Team Avalanche / Re: Treasure Chest project [WIP]
« on: 2010-11-12 08:40:58 »
I like this a lot so far.  My only :x is with the textures on the gold chest.  The metal mesh seems to be too complex in a small area making it easier to dislike than be appreciated.  I feel similarly for the gold and red textures but those aren't as noticeable.  K.I.S.S.  The rest of the chests look perfect.

I also agree with willis936

Corrected.

I do like it!

I don't like it. Make it a movie still before the game starts but keep it out of the content.

I agree.

Having the logo on the new game screen is invasive and very inelegant. Go for the FMV as suggested.  ;)

In my opinion, the flag logo does not look very good.

It reminds me of those japanese cartoons of the 80s with caricatural drawing style. To give an idea of what I mean, check this model of the flag in Yatterman here under.

I'd rather have a more elegant, sleek design but I guess you have already chosen a base to work from.

I like the first version (to the left) better. Like others have pointed out, it has a better facial expression.

Isn't the upper body too short and especially too narrow compared to the legs?  :?

In my opinion, the biggest mistake would be to remove the shadows altogether.

I agree with Tekkie.X and willis936 about reducing its size and making it lighter as being already a nice improvement.

APZ is not part of team avalanche, and i think the plan was to have one whole complete mod. Plus timu is fussy and wants a more classic looking cloud

I can but thank timu from the bottom of my heart for being "fussy".

This is actually what I dreamed when I started talking about remaking the backgrounds: a community effort.

There is a lot of talent here, guys. Thank you very much for using it towards a goal I have at heart!

Keep it up!

463
Great job, guys!

Keep it up! You have done together in few weeks what noone could do in years!

464
Excellent, Xenobond!  :-)

465
My sincere thanks to Mako and NeoCloudstrife for joining forces!

Keep it up!

1024x768 here.

You might want to run a poll actually.

467
Thank you for your update, NeoCloudstrife!

I wish you success and I hope some competent person can step in and help you with this ambitious project!

468
No news for us, NeoCloudstrife?

How is your work proceeding?  :-)

I actually think that this one is already perfect (just add the project name)!

i too have thought of that, and it would definately be an interesting addition. Perhaps making a list of changes that run through an approval process, and finall get into SL's installer

Yes, it would definitely be a good thing.

timu sumisu,

thanks a lot for explaining the procedure to me. Sounds indeed very complex and time consuming (both methods) unfortunately.

sl1982,

has aaronlite by any chance manage to complete one 2D background using Photoshop in order to evaluate the final result? It seems to me that there is no way to find any shortcuts for this kind of work and anything that might possibly work is going to take very long time. The only hope is finding a method that gives decent results and at the same time is easy enough to be worked on by a good number of collaborators that do not require specific skills.

Unfortunately he has decided to work on other aspects of the game due to the sheer amount of work in redoing just one background.

Here is an image of what he managed to get done.

Impressive result!

It'd be good to get back in touch with him and ask how long it took him to do that background and then make a rough esteem of how many backgrounds there are in the game. If it's just a matter of work load, this project could be spread among us who'd volunteer. Of course if it requires much skill, I'd be out of it already.

Excellent work.

I prefer the colour map though. I honestly can't say whether I am or not a purist. I like to mantain the traditional look of the FF VII game in practically every aspect but on the other hand I am open to modifications to the game, if they are an improvement.
