Very nice, as always!
I'm happy to see your WIP pictures, the TA forum was seeming a bit dead these days. Concerning the ripples on the flags of the 3rd pic, do you plan to mesh them (via cloth sim) or only do it via texturing?
Anyway, I'll be definitely looking forward to seeing your progress on these Junon scenes. Do you intend to recreate the whole town for an overhaul of the FMVs? :D
I should make a post on my (slow) progress in the mds5_i textures in the weekend.

Here's a
better different render look

we'll see, if it is not needed, I won't. because Junon is big as it is, and if I can reduce any vertices, it's worth it (especially when things have to animated).
All the streets, with all the houses, and all the details, really slows this little old CPU very much down... :|
...and indeed it seemed a bit dead here. So hopefully people get inspired. ::)

Did you render the third image with Octane? The "noise" effect seems familiar...:P
-
I tried my hand on it as well. Nowhere as good as yours though :P (https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-LMzlfImYIVY/UM08cdfFj3I/AAAAAAAAAGs/r41kd9LsWno/s1280/raetyteyghresyg.jpeg)
Also I don't know if I am accurate or not but based on this picture (http://lpix.org/319664/E26_017.jpg) the tube on the top of the picture looks like it has another one extruding outwards and upwards again. Your reference picture begs to differ though... What do you think???

If you take a look at the original and complete field file, it's much better visible.

the shadow you see on the pipe originates from the diagonal pipe above it.
You can also have a look at the Weapon animation, where it's in view in the first few frames.

Looking good! I really like the detailed reflections on the lamps. Looks like you'll have fun with lighting and reflections :)
Do you have plans for modelling the outdoor landscape for the FMV?

thanx, yep there are some challenges in there ;)
Do you have plans for modelling the outdoor landscape for the FMV?
Does this answer your question?

Just testing out some new hardware....
Not quite the water cooled supercomputer from Timu, but at least it is portable, and also has some blue lights on it as well, but fortunately not as bright... ::)
8-)
-
That's going to be epic! Although it's not surprising that you may need better hardware when you get to model everything - I just re-watched the FMVs and between all the canons, the Sister Ray itself, the cliff in the back, and probably the old town of lower Junon, it's going to be very challenging. Even more so if you have to include all the Shin-Ra soldiers for the FMVs of the Weapon attack :o
-
Well, my PC and Timu's is the same, But he has more RAM (which i sadly need...) I think i am Mayo's personal render slave. But if anyone else needs help rendering something. Lemme know :D
-
I can render too if needed. i7-3770k @ 4.6ghz and 16gb ram

You got to hell SL! got 100 mghz more then i did... haha
-
I never even tried to push it, just set and forgot.
-
green with envy.. i had to toy with my 3570k to get it to 4.5.
Nice specs either way :D
-
Dont forget i have a custom triple rad watercooling system
-
I prefere not to have water in my laptop, although I did put my keyboard under the faucet one time.... :o
-
Recompiling Blender with different compiler flags will decrease render time even on slower CPUs.
-
IMO its not really worth it if you use a MINGW 64 builds from buildbot.
Never tried with ICC though.

Some updates here...

Unfortunately RL is a time-killer...
But hey, enjoy.

Thats okay, happy to see you're still working on it. Beautiful shots by the way
-
That water looks amazing, but I'm worried it'd look less good in-game if that's not an animated map. A still background need still waters, not waves. A shame, because it really is gorgeous.
-
Man, getting final renders of all the scenes you've made will accumulate to months of rendering limbo
I always enjoy looking through these threads, keep up the great work!
-
SpooX is alive! Happy times! Hurray!
Anyway, getting a noise-free picture of a ocean will sure take ages. Do you know some good sources of (free) images for 360 degree skies for enviro lighting? cgtextures does have those for free...
-
Oh well yeah, doesn't always feel like being alive...
But anyway, got myself a new renderer, what do you think?
This will give me some more possibilities... :D

No clue what you are talking about but... thanks! ;D

I'm happy to see that you also got started on lower Junon. Ironically, you told me that you grew tired of Midgar because of its "Grey and dull" feel, but Junon isn't much better :P You should try the scenes of the Ancient Forest :)
I'm so talented :-P :-P
That's it, I'm hiring you for doing all our texturing.

