Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for :)

Hi. The reason I create this topic here is there are many skilled coders here, and I'm sure there is a bunch of fans of this great JRPG among them.

So, I have came across a japanese PC-version of Lunar recently, and was very interested in it. It is pretty much playable on modern PC's, and I was very surprised that such a big fandom gave so little attention to it. It is still quite hard to find it on the internet (I have found only a japanese version, but there is also a later korean localisation, which may cantain some fixes). The PC version has slightly better graphics than PSX version, and definately much more opportunities in modding than any other version (just like in case of FFVII). However it looks like no one have ever done anything to resources of this game. No fix-patches, no english translation, no mods, etc.

Eventually I have decided to delve into the resources of the game, and of cource run into a problem. Since there is no modding community, no tutorials, no tools, I just have no idea how to unpack the resources. There is only one file that looks like a pack of game data called lunadata.fil. I have opened it with WinHex and, as far as I understand, it contains a lot of interesting stuff like maps and text dialogs, but, as I already said, I have no idea how to unpack it. Perhaps someone can give me a clue?

What advantages/disadvantages does the SE's driver have in comparison to Aali's driver (except modding)? Is there a list of fixes/improvments of their 2012 release since the 1.02 patch?

4
Is this it?
ff7102 patch
Yeah, that is exactly what I have. But I guess there used to be kinda installer or self-extracting archive aswell.
From readme.txt:

Instructions:

By default this patch will extract to the Desktop.

You are talking about the old version? Can you please post the link for the update patch because I too seem to have forgotten which one is that...

Well... I found this ff7_1.02.zip (Official 1.02 Patch) in Tifa's Package thread but the link seems to not be working.

I believe I saw it on eidos.com a few years ago, but it redirects to SE official website now. I have even written to SE tech support yesterday searching for the patch, and here what they've answered me:

Dear Thug,

 Thank you for contacting the Square Enix Support Centre.

 We are very sorry to inform you that the Official Patches for Final Fantasy VII 1998, PC version are not more available.

 We apologize for the inconvenience.

 Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you need more information.
 Kind regards,

 The Square Enix Support Centre team

Sad, but SE no longer supports their old PC version release.

Providing it's legal I don't mind uploading it to my drive for everyone to use. I have a store of pretty much every ff7 mod I've ever used haha
That would be great. That thing should be widely available.

I notice there is a config file for FF7 and not FF8 when installing the driver. Do I just copy  the driver files into the directory and launch with no need for any special config file?
Look for ff8_opengl.cfg, it must be there.

7
Klaw117, do you have vertical synchronization enabled?
# vsync must be enabled and working for this to have any effect

# check your driver settings if this option doesn't seem to work
enable_vsync = yes

You can also set refreshrate for fullscreen mode in ff7_opengl.cfg by adding refresh_rate = ## (make sure your monitor supports the rate you set).

8
metastigmat, You can't find this?
Quote
window_size_x = 1024
window_size_y = 768
preserve_aspect = yes
fullscreen = yes

9
refresh_rate works fine, thank you :) Looks like you forgot to include this option into ff7_opengl.cfg.
Sadly, an annoying screensaver still pops up during the gameplay :-P

10
Actually no, I haven't noticed any difference. But it must stand for something anyway. Can I open that rcktoff.cam with something? Just curious what is it.

11
You mean the one inside moviecam.lgp? I've opened it and yeah, there is no rcketoff.cam, but there is rcktoff.cam. I have fixed it by renaming it and using the direct mode. But how could this happen? Developers' mistake?

12
I get this error when the rocket takes off:
Code: [Select]
ERROR: failed to find file moviecam/rcketoff.cam (LGP) (path: )But the direct mode is disebled. Why is this happening?

13
2Aali: I have tried the game on another graphics card (previously - GeForce 8800 GTS, now - Radeon X1900 GT), but the screensaver still pops up.

2Stoopid-Dood: use this tag
Code: [Select]

The latest Nvidia drivers are 260.99, maybe you should try them out.

Can anybody confirm/disconfirm the wind.wav error at start of The Great Glacier snowboarding minigame with the save file I have provided earlier?

15
As I understood it, he wants a framelimiter that isn't based on vsync. Apparently he still gets his 85hz.

That app.log link is a 404 and the wind.wav bug has been fixed since 0.7.8b.
Some posts later he tells that in fullscreen  mode the game always runs in 60Hz no matter what. He avoided 60Hz by playing in window mode instead of switching to 85Hz every time. So I'm sure Kein has exactly the same problem as me.

Strange, must be a glitch of the hosting server or something else.  It's a direct link, just rightclick and save as... Looks like it isn't related to your driver since I don't hear this sound in game with original renderers either. But it's a bug anyway since the file is OK.

16
Have encountered an ERROR: could not open file .\Data\music\wind.wav
This happens at start of the snowboarding minigame right before The Great Glacier. I know, many people had been complaining about this file, so... Just in case: here are APP.LOG and the save file.

BTW, I have searched the forum and found out that I'm not the only one with the refresh rate problem.

17
Its odd that your screensaver still kicks in, its really not supposed to.
Looks like It doesn't kick in if I play on keybord, but it skill kicks in when I play on my  gamepad or when I don't perform any actions.

Have you tried turning off v-sync? Since v-sync is tied to fps and the game has a framelimiter at 60fps.
Yeah, I have experimented. As pyrozen said, it doesn't work that way.

Next version will have a config option that lets you set the desired refresh rate.
Great, will be waiting :)

18
That your monitor goes to 60hz is unfortunately out of my control. I dont set the refresh rate anywhere.
I suppose the game sets 60Hz on any monitor, not only mine, it's just not noticeable on LCD's. But you can check it by setting refresh rate other than 60Hz and then running FF7 in fullscreen mode and visiting some minigame with V-sync and fps counter on. And that is the issue of the original game, not your driver, if you thought so.

19
DLPB, I'm not complaining about FPS, it's fine. The thing is, I have a CRT monitor, and it produces an irritating flicker at 60Hz, and the picture also deforms on edges. I hate it, so I have to switch to monitor settings and set 85Hz every time I run the game, and it looks fine then! The only problem is a little bit too fast fps in minigames, which becomes 42.5 with the driver's frame limiter enabled.
--------
Updated: have noticed a glitch. Some odd-looking stripes (how do you call them btw?) have appeared in the menues. It's ok on 0.7.8b with the same configuration file.

Prevented screensavers and sleep/suspend from activating while the game is running.
Strange, I still get a screensaver activated during the gameplay.

20
Well, I suggest to add monitor refresh rate configuration, 'cause 60Hz is not cool.
I wrote about this in the previous thread.
Thx for fixing screensavers problem!

Hello. Thanks for the great driver for the great game :) Yet I need some help.

I prefer my monitor to work in 85Hz mode, but the game always starts with 60Hz, despite it is setted 85 in dxdiag settings. So I have to switch to monitor settings and set 85Hz manually every time I start the game. It's inconvenient...

Also, is there an another way to get 30 fps in minigames than calculating it by halving the refresh rate value?
