Title: [WIP] Cloud hires motorbike replacement
Post by: BloodShot on 2009-08-27 01:38:29
!!THIS VERSION IS SORELY OUTDATED!! - GET THE LATEST VERSION HERE - http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=10895.0

Here is the direct download link, for the lazy: http://www.filefront.com/17425112/HQMBV2---Classic-Buster.rar/

I've decided to do this for the people who like to use the realistically proportioned models from the battle models/ff7 prp for field models, as i have not seen anyone do this.

I used kimera to replace the horribly low-poly cloud on his motorcycle during the chase with the battle mode

Some screenies: (the warped textures on the highway are because of fraps)

It still has 1 or 2 animation problems when attacking, but they aren't very noticeable.  In fact, the only reason i noticed them is because i was looking through the close up screenshots i took with FRAPS.

What on earth is going on with the road texture in those pics? Is that a side effect of your mod?

Nah, its a side effect of taking screens using FRAPS instead of printscreen

I used fraps because it's quicker than printscreen, but it causes some pretty wierd things sometimes.

EDIT: hmm, it seems only some things were from fraps, there are squiggly textures on the roads even with the original unmodified high-us.lgp

Me and Blood Crow have done this too, but we used the chibi model from the Chibi Reconstruction, will be included in the V1.5 update  :-D

Edit: Heres the Image, he's a bit small at the moment. but I'll resize :)

To add the textures, extract your char.lgp and your high_us.lgp into separate folders, copy aabb.tex, aabc.tex and aabd.tex from the char folder into the high_us folder, open kimera, load clouds bike model from high_us, select his head, and select 'show texture options' then click add texture and add aabb.tex. do the same for the others.

I figured out how to texture it, but i wasn't sure why the textured parts disappeared ingame... now i know that its because i didn't put all 3 textures. Thanks, appreciate your help with it :)
Nice chibi btw, i look forward to your release, as i like to play the game both hi-res and chibi field models.

Back on-topic, update:
Shinra soldiers on bikes, cloud's posture and position of body parts is much improved, and face and belt are now textured

Video: (sorry for the lag, fraps sucks)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YuXphkRMe0
Some of you may notice the squiggly textures. That is not because of this mod, it may be a driver glitch with my ati card.

EDIT: IMAGES!!

Yeah, probably sometime later today. :)

got a few things to do first.

Post by: BloodShot on 2009-08-28 02:30:08
It's mostly done, just gotta fix up a few things here and there.

But i wanna know what you guys think on the sword. Should i replace it with the buster sword, or leave it as the hardedge?

oh and btw can anyone tell me the modelname of the hardedge from battle so i can replace the crappy bike one with it?
Title: Re: [WIP] Cloud hires motorbike replacement
Post by: Torazo on 2009-08-28 03:17:44
Personally, I would prefer the Buster Sword over the Hard Edge while on the Motorbike. You probably would too, otherwise you may not have suggested changing it.
Title: Re: [WIP] Cloud hires motorbike replacement
Post by: BloodShot on 2009-08-28 03:24:29
Hmm, i just replaced the hardedge with the one from the battle model, still gotta test it ingame, but ill do both to see which i think is better, maybe ill also release it as 2 seperate downloads for whichever one someone wants.

It doesn't make sense to me. He doesn't even have the hard edge at that time in the game. he has the buster sword. o.o??
why did they give him the hard edge anyways?
Title: Re: [WIP] Cloud hires motorbike replacement

I already had the hard edge.  You steal it from the SOLDIERS I think.

oh. i never knew you could do that. or is that in the hard core mod?

You can steal it from the Shinra Soldiers in the Shinra HQ in the original game. I couldn't be bothered to waste my time in that place to get it. You can buy it at Junon and Gongaga for 1500 gil, but personally, I would just buy the Butterfly Edge at Junon and skip the bother for the Hard Edge. To be honest, I rarely used it and I didn't care much for it at all, after all it did look like a paper thin rectangle on a handle.

Here's the Hardedge early in the game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fi5yvCyGwik).

And I didn't know Cloud used the Hardedge in the motorbike mini-game. Is everyone sure it isn't just a badly modelled Buster Sword? That's what I always thought it was

That's what I always thought it was too. I never even imagined it being anything else. If it really is a Hard Edge then I don't think it makes any sense to show it off instead of his trademark Buster Sword.

Post by: BloodShot on 2009-08-28 04:00:20
hmm, i always thought it was the hardedge, concidering the poster in my room he's sitting on the bike holding it lol.

actually, when i first played i thought to myself, "hey, why doesn't the buster sword have any materia holes while he's on the bike?" so maybe i just think that because of my poster really.

Anways, i got the hardedge and the buster sword on the bike ingame, ill make some screenies in a bit and let you guys decide what you think looks better.

