The link is dead, and couldn't find it on NexusMods on it's own.

yes it extracts/copy and edits registry keys but it also makes the mods work together.
I never worked with INNO. Take note that the GUI part is not even 10% of Bootleg.Yes, but as far as I imagine, it can't go further than archive extracting, copying, registry keys, right?
As for the rewriting, that's been a to-do since forever, but neither PitBrat or myself are good enough to do anything other than in batch (and now that PitBrat can no longer work on it, it got worse).Well I have INNO scripting skills (which is basically Pascal), but I'm also busy with other projects at the moment. I can make a demo GUI in INNO (Or maybe Delphi, if Freearc is completely vetoed) when I'm free and send send it to you to see if you like it...
1) What FMV and Soundtrack enhancements do I need?Well, there is no option for no Soundtrack replacement... Actually even if I select nothing at all in all tags, mod listing still looks for ff7music and remix....
You don't necessarily need any, but Rumbah for FMV and Anxious Heart or FinalFantasyTim for soundtracks are my recommendations.
A complete Bootleg install needs around 35GB to install, including temporary installation space as well as the mods. A final, complete install is around 9GB. A minimal install should be somewhere around 4GB. Temporary space is around 8GB (I'm not sure about the exact size, but I believe that's around this. It could range anywhere from 4 to 12), because all the files are extracted before being installed.OK then, it'll take me about a week or so to free up some space. Then I'll give it a try.
I've never done that before, so you'll be testing it for us. When you run the install process, you'll see text in the command box that will indicate what's going on. There is also an install log at the end to check. Let us know your results. My pleasure, but it would be easier if I actually knew what exactly is being used from the remix installer... Also, the log would be in my FFVII dir, right?
This was my biggest frustration when I started. I will say this first. If you don't have the freedom of space you'll run into a lot of problems. I started out with trial and error until I got the game exactly to how I wanted. The problem with that is I ended up using around 20 GB. I've since then organized and got rid of what I wasn't using which lowered the hard drive consumption. You could consider a small external hard drive. They can be quite cheap.
3) Why didn't Square-Enix recompile the game/re-port the game?So they don't like "piracy" but they took cues from this forum??
Looking at what Square-Enix has done to make the game runnable on newer systems, it almost directly mirrors how we do it. It would appear that they either have lost the original source code, or it's in such a state of atrophy, that it worthless to port.
4) What's up with the joypad controller support?hm... Which makes me think is a mouse-look mod possible?
You are buying a game that was released in 1998. The only real controllers that were used for PC back then were a joysticks. WASD and mouselook were new technologies, and not even all FPSs had that!
5) The graphics look like crap! How hard would it have been for Square Enix to re-render those?
Yes, the original 3D background art was lost, and the 1998 port team had to use the low resolution PSX graphics. We have some mods to help with that.
