General Discussion / FFVII Piano Collections
« on: 2003-12-03 16:02:06 »
Odd, it appears to have been released today. Quite sudden, I hadn't heard anything about it.

Anyway, here are some links:
Square-Enix Shop (Japanese)
Advent Children (First english site I found with info)

I'm getting hold of a copy as I write this (:P), so I'll give you a quick review when I'm done.

I'm quite shocked. This must've been released to build the hype for FFVII:AC. Did anyone else know about this? FF's Piano Collections are great, I'm so glad they've finally released one for FFVII!

Update: Well, I've given it a listen, it's great! Makes me feel very nostalgic, I haven't listened to any Final Fantasy music in ages. Although I'm not sure if it's any better than the other Piano Collections, it's hard to say. It sticks fairly close to the originals most of the time, unlike the FFVIII PC where the arrangements were pretty crazy. Not completely though, songs like Fighting and JENOVA have really interesting arrangements.

Gets the thumbs up from me. :D

FAQs and Tutorials / Older rules
« on: 2002-11-22 18:05:22 »
Bloody hell, these newbies are getting on my nerves.

I've decided to create a thread with a list of rules for all newbies.  Please contribute your own ideas, I know I've missed a bunch out.

To begin, here's a quote from the Registration Agreement Terms, incase any of you have forgotten.

Quote
While the administrators and moderators of this forum will attempt to remove or edit any generally objectionable material as quickly as possible, it is impossible to review every message. Therefore you acknowledge that all posts made to these forums express the views and opinions of the author and not the administrators, moderators or webmaster (except for posts by these people) and hence will not be held liable.

You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed). The IP address of all posts is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit. As a user you agree to any information you have entered above being stored in a database. While this information will not be disclosed to any third party without your consent the webmaster, administrator and moderators cannot be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to the data being compromised.
  • Don't make consecutive posts, just edit your most recent one if you have something new to say, unless someone else has made a new post in the same thread since then.
  • Please try to use good spelling and grammer.  Don't run round the house looking for that old, dusty dictionary you've never used if there's a word too difficult to spell, just try and spell as well as you can. It wouldn't hurt to read over your post before you hit submit now would it?
  • Try to stay at least remotely on-topic. Even though unrelated topics are allowed, people still come here to find discussions on FF-related engineering and might become disappointed if Completely Unrelated is the only active forum. Do not post unrelated/nonsense topics just to because you're bored or have nothing else to do, these forums are not a playground.
  • Do not abuse the poll feature. Don't create polls just because you can, be sure there's a real need before starting one.
  • When making polls, try to give more that two options as a reply if possible, to allow the widest possible range of opinions to be voiced. This way more people will be able to participate in your poll, and it will hopefully produce an overall better discussion.
  • Try to understand what people are trying to say if they have a different opinion to you, or are trying to give you some friendly advice.  Shouting back at them really doesn't help at all, you just get less respect and chances are your opinions will be ignored in the future.
  • NEVER write posts in block capitals. Writing in block capitals is interpreted as shouting, which most people find annoying. Be aware of this when using it for emphasis. Single words or, if necessary, short sentences might be warranted at times, but writing entire posts in capitals is the most newbie-ish thing you can do.
  • Don't resurrect old topics. When people stop posting in a topic, it's usually a sign that everything of value has been said. Thus, if nobody's posted in a topic for more than a week or two, consider it dead and don't post in it (unless you have an important follow-up or question exactly on-topic, and the topic is still recent). If you post just a comment on something somebody said ... chances are no-one will care because it's been a while since everything was posted.
  • And conversely, don't topic spam. Creating 5 new topics a day is probably over the top unless you genuinely have 5 completely unrelated questions that need answering and there's no recent threads you could ask them in.
  • See that Search button at the top of the page? Consider giving that a go ... we don't mind too much if people ask questions that've come up before (especially since for things like graphics drivers, the situation changes monthly as new releases come out...), but for others, a five minute search on old topics might get you all the answers and more that you need.
  • Smilies have a place in a message board, but too many can be annoying. If the amount of smileys you post is more than 1/5 of your word count, you may consider cutting some of them.
  • Post counts are simply used to show how much a member participates in discussion. "Spaming" the board (repeatedly posting messages without any content) to raise your post count could get you reset (Your post count goes to zero.)
  • If somebody posts artwork asking for advice don't just post "It's great" or "It sucks". Always tell them something they could do to improve it, which is much more helpful. Constructive critics please.
  • Everyone interprets things differently than others depending on their culture, life experiences, and many other factors. If somebody posts a message that could be considered insulting or offensive to you, don't immediately flame them.
  • Don't insult people about anything unless you have a good reason to. Report to an administrator or a moderator if someone has insulted and/or threatened you.
  • Keep avatars roughly to the 6kb, 60x60 limit.  Also try to make sure they're not offensive.
  • When starting a new thread, use an informing title so the reader knows what the subject is, as opposed to say "Something for anyone whos interested."
  • No linking to/discussion of/advertising of illegal downloads, including FFVII pirated edition.
  • [/list:u]
Oh, and if you need an avatar or image host, mirex has kindly supplied
webspace.
Nori is also offering to host avatars if you contact her.  Friendly chaps. :D

