Title: 7th Heaven Updates (Coming With Catalog 3.0)
Post by: EQ2Alyza on 2017-05-21 06:20:24
Hi all,

As you have may noticed, Iros is no longer active on the forums, and there is no way to contact him outside the forums. Because of this, 7H hit a bit of a stalemate in development. I think it goes without saying how thankful I, and everyone here, am for his creation and development of 7H. Iros will always hold that credit :)

With that said, it's time to move forward. I have decided to team up with TurBoss and UGerstl to continue the development of 7H and help make it a better tool for everyone. There have already been several bug fixes and enhancements done based on our personal experiences and the communities experiences with using it. Your troubleshooting/feedback posts DO make a difference by providing us with information on issues that one person (myself) can't test all herself.

Sooo, without further ado, here is what we have done so far (subject to more before release):

Any way you can allow the preview pictures in mod configs to be resized/repositioned?

Any time i make one it's too big and the bar actually covers the picture. A minor thing but still

Are they 400x225 size?

I get the pics to fit perfectly eventually but they get cut off so much if you have them any bigger. Just move it down slightly so the bar and the white space around it don't overtake it

Great to see some improvements. I will update ChaOS soon, too. Just finished the battle model of Sephiroth.

Regarding 7H:
1 - This is useless for the normal user, though the version should be displayed somewhere
2 - This could be moved to the right side, also the arrows make their more sense to me. Don't know how often I moved the wrong mod with the current design
3 - Redundant since the mod is already in the active tab
4 - This should be replaced with the OpenGL driver configuration. Doesn't even know what this is for, all I know is that Iros did misunderstand me and had added this useless button.  :-[

Did actually somebody uses the Profiles? And didn't somebody made a neat logo? http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=16674.msg236857#msg236857

Your requests have been sent. I think #2 might be a bit tricky, but we'll work on something, and I'll send it your way to test. I actually would prefer the mods to be able to drag, but not sure if it's possible.

I use Profile saves when checking load orders that are posted with troubleshooting questions, so it's helpful for me at least :)

I'll look into the logo for the final release. It's certainly neat and worthy.

I have a few suggestions if this is the acceptable place for suggestions....(not sure):

1. Possibly add auto organization to the Active Mods or Library tabs to cut down on the simple fix of keeping mods in the correct order.
2. Add a Help tab next to Workshops that gives basic "To do's" if the game doesn't start. Ex: Install, or reinstall Overwrite Game Converter, or make sure your graphics card is up to date. Then add a link at the end that leads to the correct help forum if you are still having problems.
3. Add images to the "No Change" choices (if that's you all doing that) That way it'll give more of a comparison of what you are changing. Like, what the Highwind looks like normal compared to Costa07's Highwind.

Edit: Edited for easier viewing I guess?

seems like we can also post updates to our mods covered in this program.  Doing a fresh play through testing and getting pretty far.  Some things are still wanky.  Don't use Sephiroth's first level two limit.  It seems to be crashing the game for some reason.  Probably because I using a defective one as I miss placed my fixed one.  Also some battles are messed up like some random and boss battles are jumbled up.  Probably need to redo the kernel part.  I wish we could make out own topics and lock and then edit them whenever we got updates to put out.  Any chance we can get something like that implemented?

I'll have to recreate that if you're going to use it.. because the PSD file of that is on my old laptop harddrive that failed. Still trying for ways to recover the data in that hard drive.. I'm always ready to help your team Alyza! :)

There's no download link because the newest version hasn't officially launched yet. This is just to inform you of the current build progress/updates.

Hey Alyza! Happy new year to you too!

By my experience with 7th heaven a (resume/pause download) feature is definitely needed for me ( I had to re-download the biggest files like 10 times due to my current low bandwidth connection). Also an option on which path do we want the 7th heaven to read first in order (direct, textures, movies, music) before reading the iros, so as we are able to use any mods downloaded before the 7th heaven mod manager release. If this is even plausible.

