Well, I'm doing this tool to create an excel file with hardware information on Windows 2000 machines.

So far it's been easy by accessing the registry, however, I am having problems getting memory information.

The main things I want to find are:

RAM speed
Memory slots taken
Amount of RAM per memory module

I've tried looking in the registry for some information about this, but no luck.  I also tried to access the CMOS, but I don't have enough knowlege of Assembly.  A little help will be greatly appreciated.

An example would be great, but I only need to know which header files to include and what functions to call.

Thanks (cya guys later, busy busy busy).

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Blocking Port TCP 139
« on: 2003-08-13 01:51:53 »
Well, here is the problem.  People in our school lab have been abusing the 'net send' command, making batch files to send a lot of spam to many computers.  This hasn't gotten out of hand,  but it can if we just let it go.  One temporary solution that we did was disabling the messanger service in all computers, but anyone can enable them again.  Plus it doesn't resolve the problem, it just hides it.  Anyways, I gave the suggestion of blocking the TCP 139 port.  However, we have a lot of applications and services that use TCP ports.  I wanted to know from you guys (from experience or knowledge) if TCP 139 is of any necessity.  We use Novell Netware to log-on to the network, and windows 2000/redhat 9.0.

General Discussion / Who got accepted for FFXI Beta?
« on: 2003-06-04 22:22:55 »
I did, I almost forgot about it until I read a post about a guy saying that Square was notifying testers already, and then I check my email, and 'BING', there it is.

I should be receiving something in my mail in the next week or so.

Well, I'm a noob when it comes to MFC.  I just starting programming with MFC a couple of weeks ago, and there are still many things I don't know.

Here is my problem.

I'm trying to pass int and double variables from dialog to dialogs, and every time I try to make a non-mfc class I keep getting errors.  So far I know how to pass strings from one dialog to another dialog, but I need to pass variables.  I was also thinking of using pointers to pass the variables, but I still kept getting other errors.  If you guys can give me a code example, that would be truly appreciated.  My head hurts, and I'm running out of time.  I've been able to solve many of the obstacles I've had coding the program, but unfortunately I haven't found any tuturials for this next problem.

So if you guys can help me, and spare me some sanity, it will really help.  Thanks in advance.

Well, not really expert, but here is my problem.

My project team is doing a C++ program to sell concert tickets for an ATM type machine (except we wont deal with the hardware).  The problem is not the C++ coding, since we have it pretty much figured out.  The thing is, I want to use a Flash GUI for the program.  I want to know if there is any API or how to include an SWF file into the program.  I know how to use Flash, and know how to code in C++, but I'm ubersome stupid in going more than that. plz help, plz heal, 555

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / mmmmm -_-
« on: 2002-08-26 13:58:24 »
Well, this has been known for a while, and I'm sure some of you have known about this.  It's about MS IE hidden (very hidden) files.  Read:

http://www.fuckmicrosoft.com/content/ms-hidden-files.shtml

Like it says, you have to see to believe.  I couldn't believe how much shit was hidden in those files.  Fuck, and I thought I was downloading too much porn and running out of space.  The files that I was able to delete amounted to almost a whoping 1 GB.  There are more hidden files, and these are the files known primarily in 5.0 but not limited to the other versions.  This makes me wonder, should I get another browser like Opera or NetScape?  Duh!!!!!

Why the hell do they do that?

Edit:  On a side note.  One thing I have also noted about the Microsoft Hotmail, is that it seems that it's letting the mailboxes be flooded with SPAM.  Also, I saw 2 pop up windows come out as soon as I logged in.  Yahoo uses Anti-Spam software, Microsoft is the one with the big bucks.  Is this a move to have all free users be driven out because they want to keep only the people who pay?  I can only see in the near future, that Microsoft will kick out all free users by force if they don't want to pay.

General Discussion / FFXI offline? o_O
« on: 2002-08-15 02:54:30 »
Well, I heard from someone (name to remain unannymous) that FFXI will be also offline, meaning that you can play online and offline.  Supossedly FFXI will be delayed until Feb of 2003 because of this, and that the PC and PS2 versions will come out in the same time.  I trust the information that this friend gives me, but this really sounds like a big rumor.  Anyone knows something about this?