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Is it time?
« on: 2001-08-10 13:17:00 »
Ohh, this is rare. A post form eerrrr in the Tech forum!
Anyway,  I was thinking of having a go at learning something techy. I've been thinking of it for a while. And I was wondering if I could have you help? I was thinking about learning things about Hex first, but I have no idea how hard these things get. Which would be simple one to start with?
Oh yeah, I also have no idea where to start. Are there any free websites that could teach me the basics of a language?
Thanks.

General Discussion / Need a little help please!
« on: 2001-07-26 12:59:00 »
Hello!!!
It's the holidays, I'm not giong anywhere, I get up at 6:30 to do my paper-round, AND I HAVE NOTHING TO DO!!! So I decided to try emulating FF9, but it didnt work. I used an old post called 'Help needed emulating FF9' or something and I used Sir Canealot's stuff to set up ePSXe. But I cant start the game. I can run my NTSC bios, but on the PAL game. Do you reckon thats the problem? Cos the Bios is NTSC and the game's PAL? Anyway when I run the game it just goes really busy but the screen stays black. I fiddled around loads with the plugins for videos and stuff making them really fast and simple or really slow with good graphics and stuff, but nothing happens. Ive got:

Pentium 2
233MHz
ATI Rage 2
32 MB RAM
Win 98
ummmm...thats it.

Ohhh, Ive got an idea. Maybe I should try closing WindowBlinds. Well I'll try that, but in the mean time does anyone know what I can do?

Soemthing else, I cant spend the holidays emulating FF9. So does anyone know of anything else  can do? Have you ever heard of  http://www.elastomania.com" TARGET=_blank>ElastoMania ? Its a great game, you should try it out. If you like it email me and I'll send you the full version  . Anyway, bye.

General Discussion / Questions about FF9
« on: 2001-05-13 18:16:00 »
WARNING: spoilers....maybe....but you know you want to read it......

hello. i have a few wee questions about ff9. i have loads while i play it, but i always forget them when i come online. anyway, Dagger. what exactly does her ability 'Odin's Sword' do? it says it attacks with eidolon Odin but it doesnt seem to do anything. also, her trance. it switches to Eidolon from Summon, but what does it do? does it just make the Eidolon stronger? hhmmmm, anymore? oh yeah, the friendly ghosts. if you give them all what they want the last one'll say "you can fight the round guy now", refering to Ozma. and if youve already killed him itll say something like "what!? youve alerady killed him?". but does it actually make any diference when you fight Ozma about whether youve done the quest or not? im about to go and fight Kuja to end the game, but im doing all the side quests first. can anyone help? tell me if you need any help on the chocobo or mognet central things cos ive done them. goodbye!

General Discussion / Final Fairy Tales
« on: 2001-03-01 22:02:00 »
I really want this to be a good topic. I thought we could write our own story using images from  http://smilecwm.tripod.com/" TARGET=_blank>http://smilecwm.tripod.com/   and we could all join in! I'll start with some FF6 characters.....

Once upon a time, young http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/gau/laugh.gif" border=0> was enjoying himself with his friend http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/celes/laugh.gif" border=0>. They were having so much fun! Though they soon got bored of sitting there laughing at nothing, and decided to go on a journey........
(This is where you come in and make the next post with the characters and story).