A guide on how to make an iro (mostly the xml file and folders structure) would be welcomed too. I will browse through the threads and see if there is something similar though.

I also experienced some conflict between the textures folder and the battle scenes textures loaded from an iro. After moving my old field and magic backed up files into the textures folder without de-activating the iro mod first. It messed up my battle textures, appeared them very blurry like the upscaled ones in the field. Well I fixed the issue by de-activating the iro mods and reactivating them after a 7thheaven restart but in the process of doing that I deleted the cache files in the appdata folder. After that I can't see the preview images in the mod manager list. I restored my deleted xml inside the "cache" folder (though I believe this has nothing to do with it) but nothing changed. I also used to experience frequent iro list updates some days ago (not sure if there were any actual updates or if it was just a bug of v1.55) but it kept downloading the preview images each time it was asking me to update. Now it has stopped doing that.

If there is a way to get my preview files back please let me know. Thanks!

edit: About the preview images today I experienced the weirdest thing ever!

Code: [Select]
I started 7th heaven and it started sending updates.
I thought that it was a normal thing or someone read my post
and sent the preview images as an update. When the images
finished downloading the whole system froze!!! I needed to
reboot manually and when I logged in again my whole desktop
was vanished, there only were the chrome and recycle bin shortcut
icons and all my images, desktop folders, video, music files were moved
inside the users/username/ folder. My wallpaper was replaced
by a new blue themed with a mouse artwork one. I tried to look for
the 7thheaven folder and looked at my recently installed window updates.
An update notification was popping up on the far bottom right end of the screen
and it was by Logitech. I found the folder and I tried to launch 7th Heaven
where everything was like it was totally reset. I decided to close the program
and was staring at the screen until I realised what the heck was going on.
The screen resolution settings and everything were completely reset.
While in the process of accepting the whole situation I tried to re-configure
the screen settings like dpi resolution, clear text and everything. So I had
to log out and in for the settings to re-load. When I logged back in, everything
where in the right place like nothing happened. The logitech update notification
kept popping up so I exit the process and the 7th heaven loaded fine
and updated the preview images.

This was the weirdest experience I ever had with windows
but 7th heaven works like it is meant to...
One word... strawberries windows!

I am interested given the mention of no need to use the custom exes.

If you see the posts I made recently, those exe's are causing problems.

Yes, I know what you mean about the exes. Remember, I only gather others work and add them to the 7H Catalog. I am not a modder. So if any major issues crop up, I probably won't be capable of fixing them. It's good to report them though, as perhaps someone else could take it into their own hands to try and fix.

Hey sorry for the necro but wanted to make my presence known and announce I still plan to finish my fixes for the mod.  Hopefully this weekend since I am off.  If this update is not live probably try to get it for this update.

Update: Well I decided to play test it and resize the needed windows as I go.  Some random battles seems messed up so need to redo the scene bin.  Probably my fault as I was having issues and placed certain new bosses in places they probably didn't belong.  Anyway the configuration is all set and I know how to make them work properly so that will be good to go EQ2Alyza will just need to set up the download for the Iro which I'll also provide.  FYI thanks for doing all this appreciate the time and effort.

Once again thank you guys so much!!

Keeping you guys posted.  A lot going on with work and my gaming life so this project took a back seat.  I have gotten to the second disk so half of most of the story is done.  Good news is once second disc is done I will be able to safely release it so you guys can play through up to disk two with the major to minor changes.  After that it'll be smooth sailing since disc three is mostly extra stuff.  Not sure when I'll get back to doing it but shouldn't be to long.

Looking forward to it!  ;D

I've been having issues with incompatible Kernels from the Menu Overhaul project overwriting my custom KERNEL.BIN settings. You mentioned that the Menu Overhaul mod's Kernals were added by mistake and should be rectified with the new catalog. I can't wait!

Eagerly anticipating the day I can once again use my custom KERNAL.BIN with the Menu Overhaul Project.

Thanks for your hard work!

Beacause will never work with NT until Sega Chief creates NT 2.0. He wants to combine Beacause with it for that release, but it's far, far off from completion.

