Sup everybody, well i was recently doing the ficedula music mod for ff7, and i realized the original music quality is poor. now i know there's the advent children tracks, and oc remixes, techno remixes, and live performance versions etc. etc. etc. but they aren't enough to replace the whole soundtrack, plus all different style remixes together doesn't give the game a smooth experience. so i decided to remaster all 85 tracks!!! no funky remixes, just keeping the original orchestrated feel, but with much higher quality. I'm glad to report I'm about 25% complete. It'll take quite a while to finish though. I'll upload a demo soon.
****okay, here's a demo: http://rapidshare.com/files/175804137/FFVII_Soundtrack_Remasterd_Demo.mp3
and yea, hell of alot of work. i want to compose music for games, so this is training for me i guess. send me some feed back, go easy, i lack a studio.
HERES JENOVA COMPLETED.

Sounds awesome, also sounds like a lot of work.
-
Im shooting to finish sometime next month.... hopefully, some tracks are ridiculous
-
Very good; I prefer orchestral style remixes to the techno that seems to be popular. There's someone on youtube who has done something similar (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9a7H_1krlzw), but it hasn't been released yet.
-
i wonder if they plan to do all 85. the more the merrier. itll push me to do better.
-
Prelude - Very nice here. Bad Synth out Harp in. This wins.
Hurry - The ticking was a little too loud and made the off-beat melody sound more off-beat than usual
AVALANCHE Theme - Good job. Sounds like the original with better instruments :D
Tifa's Theme - Too soft. I don't mean the volume. The original was some synth flute and you made it a violin with flowing notes. Make the notes more harsh or change it back to a flute.
Battle theme - Missing the mechanical edge in the background. Notes need to be more defined I would assume
Turks theme - Sounded good until the Bass came in. Alternating the left/right audio channels hurt my ears when I was wearing headphones
Boss battle theme - This was my least favorite. I don't mind the orchestral sounds, but this really does require a metal guitar as the melody
I can't remember the names of the next two, but I liked what you did with them. :)
ShinRa Corp theme - I like the power this suddenly gave the theme. This is good too.
Overworld - I love even the original of this and almost all remixes end up the same, but still very nice.
I really like what I hear. I can't wait to hear the rest.
-
thanks!! truely appreciate the feedback. the fighting themes are definitely the difficult ones. a good sounding heavy guitar is tough to emulate, but ill try.
-
NFIT's comments are fine, those guidelines are what you should follow... just out of curiosity, what programs are you using?
-
reason, cakewalk, philharmonik, sampletank, the grand 2, native world instruments, real guitar labs, and a bunch of small VSTs. oh, and a really really really crappy laptop that i want to smash.
-
keep up the good work! I'm workin on a project that this would work well with.. it'll get a thread soon... but i'm just startin to mod ff7, so once i got one thing working it'll b a long haul. I was just thinking of having a mod like this about a day ago. a proper music mod would require tracks made for the sake of modding. I'm glad your trying to stick to the same style of the game, its great. Also, make sure your files split up the same way as they do in the game, so it loops properly... take the midi files out and make yer remastered version based on the clip, then reinsert.
-
sensational work. i am posotivly impressed.
-
Wow you're making an awesome work!!
that demo sounds really cool
-
timu sumisu, im intrigued to know what ur working on, but ill wait. yea, im building each song so they loop perfectly. its all for the sake of modding.
-
Sounds interesting. And your demo was really good(though I agree to NFITC1's comment). Hope I can hear more. Oh, and.. maybe you can consider to make them mo3 (http://www.un4seen.com/mo3.html).
**I was once crazy enough to output almost all midis from FF7PC to WAVs via softsynth.. for my own use.
-
they'll be in mp3. oh, has anyone here sucessfully replaced the opening bombing mission song? i tried naming the file oa.mp3 and ob.mp3, no luck.
-
oa is the music played for the opening. Nothing more. ob is Bombing Mission. If you're trying to replace the music played in the opening and it just won't work, that *suggests* that it's impossible to do so for whatever reason (I've never bothered to replace oa, so I'm taking a shot in the dark here).
-
ohh, i was thinking oa was the opening + the bombing mission. so ob is what im really trying to replace.... although, still unsuccessful.
-
I've experience with Reason, recording engineering, and composition. I'm not trying to steal any thunder here, but damn man, I would have a blast helping you out on this. As for the metal crunch missing out of some of the battle music, I've an electric guitar with pedals stacked up to my knees...with about 6 years experience on guitar.
If you would like some help with this, let me know and I'd love to redo the boss music to show what I'm capable of as a starting point.
Very nice stuff, BTW. I noticed you love the reverb ;) I don't think it works too well for the battle music, however. I'm guessing it's to mask some of the cheesier sounding bites out of Orkster? Either way, I think this is a fantastic idea and would love to help out. Unless you are doing nothing but working on this, getting 85 tracks done in a month sounds like a stretch. I know how much work can go into this stuff, and from what I've heard so far from the demo, you intend to do a good jaerb.
Best Regards,
Karac
-
karac, the guitar is much needed. i would like to hear what your capable of, although im sure you could teach me a few things on sound. ive never set foot in a studio.
-
ohh, i was thinking oa was the opening + the bombing mission. so ob is what im really trying to replace.... although, still unsuccessful.
Still unsuccessful? Having trouble replacing just ob or every song? If it's the former, then that's really, really weird...
If it's the latter, then it can be safely blamed on a badly configured FF7Music. Do you need any guidance?

