sorry to bother, but it's two days that i try to download from rapidshare and it's impossible.

Rapidshare have decided to fuck over free users with really low speed limits as of a couple of days ago, I used to get my max speed (~2,000KB/s) now I get 30 to 40KB/s, you also can't resume downloads any more either.

Looks like Mediafire or Dropbox is the way to go.

@DragonNinja:We should talk about an alternative for all files + Backup system.
File hosters could vanish suddenly (like MegaUpload).
Or they decide to allow only the owner to access the files.

                         I am open for suggestions.

space limit / max. size per file
                         MediaFire    :      none                200 mb
                         Dropbox      :       2 gb                  ?
                         Google docs:       1 gb                  ?
                         Skydrive      :     25 gb                100 mb

Edit 1 (02/18/2012):

This info is shown by JDownloader when trying to download from RapidShare.

Dropbox is no good. This thing gets too many downloads, it regularly uses around 10GB bandwidth daily. Since Dropbox has a 10GB limit for public links on free accounts, it'd lead to an account suspension within a few days.

I might end up paying for hosting for this thing. I have something in mind that would be better with fast, ad-free hosting anyway.

EDIT: I'm so nub for posting this in the first place, read the bottom edit to see if you are amused :).

First of all, massive props to the people involved in this, it's brilliant. I am however, like a few people are, encountering problems

So I installed FF7Music (full) and all was working fine, albeit a wee bit delayed. All of a sudden, specifically at Holzoff's cabin, the music stops altogether!

I've tried reinstalling, using the PSFs, checking all my settings(FF7Music, Aali's driver) and as far as I'm aware nothing seems to have changed.

I know Aali's driver is configured because I'm also using the Avalanche 2D Overhaul mod, and have done since before installing FF7Music.

As you can see I also fought some battles to see if that would kick-start the music like it did for some others.

Thanks if you took the time to read this.

EDIT

I'm playing on my laptop. plugging into my TV via HDMI and for some reason my TV speakers automatically mute FF7Music, but not FF7, hence the reason why sound was working but music wasn't.

With MegaUpload gone, and RapidShare slowed down lately, I put some thought into how I was going to host this. I found a good solution (it's costing me a bit, but it's worth it), and figured that there's no better way to celebrate than with a
NEW VERSION: 1.51.13

Main Download (Ad-supported, helps pay for hosting)
Alternate Download (no ads, more guilt)

This was such a monumental update that I actually ended up having to rewrite the NSIS install script from scratch. Don't worry, the launcher and ini file that make it worth while should still work fine.

Changelog
  • Only one installer now. The remastered OST is now downloaded on-the-fly by the installer. If you already have it (or don't check the box) it'll be skipped. If you MUST have it pre-downloaded (such as for archival on a CD), it can be found at this link here (or here without ads). Just stick it in the same folder as the installer before you run it, the rest is automatic.
  • If an internet connection is available, the installer will check for updates on startup.
  • If an internet connection is available, the FF7 launcher will check for updates on startup.

This is a recommended upgrade. It won't make much difference now, since I didn't touch the ini, but it'll make future, more important updates easier to deliver.

edit: Also, since so much has been changed, let me know if something breaks for you. It's always easier to fix bugs when they're reported :D

Just a note for everyone out there: Please click the links for the ads as it is helping Covarr with hosting costs for this as opposed to the ad free ones. It takes 5 seconds of your time and is much better then having these files hosted on mediafire or another free host.

Just a heads up, I can confirm this currently DOESN'T work on Windows 8 Consumer Preview. I already have a pretty good idea what's wrong, so an update may be coming soon. Chances are it won't affect you, unless you're an early adopter, though.

This is also a good chance for me to get some wider-scale testing of the auto-update feature! I'm so excited.

It is nothing to do with both.  Either you are having compatibility issues or you have not installed aali driver/config properly.

The remastered soundtrack should be in ff7music's install directory, in a folder called "OSTRe". If it's not, then I've messed something up in my new installer (no surprise). Double check there, and if it's not there I might be able to help you out.

I checked there already, I figured it was there since it was called OSTre.

What worries me is, it took all that time to download and the ost was nowhere to be found

edit:
also I tried every single profile and no music to speak of

I also had a issue with the installer not automatically downloading OSTre.
Maybe one of the firewalls blocked the installer.

I had to download OSTre manually and place it in the the folder with the installer.

Hi Covarr,

i have compared your new installer (1.51.13) with the old version (1.51.12)
and found some issues.

  • It is not possible to install the new version without an Internet connection.

  • These temporary (%Temp%) files were not deleted after the installation:
    • 7za.exe
    • ff7musiccurrentversion.txt
    • OSTRe.7z   <= !

  • FF7 \FF7Music\Ficedula\FF7MUSIC.ini  +
                   FF7 \Ficedula\FF7MUSIC.ini

    is             : Profile=Remastered
    should be: Profile=OSTRemastered

This should be altered to avoid NO sound errors:

    is             : InputPlugin=in_vgmstream.dll
    should be: InputPlugin= FF7 \FF7Music\in_vgmstream.dll

    is             : OutputPlugin=out_wave.dll
    should be: OutputPlugin= FF7 \FF7Music\out_wave.dll

PitBrat, I will look into the auto-downloading. I'm not really sure why it's failing, but I think I know where to start looking, in any case.

UGerstl, I watch this thread like a hawk, (in fact, I read all new posts on the site whenever I have a chance). You don't need to tell me this in here AND via PM, I will see it either way. I have noted all the issues you mentioned and will look into them.

Hi Covarr,

sorry for double PM+Posting. I do this normally to be sure that the corresponding
user reads my analysis. Very often only the PM is read and not the posting.

What worries me is, it took all that time to download and the ost was nowhere to be found

The problem is, that the download of OSTRe.7z is placed in the temporary
(%Temp%) folder and not in the folder where the installer is located.

No, this is not the problem. the 7z extractor also goes in the temp folder, and should be extracting in there as well. What the installer is designed to do is extract it in there, and then copy or move the extracted files over to where they need to be. (and then cleaning up after itself)

If the files aren't going where they're supposed to, I have messed something up for sure, but using the temp folder was not the mistake, as it's designed to work from temp OR same directory.

Jimmyto, is OSTRe.7z in your Temp directory? (I dunno 'bout XP or Vista, but in Windows 7 this can easily be accessed by typing %temp% into the start menu. If so, you have the songs and they just need moved/extracted to the correct location.

Is the problem system a Vista machine?
Maybe that pesky UAC/DEP is diverting files from a system folder to VIRTUAL STORE.

Not likely. The installer requests admin when it runs, which should prevent that.