General Discussion / What happened to the forum?
« on: 2002-04-23 05:21:00 »
I wanted to check the forum like at 2 pm (pacific standard time) and there was a page that said (I can't remember well) something like Php error, check $somethinguser and some other stuff.  I couldn't access the board for a while until now (10:30 pm).  Later like at 2:30 pm I wasn't able to access qhimm's website.  Was this related to the board problem?  Well at least it's back.  :D

Well, some of you probably have known about this from a long time ago.  I know I'm one of them.  I have followed the improvements of this company and their products from the day they unveiled their crusoe processor.  I'm just letting you people that don't know that I have big hopes on this new processor, and what benefits this processor could bring.  I'm not going to describe stuff about the processor, I will only post the website and you people see by yourself.

 www.transmeta.com

I would like to know your comments on this one, since you people know more about the architecture of x86 processors more than me.

Note:  Linus Torvald is working with this company.

Edit:  If you think that this is spam or site advertisement, it is not.  I'm very interested on investing on this company, and what are the "not-so-obvious" advantages and disadvantages of this processor and Intel and AMD processors.

Does anyone know more news about this?

I read somewhere that Capcom and SquareSoft are planning to do a fighting game.  Kinda like Marvel vs Capcom, I guess.  The game development has not begun, but I believe this to be true (I guess squaresoft is liking the idea of working with other companies).

Anyone knows?  Please post more info about it.

 Linux for PlayStation 2

Seems like Video Game console systems are going to become more like PCs.

General Discussion / Final Fantasy Manga?
« on: 2002-01-23 04:06:00 »
Does anyone know where can I find Final Fantasy Manga?  I found a website that had a scan of a manga where it showed the part when lucrecia tells vincent that she loves hojo.  Another website had a manga about 9 pages long that it was about when hojo made the experiments to him.
Does anyone else know where I can get more of these?

FFX is not in my sight anymore, and since they are not going to release a PC version I'm not going to worry.  I'll buy it by the time that there's a PS2 emulator.  It helps square, and it screws sony.  Plus, the game should be cheaper then.

The game that I'm waiting for to come out is FFXI.  The previews are sweet.  Check it:

 FFXI previews

It makes me want to definately save money to buy a more powerful PC, get DSL, and to pay $10 a month for the game.  Supposedly there is also going to be an arcade version.  There was some rumor that there was going to be a use of zip disks.  You would be able to save the data from a PC, a PS2, or an arcade.
In this game you will not be able to control the party, but you can be a leader in a party.  This means that you control your own character, and that if you are the one that forms the party you get to be the leader.  As the leader you can give orders and the party can follow you (which may cause problems).  There can be a maximum of 6 members on a team, but there can be a maximum of 3 teams allied.  This is good when you attack powerful monsters.  Also, you can modify your character to make it look like whatever you want.
Cool huh.  This game supposedly is guaranteed not to be the same as Ultima or Phantasy Star Online.

Well, in a week I'm off from school, and I'm going to my parents house for the holidays.  I'll stay there for 2 weeks, and hopefully visit most of my friends.  My parents live in the southernmost part of California, and I live near the LA area and it is always a drag to drive all the way over there (its not that far but still it's a drag).

What are you guys doing?  Staying home?  Going on a trip?
Work? heh, heh.

General Discussion / Software bundle free!
« on: 2001-12-04 20:21:00 »
I just came from school and I went to pickup my software bundle that the school was giving out.  I could not believe what it contained.  Check it out:

                                                   approximate price in $
Windows 2000 server -          $696
Office Professoinal 2000 -    around $500
FrontPage 2002 -                     $150
Visual Studio 6.0 Professional -  $2,500  (it has 12 CDs)
Visio Professional 2002   -     I don't know but it costs a lot
Project 2000  -                            This I have no idea

All these for free.  Every student on school were charged $99 to be included with the tuition costs, and in return we got all these software.  I still can't believe what I have in my hands. AAHHHHHHHHHH!!!

