Releases / Re: [FF7PC-98/Steam] New Threat Mod (v1.1)

Do you have an eta on when 1.2 will be out looking forward to hacking at it.

Yeah I tried soo many strats its unheard of like seriously omega knows me by name at this point. I have tried and the amount of more tries just makes me cry. Omega is just that annoying for me personally I just want to strangle the damn guy. Breaking the damage limit is definitely more casual and I honestly only did it once or twice on omega just to for the hell of it and that got me nowhere lol.

3
Sega pretty much summed it all up in a bow for what I could have said in response lol. But yes this fight is one hell of a knockout and definitely gets worse the longer it draws out. I had fun in getting my arse kicked and that was the beauty of the hardcore mod. Omega is indeed the most hardcore fight I have ever exp. ps. The defense ignoring move doe whoosh.

4
Oh believe me I got plenty items to do something against this guy but even with a party will all mystiles and 3 final attack materias this guy is a no no for a 9999hp party. He is rly annoying since he is always smacking me for max hp.

5
I was curious about the tonfa tifa weapon, are those changes part of a mod as a whole or currently not implemented in any major mod? I think it would be neat to try something out like that is all.

I have tackled everything in this mod except sephiroth and jenova. I can say that the mod takes know how grit and quite a bit of luck. All the fights I ran into had a strategy or peculiar method to coming out on top. You have to weigh the benefit of healing now or later and in most cases its not always one way or the other. The mako reactor was a thrill to go through when first tackling the mod. I quickly grasped the cost benefit of using my bolt plume to kill a formation to not take any hits and receive a bolt plume in return all the while getting hp pots back as well. I didn't gain a bolt plume but I did not lose one either and also came out with some healing potential for later on. This is a recurring theme for the majority of the mod you have to play smart and really weigh your choices. I personally did not enjoy the replacements for the master materias though as by the time you can get these materia they don't appear to have any practical use for me at the stage in the game your at when you get them. The materia would have been incredibly useful playing through the mod mid way point. The materia doesn't do anything to really help you in the final encounters such as the weapons fights including omega which I will touch up on more here in a minute. Now for jenova and sephirtoh the master materia replacements don't bring anything either. Don't get me wrong the ideas are good but I feel are just poorly implemented do to the point at which you obtain them they bring no practical use because by the time you get to this point in the game the only fights you have left are fights where this materia can't one hit kill them or even banish them. The omega weapon fight is honestly from what I can tell a rng fest from hell. Max stats don't do anything for you when you tackle this beast as with a party of 9999hp limit will get utter owned and quite thoroughly might I add. Omega has many party wide sweep attacks that are bound to hit at least one person or sometimes even your whole team. Your tank also can't stand a chance against him as even with back row + sadness+ dragon force+ barrier + Ziedrich + even Shield status can't save them from some of his attacks which ignore all defense boosts that are possible in the game. This creates a problem though the fight deviates from being creative and yields itself to are you lucky enough to dish out the most damage possibly in the least amount of time for you to kill him. alienating the tank role which seemed to be a very prominent and important tactic to hold onto and use throughout the mod and dismiss and throw out the window for this fight is disappointing. With KOTR dealing a butt ton of damage and omnislash respectively along with other limits you had to put something in there to protect omega from getting owned. So I understand the invincible mode that omega employs when getting hit with too much damage too fast. This act though turns the whole fight into a can you survive just long enough for you to hit him again? I would say its a no even with 3 final attack materias and all kinds of materia set ups the fight yields to nothing but are you lucky enough? I can understand if the fight was a very skill and very know how of the games mechanics but its not its all up to rng and what the boss uses because at the end of the day your tank will not survive long enough for you to really come out in the end unless you get there based off rng. I would know this though and speak through experience as I attempted this fight well over 200 times. With traditional methods I never came close to when I just used 4 hero drinks on cloud used his omnislash + mime through the whole fight getting to the green omega and hitting him 3 times before I died. Enough rambling though the mod is a very enjoyable experience and you have to be on your toes the whole way through hence hardcore. Except that omega hes just a u mad bro? ps. save yourself the trouble and make sure to play on break hp limit or your going to basically be crying about half way through when things just start killing your tank for one hit most of the time.

I would love to see the summons with updated graphics or more refined ones.

Gameplay / Re: FF8 Steam and Addons
« on: 2014-08-03 06:38:49 »
In Steam version, you have to do three additional things:
1. Copy files battle.fl, battle.fi & battle.fs from FINAL FANTASY VIII\Data\lang-en\ to the folder above: FINAL FANTASY VIII\Data\
2. Do everything what's in hardcore's readme.
3. Copy files again to FINAL FANTASY VIII\Data\lang-en\ (overwrite).
This is a message straight from colly himself about getting this to work with ff8 steam. Though I have been unlucky as with a fresh install and only using this method get an error preventing from the game starting. Can't remember the error but will make an update when I attempt this again which will be soon.

I am confused wouldn't saving Cid's model over red xii cause some kind of in game error later on? How would Cid be affected by a change like that? When the game goes looking for the files are the names going to be different or the same?

I can't say for sure for others but I had this exact issue yesterday after not loading the program for awhile. The boot-loader would load and then the black box shows and poof gone. Try to uninstall the game and then re-install as this fixed the issue for me. Nothing else I can provide but that. By all means though if someone knows what causes this I'd love to know for future reference and a easier fix.