well here's the thing. i can get all songs to play, but the bombing mission song doesnt play when cloud jumps out the train in the beginning. however, the first boss fight uses the bombing mission song, and it successfully plays there.
-
I'm not expert on modding sound er anything... but can we hear another sample of your work?
-
christmas has me busy, ill have something new up soon.
-
for the boss battle, listen to the black mages version of "those who fight further". Compared to a lot of their songs, it feels pretty close to what it was supposed to be like in game. Good instrumentation, note the keyboards and guitar.

@shazman1984
I'm sorry, but the issue you're having is really bizarre. It has to do with your FF7Music configuration settings most likely, but I wouldn't know what to change. Maybe you'll receive more help if you posted something in the STICKY FF7Music thread. I wish I could help you more.
Merry Christmas by the way! (if you celebrate it :-))

thanks for the effort shadowseer. truly appreciate it. ill play around with the settings, see what happens.
(although I'm Muslim, In all good spirit, Merry Christmas to you and your family as well) that goes for everyone else here as well.
-
Thank you :-D
Bad news (you may have noticed this): the FF7Music thread is growing pretty old. I'm not sure if you'll receive any help by posting there. Shame I'm not home right now; I'd be able to tell you my settings (which should eliminate the problem, since it's a problem I've never had). Oh well, no point in wishing against reality :-(
-
OK here's the boss battle music I'm come up with. I'm pretty pleased with it.
So what's next? Improved battle music? Let me know? :-D

Turn it up!!!
-
Karac, Dude, I love It!! Its exactly what it should be!! Job well done! Any other tracks u wanna do, feel free.
-
Karac, its pretty good, but yer guitar has too much treble. Give it more bass for more depth. Also, certain passages need to be cleaned up, such as the little roll at the end of the opening riff. Work the balance a bit between keyboard and guitar, and overall just try to match it up with the original.
Well, here's my go at it... just ran the midi through garageband, did a lil volume adjustments here n there and gave it better soundin instruments

So far so good! I'm looking foward the Shinra complete one!

Surely Powerglove version of the Boss Theme is the ultimate one?
Powerglove - Omnishred (We're Gonna Need a Bigger Sword).mp3 (http://www.4shared.com/file/77972761/85ac7124/08_Omnishred__Were_Gonna_Need_a_Bigger_Sword_.html)
My personal fav anyway.