EDIT:

Found a pic of my poster, this is what im talking about. Its kinda lowres from where i found it though.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that pic

Well, in the minigame the models are so bad that it's hard to tell which one it is. If he was supposed to have a Hardedge, perhaps Square wanted to show him with the most powerful sword he could have at that point in the game.

Okay, just took screenshots with fraps, uploading them now............

Damn... hate uploading high-res screenshots to photobucket, takes forever when its 1680x1050 resolution.

wow, this is taking forever, gonna play unreal for a bit, pictures should be up in a couple of minutes.

Ok, here we go:

(once again, don't mind the textures)
first, the buster sword -

and the hardedge -

Which one do you guys prefer?

EDIT:

Also, do you guys know of any good (free) capture programs that work with final fantasy VII?

Fraps is really starting to piss me off, it must hate ATI cards.
Title: Re: [WIP] Cloud hires motorbike replacement
Post by: titeguy3 on 2009-08-28 04:23:24
I kind of like the hardedge, it's a clever idea given that promotional image, but I admit it would be kind of confusing for somebody playing through who didn't yet get the hardedge at that point.

EDIT: do you think it'd be possible for you to use Millenia's Hardedge (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8560.0)?

With the custom graphics driver? No. I'd like to know the answer to this as well. With a normal graphics driver? Camstudio (http://camstudio.org) works just fine for me (but not for everyone, or so I've heard), but I imagine that you want high-res pics to show off the improvements :-P

Image/Video capture software works a lot better with windowed applications as opposed to fullscreen ones. Try windowing your game when you want to do a capture.

Well, i don't think it has anything to do with Aali's opengl, fraps seems to decrease my fps horribly in any games like quake 3, battlefield 2, etc. strangely, when i record Crysis videos it's not that bad.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with their support for ATI cards, as my friend had just recently upgraded to the same ATI card as mine, and he has the same problems while trying to record vids in Asherons Call (old-ass MMO made by turbine) which shouldn't run like crap concidering its a very old game and we both have very new PCs.

Image/Video capture software works a lot better with windowed applications as opposed to fullscreen ones. Try windowing your game when you want to do a capture.

Hmm, ill have to try that out

No, once i put the weapon in it becomes part of the minigame's LGP. unless you were to repack it yourself, but i don't know if it would show up right unless you modify it slightly too.

Okay, some good news. Turns out i can actually record videos with a good framerate during the bike game if i lower the res to 1280x800.

Now that i think of it, this would have made a lot of sense to turn down the resolution.

Huh. strange. when i run it in windowed mode, the colors are seriously f'ed up, but when i take a screenshot or a video, it shows up fine.

I'm gonna record a new vid. You guys want a vid of the buster sword in action? or the hardedge?

Strange, i recorded the chase in segments, but for some reason windows movie maker only has sound on the first segment, all the other ones have no sound.

makes no sense because i play the segments through windows media and they all have sound.

god, i hate WMM

New video, this one has a much better framerate, although the fraps.com logo is bigger because of the lower resolution. (might still be processing)

Its of the buster sword, ill have the hardedge video up soon hopefully.

For some reason, Youtube thinks it's better to make the crappy, low quality version public whilst the higher quality one is still processing...

Well, I'm going to bed, ill see you guys tomorrow, thanks for the help and feedback you guys have given me.

Oh by the way, when i release tomorrow, should i just upload both of my high-us.lgps? or should i upload the modified files seperately?

Im leaning towards the former choice.

Anyways, I've gotta go take a piss, I've been holding it in for a couple of hours now.

Night all.

I'm leading towards the latter; much less to download, and avoids the potential legal issues of uploading a file that (I presume) contains models made by Square

I just tested it with direct 3D, and the ground textures are fine.

I have a feeling its probably my card is having problems with Aali's opengl driver.

Strangely, thats the only problem i've ever encountered with the driver.

EDIT:

heh, never set use_shaders to false for aali's config -

Does this minigame use separate textures for the portraits that appear next to the life meters, or the same portraits as the main menus just shrunk? If you're going to put Tifa in the main position, you'll want to swap their portraits.

Then again, it's still Cloud losing HP for the upcoming boss battle, isn't it. Hmm...

Actually, i was really just doing this for 2 reasons:
1. to screw around and fun
2. My sister (she likes tifa)

I don't know, should i release the tifa version too?
It doesn't really make sense, as even *hypothetically* if i got the health to switch to effecting tifa, its still cloud in the cutscene, and tifa is still driving the car too.

Hmm...

I'm in early stages of a complete script rewrite hack of FF7, to make it untrue to itself and hilarious (Reno will say "Got it memorized?" quite a bit). A Tifacycle could work for that, if you decide not to release this patch.

I'm sorry if this counts as thread necromancy, but is there any chance for the Motorbike replacement to be re-uploaded? It's seemingly the final piece to my otherwise perfect version of FFVII PC. Again, I apologize if I'm just uselessly reviving an old topic.
