Template, you totally have my sympathies and need not feel selfish for it. (I have to admit this thread got so long-winded that I missed your post the first time around -- since Opine is the only one who properly responded to it I assume I'm not alone). I'm pleased to hear that your dad's case is presenting hope for himself and future patients. I'd recently wondered the viability and effectiveness of transferring or replicating extraordinary T-cells -- sort of like an immune system transplant. Keep us (or me, at least) updated on both your dad's condition and the treatment's development.

1. Why are maxed chocobo stats still lower than champion Joe's?
2. When I clear a save slot, instead of an empty slot it creates one with all zero values, a party of three Clouds, and an all-black background (I'm using the default blue gradient). If necessary, I can provide pictures when I get home.
3. A system to manipulate the number of Battle Points a player has earned, like the GP system, would be nice, but I guess not particularly helpful until someone makes a patch that retains those points after leaving the arena.
4. A little control over the random rewards of chocobo races would also be great, but that's probably not within the realm of a save editor so much as a kernel editor or something.

If you have valid scientific proof that Rife's machines and methods work, it needs to see the light of day. Maybe mainstream publication will deny it, but one of the double-edged wonders of the internet is the ease of leaking information that somebody with a dollar to gain wants to keep down.
I also suggest submitting it to the James Randi Educational Foundation. If it qualifies for their challenge of homeopathy (I don't know what specific alternative medicines were addressed in their recent announcement), there could be a million dollars in it, which could be infinitely helpful to propagate the knowledge and use, as well as get some licensing to stop all the fraudulent "Rife machines" that've been in circulation.
As a skeptic, I'd love to see this scientifically proven true, but remain merely intrigued until then.

Would it be difficult to include a field location for the Highwind's operation room? I'm guessing it would require also establishing where the Highwind is located.

Other ideas:
- Some guidelines to the Game Progress modifier to help indicate what number value corresponds to what missions. Or at least some "Replay mission" missions from discs 2 and 3.
- A "played Tifa's piano" toggle in Other, establishing whether or not you played the proper melody in the flashback to earn her limit break in disc 2. Unless I'm misinformed and it doesn't actually matter if you've ever played the piano before in order to get that item.
- Checking and unchecking Sephiroth or Young Cloud should automatically change the names to and from Vincent and Cait Sith, or whatever the player has named them. I've also seen it retain equipment (and maybe stats, but I'm not sure of that) from Seph or Cloud after unchecking them.
- A "None" option under the character's equipped accessory.

General Discussion / Re: Wanting a Tattoo
« on: 2011-07-31 01:07:10 »
not your basic decision to make, nor influence.

he asked for a little help finding a good image to use, not whether or not he should get the tattoo.

Seconded.

Korren, if you're still bothering to read this, are you looking only for someone to make you a tribal meteor design, or are you taking other suggestions, with parameters: looks like a cool tattoo, but to the fandom is a recognizable a ff7 reference?

If you are facing these issues on a personal basis, then I suggest consulting with actual oncologists and reading textbooks on the subject.  Also, seek psychological counseling.  When the fate of a loved one, or yourself if you mean a really personal basis, hangs by a thread for an extended period of time, it will eat you alive every waking moment without help.

Will do you better than polling the public.

My two cents, since you asked for them:
1. Medicine is made to cure or treat illness. The pharmaceutical industry relies on that necessity to overcharge for drugs, but medicine won't make it to market, or won't be recommended by anyone's doctor, if it doesn't have at least some credible proof of efficacy. Health care is a business that will always be in demand, so there's no reason to create false business by distributing weaker drugs or making up diseases just so you can sell sugar pills for it. Even if you did, another company would just release a legitimate one and drum you out of business.
2. Like all charities, it depends who you're dealing with. When at all possible, it's advisable to donate money directly to the source you want to receive the funding, or as close as you can get.
3. Since cancer comes in so many flavors, I doubt there's any one overarching "cure for cancer." I don't see any reason to cover up a cure for cancer -- there is a lot more to be gained, even money for the heartless businesses, by releasing such a thing. I'm very curious what reasoning anyone's giving to that theory. However, while curing cancer is out of grasp, treating cancer has improved remarkably. Again, there's a lot of variety so it depends on the details of each situation, but it's not generally a big scary death sentence like it used to be.

My father is a family physician with whom I have worked very closely, so I feel confident in saying that there are flaws to the system, mostly in costs and anything to do with for-profit health insurance, but the products of modern medicine are designed to heal you.

Also, when naming chocobos, the text I input appears several spaces to the right of the underscores provided to indicate the character limit. I haven't checked yet to see if this is true of other character naming events.