---Dec 23----So I wanted to have this finished by next month, but i don't think its gonna happen. (1)- im trying to maintain what social life i have left(dont wanna be a bachelor forever) . (2)- if i rush it, i wont be happy with the quality, which will go against the whole reason for doing this. but i am making a deadline. MARCH 1st, Ill have all 85 tracks for everyone to download. Ive never really contributed to anything like this, so im really passionate about it.
Hello Shazman1984,
First of all....good job on your remastered music, i really like your style :) shamefully, some samples come across as (dont get me wrong) a bit too synthetic
I started rearranging FINAL FANTASY VII OST when i first checked Ficedula's FF7Music back in 2005 or 2006.
Sadly i was too busy and didnt have the time nor money to spend on a project like that. So my high quality standards couldnt justify...:(
Now i do have the time and samples so in the last couple of weeks i already finished whole DISC 1 with FULL high quality Orchestral/Rock/Electronic sounds that are up to my standards.
Ill post some demos soon :D "Show dont tell"
Ill post an offcial topic on this project (or maybe we can work together and merge:)) when im finished with DISC 2
The only thing that keeps bugging me is the loop system :( maybe you can help me with that for a solution
Hope we can work together on this :D

Good job! nice one :P
Im finally finished with FFVII Main Theme, its a real complex piece..hard to find balance in volume etc...
-

....i've just been rick roll'd.....
-
....couldnt help myself, everyone kept gettin me.

....couldnt help myself, everyone kept gettin me.
haha lol, after 2 times, i remembered the URL so...didnt fool me :)
Anyway, how's going?
Im currently tweaking some tracks and im close finishing Disc 2, i really had some trouble with the best track on this CD: "J-E-N-O-V-A"
With all the stuff going on, it was really hard to master this track...especially with preventing clipping
-
Hey, shazman1984! Are you still having trouble with the first time ob is supposed to play? Just wondering if I still have the chance to help you (though I'm probably way too late now lol).
-
yea, still an issue, i havent tried it again for a while now.
-
Now, I've replaced ob, but I haven't replaced oa. When the game opens, I hear the original opening game music but then when it gets to Bombing Mission, I hear the file I've replaced it with (which is Dark Messenger from FFVII DoC btw). That's what you want to happen, right?
My "Playback Options" are as follows:
"Loop custom files" is ticked (yes)
"Resuming" is set to none
"Mute midi on custom playback" is ticked
"Maximise midi on song not found" is ticked
"Emulate ramps" is ticked, but "delay stops" is not
"Obey stop" is ticked
I doubt this matters, but my "midi device" is set to Creative SoundFont Synthesizer
Although shamefully, I do have issues of my own with these settings. You know that sound you're supposed to get when you're on the field and you encounter a random enemy? The sound you get as soon as the battle music starts, while the screen is spiralling inwards? Well, I don't hear that for some reason; I only hear the battle music. Also, whenever tracks fade out, my replacement music files fade out really quickly and after they fade out, I faintly hear the original midi version playing for like, a half a second before that too fades out... it's kinda hard to describe it.
EDIT: I just listened to your version of J-E-N-O-V-A for the first time and dang, it's good!! Very well done on that one!
-
aight shadow, ill give it a try, thanks dude.
-
shazman1984, how's the project going?
Im currently analyzing some tracks of CD3 and fix/tweak a few tracks to match.
I hope i can finish it on friday or so :)
-
slowly but surely, ill finish in 2 weeks.
-
GOOD NEWS!
Today i finished DISC 4!!!
Ill add some ID3 tags etc and will upload it asap!

Hey bro, I like what you're doing so far. This is my first post here on this forum as I've been just in the shadows reading for a while. I wanted to let you know I'm willing to give any help that I can to your project. I've been playing bass guitar for 12 years and guitar for 8. I used to have a version that I did of Interrupted By Fireworks worked out, I'll have to pull out my acoustic and remember where my fingers go again. If you need a sample of some of my work, I've got a youtube channel where I do some covers and an original on guitar here---->http://www.youtube.com/user/armywalaby
BTW, I like to use the song In The Presence Of Enemies for my boss music...it's rad.

Great work.
