I kind of wish I didn't read this... oh well.

General Discussion / Re: FF9 for the PC?

Haha I wish, but I guess the emulator is the closest thing you'll get.

Glitches include: battle swirl, slightly off small sound, and blinky battle names when using one character. But this only happens when using compression levels 9, 8, and 6.

5
Is there any way I can accomplish this with programs? I'd like to be able to frame skip on the PC versions like you can on the emulated ePSXe versions to speed up gameplay.

6
Someone should port a copy of Before Crisis and DoC:LE to the PC as well. Ah, but you're most likely to run into legal problems.

7
Yeah I was thinking of 10X cut orsomething along those lines.

4x Cut, Master Command + Added Cut (x7) = 11x Cut

It's very possible in-game, but you were probably thinking of just shortening it up for one or two materia. This works because they're all in separate materias using the regular materia stack-up methods. The values don't seem big enough to fit all of that into one single materia. You might want to consider making them stack up via different methods.

"Ultimate Damage"
-Can be obtained by making either a summon or a magic spell use animation for Highwind, then make it quadra-magic able
9999*81*4*2=6,479,352

Ultimate damage should come from when you're able to use a spell 16 times via 5x Quadra Magic and W-Magic/W-Summon. Be aware of this particular glitch, if KOTR is Quadra Magic enabled, then you could have the following: W-Summon, Quadra Magic + KOTR, Quadra Magic + KOTR, Quadra Magic + KOTR, Quadra Magic + KOTR, Quadra Magic + KOTR.

That's 9999 * 13 * 8 * 2 = 2 079 792 for KOTR. If you wanted to make it use the Highwind animation, then it'd be: 9999 * 81 * 8 * 2 = 12 958 704 (double of what your original guess was).

I'll explain the Quadra Magic thing, don't know if it'll help with the calculations (these are were made by observation on the PSX original NA version of FF7).

I'll make this a little easier for one of the things I'm going to use instead of writing out/copy and pasting Quadra Magic + (Spell) all the time.

- 1 Set = 1 set of "Quadra Magic + (Spell)"

- #Of times cast = the number of times the spell is actually cast during the battle when you actually cast the spell (duh).

- #Of times shown (Level XX) = the number of times that the spell is shown cast on the magic screen when you go Menu (Triangle) > Materia > Check > Magic > Select Spell. Then on the right hand side of that screen, there's a ratio that'll look something like "4x: 10x". The 4x represents the actual Quadra Magic materia. It is there by default and will never change. Then the number on the right side of the ratio is the number of times that the spell is ~shown~ to be cast, this doesn't actually tell you how many times the spell is cast in the actual battle (providing that your enemy survives the attack)

The "Level xx" represents the level that Quadra Magic is at. Different levels show different numbers. You should take notice to the pattern as the levels go up.

Chart:
--------------
=>1 Set (of Quadra Magic + (Spell))

# Of times shown (Level 1): 4 (usable once during battle)

# Of times shown (Level 2): 4 (usable twice during battle)

# Of times shown (Level 3): 4 (useable three times during battle)

Then just double anything with W-Summon or W-Magic.

EDIT: Oh yeah, about about that reflect thing... remember you can only reflect a spell 4 times then reflect is gone. You can't reflect summons either.

I also forgot about the thing you can do, use Mime + Quadra Magic and Counter + Mime instead and you can actually Mime Highwind 16 times providing it was the last move you did. Have a couple of Hero Drinks and you've got something.

It was fun the first time when being overleveled, but then I kind of grew to like FF8's system where the enemies' levels were around the same as yours for the entire game. It kept the challenge in the game for the entire game... well nearly the entire game.

It also might be better to give some enemies new attacks with that new AI because most enemy attacks suck, don't see the point in making them smarter if their attacks aren't up to par with that as well.

Works fine on my AMD64 3800+ X2 with Radeon 9800 Pro. I forget which patches I applied, but it should work fine with the regular XP/Chocobo patches.

I heard of a patch for 64-bit, but I never got up to the point where I needed to use it yet. No problems encountered so far.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / FF7 Damage Formulas?
« on: 2004-08-12 07:02:41 »
Well thanks. I guess I should have looked around more before posting this.

I don't want to alter the in-game mechnics. Just wanted to know if the actual formula could be found directly into the game. Or did it have to be pieced together?

Is there any way you'd be able to locate the formulas inside of the game for physical damage calculation? I'm guessing that the files could be compressed.

General Discussion / Emulators?
« on: 2004-08-04 18:42:11 »
Oh, I see. Where can I find them?

Okay, I have the correct video now.

But now I'm getting the error message: "ePSXe is NOT completely configured go to config > bios to configure"

How would you get the ePSXe emulator to work properly? I tried running it from CD but it said "ePSXe is NOT completely configured go to config > video to configure it"

I went there but couldn't chose any options. Any help?

Archive / FF6 In Battle Text Editing
« on: 2004-07-19 19:01:13 »
The Hex Editor I always used is called Cygnus. So far I haven't found anything in there with it either. Any idea on how I can get to the files TO edit them? Sorry, I just started this and would need a little more explanation.

Archive / FF6 In Battle Text Editing
« on: 2004-07-19 00:43:54 »
I wanted to edit some text in FF6/3 ROM version of the game. Like in the battle with the first boss, Whelk where Vicks and Wedge are talking about its attributes. I've been using some text editors from Zophar's Domain and even did extensive searching for ones that would work.  So I can edit the rest of FF6's text, but can't edit the in battle text.

Assistance would be appreciated.