General Discussion / Nightmare's beginning song delayed!
« on: 2001-11-29 06:16:00 »
Hey everyone, sorry but the song "Nightmare's beginning" aka Shin-ra mansion basement tune, will be delayed for I don't know how much time.  Right now school is being a b*tch, Linux class and English class are easy, but accounting class is something that was made in hell.  I have been stressing a lot lately because of that *&^#@$ class.  I can't drop it either, and if I fail it I get no more financial aid and if I don't get financial aid then there's no more school.
Anyways,  I'm quitting my job because of this.  I need some time for myself on the weekends.  Although, I have had time to practice guitar a little bit.  I learned the whole song almost good enough to play.  The only thing I need to do now is buy a computer microphone so I can record the song.  When I do it, I will post it on this board, then if eerrrr could help me, he could add more stuff to it (Because the song doesn't sound to good with just one guitar).  Well then, now I have to do homework for accounting, $#!!+.  See ya all.

General Discussion / Remake Project Story Ideas
« on: 2001-10-29 05:00:00 »
Alright, here I go then.  I hope no one tells me I did wrong, but I don't think there is anything wrong with this.
Well, I don't know what the official story for the remake project is, but in my opinion the story should take place hundreds of years before the FFVII original story.

It should concentrate on Jenova's arrival and the Cetra's past rather than making a direct prequel to the FFVII original story.  What makes FFVII's story really interesting is that it has a lot of history unexplained.  While making the story close to the FFVII story sounds tempting (like explaining Vincent Valentine's past, having Sephiroth as the main character, and so on), it should not be done.  Here is why:

-It should not affect the FFVII story.  By this I mean, who is
going to be the bad guy.  If there is someone new introduced it
should be remembered in the FFVII story.  Anything that happens
a few years before the FFVII story (lets say 20 years) cannot be
forgotten.  Therefore the story should be in a time period where
mostly everything that happens would be forgotten by the time it
gets to the FFVII story time period.

-The story should bring new ideas, and making the story close to
the FFVII story would be too predictable.

Here are some ideas and questions that should be considered for the story

    - Instead of looking at the FFVII character's background, it would be
better to investigate the world map and other events.

    -  If you look underwater, in the middle of the ocean (where the
Emerald weapon sometimes rests), there is a crater.  What made that
      crater?

    -  How was the Northern Cave created?

    -  How were the Weapons created?  Were they used before, when Jenova
       arrived probably?

    -  Who and what is Jenova?  Why did it come?  If it had a reason to
       come, did it come alone?

    -  Were the Cetras  a different race tahn the humans?  who was here
       first, Cetras or humans?

    -  Did the Cetras had a more advanced technology?  Were they
       annihilated?  By who or what?

    -  Why was Cloud the only one who responded well to Jenova's
       cells (other than Sephiroth)?

    -  Why was the Knight of the Round Materia secluded in a small remote
island?  Who put it there?  Was it meant to be protected from
       anyone?

    -  Who made the black materia and White materia?

These are only a few ideas I have in mind.  The questions are only to help out develop more ideas.  While I could make a whole story about this, I would like for everyone to mix in their own ideas in here.  In my opinion, the main character should be a Cetra and the bad guys should be Jenova (of course) and another being like Jenova.  This Jenova-like being should be destroyed and forgotten, and Jenova should be left for dead and frozen until discovered again.

I hope no one tells me that I am slow on the news, but I just read that in Japan the anime series Final Fantasy: Unlimited has been released.  It's  a new story that also takes place on earth just like the movie.  I was very excited about this because I always wanted a final fantasy anime series to come out.  I hope it's good.  I don't know much about it, so put some info in here if you know something more.  Here is the link to the site that I read this:

I found this out in one website that the original sequel to Chrono Trigger was Radical Dreamers, it is a very dull game, since it is only a text RPG.  It would however, be interesting to see how it is. The game is in Japanese, and there is no translation.  Chrono Cross is supposedly the improved version of RD.
Here is the game:

General Discussion / Final Fantasy Chronicles
« on: 2001-08-22 23:52:00 »
I went to the squaresoft website and saw that there is this game called Final Fantasy Chronicles, it is Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger "remastered", it has FMVs, new features, and other new stuff.  The thing I don't know about the games is that if its 3D like FF7 and FF8.  If anyone has more info on this please post it.  Also, wouldn't it be a bad idea for squaresoft to redo FF6.  I didn't like the fact that they just put one FMV in the beginning of FF6 in Final Fantasy Anthology.  In my opinion, FF6 is one of the best FF games (probably the best).  I guess it wouldn't hurt squresoft to make a master piece into an even better master piece. # :D