MO already works with NT.

I do have plans for the next release to allow MO and Beacause to be played without having to do any .exe switching.

So, in 7H catalog, if I activate both MO and NT mod 1.5, I can play with the 2 mods together ?
I only played goerulv's hardcore mod, and I would try at least one time the NT mod, but I can't play without MO ^^

If you are using the newest version of New Threat from the offical thread with the ff7_bc.exe that is also included in that download then the Menu Overhaul portion of the Reunion IRO will work with no issues.

What do you mean ?
I must not use the NT from the 7H catalog ?

I usually mod my game by using only 7H catalog and activate mods froms here
What do I have to do for having latest NT version working with Reunion and MO , and eventual grapic mods so ?

Thank you so much !

The version of NT that is in the 7h catalogue is 1.4 and does not support menu over haul. In the official NT thread there is a link to the IRO version of NT 1.5 that comes with the IRO and a set of exes. Take the ff7_bc.exe and put it in your ff7 folder where the current ff7_bc.exe is and overwrite it (make a backup first ofc)

then you can either
   1. Take the NT iro included and place it in your ff7/mods/7th heaven folder where the rest of your iros are and lauch 7h
   2. In 7h go to your library and select import -> import from iro archive -> select the NT iro you downloaded, name it and hit go/ok/import. Then refresh the library tab and active the new IRO at the bottom of the list.

The current 7H NT can run with MO, but the ff7_mo.exe provided in the game converter changes the starting stats. I have the updated version with the correct stats, but just waiting on some free time to convert it to hext for injection with the next 7H update.

Updated the Tutorial page with the latest build of 7H v1.56 RC6. It has pretty much all the features I listed in the OP of this thread.

Nothing within the Catalog has been updated yet because...1) I've been unmotivated (lazy) to continue work the past year or so on this project, but more importantly 2) I'm waiting for the next big projects to update (New Threat, Reunion, ReMako HD). All other smaller additions or changes to the Catalog were halted until those next big three released. Sorry if this bothers anyone. I do this because it's honestly really tiring to constantly update the Catalog with every little small change from every active mod in development. It's much easier to accumulate a list of small changes until a major mod update hits, then release everything in a big ball of excitement.

Considering how long it's taking for them to develop, if even one of those big three were to release an update, I'd probably update the Catalog to 3.0 at that point.

@EQ2Alza looks like we have a MAJOR issue with the newest 7th Haven update It is putting mods into

Code: [Select]
C:\Games\FINAL\ FANTASY\ VII\mods\7H
For me for some reason instead of putting them into the PROPER FF7 folder which is

Code: [Select]
C:\Games\FINAL FANTASY VII

AKA without all the EXTRA SLASHES in the folder path

I have already fixed it. Just letting others know that just replacing files isn't enough and you are going to need to do more to get it working

Yeah, I noticed this on my initial setup of 7th Heaven (which was with version 1.56). By default it had all those extra slashes (some slashes were even backwards "/" and on one of the lines it had it listed something like "Final\/Fantasy\VII"). I know I did not enter those, because it was the very first time I went into the config. Before doing anything else I made sure to set it up properly and it has worked fine.

Recently though, I've been having one issue where the "direct" and "music" folders in "Extra Folders" keep getting duplicated every time I launch the game with the 7th Heaven launcher. It got to a point where my game was lagging very badly, and I went to check the config and noticed 100+ instances of these folders listed. After deleting them to just the 2, the game was smooth as could be, but launching the game again added 2 more instances of those folders. Does anyone have any idea why it would keep making those folders each time I launch the game?

Also, is there a way to add an image to a post or does it have to be an online image only? Was going to post an image of my General Settings in 7th Heaven to show more clearly what I mean about the "direct" and "music" folders.

Does anyone have any idea why it would keep making those folders each time I launch the game?

Yeah both of those issues are bugs with 1.56 unfortunately, and there isn't currently a fix for it. It's best to manually put in your source information and delete those extra instances of "direct" and "music" for now.