I just checked, the rest of the character name inputs are working fine for me. Weird that they'd have something different for chocobos, but what do I know?

Wouldn't it be easier to unpack the vanilla char.lgp into a folder 'char'.
Then unpack the 00.lgp into another folder 'prpchar'.
Then cut all the files in 'prpchar' and paste them into 'char' and choose SKIP for all files that already exist.
Then all the files left in 'prpchar' would correspond to files in the original char.lgp.
You still have to go through and load every model .hrc file left in 'prpchar' to make sure there aren't any missing parts.
Then just repeat the process for all the .lgp archives in 00.lgp and 01.lgp.

Yeah, that'd just about do it, with the exception of a couple areas where PRP has an additional file called aaaa2 (made up example, I'm pretty sure aaaa was not one of the ones for which this was the case) or something. And you'd also have to either have several copies of the files from 00 and 01, or unpack them repeatedly, which might eat up a little time and memory, but your method probably saves more time than that would add. Good thinking.

I've already done the legwork, I'm just trying to find out if there's a way I can save others that trouble.

I don't condone any drugs, and personally I don't even drink alcohol. I'm aware of the direct and indirect risks to my health and well-being and I choose to avoid them. I wish more people would do the same.

But it isn't government's job to protect us from our own stupid decisions. Lighting a stick of tar and posion on fire, sticking it in your mouth and deeply inhaling the smoke, for example, is a very stupid decision, but unless you're exposing unwilling other people to it, or your use of it is impeding someone else's well being, you'll simply reap the consequences of your own actions.

The government could still protect us from other people's stupid decisions, though. On that scale, I've seen far less need for control of marijuana than of tobacco, or especially of alcohol. Then again, if marijuana use became as common as tobacco, I'm sure we could all worry about the second-hand smoke - and yes, smoking marijuana alone is still bad enough for your respiratory system to be a concern, even if it's not as bad as tobacco (about which studies conflict, probably largely due to the agenda of the people backing and/or conducting each study).

Here in the good old US of A (a phrase I use with more than a little sarcasm), outlawing irresponsible use and behavior seems no more or less effective a deterrent of that behavior than outlawing the substance itself. Even a fairly accurate (results may vary in your district) anti-drug education system seems to have little impact, as most of the people who were in my very same classes have gone on to make the decisions we were warned against. People accuse health education of lying at least as much as the drug proponents in the first place. My classes were a little overboard, to be certain, but mostly correct. The best we can do is try to eliminate the misinformation, which you can see from this thread alone is abound on all sides.

There are few options remaining. I would discourage the death penalty because we have more than the occasional wrongful conviction (results may vary in your state), and even with overwhelming evidence of innocence it's nearly impossible to reverse a death sentence. We could try even harder to keep drug industry advertisements from encouraging poor behavior, but freedom of speech protects even those who deliberately distribute misinformation en masse. I guess we could penalize doing such for profit. Most of the cultural encouragement to do drugs is more subtle and psychological than outright lying to you, though.

So the government does the same thing I do -- we shrug our shoulders, encourage proper education and responsible behavior, hope people make better decisions, and deal with the idiot fallout in the meantime. The revolution must be in cultural mindset, not legislation.

Don't blame China, anywhere that has parents is bound to have its share of terrible parents. And anywhere that has internet gaming has its share of ridiculous gaming addicts.

The Remix does a tremendous job of sorting through the PRP models.

I started looking into this in the first place because the Menu Overhaul Project seems to conflict, at least on my machine, with the Remix, so I installed all the mods included in the Remix individually. All the ones I wanted, anyway. I'm still a little hung up on specifically which weapon mods were used and where to find them.

After looking at this I wasn't sure how I would even go about placing the files in their correct lgp counterparts... How did you do it?

I unpacked the original lgps from a fresh install in one set of folders, then created a new set of folders to sort the PRP files into. Then I looked at the contents of the originals, hunted them down amidst the thousands of files unpacked from 00 and 01, and put them in corresponding folders. This method was effective for the lgps with 100 or fewer files in them. For the lgps with 400 to multiple thousands of files, I did it backwards: I went one by one through the files from 00 and 01 and ran a search through my folders of original files to determine which lgp they belonged in. Fortunately the filenames follow some consistent patterns, so after getting the hang of those it went more quickly, since I wasn't running a search for every single file.

So this is why I posted here, because that took a lot of time and it would be helpful for other people who want to use these mods without using the PRP installer if there was a distribution of just the files they want, already sorted out for them. (Though I far from guarantee my sort is flawless). But I'm not about to distribute someone else's work, even covered with proper documentation that gives them sole credit, without being absolutely certain they're cool with it.