Yeah the Hp limits make this game even further more hardcore than I could of ever imagined. The tips for ap farming I thank you very much this will definitely speed things up. Good thing I use the save anywhere mod for this hardcore mod which I just started using. I reinstalled just to get that mod option it makes things so much easier in terms of not just randomly dying and relying on a fixed save point. I did not know that about vincent at all that is going to be friggin sweet. Guess I will bump red out of my party for a bit and get vincent in there for that lovely glitch. Before I decided to progress the story to the invasion of midgar I was at the sunken gelinka and holy crap are the mobs there a pain to deal with. I tried fighting the hades summon boss but yeah he was a little too much for me to handle so I forwent even trying and got everything else and booked it out of there. I remember being source items I could acquire there so its good that those are still there for me to get. Are there any other source items I can farm from monsters or are those stats the only ones I can artificially improve? I am afraid to hear that about good ol sephy sounds like I am in a world of hurt. I really want to get more added effect materia so I can try and get away from ribbon as much as possible.

I am at the northren crater now to grind some ap and just man are the mobs there practically boss fights or what? I like the strat you used and one thing worth mentioning is that I should of used the hp break option because in this mod I get one hit koed way too damn much. I can have my tank in the back with sadness starting off with barrier/mbarrier and still die and this is before I can choose to defend. The mod has a very unforgiving nature that is for sure. Took me awhile to pull off the fight with hojo and yeah even grinding in northern crater I got have to pretty much wear the best armor and not skimp on that area for better ap gain or else. I got the weapon fights, seph, one materia cave boss, hades summon boss, and jenova don't think I missed anything. There is also the battle arena as well thats going to be fun..... heh. Also something else to not I seem to be really lacking in the physical damage department the whole way through this mod I must of did something wrong......

I appreciate this lengthy response :) I did manage to beat him though with just turtling down the whole way through and letting yuffie lay way him to pieces. I actually watched your videos to get a good feel for the fights in this mod and did look up some general knowledge of the changes implemented by this mod as well. I had all the info there in front of me I just could not translate that into a victory for myself. I usually ran into the issues of not having the right protection on the right people but I managed to pull it out of my ass near the end. I updated my last post with the victory try I love you Yuffie!!! But again sega thank you for responding and picking my my strategy out I had quite a bit of flaws now that I look back at it.

I am willing to help out with testing the new bootleg and am sure to document every detail I can. Not very program savvy so testing is what I could try out for ya. Can I have two different versions of bootleg on my computer? different locations of course along with different ff7 install locations just curious.  YEah my bad saw this message before just derped it is all really but yeah I'll just send that pm you can delete this if you want.

Alright well first off I think this post might have been better in the tifa bootleg area. I only say because you might get a faster response from alyza or vgr. Things people need to know to help you is screenshots of all setting that you used. You can make an account with imgur which is free and very simple to use so that we can see those screenshots. You will also need to let people know what guide you used to accomplish the install. Screenshots of the problem your having are also helpful along with even a video if need be. You also should post pc specs along with whether you ran all programs under admin rights (ran as admin). What is the directory you installed the game under? Make sure you do not have steam in the c drive or where ever you have the system OS because that always complicates mods. If I left anything out left me know hopefully I didn't. Hope someone else can get back with you soon. Just make sure you have more information in your posts to really get the ball rolling on troubleshooting. Cheers  :)

That all sounds like a massive pile of mumbo jumbo to me and way too much work for replacing clouds model for sephiroths. But I applaud you in trying keep on keepin on man good luck hope it works out and welcome to the forums brah.

I can just wait for the 2.0 one though hope to see it soon otherwise its another ff7 hardcore run for me.

This is my attempt at fighting Hojo with this hardcore mod. I feel like my levels are appropriate for the area. I am very salty about mystile in the video lol so I b*tch about the armor quite a bit. I feel that ribbon most certainly has its place but I sure do hate mystile. I am curious what to do really I have I believe everything at my disposal to beat Hojo and have seen all the strats used but I can't seem to replicate any of it. Is there a way to set up the person using cover in this fight to deal more than 5k damage at the least with my setup? I tired using the missing score bonus that it gets but I am not sure if that really did much.

I finally actually beat the guy like holy shit!! I honestly didn't follow the videos you posted sega chief it just didn't really work for me at all. I seemed to just get rick rolled every time but I went on a limb here with yuffie. I noticed she was dealing far more damage than any of my characters at this point in the game. I went with a full purple slot with w-item just in case. Yuffie saved my arse still dumbfounded that worked.

Would this patch work with the steam version though? Thats the kicker and the deciding factor I will leave an update after I uninstall FF 8 and reinstall fresh I will apply this mod and post my findings. Thank you for the link.

I installed FF8 steam fresh. I then installed roses and wine and after that replaced a few sound files with my own custom ogg looping ones. From there I used the nvidia 1.2 patch for FF8. Before I used this patch I tried to run the game from the FF8.exe file within the main directory but to no avail. Instead of failed load shaders it simply did not want to boot the game. After the patch was installed the same issue occurred with me unable to boot the game. I can boot the game from the steam user interface but what this does I don't know. The music mod works fine but whats the determining factor to finding out if the hardcore mod from colly even works? The flying beetles dealt 7 damage to me and I picked the omega diffculty sounds a little weak. Does booting the game from the steam interface cease this mod to work or does it only work if booted up from the actual .exe in the main directory? If the case is the later then would replacing the .exe with another make a difference? What could be causing such an issue from pretty much a fresh install of FF8 curious...... I know I ask a lot of questions heh
