. I don't know if it's associated with this, but it seems possible.

Do you know how to manually install the model?

Yes. What I always do when I want to install any files to a .lgp is:

- Open the .lgp file with LGP tools;
- Then go to the folder with the modded files (eg. new RedXIII field by kela51),  select all the contents I want to add, and drag them all at once to the place I opened with the LGP tools.
- Voilá. Though the most normal way for this is to use the LGP tools to extract all the all files from the lgp file, copy-paste there what you want to add, and then compact all the files into a .lgp file once again.  But I prefer my way.

You could also just place the files in the direct folder. Char files go in char, battle files in battle, and field in field. Change settings in FFVII config to direct read of files.

i think the problem is not on your FF7 Game ..
maybe on your graphic driver . not supported of DirectX .
previously did that so well for me ..

I have a Tip for you ;)
try to retexture the RedXII model with Kimera ..
maybe it will work :)

another bootleg issue first and formost you didn't add the tex file in the char.lgp and secondly the field map files are ethier not there or currupted. tip of advice when testing out a model for battle or field dont just add it to the char.lgp or battle.lgp asap. always put the files in the direct/battle or direct/char to test it. also when adding files to i recomend using this instead of the bootleg installer http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8641.0 (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8641.0) it may sseem old way of doing it but it works better then luskey tool or the bootleg.

Lol I don't use bootleg to install anything, I've only used it once. I open the .lgp file with lgp tools and then drag there the files I want to add. Always did it this way and always worked and it works for the battle model of Red XIII. As for the txt file you mentioned I did't understood what txt file you're talking about but I did add every file in this mod. Never used the 'direct' folder but I will try it out right now.
Is it just copying - paste the files there? O.o

Not "txt," "TEX," file, as in the texture file the char models use. Without them, the model will show up invisible, all white, or perhaps just crash like you are experiencing. If you look at your file structure for a given char model, pre-adding it into your charLGP file, and view the folder with details, the file types should be in the order of HRC (skeleton info) RSD mixed with .p files, .TEX files, and finally all of your .A (animation files)

ProtoX was suggesting you forgot to copy the TEX file for this model into your charLGP file, either that or it somehow got corrupted/overwritten by something else/etc.

I've also heard a lot of people on here saying that "lgp tools" often corrupt files when encoding/decoing, and instead recommend aali's lgp/unlgp tool that you can find in the link provided by Proto.

I dumped the files using lgp/unlgp tool, copied the files I wanted to add, and when I tried to encode it said something like 'The volume of a file was altered externally and thus the opened file is no longer valid'. It was in portuguese but I guess I translated right. So much only because a field model lol. xD
I mean I wish it would be as simple as I did for the battle model. O.O
Just drag and that's it, just like I always did for everything I added to .lgp files til now. :/

Your best bet at this point, just for your own sanity, is maybe to TRY a clean charLGP, and a fresh files from the Red XIII model (grabbed from the thread). Knowing that the charLGP works as is, since its unaltered, and trying to just add those new Red XIII files using the lgp/unlgp tools, and nothing else, see if it will work then. If it does, something else already in your charLGP may be creating issues for you.

If you can at least eliminate the possibility that the Red XIII files from the thread (not an installer mind you) are working in a new charLGP, you can start to figure out whats really going wrong. At this point, with all the encoding and decoding you've done, its very possible your current char file is just broken.

Ok this is a little odd so I will try to explain it as easy as I can lol...
As you know with the char.lgp I had I opened it with lgp tools, drag&drop the files I wanted to add, and the game crashed. Then I tried with lgp/unlgp tools, dumped the files, copied what I wanted to add,  and then an error occurs when I tried to encode back.
Now, I tried with the original/default char.lgp file. If I drag&drop the game still crashes when it tries to load Red XIII. BUT if I use the lgp/unlgp tools, this time it allows me to encode back, and this modded Red XIII is loaded thus the game does not crash. O.O
To make this short, yes this only seems to work only if I use lgp/unlgp tools, and yes only with the original char.lgp. BUT the reason I guess it works only with the original char-lgp, is because I'm using a mod where all the NPC's and characters are modded. Meaning, that if I add this new Red XIII somehow it conflicts with the one already modded. Thus the crashes.
At least that's what I think. xD Got my point?

So what seems to be happening, since you are using a combination of perhaps, the PRP red XIII model and this new red XIII model, there is a conflict?

Let's say you copy the all npc mod files into your charLGP file first. Then you copy these new red XIII files on top of that. If you have the folder open when you paste the NEW red XIII files in, they should be highlighted initially, so you can see where they are in the folder since they are so many files already. While they are still highlighted, check to see if any files in between these new files were not overwritten, as they may be causing a conflict. Does that make sense?

