Releases / Replacement FMVs for FFVII
« on: 2009-05-13 18:46:17 »
True I'm working on all the ones already released plus a few more, But they are so big it takes longer to process them.
I really don't know about the bug, I don't experience it, however you could download super for free and reencode them with a different setting. I used Avi with Xvid and mp3.

I just tried 0.5 and it is great. Just to see I put in the unedited CC secret ending at full resolution(1080x720) for my opening and wow it played perfect just as promised. I noticed some custom models are missing pieces. I remember this was discussed a few pages back being something about lighting or full alpha, Is their anyway to make those missing pieces visible in 0.6.

Sorry Faust I wasn't try to attack the compendiums honor, so thanks for setting me straight. I thought that because in reading through the threads you posted CE is referred to as a ROM Hack and a game. Both of which made me think it was a rom that would be distributed. In any event with the rampant availability of hacked 8 & 16 bit roms it wouldn't have been long before someone uploaded a modded CT rom entitled CE. Maybe if it was referred to as a Patch or Mod SE would have taken less notice.

To be in the same boat as these people we would have to do one of two things.

1. Release a mod for FFVII included with the game. i.e. An install disc already modded, plus the other three discs already modded(with videos etc.) Which is totally against what this forum stands for as a community.

or

2. Try and completely remake FFVII with PS3 graphics, and then release it as an original game made by so and so.

We don't do those things here, we make mods that take some level of originality and creativity to create. As well as owning an original copy of FFVII PC to personally mod( if you don't you should admit to it and the moderators should ban your IP address).

The Modders at Chrono Compendium were taking a ROM of a game(which is owned by SE and most likely downloaded from the net) opening it, modifying it, and then redistributing the ROM that SE owns.

Understanding why they got a C&D isn't difficult.

I've decided to keep these vids as is, although I will add an ending1 soon. Also expect a HQ release for use with Aali's custom driver in the next two weeks.

On another note, I've got a question. Since the scene with Zack in the truck isn't a movie it seems impossible to replace, but is there any way? No matter how difficult. Couldn't we edit the game in such a way that when it looks for the normal scene it is redirected to a new video and then when it's done sent to the ending of the scene. any help would be appreciated.

Once school wraps up and I get all my students grades turned in I plan to spend time doing some of the missing models. Of course first I've gotta get 1280x960 vids finished for use with Aali's open driver. But working on the missing NPCs is my next priority. I'll post my work in no more than a month. In other words I would like to join this project.

I made a pretty good Start Menu using your Buster Sword http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i59/apz_freak/StartScreen.jpg. I've been using it for a couple of months now. Can I release it? If so I'll only include the .tex file with a read me on how to install it. I would like to put it on my vid thread, and call it APZ New Buster Menu or something like that. If you would like to release it on your thread I'll send you the file and read me. Ultimately the choice is yours.

Your situation is totally understandable. Few people realize the commitment and time it takes to do well in studio art classes. I went through it getting my BFA and MFA, but now I seem to have less time a teacher. However you should never feel pressured to do the work your passionate about or you will loose that passion. Take your time do it well, and do it your way. The rest of us can wait. ( I still really want the update ) Your work so far makes you one of the elite modders and faithful fans.

Aali: Can you let me know what program you used to convert that Futurama video to use the TM2.0 codec. I've checked all my software and nothing encodes with that.

485
Great news and I'll start up again this coming weekend. If I finish editing higher qualities(1280x960) before 0.5 I'll try and do'em using TM2.0. Either way add as may codecs as possible.

Aali
So I'm wondering about adding videos of any resolution. I had to use 340x224 to match my vids to original resolution, but I experimented with larger multiples and all that displayed was the top left 340x224 pixels. However if I understand you correctly the larger multiples will be shown full screen. If that's true I've got work to do.

General Discussion / FFVII Fan Games
« on: 2009-05-04 22:45:07 »
Searching the net I've only found two FFVII fan games, The Dark Cloud and Avalanche. There is the FFVII NES port which is now in English. Anyone found any others?

The Dark Cloud link  http://www.megagames.com/news/show.cgi?&idtype=freegames&database=397&section=downloads&

The count stands at four. Other links follow.

I actually did use the 1080p vids. However i edited in FLASH MX which is outdated, but has the convenience of layers. When I exported the new vids  to AVI the quality was greatly reduced. I may reedit them with Adobe Premiere CS4 if a friend will let me use his computer for a few hours, but it's doubtful. Anyway you could use an old tube tv as a second monitor if your video card supports that and then lower quality really isn't noticeable.

That video is wicked sick. Think it can be used to replace the Eidos logo?

490
I downloaded it and extracted the battle and yes it is the same(new enemy models not included). Probably why it's still called beta. If you don't already have this get it. I really can't wait for the actual release though, the new enemy models rock.

I edited the vids in flash mx which gives you great control over frame rates. Like I said these all work in game for me. I'll go ahead and get a link up soon.

