I included the FFVIII mods for the old .exe link by qhimm forums in the Essential mods guide for the steam community. My goal is to attract as many new modders as possible to help the qhimm community fix the issues in FFVIII.

You can add these mods to the Nexus side. I think there are more potential moders. When I'm ready with updating my models I will add my mod to the Nexus as well.
If I imagine how people will look when they see Final Fantasy VII on the games list:  ":o FF7?"

Not sure whether to make a new topic or not, but I figured it would be easier to just ask my question here...

I just bought FF8 on Steam.  So I was wondering if I should install Aali's driver for it?  I assume his driver is only for the PC release and not to Steam release.

Post by: LeonhartGR on 2014-06-25 02:46:49
Welcome @qhimm's WatashiWaZero!

Yep you have figured out well by yourself! Aali's driver current version works only for the old pc release.

Make sure you follow the latest graphics steam mods though, since they are really promising for any graphical improvement, in the near future!

Also DLPB's "Roses and Wine" mod, along with his tools, have offered a lot of potential, as far as importing your own trakcs in looping .ogg format is concerned or just use the already featured ones if you are too lazy to deal with it at all.

Have fun at the forums by browsing all the wonderful mods the modders here have to offer!

Enjoy your stay!

Thanks for the quick reply Leon, and also for the warm welcome, but I've been following Qhimm a lot longer than most people despite the age of my account.  I just never bothered making an account until Dan started his retranslation project which was only for the purpose of inquiring a few things from him.

Hey Leonhart, don't you think you should add Deling? Even if it's considered as a modder tool it's a great one when it comes to replacing some files in a field file.

Did you disable any STEAM overlays for this game? Like achievements and such. I wouldn't trust windows 8 though. If someone else has any solution about this please feel free to hope in on this discussion! :)

hahahah thanks for the google thing :D that was funny...
But it didn't work, sadly :/
So it must be the SweetFX and Tonberry compatibility, i'm reinstaling the game so i can do it again, this time i won't install SweetFX...
let's see if it works :D

You can't run SweetFX and Tonberry together because both would be trying to communicate with directX.

Try to use Gedosato (http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?page_id=582). It can inject SweetFX without the need of a deirectx file. It also should be possible for it to unlock the internal 720p cap the game has.

You can't run SweetFX and Tonberry together because both would be trying to communicate with directX.

Not only that, but SweetFX shouldn't be needed with all of the new Tonberry mods.  After Eden/SeeDReborn/Tripod/HorizonPack/ShunsqCharacterReplacement, you should even be able to turn off linear filtering and get the best effect.

Try to use Gedosato (http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?page_id=582). It can inject SweetFX without the need of a deirectx file. It also should be possible for it to unlock the internal 720p cap the game has.

I like this option -- even if only for unlocking resolutions.  I need to test this.

Actually... I read into it, and it looks legit.  You should totally be able to do this to FF8 on Steam since it uses DirectX9.  It would enable the use of all sorts of goodies while still being able to use Tonberry.  Hell, you may even be able to put Tonberry through it too from what I see.  I however, would have no idea how to do it... lol.

Gedosato is what is used to run FFXIII in 1080p / 4k / whatever resolution you want. It works pretty good.

Is this tool working for the XIII-2 as well?

What's new?:
2.04:
- Persistent textures - modders now have the ability to designate textures as "persistent," meaning they will never be removed from the cache.
- Significant performance improvements - Tonberry should be running faster than ever due to some major cache optimizations and an improvement to the way we handle the core textures.
**cache_size should be no more than 250 to prevent memory overflow exceptions

Known issues:
- The Steam overlay is still not supported by Tonberry and should be either disabled or circumvented using Mcindus' GeDoSaTo configuration (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15988.0;topicseen)

I'm upto the Lunar Base part, And everyone in a space suit is all messed up, there eyes are on there crutch and body parts are all jumbled.
But that's only a small problem, My problem is when i try to save Rinoa from space, Her texture doesn't show up, So i can't see where i'm supposed to move as she's not in the screen
Does anyone have any idea on how i can fix this? it's not possible to move forward from this spot when she's stuck in space lol

That would be Rebirth Flame. I've posted a download for v1.1. Download it if you haven't and use the updated hashmap. You also need to delete the objmap or disable it. This will solve all those problems.

Get rid of "char_textures_obj" because that is actually an older version of Rebirth Flame before it was moved to it's own thread and took on the new name.

I believe you'd be able to use RaW and GeDoSaTo (if you set that up on your own). The ones involving textures use Tonberry, which to my knowledge, only works with the Steam version.

This should be added to the FMVs section! I personally like these a tad better than the others listed. Only issue with his download is that you would have to rename the videos yourself. I used a program called 'Bulk Rename Utility' to do this myself in about 5 minutes (could have been a lot quicker if I knew right off the bat how to use this program) or so.

Not sure I can do this. If not sorry; a mod can remove this part if need be. But HERE (https://mega.co.nz/#!y4pniJKT!V6thjvsyNRIdYy7pwvoEc89SerwsCW8Ot85bvYvkYss) is a download link to the FMVs with all of them renamed so you can just copy them over into your movies folder. It's slightly bigger than the one Damocles233 provides. My guess is because I added a 100% recovery record to the RAR file.

Hey, so I'm noticing that a fair number of these are more "multiple choice" than "essential". I know it might be more work than is okay to ask, but is there a way to get a short summary of what each mod does and which ones are compatible/which replace the same thing? Or, barring that, a sort of "starter pack" of the most standard/baseline mods?

Project NORG (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=14416.msg201713#msg201713) by Damocles233 (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?action=profile;u=21550)

Are these actually better than the ones steam has done? Because I tried Kayael's and steams look better. I didn't try Leonhart's 1080p ones or Project Norg.

Hi guys!

How are you? Lot of time /w computer!
I have to coment one problem that I have in my new computer. I've installed Rebirth by Flame and Seed Reborn, but while i'm playing a message error appears, the screen crashes and I have to close the game. I think that maybe is Seed Reborn, because when screen crashes the texts fails and I can't see nothing. Someone have an idea that what's happening?

Thank you! And nice to see you again!

SOLVED.

I wouldn't really call Tonberry a system, more like a texture replacer.
You download Tonberry, put the files and folders in your FF8 directory, and put hashmaps, objmaps, and textures in the respective folders.
Unfortunately, one of the main modders for this, Mcindus, has had his downloads removed due to the domain going down, but there should be some mirrors, and he is trying to get the files back up.

all the links to download are down, and the advanced screen shots are also removed.

Hey mate! You'd better post in the corresponding steam thread then. I just entered the link and I can see the images posted there. Maybe they fixed that...
