Title: [FF7] Windowed Mode - FF7w (2.0.0.5)
Post by: bulk_4me on 2005-02-05 03:53:11
Renamed the project, comes with lots of new things for you to enjoy :D

This version doesnt work on Windows 9x (95, 98, Me) if someone wants to make a custom DLL loader for Windows 9x please contact me for more information. Also this only supports the english version + patch 1.02 of the game. If you have Ficedula's FF7-windowed patch applied I highly suggest you to restore the file to it's original form (optional) or get a fresh copy from http://rpghaven.uni.cc/goldfinger/ff7/ff7102zx.zip . You must put all files in your FF7 install dir.

Update: If you have 2.00 update all your files to 2.0.0.5!

This DOESN'T work with Windows 95/98/Me

Nice!

Say why doesnt it support 9x? anything specific like win32 api calls etc. If it's not a ton of trouble i could probably whip something up in delphi though im relitavly new to dynamic link library's(havent had much use for them).

Well yeah, you need to write a DLL loader for 9X, in NT you can easily achieve that with CreateRemoteThread, but that doesn't work in 9X and I am to lazy to write something for that. If you are still up for the job PM so I can fill you up with the details. You only need to write a Custom "NTD3Loader.dll" that works in 9X, everything else is Platform Independent.

Download the file again, if you are experiencing some odd behavior with the Cheat Plugin.

MOD EDIT: Don't double-post.

Question:

Can you make it run in 16-bit color instead of relying on the desktop's default color depth?  So i don't have to keep switching it just to play?  Cuz i don't want stripes in the fmvs, and i like my icons being pretty and in full color if i have to look at 'em behind a windowed game!

I dunno =/  Possible?  PWEEAASE?

EDIT: LOTS of bugs: Some backgrounds don't show up, or appear funky.  For instance, when Cloud hands over the black materia, the background is pitch black.  In rocket town, the far background gets ultra-pixelized depending on where you are, but then reverts to normal once you get close to it.

And now i have wierd horizontal scanlines, and some of the fmvs now look like they're in 8-bit color isntead of 16, even after i uninstalled the thing =/

Also, cannot ALT TAB/mouseclick back INTO the game.  Kinda kills the whole point of windowed mode, eh?

1. May be possible I'll think about it :D
2. The pixels & funky bg are your card's fault not FF7w since it doesnt mess with the graphic engine nor graphics for that matter.
3. Don't Alt+tab press Ctrl+Esc, you will be able to Multi task without losing controls. Also I thought that most of you used a Gamepad!

No, seriously, the movies look worse.  For example, the one where you take the tram up to the gold saucer; aside from some grainyness, i never really noticed a visual difference.  After using the patch, there's suddenly ugly brown blocks all over the back of the thing.  I know the movie file wasn't messed with, because i took a fresh copy off the disk.  In winamp everything looks fine.  The opening movie looks worse even, too: there were green block patterns popping up all over, where there weren't any before (dark gray, maybe, but not green!).

Also, the "horisontal bar" was more of a passing distortion, akin to a scanline.  Could be my video card having a headache for some reason =/

Is anyone else getting wierdness like this?

The green blocks thing sounds like a weird codec problem, install any new codecs recently? Might have just been a coincidence....

Look even if was the patch, all FF7w "changes" are performed on runtime that means that the patches are not permanent, so you can decide when and how you want FF7 to be changed everytime, you dont even need to delete FF7w to "remove the changes", just dont run FF7 with FF7w, 'cuz my program does not edit the any file in any way, all changes are performed in memory every time you run the game.

I don't THINK i've installed any new codecs, unless something came with HL2 that i wasn't aware of.  However, i even reinstalled the "movie player", and that didnt do squat.  Mebbe I'll retry the USD moviepatch, see what that does...

But ok Bulk, I'm convinced.  I just thought maybe the overlay was different or -SOMETHING-.  I really don't beleive in coincidence.  I'm not accusing you of anything, btw.  It's just, i played ff7 the other day, everything was fine.  Tried the patch, and things got messy.  Now, without knowing how the patch worked, you'd make the same assumption that I did.  So, please don't take this personally; i was only trying to HELP by reporting what i thought was a bug.

