ff7.exe still runs after quitting
« on: 2007-10-11 14:53:43 »
Hello!

I would like to know if this happens to you too. On my game, there are few mods, among them The_Saint's High Res patch which, as you all know, modifies the .exe file.

Might this be the reason?

After quitting the game I must CTRL-ALT-DEL to have the ff7.exe closed manually.

Thanks!

The same thing happens to me. You can't open any new apps until you use task manager to terminate it.

Same for me too, but I'm just glad all the mods work for me.  :-D

I used to get this problem with compatibility mode enabled.

I am actually running the game in Windows95 compatibility mode though I can't be sure of the real benefits that this brings. Still, being a game made for Windows95 and having it crashed (although only once) before when it was not running in compatible mode, I think it's still worth to just manually terminate the .exe file to keep the W95 mode on.

I had this problem too before I cleaned and re-installed Windows XP,
so I think that it could be a problem with Windows files and that stuff.

In a relatively "clean" PC this problem shouldn't exist (I guess).

I can confirm that this problem exist on my computer when compatibility mode (95 or 98) is enabled.

Then at this point I really need to ask: does having compatibility mode on help at all?  8-) I have always used it in the assumption of it should increase compatibility/reduce amount of crashes, but can anybody else confirm it?

It's useful if you encounter the world map bug. For some people it can take up to a minute to load the world map and ff7.exe can consume about 256 MB of memory. Turning on compatibility mode fixes this, however apart from this I'm not sure how else it helps.

I can confirm this is also happening to me.  I have a clean install of winXP.  The 1.02 exe has been patched for no cd Im not sure if that matters.

If I do not enable win98 compatibility mode, every time i try and go to the menu, the game will crash.

Must be a simple issue to fix... it is kind of annoying...

Do you just realize you did a 5 year necro-post? This doesn't need further confirmation and if you have additional issues you should make a new topic.