Also, is there a way to add an image to a post or does it have to be an online image only? Was going to post an image of my General Settings in 7th Heaven to show more clearly what I mean about the "direct" and "music" folders.

All images have to have an online source like from Imgur or Discord.
Title: Re: 7th Heaven Updates (Coming With Catalog 3.0) REUNION
Post by: rattamatt396 on 2019-03-10 20:42:38
Will the reunion version RO5C ever get added to the catalog in final heaven? The current version of the reunion mod in the final heaven catalog is version R03C and is completely outdated and dropped support for final heaven a while ago. I would love to have the benefits of this mod.

R05c won't be added. It's a massive mod to pull apart and organize all the proper files, so I'm waiting until R06 is released to start that process.

When it's finished is the only info we know. DLPB is very particular with his work. He generally doesn't release broken or buggy mods because he does all his own internal testing and tool creation. It takes time and patience to achieve the amount of work he's doing.

Understandable. Ive been talking to him on other forms and honestly I dont think hell even bring RO6 or RO7 to the 7H catalog. He seems biased towards his own mod tool. I refuse to use anything else but 7H. Now that being said it might be convenient on and easy for the user but it might be an awful tool for developers. I dont know I am not a developer all I know about developing are the basics in python 3. If he adds it then good if not oh well ill probably play it sometime down the line somewhere else or watch a playthrough of it. Im glad 7H is under maintenance again.

I just wish some modding developers wouldn't hold their work above our heads like a person holding a piece of bacon above a dogs head just teasing us while having a sense of superiority over us because of their knowledge and skills.

I haven't been active here all that long, but I've noticed that the folks actually doing the heavy lifting take a great deal of pride in their work, and don't generally subscribe to the "Release early, release often, and let the users find our bugs" mentality.  That DLPB doesn't want to officially support 7H is totally his call, and EQ2Alyza not wanting to spend the time picking apart the Reunion mod before it's "Done" to make it 7H-compatible is very understandable (we've all got lives outside our hobbies!!).  Does that mean the two of them will bust out a keg (or three) when Reunion's totally finished so it can be included?  Probably not, but that's where other community members can offer up some of their own time for the benefit of all.

Yup that there personal choice. Ill play it eventually but more than likely not on 7H. And yep we all have our hobbies but we all have our own lives too (I just got back from work myself tbh lol) I should dig deeper into learning programming. I'd love to make some mods for this game and for this community.

Hi everbody !
First of all, thanks you for all your amazing work ! 7th Heaven is incredible !

just a question, I'm on 1.56 but everytime I try to update I get an error inside 7th Heaven.

I came here to download it manually but the only link i found is the mirror link in the update description and that send me to a page about buying cloud services . . .
Any way I can get the update somewhere manually ?

Thanks a lot in advance.

If you're using 1.56rc7, drop back to rc6.

I'm using the version from Tifa's Final Heaven - 7th Heaven Modding Tutorial, it says it's 1.56rc6 !

Where do I find the right version ?

Also the more I add and remove Mods, the more SLOW the game is when loading and changing scenery and entering battle, etc. . . is this normal it's almost unplayable, I have to wait between 6 and 15 second between each screen ???

Under \Workshop\General Settings, make sure that the direct and music (and potentially other) folders aren't listed about fifteen bazillion times.

Oddly, this happens at random for me, and several times, when I open it, it doesn't make more, it's a strange glitch, I'll give it that.

hello there, guys. I just remembered that there was this post for the updates of the catalog of 7th Heaven Mod Manager and I wonder if I could make a request that's going around the mod Battle Models - Weapons mod that is already in the catalog and that has the issue with Mike + Millenia option of the mod.

I wanted to ask if I could request that it gets updated with the Iro I modificated to fix the Issue. I oppened a topic about this and managed to end up fixing it and the steps to fix it are there as well but I can always send the Iro to be uploaded to the mod's Catalog and perhaps save others the problem of having to figure out how to fix them. If the answer is Yes just lemme know if I should post the Iro over here too or if I should PM it to you.

