Completely Unrelated / Need some help with Java

As I stated in the "Whats your level of experience??" thread, I'm on the path of learning Java.

Does anyone happen to have some Ebooks which could be helpful or some tutorial site?

I have a book now (Java for the Newbs, It's Dutch but it means something like that) but it doesnt seem to cover every aspect of Java.

Can someone show me a screen with and without 8 bit pallete textures enable on FF8.

I wanne see if it's worth finding a way to enable 8 bit pallete textures but if it doesnt do any significant changes i wont.

Yeah i know this is n00b to ask but does anyone even know what exactly it does?

As far as i know of, no one has had anything but fail at 8 bit pallete textures so i'd like to know what it does...

Anyone have a screenie of ff7 or ff8 with 8-bit pallete textures enabled?
