hi qhimm forums
does anyone know how to change ff8 pc music to mp3
-
Mp3 won't help you because it won't loop... so it would end in game and then start again from beginning and not sound right.
What is needed in VIII is ogg loop or psf.
-
I disagree with you on that though. What would really be good would be an open-source tool to be able to view and modifiate SGTs for FF8. Also extract its MIDI if possible. I know there are tools out there for SGTs but they all cost money. It is kinda annoying when you want to check this out.
-
Hi DLPB and Vgr,
i have found a way to convert the SGT's to WAV. :D
-
UGerstl. You know that people like DLPB will read this post, so no need to send it in PM AS WELL.
Anyway, this is something that can be done (I thought about it once, recording then looping it) but I'd like to know how you did.
-
@Vgr: Another one punches into my face ... Thanks
You know that people like DLPB will read this post, so no need to send it in PM AS WELL.
- This is the way how i work, accept it or ignore the PM's/E-mail's i send.
- This is not a thread of DLPB, so he could miss my posting.
- I write a documentation how i have done it, when i am totally satisfied
with the result and when the converting is done.

I found these:
mp3.rar Phun FF8 Music as MP3 Qhimm (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8734.msg110250#msg110250) FILE (http://www.mediafire.com/?6wv4nd4c2qceqwc)
Music ALPHA.rar Phun FF8 Music as MP3 Qhimm (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8734.msg110250#msg110250) FILE (http://www.mediafire.com/?c7a6ym1780x88l9)
-
I did read :) But I have no interest any anything other than FF8 official OST Uncompressed being made into Ogg, perhaps with a few extra from the orchestra editions.
8-)

Whilst this might be the way you prefer to do things, you have to appreciate that some members find regular PMs a tad annoying. I'd recommend sticking to forum posts unless there's something that's directed to a single person alone.

The question is, Are the sound files better sounding then MIDI?
-
I disabled PM's from everyone but those that can help my projects and so forth. It works wonders.
-
@Hellbringer616: As i started to convert the SGT sound files, i compared the result
of a WAV file with a MIDI file. The MIDI file sounds like crap.
@DLPB: I know. :'(
Update : I have found a better way of recording ( Stereo + Reverb ).
Expect a complete update of all files soon.
-
Stereo & Reverb update completed.
-
the Stereo with reverb sounds amazing.
-
What bitrate/compression settings did you use for the OGG and MP3 encodes?
-
@Hellbringer616: Yes, indeed. ;D
@Covarr: OGG : Best quality = ~500 kbps, q10.0
MP3 : Best quality = 320 kbps CBR
FLAC : level 5
-
tbh for a game that is overkill. If distributing lossless, frac, if not MP3 or ogg VBR best quality.
-
@DLPB: It's for the sound fans, like me. ;)
Do you want another compression rate ?
-
Nah, I have some nice MP3's here already 8) and I am willing to bet that you and 99.999% of everyone else couldn't tell the difference between them and the uncompressed.

(Stereo & Reverb).wav sounds the best :)

You're right there, I listen to my FLAC music, and my dad doesn't hear the difference. But i certainly do :D
-
Flac is lossless though?
-
Wow i loved some of the ff8 music as i hardly played this for a long time anyway for me to use some on ff7? only a few, also loved the victory theme
-
Yeah, FLAC is lossless, how i get my FLAC files is i rip them from my CD's using EAC.

Sorry to necro post but I have a question/comment
I downloaded the stereo/reverb and they sound great. But I cant seem to get them to work in my game...now I wonder if they were ever meant to be played in the game I moved out the MIDI files and put the .wav in But that doesn't work and I am sure it is for some obvious reason that I am unaware of.
Anyways thanks for any help and sorry again.
-
Hello,
The download links are all not working, could somebody please upload the Stereo & Reverb .WAVs ?
Thanks.
-
I will be looking to make FF8 ogg's from uncompressed FF8 OST like I did for Anxious Heart. But ONLY if I get verification from Aali that he plans to add this to his driver at some point.
There is no way I am starting a project like this for nothing.
-
Sorry for the necro, but my search hasn't found me anything. Is there someone who could PLEASE upload or point me to a link where I could download the FF8 FLAC's or other lossless formats (anything that would be like the PS2 version would be good, as the PC version's audio is crap).
Thank You!
-
To do so would be illegal. Sorry :)
-
How so, when there are links on the first page of this thread, but they are dead.
I understand it is quite a common thing that everyone does with their PC version of FFVII,