But if You have already fixed the issue then no problem, I was just asking ^^ just sorry for sticking my nose around hehe ^^'

ok then ^^ Thank you so much. For this and for the 7th Heaven in general if not for it I would've stuck with just installer mods and probably have to do a ton of reinstals of Final Fantasy VII in the future hehe.

So yeah, thank you for all the hard work ^^

Is there any way to run the game with the downloaded mods, without launching it directly through 7th Heaven? For example, if I could use 7th Heaven to download, install and setup the mods and then just launch the game directly through it's exe file. The reason I ask is that although the game works perfectly under wine (on Linux) and 7th Heaven seems to as well, it crashes when attempting to launch the game through 7th Heaven.

7H is an injection tool. It loads your activated mods into memory and releases them when the game closes. Files in the game folder are untouched.

You can download the mods from 7H and use the IRO creation tool to unpack them. Then install the mods manually and launch from the game folder. You have to know the file structure of the game very well to do this though.

Hello
This is my first post, so thanks to all the people who did these mods. It’s awesome!
One thing that I find annoying on the pc version of ff7 is the names used for the input keys, in my opinion they don’t make sense, especially when you play with a gamepad. Somebody made a fix for the vanilla steam version. I would love to do that by myself for the Beacause mod but the files are encrypted… that would be great if you can add this feature in your next release.
By the way, in Junon before the Dolphin game, Barret says: “We need to get to the districts above. MEBBE we could scramble up the support…”

Hi EQ2Alyza! I've been here since the Titeguy3 Remix times and have not been active in a long time but I've been using 7th heaven and I love it!!! Thank you and all the team so much, here's for the next update and catalogue!

I had a few problems (1.56RC6) and didn't found a clear answer but I kept tweaking and manage to fix it, I'm going to describe the issues and how I fixed them in case someone asks:

#1: tried to install it like in the guide but the movies folder didn't worked, I always needed the disk in order to play movies (even if I selected a path in 7th heaven), so I saw the logs and find out that the path that the game seek was E:\ff7\movies (it didn't ask me for a movie path), turns out since I used the 1998 disk and not the blank one, it registered that path without asking, and even if I reinstalled I could't change it, so I just searched that path on regedit.exe (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII and another one) and changed it to the correct one, voilà it worked!

#2: After #1 it played perfectly... and then Windows 10 updated to 1903 :P sooo it stopped working, it just stayed in a black screen, the log indicated an internal error but no other info, so I unpached and repatched, same problem, reinstalled the game with same config and same thing, so instead of looking for the problem I reinstall the whole thing completely only saving the mods/7th heaven folder so I don't have to re-download them... well that didn't worked, the game launched but activating any mod crashed 7th heaven  with an oops error (even while deleting all the 7H files plus cache), by deleting the mods and downloading them again worked.

Hope this helps someone

The current 7H NT can run with MO, but the ff7_mo.exe provided in the game converter changes the starting stats. I have the updated version with the correct stats, but just waiting on some free time to convert it to hext for injection with the next 7H update.

Where do I get this correct version please, since I have been waiting 2 years for the new 7th heaven catalog which still isnt here, I dont mind just manually copying an exe in place but I see nowhere to download it.

To me the advantage of 7th heaven is a way to mass integrate collections of small mods (not the big mods you seem excited for).  One of these advantages would be the catalog would be updated often to reflect additions and updates.

If this is overwhelming for you then I volunteer my time for doing catalog updates assuming someone can be taught on the process on how to do it, I dont know how many people use the 3 big mods, or if they like me and just use a bunch of smaller mods together. If this is a no and you just want to manage it yourself then please at least provide the fixed menu overhaul exe thank you so I can at least start using that (as well as others waiting for it).

Ahh, gotta love Windows updates.  Re-run the game conversion tool, and choose "Overwrite" when asked at the beginning.  That generally clears up a good 90% of Microsoft's bungling of things.  If you run the registry key wiper beforehand, it'll also give you an opportunity to use the dummy ff7_disc1.iso and re-define your program and movie paths.