I figured it'd come down to knowing and interpreting the original Japanese, but thought I'd check anyway. It's never made sense to me that Cid has that dragon limit break anyway.

13
Going over this list (which is fantastic, btw), I had one idea. Could Cid's "Dragon Mod" limit break perhaps be "Dragon Mode"?

General Discussion / Re: Day and night mode FFVII.
« on: 2011-07-27 03:07:34 »
I was actually wondering about this same idea the other day, even just so little as changing the world map from night to day on any kind of timed basis. I don't know that it'd really be that interesting unless you made gameplay change depending on time of day (different monsters, different events/dialogues, whatever), and I bet that's more work than anyone's interested in doing. Certainly more than I'd try to tackle alone, even if I knew how.

In the menu, "Arrange"-ing my materia puts them in a different order now (Red, Purple, Green, Blue, Yellow) than it used to (Green, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Red). Is this a result of MOP, or should I look over everything else I've added (mostly in battle.lgp and char.lgp, so I don't see how they'd affect the menu).

Also, when naming chocobos, the text I input appears several spaces to the right of the underscores provided to indicate the character limit. I haven't checked yet to see if this is true of other character naming events.

Distributing LGP's is not allowed.

Question answered. Out of curiosity, why is that?

As I understand it once you have 01 and 00 lgps you can just save those on your HD and use them to reinstall PRP on a fresh ff7 build anytime. No need for the installer ever again, no?

...So I just always use 01.lgp and 00.lgp without unpacking them at all and simply changing the filenames.

True enough, and that's basically what I'm doing.

I'm wary about just changing the filenames, because 00.lgp contains the contents of both char.lgp and chocobo.lgp, and 01.lgp contains almost all the others (except for battle.lgp, magic.lgp, flevel.lgp, and midi.lgp, I believe). This may not lead to any gameplay errors but it seems at least a little inefficient to me. Why have thousands of unneeded files in your char.lgp (though it's probably a negligible filesize concern -- like I said, just thinking about efficiency)? Not to mention I don't know how many of the other .lgps' files are actually identical to the originals -- as far as I can tell PRP doesn't make any changes to the minigames, movies, or disc related stuff.

But whatever. I'm pretty clueless as to how most of this stuff works so who am I to make any of these judgments in the first place?

In order to get the PRP models into my regular .exe instead of whatever crap that installer was trying to do, I copied 00.LGP and 01.LGP, unpacked them, and sorted out all the contained files into the corresponding .lgp files from a regular install.
Would it be bad form for me to post these reorganized .lgps? Obviously I take no credit for the models (and whatever other modifications) contained therein, I just thought other people might like to have a char.lgp they could copy and paste into their own data folder rather than rely on the installer's cooperation.
Please advise.

I specifically said before that you must test without ANYTHING else being installed....  clearly remix has done something...

My bad. (total noob).

Now to learn how to install the missing remix goodies (PRP models, and... wait, I guess that's it) without using remix.

I'm still having the same problem I did with M002 -- When any dialogue box is about to appear in the field, I get the "Oops! Something very bad happened" error and the game dies.

I did a fresh installation, in this order:
FF7 duh
FF7 Remix 2.5.1
Aali's driver 0.7.11b
Menu Overhaul M003

For what it's worth, I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on a Macbook Pro.

I've uploaded a zip containing my exe, app log, opengl config, and crash.dmp. Please see if you can find a source to this problem.

It cannot be changed. It would take ages to do what you want with very little benefit.  Just use scroll buttons.

Consider me "over it."

I mean that the Summon battle menu does this:

Even though the Magic battle menu can do this:

If I want to use KoR, I have to scroll through the entire Summon menu, even if it's the only red materia equipped to that character.

Would this be the appropriate place to request that summons get listed straight from the top of their menu regardless of which ones they are, instead of spaced out so each summon goes in a specific line? Or is that already covered (here or elsewhere)?

23
I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this or not, but in my copy, in the Other tab, under Visible In PHS, Vincent and Caith Sith are reversed -- selecting one in BC enables the other in-game. Should be easy enough to fix.

24
Yeah, I guess that'll do. I typically prefer patching/modifying the original .exe over running it through a trainer or something, but I'm only likely to use this occasionally for difficult mini-games with high incentives or testing a new mod.

25
Pardon me for being a little out of the loop, but is there overlap between FL's and magochocobo's packs? In other words, do they both have new versions of any or all of the battle maps?