Basically I'd try to match all the files already in the charLGP for red XIII specifically from the npc mod files, with just the new red XIII files from this mod. Make sure its a 1 to 1 match (excluding .A files(animation files) as often not all of those are found in these mod files) and make sure those files are actually all getting overwritten so you don't have 2 of each of those files. Beyond this, not sure what else the conflict could be. Hopefully that made sense and helps somewhat.

DLPB is a community member, and he created the UMI, or Unified Model Installer. By running it, you can pick and choose from just about all the working NPC and character models available as separate downloads found in these threads, including I believe, the red XIII model you are having trouble with, but I might be wrong about that. I think that's because of the lack of support for NPOT Textures, you can check this in your App.log if it says you cant support NPOT Textures then all texture files in your game that are not 1024x1024 , 512 x 512 , 256 x 256 ..so on.. will not work and will appear white in game and in kimera.  So before resizing your tex file,I suggest to check your app.log first.

Well its there "INFO: No NPOT texture support" you should follow yufie's suggestion regarding resizing the texture file and see if it works.

Try to resize the texture like whitERaven say ..
All you have to do is to convert the texture to bmp image ..
How to convert ??? Use image2tex to convert your texture
to bmp .. then resize it to any image editor ..

I don't understand something. Why bother unpacking and repacking the char or the battle lgp files in order to mod characters? All you have to do is copy and paste the files into the direct-battle or direct-field folder, set the path to direct in ffvii config, and voila. The textures come up without the hassle of unpacking and repacking files.

Yeah, I do it with the direct folder, and it works very well. Don't have to unpack-repack always with ulgp.

yep.. direct folder method works fine, it's also better to use it for testing purposes, a lot easier and faster than unpacking lgps, not sure about this but I think I read somewhere that direct folder method might slow down performance thus its advisable for faster computers.. I repeat I'm not certain about this, I'm currently searching for the post which says that..

Plus if you read the config file for Aali's driver it says "These options are mostly useful to modders and should not be enabled during normal play" dont know why, guess Aali would know..

Always played with direct_mode method, and never felt any slowdown, on my pc based on a very old core2Duo E8500, so... I think it's fine, anyway

FF7 PC is really an old game, thus for modern computers I think it'll run fine using direct method if there's a slow down in performance because of any mods I think its not that significant.. TA's Bombing mission mod which is really high res and detailed might be an exception I'm guessing that one will demand for faster computers..

Its bad for performance basically. LGPs are much faster and with the way the game is designed (load alot of data from disk in big batches and keep it in memory for a relatively short time) its just not going to run well on low end rigs if a bunch of mods start using direct mode. Direct mode is meant for testing only and if we keep it that way we wont ever see any of the potential issues it could cause.

That doesn't mean we have to stick to the LGP format forever, it would be technically possible to implement a complete replacement. As with all complete replacements though thats a massive task and its probably not going to happen anytime soon.

You must used the Aali's lgp unlgp if not check protoX link or also the UMI by DLPB.

Here to clarify some things for you.

-FF7 mods encounter problems sometimes due to incompatible computer so a post of your specs might be a good.

-for the app log, its a file found on your ff7 directory, after running ff7, open this a file and post the contents here. It will be helpful to identify what errors you might be encountering while playing the game.

-Screenshots will also be helpful to identify your problem.

So if you want help, your cooperation will be appreciated.
Also read the earlier posts, There have been known problems before with this red textures on some computers, so try reading the solutions provided before it might help. ;D

for some reason my app log don't appear in my ff7 directory and idk why and i tried taking screen shots but it wont let me i tried proto x files and umi like u said and its still the same it don't show red xiii on field or in battle at all its like hes not even there at all and the other things didn't help either red xiii mod is the only thing I'm having trouble with

hmm.. it says you have a broken LGP, so you may start by not using LGP tools as stated in the app.log,

have you tried installing the mod thru direct method? with direct method you wont need to recompile battle LGP, just copy the files for Red on the correct folder in the Direct folder in your ff7 directory, also make sure to enable direct method in the ff7 config,

You must use a legitimate version of FF7: either the 3 CD-ROM version or the 2012 ReRelease download version.
The Ultima version is not supported.

If you're just installing the Red XIII model, there is no reason for a modified flevel.lgp.

I have not seen or known of other redXIII model on par or better than this one. ( Aside from ripped models)

I have been using this mod before, basing on my experience this mod has no general fault/issues that may cause errors, so I'm inclined to believe that your problems are caused by either bad computer compatibility or user error while installing.

You said you tried everything, so have you tried installing via direct method? With this we can rule out the possibility of error in recompiling.

Or are you using a legitimate version of FF7 and not the Ultima like Pitbrat said above?