There's a lot more being done for Catalog 3.0 than just the 3 big mods. It'll release by the end of August, but perhaps sooner if the work goes smoothly. Everything is already mapped out, so it's just a matter of going down the list and getting it done.

You can help by compiling the files for any mods you want to see in the Catalog and sending me a download link for them via PM. It then needs a final check before it gets passed into the Catalog, for obvious organization and copyright reasons.

Also since you supplied that exe for testing on another post I dont need that one anymore anyway but I am still willing to help the project.

Not anything definite and clear. Kaldarasha started one awhile back, but never really took off with it: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15985.0

The basic idea is that you need to create a root folder, which typically is labeled the mod name. After that, create subfolders within it that lead to the files you want 7H to inject for modding. The mod.xml then needs to be constructed to read from those folders and setup the options used in the Configure button within 7H. Break open the MO Test I posted and study how it's working. I've changed that Test IRO for Catalog 3.0 release, so here is another example for reference:

Also note the folders that need to be used for the mods to apply:

Direct Mode = ON (as seen in your [gamedir]\direct folder)
battle
char
menu
world
etc

Direct Mode = OFF (as seen in your [gamedir]\data folder)
battle.lgp
char.lgp
menu_us.lgp
world_us.lgp
etc

It's not very user friendly when starting off, but once you learn it and figure out a good workflow, it's not so bad. Feel free to PM or Discord with me any specific questions you might have.

Is there a ETA on a release of the latest catalog please.

The "stop being a whiny git: answer: When it's done(tm)

The less "stop being a whiny git" answer: Not only is the catalog being updated, but a ton of mods are also being re-checked for bugs and problematic interactions, the guides and tutorials are being updated, and depending on how much time certain people have and the testing time others have, 7H itself may even see an update.  In other words, this is going to be bigger than just a list of new mods to pick from.

I was not being a whiny git, just asking a civil question for god sake.

That's why I included the "less git-ty" answer.  You'll need to forgive us for being a little cranky of late... one of the best coders is settling into a new job, other folks have personal issues in play, and then you have those special snowflakes (since muted) who demand personal attention RIGHT THIS D2MN3D MINUTE!!1!!!  It's been years since a lot of this stuff was last actively developed, and rather than just throw it out there like a steaming pile of Remako poo, the old guard and us fresh bloods are trying to bring everything up to modern standards so it Just Works(tm) without crazy workarounds (see "640x480 mode").  Much of what will find its way into Catalog v3 is available via Strife's "Mods of the Round" subscription URL, it just hasn't all been vetted to play nicely together, and a couple of things (like Reunion R06) haven't actually been released yet.

Edit:  And then there's the excitement of tearing apart FF8-Remake... some of the coders are wetting themselves just with how crazy dotEMU screwed things up on that, and seeing what might be possible.

3-day weekend and typhoon 17 sweeping into Japan this weekend, so I’ll probably be indoors most of the time. I “hope” I can release something this weekend, but I’m not promising anything. It’ll be done when it’s done is the only real answer I can give.

Kinda off topic, but I'm happy to hear some people might actually enjoy the challenge of modding FF8-R instead of just crying that it's a pile of poo and refusing to touch it.

Back on topic: Thanks to everyone who has worked on 7th Heaven. What a godsend for modding FF7 it is.

Hello there! I seem to be having a problem with 7th Haeven, I don't know if I should post this here, been long since I came to this forum so, I guess I'll say it here. I seem to be having problems to boot up Final Fantasy VII through 7th heaven mod manager, it shows up the black screen and the little sound but then it just closes. I launched the ISO and everything but... that happens. I got some mods like New Threat and Because and Menu Overhaul, but with the mo exe it just gives me a crash error and with the bc exe it shows up the black screen but then it crashes off

EDIT: Fixed, it was a thing about the sound driver i had to change on the "RunFFVIIConfig.exe"