But mweh, WHATEVER happened, this gives me the excuse i've been looking for to dl the playstation fmvs and use those instead >=D

That's ok I don't take your post personally, it's just that you implied that FF7w messed with your configuration & FF7 files even after "uninstalling" it, which as I posted is impossible just wanted to clarify that. On the other hand all feedback is appreciated. :D

No it isn't. Mouse events are just ignored by the assigned handler function. You could write your own handler function and replace the function pointer FF7 uses to handle mouse messages to do whatever click handling you wish.

You need to be more specific are you talking about your desktop screen resolution or the game's resolution? If the latter then you'll have a direct draw area that's blank consisting of your 'increased' resolution area with a smaller section having the game graphics in it. The other posibility is you could have a really messy looking screen that's looks like the game image is all twisted about.

If I'm reading this right this is a bit of a confused - FireKing, no-one can get above 640x480 in the game itself and the game looks pixelated for everyone (in fact, even if it did run higher than 640x480 it would just result in the backgrounds being stretched to match the higher resolution = more pixelated, unless there was some kind of background image filtering). Though someone was working on a 'high-res' patch to allow the game to run in 800x600 and up, you'll have to stick with the low-res for the time being.

Hey bulk, i just starting using your FF7w cuz i need the save everywhere

anyway, i just run the game in 640x480 with Ficedula's Window Patch, Cheat Plugin, Topmost Window. OHH it running so PERFECT!! no black line across the screen, the battle swirl is so perfect, it running ok. but one thing, when i want to go to the background, the Alt-Tab stuff, then i went back to FF7, then my FF7 is not responding with my keyboard then i went to A;t_tab to get to my desktop, my keyboard is working fine but eseem FF7w need to work on the keyboard non-response after Alt-Tab

i know you are working on hotkey the Cheat Plugin, but i have some suggestion

Can you spread the Cheat Plugin and give some user a option like Infinte MP, Infinite HP, Save Everywhere, stuff like that. i want some of the option turn off like Infinite HP. all-in-one option like Cheat Plugin...

hope this is not much to ask but can you expand more option on Cheat Plugin?

Oh, yeah that's an undocumented feature too. Ha ha ha, well good news I fixed the "Alt+Tab lose controls" problem & added a cursor to the Window. I am still struggling with the damn TXT fxn, I found something cool though, there is a Word Pointer, that you can patch to emulate standing somewhere "e.g. A Save Point", but that didnt help on my search for the TXTfxn  :(

I dont really know why they didn't use a simple..

Code: [Select]
push String Pointer
push postion
call PrintText

yup..same things happen for Yuffie's Landscape limit break, and one of Cid's limits too..Anything that has something to do with the ground I guess

And I'm not sure if I'm encountering a bug due to FF7w..
The sound effects work at the start of the game, but after some time, there's no sound anymore..
I checked the boards, and yes..my audio.dat is a non-zero file..
I can hear the chocobo sounds in FF7 config..and in the FF7 in game config, the MIDI indicator shows Not Supported..

Sound effects won't be heard unless FF7 is the Active Window (there is no workaround to this @ the time). This usually happens when you Alt+Tab, just Alt+Tab back to the window, or if you are using 2.0.0.5 click back on the window.

Hey guys..I need some help..
I'm stuck somwhere in Disc 2 along the path to where Sephiroth's real body is..
I just defeated Jenova Death, and passed one of the last of those wind/lightning shields..
Upon reaching to the next screen is a flashback part..And Barret interrupts in the middle (the same as in Disc 1's flashback) and the next screen is where Young Cloud stands outside a house..and I have no idea why I'm stuck there, and can't move...I can just turn around on the spot..
Can someone help me get out of that situation?
Here's my save file...

Since I am such a nice guy... I fixed your SaveFile ;) , this was probably caused by the "Save Anywhere" plugin, so I highly recommend you to turn that off prior changing discs (hotkey: 3).

http://bulk4me.bwhacks.com/save07.ff7

This is how you can fix it by yourself:

Get Jenova and an Hex Editor.

