I don't think there's one unless it's something very old(and outdated?), but the original release works under Win10 with FFNx(well, the game runs without custom driver anyway).  I just can't make mods with 7th Heaven 3.x working...

Install Box86 and Wine(x86) on Pi OS then run the game through them?  I don't know if the game itself(unmodded, I mean) will play at decent framerate for I haven't tried that.

General Discussion / Re: Do you think it's pointless?

There is really no reason to have the steam version if you already have the disc version. If you want to have a modded and vanilla copy on your computer it not to hard todo since . Either way you need to have ffnx installed. All my mods are installed as "direct" mods so you only have to change the mode in the config to get back to vanilla. Im guessing you would want to use something like 7thHeaven and im not mistaken you can just toggle mods on and off before running with that tool.
My problem: https://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=21330.0

Sharing registry, that's what I'm afraid for.

..that installing disc version and steam version in the same computer?  I once thought of installing TES4:Oblivion disc version and digital versions(steam, GOG...) in the same computer, but looks like it's pointless especially if you want separate saves, mod lists and so on.  For FF7, I want to see if applying mods would work with steam version(I'm having trouble with mods and now end of my wits).

7
They are.  I installed mods via 7th Heaven.  I said kernel edit and FMV replacement work, but not model/texture replacers.

8
sorry but how do I install it?
Haven't tried it yet, but if you have installed FFNx and 7th Heaven, extracting files under (your game)\direct\flevel would work, maybe.

Couple of months ago, my 5-year-old desktop died after suffering sudden crashes for days.  I rebuilt a new desktop(Ryzen 5600X + ASUS Prime X570 Pro + GeForce RTX 3060 Ti + 32GB RAM + 512GB nvme + 1TB SATA SSD + 4TB HDD(I thought I bought Ultrastar)), installed the game(NOT steam, it's a good old one), installed the latest stable versions of FFNx and 7th Heaven, and downloaded some mods through the mod manager.  After setting mod order and click 'play', I found out graphic replacers don't work.

So far:
- Kernel edit like 'Modern spell names' works.
- ESUI partially works, as textures and font replacement weren't applied.
- No model/texture replacers are working.
- FMV replacers, such as Cosmos FMV, seemingly work properly.
- Music replacers don't work? (Music files copied to (FF7 Install path)/music/vgmstream plays well)

I 'updated' FFNx and 7th Heaven to Canary, but there is no change yet.  Graphic replacers still don't work.  I'm sure 7th Heaven path setting is right, and everything is in its place.

Just a shot in the dark, would it be possible with this engine for example to replace the standard exploration scenes that are Pre-rendered 2D backdrops (With a 3D walk mesh) with an entirely real time rendered scene? With the direction FFVIIR is taking, the lack of a modern looking version of the original game has bothered me.

Think of what Diablo 2's recent re-release did by replacing the pre rendered graphics with real time ones.  We'd perhaps simply use the walkmesh as the basis for rebuilding the scene in 3D and match the original camera coordinates to keep the final look 1:1.
I don't know if this would end up speeding up or making it easier to try and match the original pre-rendered look in real time rather than having to try and recreate all of the images and then have to render them offline and cut them up to match the original engine.

Months late reply: This would require making entire new game engine as well as assets.  It may take many years, and if SE notice the project, they can send C&D to devs.

** I agree to the title.

Looks like ninostyle's vehicle models are closest one to I'm looking for.  Hehe...

13
Fresh recreations would be better.   ;D

14
What I want to ask is, 'Is there any vehicle model replacement with models from FF7 International Perfect Guide or recreations of those models?'.

** For anyone who don't know already: In FF7 International Perfect Guide(Disc 4), there are galleries for in-game items, characters(playable, summons, monsters), vehicles, and CG artworks.  In 'vehicles', you can see the detailed models of in-game vehicles(and you can rotate them with your D-pad).

FF7 Tools / Re: [PC] Text editor - touphScript (v1.4.0)

Hi. Can anyone walk me through, step by step, on how to rename Spell names (and maybe Monster names)?

I want to rename some things from the Reunion's New Translation, namely Poison Null (Poisona) and Status Null (Esuna). If I can rename them, I'd be happy.

When I open the .exe, I'm not sure what else to do other than type 'd' and press Enter, in which case it doesn't do anything.
I think spell names are stored in the kernel.  You'll need the kernel editor to do that.

Hmm... I wonder if I'll end up with buying something?(I doubt so, but...)

  • tb: Main theme alternative (dunno where it is used, I found it in the map of Jenova in the Nibelheim reactor ;D)

Haven't touched the game for years, but looks like 'tb' was playing at certain scene.(I think it's... 'what really happened in the Nibelheim reactor' when Cloud and Tifa in the lifestream)

(Long time no see, though I'm sure I'll go away after a while)
I tried to let the game play MIDI BGM via VSTi and virtual MIDI cable, and it worked.  I think it's like playing BGM through hardware MIDI module, though I never have any.

1. Get VSTHost or SAVIHost: http://www.hermannseib.com/english/midi.htm (SAVIHost maybe easier to use, though you have to install the right one for your VSTi)
2. Get any virtual MIDI cable.  I used loopMIDI: https://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html
3. And Yamaha S-YXG50 VSTi.

4. Install virtual MIDI device and make a new MIDI port.
5. Extract SAVIHost executable into where you installed S-YXG50 VSTi.  Rename savihost.exe to (VSTi DLL name).exe.  Run the renamed file.
5-1. For VSTHost, click 'File'->'New Plugin...' to load the plugin.
6. Set the input devices at 'Devices'->'MIDI...'.
7. In FF7Config.exe, set MIDI driver to the same virtual MIDI cable port you set in VSTHost(or SAVIHost).  Set MIDI data to Yamaha XG MIDI.
8. Click 'Test' button and check if you can hear the music.
9. If you're using Aali's custom OpenGL driver, you should apply ff7_opengl.reg again.

The downside is, you have to run virtual MIDI device and VSTHost everytime you play the game.  8)

If you want to download a file from speedy.sh without having premium account, you have to install their download manager(you don't need to install additional craps along with, though).  It's one-time installation and not so slow, but I hate it...(I'm uninstalling it after downloading files)

**By the way, does anyone test it on TiMidity++ bw Edition?  I haven't installed the game for several years, so I cannot test it right now.

OMG, Ackinator picked the right character again!(I tried it twice or 3 times before, and it got the right answer at least 2 times)

Also interesting is the fact that Windows 7 is likely to overtake XP in Japan within the next month or so.
It reminds me something off-topic: 2009 Windows 7 Demonstration at Japan.  I don't know why(7!).

Yay for this.  Thanks for that, we are forced to install various unwanted 'security modules' that never help us(rather such ActiveX components can cause various problems on your computer).  :P

I finally finished Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on Master Ninja difficulty, only to have it freeze at the end of the game.

So f*cking pissed.

I've seen similar...
Years ago, I bought used copy of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, and played it until the end.  However, the game froze during the ending scene, or was it end credit?  Anyway, later when I tried to record its 'hidden' video clip, the game froze again.  I finally found out a scratch I ignored before causing that, fix it with... more 'scratches'.

Doesn't look like Japanese, but Kanji(Hanzi or Chinese character).  The photo is too blurry to find out, but.......

**Edit: Looks like '隆乾' is written there.  It seems like..... some kind of personal name or something else.

Troubleshooting / Re: XG midi on windows vista?

I thought you can grab demo version somewhere, but I just remember the 'demo' is VSTi, not stand-alone softsynth driver.  Anyway, even if you can get it, I don't think you can use it with Vista and 7.
