Why couldn't you extract the videos and edit the registry editor to play the movies from somewhere on your hard drive?

I have to agree, from what I've played of both, I prefer XII over X. I think the series started declining after VI, maybe VII.

I decided to change this post into a compilation of reviews. Just cause I can.

Main Series:
I: played and finished; loved it but the story was awkward at times
II: played and finished; liked it and liked the leveling system, but not one of my favorites
III: never played
IV: played and finished; loved it but it was pretty difficult for me
IV Interlude: never played; apparently it takes place between IV and TAY
IV The After Years: played but never finished; I didn't like it, it seems when Square makes a sequel to an old game they mess something up
V: never played
VI: played and finished; awesome, anyone who hasn't played should play it
Crisis Core: played and finished; might be better than VII, but the missions are too linear and repetitive
VII: played but never finished; it's a great game but I don't think it's as good as most people think it is (especially not the greatest game of all time)
Dirge of Cerberus: never played; always wanted to but never got a copy
VIII: played but never finished; another great game but it was too easy, I loved the card battle system though
IX: played but never finished; I only got about 2 minutes into this game until I was bored
X: played but never finished; liked it but didn't get very far, seems like the game is too easy
X-2: played but never finished; I liked the classes or whatever they are called
XI: never played
XII: played but never finished; I didn't get far but from what I played I loved it
XIII: played and finished; not like your traditional Final Fantasy, but it's still a great game
XIV: never played

Tactics Series:
Tactics: played and finished; loved it, another one of my favorites
Tactics Advance: played but never finished; no, just no, this game is a disgrace to its predecessor
Tactics A2: never played; if it's anything like Tactics Advance, I don't want to play it

Fighting Series:
Dissidia: played and finished; epic fighting game with some epic characters
Dissidia 012: played and finished; I loved the first one so I'm gonna love this one too, more characters and another story
Ehrgeiz: played and finished; I'll consider this a Final Fantasy game because of the characters that were in it, pretty fun game (especially the RPG mode)

Crystal Chronicles Series:
Crystal Chronicles: played but never finished; this is the only one I played of the series, and I didn't care too much for it

Others:
Mystic Quest: played and finished; loved it and yet another one of my favorites
Final Fantasy Legend: played but never finished; I wouldn't even consider this a Final Fantasy game, it was horrible

The video has to be running in 15 FPS and it has to be a certain resolution or it won't work properly in game.

I loved it. I created a thread about this here. My thoughts are in there.

82
I might be wrong on a few of them but I believe it's something like this:

scene.bin contains enemy AI.
kernel.bin contains spell/weapon/item names and character info.
kernel2.bin contains spell/weapon/item names and character info. (I don't know what the difference is)
battle.lgp contains models used in battle.
flevel.lgp contains field dialogue.

« on: 2011-08-13 00:04:20 »
Hey dude I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this or not but from before I had the black bar at the bottom of the screen problem and was able to fix it with aali's graphics driver. i then installed the menu overhaul and its back  :o do you know what could have caused this or how I could fix it? i didnt know if anyone else had this problem since i didnt feel like going through 23 pages lol

You admitted to downloading a pirated copy of the game. The rules say members cannot help other members with pirated copies.

General Discussion / Re: How Long does it Take You?
« on: 2011-08-11 13:03:47 »
That's the downside of being somewhat perfectionist. The pressure is so high i sometimes drop the game in the middle of such runs (if games are big). I have the perception of this "problem" but i can't play any other way. Also, if i miss something and i can't go back to get it, i eventually drop the game too. Then when i get back to them i usually start again so i don't miss a thing.

I'm exactly the same way. I was doing a run of Final Fantasy VII and I had gotten 99 Iron Bangles, which the only way to get them is to farm money in the Train Graveyard (before you meet Tifa) and buy 99 (which takes about 6+ hours). And then I got to the world map and down to the Midgar serpent thing. I was trying to learn it's Enemy Skill. I learned the skill, ran from the battle and saved it, which ruined my save data. I couldn't continue. Nor could I start another run.

How the hell do you find time to do this? It seems like you're updating it AT LEAST once a day.

87
You should add Loveless. It's a nice text editor.

I think you should include the Eidos Logo movie because it's the only one that I've found on these forums so far and anything is better than the original.

Troubleshooting / Re: Some spells not working
« on: 2011-08-11 03:19:59 »
If you're looking for any visual recognition that the spell had been cast successfully, there is none besides the change of color when using certain spells. Also Haste makes the character's animation faster.

Big Guard casts Protect, Shell, and Haste on all allies. Regen gradually restores a target's HP.

It only depends on whose FMVs you want, and whose will work for you. Taken from the bootleg edit thread.

Before i install is tho, it edits Kernel2.bin and so does Menu overhaul (well i picked it tho option to do so) so would it be ok to use?

Take the Menu Overhaul kernel2.bin and use WallMarket to edit the spells yourself. Or vice versa.

Just tried it. 280.26 fails with shaders enabled and works with them disabled, just like the other releases.

In your mods folder create another folder called avalanche. Stick the menu folder in the avalanche folder. Change your modpath so it reads "modpath = avalanche" and be sure to check the Use High Res Font box in FF8Config.

I'm not saying your opinion doesn't matter, I'm saying maybe you should have said it a little bit nicer way.

I'm not defending DLPB either. I just said he's a great contributor.

lol

shocking how much of a prick he can be isnt it?

You don't have to look hard in this forum to find threads where DLPB is being an ass.

The founder of the site hates him even.

Fact remains, kiddo. Your movies don't work for everyone. So I'm responding to them on your precious thread and letting them know they have an option. Yah, it's true, I tend to troll you and only you. But it's because from day 1 I looked at this site and saw that flaming picture of yourself you use for an avatar and didn't like you. Have a nice day :)

If you think he's such a prick, ignore him and stay off his threads. DLPB is a great contributor. Sure he might have been an ass in Completely Unrelated, but he's banned from that section anyways. He's done more than what you have. The only thing you're doing is causing problems and decreasing the community's morale.

The founder of the site hasn't been on since around the time you registered, so I'm not sure how you know he hates DLPB.

I can understand why you want to help people by suggesting they go download Trojak's FMVs, but there's no need to start a flame war. And maybe you should post a picture of yourself before you start saying stuff about other people's pictures.

Yah, I can't get this working either and my modpath works fine for ff7, so it probably isn't because I put the files in the wrong directory or anything :p

You're doing something wrong. This works for a lot of people.

Make sure it's in the right modpath, make sure you have your modpath set, and make sure you selected Use High Res Font in FF8Config.

Now I made a backup, and its time to get some MODS :)
Any tips on mods?

Use this for a long list of mods. You should start with the Avalanche mods.

I saw something about this somewhere before. I think it has to do with Nvidia drivers. Try turning off shaders in your ff7_opengl.cfg file. Also try turning on fancy transparency.

What's the difference between Projects and the Mods subsection? Are Mods releases and Projects WIPs?

The only option you must choose during installation is "Maximum Installation". If you did that then just use FF7 1.02 Patch and Aali's Driver and report back here.

Also Template, he's just trying the game out first to see if it even works. No need to make him feel unwelcomed by making him feel like an idiot. Besides you don't NEED 1.02 Patch or Aali's Driver to play the game.