1. Open the corrupted file in FF7 and save it to an empty "MemCard". Exit the Game.
2. Open the new SaveFile with your favorite Hex Editor and go to Offset 0xBA0.
3. Edit from 0XBA0 to 0xBB0 with the following values:
Code: [Select]
02 00 00 6B 01 A9 0E BC 00 80 AE 70 00 A5 02 00
4. Save the file.
5. Open the file with Jenova and edit a value (GP,GIL,etc.)
6. Save the file, and you will get the actual scene. ;)

Hey, that's quite a nice plugin you have there.
But I have some suggestions and I came across some sort of bug.
First the bug:
When Aeris is taken by the Turks to the Shinra HQ you go to Elmyra (her mother) and then you are supposed to go to sector 6.
The Bug is, that there are two people sitting in front of the gate to sector 6.
Normally those to guys are just sitting there, when you bring Aeris to here mother, after you fell into the church.
And when I went to that church (because I couldn't get to sector 6) the scene starts, where Reno enters the church with 3 Shinra Soldiers. And I have to start over from there again.
You can pass that bug by just saving at the normal save point next to Aeris House and then load the game without FF7w.
Just wanted to inform you about this one.

Now to the suggestion.
A No Random Battle Cheat would be quite a nice thingy to add to the cheat plugin. Since I want to play the game because of the story not the annoying fighting stuff. (I already played through it without cheats. Even without materia^^)
Well if you wanna add this feature I would really thank you.
Maybe it helps you to know, that the No Random Battle for the World Map and the normal Maps are on different places in the memory. But I don't know them...

Mmmm, may be possible but I kinda feel it will mess up "Plot Battles", I am really back to Broodwar hacking with the new patch and all, so it may take a while for me to look if its a viable plugin. On the other side I was thinking in a "FF7 Iron Man" plugin, that makes battles more difficult.. What do you think?

The null damage and MP cheat doesn't seem to work.  Is that because I'm using the Ultima Edition or is it something else?

For some reason I get two black vertical bars during FMVs...they go away during actual gameplay however.  :isee:

I think someone wrote about that exact same thing somewhere else, but I can't remember where...

b_chan:  Thats becasue teh movies are trying to run in 32 bit color on a 16bit color engine in a 32 bit enviroment.. so basically, ff7 cant render 32 colros for the fmvs and it shits them up.  No fix for this, unfortunatly.

I cannot get the windower to work with windows Xp. On the smaller resolution, it opens with horizontal bars across the entire screen, then when i hit enter it says

ff7.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

On the higher resolution, i get this error straight out. Whats the deal?

You need a new computer...

Anyway, I got two new plugins. Run Patch (I just hate pressing cancel), and Limit Frenzy Plugin. Will release both of them in a couple of days.

New computer? Highly unlikely. 3.4 processor, 256 Geforce6800 gt ultra, SP2.

I can run Doom3 at 60fps, but I cant run your little patch. But its my computer, right?

Processor speeds and graphics cards determine how fast you can run a game.  Not that you can run a game.

Operating system, system-wide programs, anti-viruses, viruses, device drivers, system patches, software running under the system (SoftICE), graphics drivers, DirectX® version, etc., can all play a role in determining if a program can run.

And since these are all things that relate to each individual computer, when it comes to the question:

But its my computer, right?

The answer is, Yes, it is.
The problem is housed within the confines of the system you own and operate.

Rofl, its clear you have no idea what you're talking about. If you dont know how to fix the problem, shut the hell up and let someone who actually knows programming step in. "Its your state-of-the-art computers fault" is the equilivant of saying "I dont know what the problem is".

Yet all the signs point to it being a problem with YOUR computer.

Other people wth similar specs to yours have run it just fine, that doesn't bode well for your argument of "programming problem".

Try running old dos games in Windows XP and tell me how many run perfect without an emulator. Most likely, there will be issues. Same deal here, uber PC does not mean compatability.

Usually its the reverse, the newer the system the less backwards compattibility.

Thanks for this loader! Really helpful considering the frequency with which this game crashes for me and the relativly small number of save points  :| . Only problem I have noticed is that when I run it in windowed mode, the cursor becomes an hourglass and stays like that unless I alt+tab to another window and then alt+tab back then the cursor is fine... weird.  :?

Thanks for reviving a long-dead topic!

The cursor isn't relevant to gameplay anyway, so you could just move it off to the side of the screen where you won't notice it.

The thing is if the cursor isnt normal then i cant move around the window, and sometimes the game gets messed up when i alt+tab, like it skips cutscenes and stuff, but if i do the alt+tab right at the begginning then i dont have problems.

Is this project still active?  Does the newest version on the first post work well or does it still have the problems that people have document?

MOD EDIT: Do not post in old threads.  Topic was split from this thread (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=3905).