All fun apart, time for a small update here, although the finer details are hard to find.

Just out of curiosity, have you started tinkering with the camera animation to get the corresponding short FMV, like what you did in here (https://www.flickr.com/photos/39897743@N05/5671503965/in/photostream/)?

Ah no, not really yet, I match moved a camera from the highres, but it's not as stable...
I was looking at my exporter if I build it in, but don't think so...was back in 2010 (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=10391.5)... long time ago, have to look in the mess called source...aargh. Now wher did I hid that...
But luckily I exported all scripts, I might check it out if there's a match and how it looks like.
I think it's
Name Size Frames Time(s)
meteosky.cam 10440 261 17
One interesting question I might add here is the discussion ngoing on into making (at least) the battles into 60fps, should we up the vmf's from 15 fps to 60 fps as well?
What do you think?

100% yes! But maybe have 15fps as well just in case of unforeseen problems.
-
I second this idea. Maybe, as obesebear suggests, it may be preferable to first give a go to a 15 fps animation (besides, less demanding when it comes to rendering), but going to 60 fps eventually would be awesome.
-

hmmm....
I might need to get back to the camera data, as the data all depicts 15 fps, so apart from exporting it I need to be able to recreate the files in 60 fps. If that succeeds it might also give us some other possibilities...
But reversing the cam data backwards is quite challenging...
I'll keep you posted on this subject.
Question though surrounding LGP files:
Can we quadrouple the data in an LGP without issue?
8-)
-
Could the 60 fps camera data be generated from the 15 fps data from a simple interpolation procedure (it just seems 60 fps is about dividing each 15 fps interval by 4 - but I'm no animation expert)?
Then... I'm not sure why you would like to quadruple the data on LGP files. Is it for having 60 fps animation of the 3d field models which are overlaid on some of the movies?
I don't know if there has been work on playing at 60 fps in field zones.

I don't know how the moviedata is being handled by the executable, but that might be an option.

The camera animation is tied into the walkmesh and thus the models rendered on top of the movie. If you have an 60fps movie and the moviedata is handled in 15fps... it will be out of sync most likely. Also if I remember correctly, some timers are linked to the frames as well.
I don't know if there has been work on playing at 60 fps in field zones.
Don't think so either. But if there is a request for 60 fps movies, this has to be done, otherwise it makes no sense.
any volunteers here?

My part of a field 60 fps should be easier than working on battle models. Everything else will be up to the smart guys to fix the technical parts
-
Doesnt field run at 30fps?
-
Doesnt field run at 30fps?
Well of course it does now, but between potential 60fps FMVs and the kick obesebear and NFITC1 and DLPB are already on in making battles run at 60fps, I don't think it's too far a stretch to want to mod it to run at 60fps instead.

Damn it Spoox, taking charge. How did you make that grass? Scatter or fur?
And that water material :], displacement or noise maps?

This is seriously awesome ;D
For long term purposes: would you have any clue about how to set such camera animation rig in Blender? I was contemplating doing some Nibelheim scenes next year, and there are many similar camera animations in there (Lifestream flashback, mostly).

Thanks, used the clay preview this time...
I haven't looked into animation for blender yet, it's not as easy as in Max.
But, back to the details for now.
Slowly progressing, and testing another el-cheapo cpu setup for my renderfarm...

Spoox Hi, I chose to take a little bit with your work a little simpler tools than yours, I use Sketchup, with this one I used myself as Thea Render renderer, do it two months that I I begin this very pleasant job, I speak a little on the forum ff7.fr with Mayo Master to get some advice, if you could go and tell me what you think. By cons I accused, I'll move to recreate a scene max for it to be "nice" and not "perfect" because I chose to come back on it when I'd already doing a scene package to "improve " work. So I accept the advice but I'd rather try to reach the end of the project. I somehow extends your work ^^
PS: Sorry for my bad english
