Windows7 for $30!
« on: 2009-12-13 22:06:07 »
I picked up this info from one of the gaming boards i'm regularly on. It's a fantastic deal w/no strings. The only thing you need is a valid .edu email address and a credit card. I ordered mine last week and save $150 dollars.

you can pick between the Home or Professional editions, and they both come with 32-bit and 64-bit. They are full retail copies, not the upgrades. Some users have reported having trouble with certain sales people, if they give you any gruff just hang up and call back.

tip: get the professional version, home lack XP virtualization and a bunch of other things

also, i think this is only available to people in the states. Sorry guys :(

Merry Christmas!!
Lee

Recently I saw a posting about digital river offering 29.99 for anyone with a student email address. You had to go to the website and choose which version and whether or not you wanted the 64bit or 32 bit upgrade. I placed the order and then called Microsoft Store to cancel my previous preorder. When I told they why the said they can offer me the full retail version at the same price. I signed up and canceled my order with digital river.

Here is what you do:
1. Make sure you have a valid email address with .edu
2. Call 1-877-696-7786
3. Tell them you want to purchase the full retail version of either Home Premium or Professional. Why anyone would not choose Pro is beyond me.

For an extra $5 you can purchase the disk otherwise it is a digital download.

Enjoy a full retail version of Windows 7 for only 30 bucks!

It isn't just for people in the States!

The offer applies here in Britain as well, but Microsoft has an even more interesting interpretation of $->£ exchange rates than Sony. It's £30.

BTW, old news is old :-P

sorry, i just found out about this and figured i'd let other people peek out from their rocks to get a good deal.  Wierd how they made the euro and dollar equal in their pricing.... that makes no sense at all.

that's crazy. The pound has been... well pounding the dollar for quite sometime now.  Guess they figure they can grab a few extra bucks while their at it.

It's been pounding the dollar since the dollar was invented :-D

They also want to sell Office to students for the "low" price of £40. I think I'll just download Open Office and pay nothing, if it's all the same to them. :-P

Huh, I got Win 7 Ultimate for $7.50 by buying it at my college bookstore. I advise college students check their bookstores before buying it online, because they often have it cheaper. The only thing is, at many of these stores you have to ask, because they don't keep it out in plain site. You also probably won't get the retail packaging, just the disc and a serial.

Only downside for me was that I didn't get any choices whatsoever. All they offered was Ultimate 32-bit (which I wanted anyway, but still the ability to choose Professional or 64-bit would have been nice).

the only downside is you cannot get Ultimate through this deal, though i don't need it.
The only differences between it and Professional i've found are added security, but not really functionality.  But it would be cool to have since it's neamed "Ultimate".

My college doesn't offer Win7 at the bookstores, so this a no-brainer for me.

You could say that this discussion is "completely unrelated". :-D

a few people have be told this as well, but they called back numerous times until they finally got someone who would let them buy the retail version.
I got lucky and they gave it to me on the first try.