Remastered Replacement FMVs for FFVII

After almost 8 years I have finally gotten around to fully updating my videos using the highest quality AC(480p), ACC(1080p) and CC(1080p) sources available. I've remade every video from the ground up at the proper aspect ratio of 1280X896 and encoded everything with a high bitrate setting(generally 8000 kbps and higher) to eliminate any artifacting caused by encoding. When any original game footage was needed I used the Remastered FMV's by cmh175. Here is a breakdown of what videos are included and any notable changes.

opening - A higher quality version of the PS3 tech demo was used and the audio was corrected to remove some small clicks near the end.
canon - ACC
canonh3f - ACC
earithdd - higher quality version of hybridmoon's video was used and new ACC footage used when able.
funeral - same as above
ending3 - ACC footage
jenova_e - AC, ACC, CC footage.
meteofix - AC
nivlsfs - ACC
ontrain - 1080p remake trailer footage.

A few notes. The ontrain video has 2 versions included. One that is short like the original and a longer version inspired the one at the end of Tsunamix's Ehco-S demo. Also I had to use the AC 480p footage for both meteofix and jenova's reveal because those scenes had been cut and or extremely shortened in the ACC version making them unusable. I've also included the much higher quality Eidos logo opening from Team Avalanche because it doesn't seem to be very commonly known of at the moment and a sqlogo replacement that is a cool clip video of the compilation.

Enhanced Replacement FMVs from Toshiba DVD

So anyone that doesn't know once upon a time a few of the FFVII FMVs where rendered at a higher quality and released on a DVD to be encluded with a Toshiba computer. Full story over at TLS https://thelifestream.net/review-the-toshiba-ffvii-dvd/ So after waiting for a number of years for someone else to make a set using this footage I decided to do it myself since I was redoing my previous videos. A few videos have been made by DLPB using this footage. Most notably the opening, so I won't be including any of those videos. I will show a few comparison shots of the same frames from the Remastered FMV's by cmh175 and the Toshiba DVD versions by me. I will go ahead and say that after color correcting the videos, cropping, enlarging and filtering the videos you get about 5-10% more visual information. There is an improvement in sharpness of lines and small details but at the loss of some smoothness. However for a modder like me that is a fair trade. I want the most out of all aspects of my game even if there are a few concessions. I also used the  Remastered FMV's by cmh175 to fill in any gapes not included in the Toshiba DVD footage. I ended up making 19 replacements out of the available footage. Here are the comparison shots.

No Chibi Replacement FMVs Corrected

In addition to Remastering my original videos and working on the Toshiba DVD videos I tackled correcting the No Chibi FMVs by DrLilo. The original videos had varying sizes and fps which caused some issues(like a softlock for me at parashot). Another issue is that they were made back when the psx resized videos by dlpb were the best available, but now the 2012 resizes have surpassed those. So, I started with a base of the Remastered FMV's by cmh175 and remade each video to a proper size, fps and runtime. These videos also use any Toshiba DVD footage that was available. These videos will play 100% properly without any flevel patches unlike the original versions.

Original Post

I decided to edit together some new videos using some of the available footage from AC and CC. So far I've finished Midgar canon firing, Rufus shot by Diamond, Nanaki's ending, Aerith's funeral, Meteor from space, Sephiroth Discovers Jenova(CC with voice), and another new opening(CC & tech demo with voice). These all work 100% on my machine and should be usable right away for anyone that plays fmvs from hdd.

Original Quality Vids (320x224): not available. You can resize the higher quality ones if you need them for some reason

A great many thanks go out to Otokoshi for the most excellent Opening logo(without tech demo script). seriously your opening is awesome and I think it far better than mine. also the reason I didn't include the sephiroth in flames, Otokoshi's is definitive. If you don't already have them go here.

It's not to old the steps are still correct. I just did this last weekend (3/3/09) and it works fine. You just have to run everything as an admin. and make sure any files that end up in the virtual store make it into the real progam files.

495
I always ran in to this exact problem -"When I click patch, an error appears, and says "File not exist or write protected. Search for the file?"
I click OK to search for ff7.exe, and it still does the same error and the patch fails." I have recently attempted to download the patch again and my anti-virus auto detects a "generic.dx(trojan)" inside of the patch and deletes the file. I never have been able to get the high res patch to work, but I just keep playing in full screne mode and enjoying my favorite game.

My bad that was not the last version of NPC RP. Now it's up and running but Vistas compatability files were a nightmare to figure out. :-D

Thanks patience truelly is a virtue. I got the char extracted and patched with the NPC patch and successfully repacked, the game runs fine still and the non playable characters in the game have been upgraded. Now how do I get my party characters to look the same I was under the impression this pactch also modded them.

I just got my official ff7 pc game off ebay did the max install and the game plays great. I decided to try the mods i saw on youtube and hit a snag. Seems I can't get an extraction tool that actual works. I want to use the NPC patch or the Reunion patch but  lgptools has  weird shell directory errors and highwind just starts not responding and doesn't go any further. Please help me to extract my char files, maybe there is a protection on official versions not on the bootlegs. I'm using a new dual core pc running vista so my machine is sound I just need a better extraction program or better tutorials for the others.
