Releases / Re: [REL/FF8] Project SeeD (FF8 GUI overhaul)
« on: 2012-08-02 01:26:14 »
I've just started this and am trying to get it all working... I'm not sure I have it, though...

Here's an image of my Config menu, to compare to the one shown on the first page:
http://www.wspentertainment.com/ff8/FF8%202012-08-01%2021-17-03-50.jpg

Also, here's an error I get on the title screen (also mentioned by someone else in this thread, here):
http://www.wspentertainment.com/ff8/FF8%202012-08-01%2021-22-38-10.jpg

For good measure, here is my config file:
http://www.wspentertainment.com/ff8/ff8_opengl.cfg

My directory is as follows:
- Game is installed to C:\Games\FF8
- I have a directory there called mods
- Inside mods is data
- Inside data is eng
- Inside eng is menu
- Inside menu is a ton of PNGs as well as a folder called hires with even more PNGs

Lastly, I DO have "Use High Res Fonts" checked in FF8Config.exe

EDIT: For some reason, my screenshots (taken via Fraps hotkey) are 640x480, whereas it looks like the screenshot of the same Config menu on the first post is much larger. This is odd, since the game is running at full screen for me (it also makes comparing them difficult), and I use the FF8_Launcher (v1.31) to start the game, selecting 1920x1080 for Display Mode. Not sure if any of this is relevant (even if it does confuse me), but just trying to include as much info as I can for a resolution :)

EDIT2: I also get this error whenever a random battle occurs:
http://www.wspentertainment.com/ff8/FF8%202012-08-01%2022-13-51-00.jpg

I updated those links:

ff8_launcher_v1.31.r9-source.rar         Hazeno           FF8 Configuration and Launch Tool Source      Qhimm FILE

FF8Launcher.rar                          Phun             Launches Game with Plugins                    Qhimm FILE MIRROR

Thanks a bunch, PitBrat.

The first link (FILE) is still not working, though. I grabbed the third link (by Phun) and tried using that instead, but I'm still getting black boxes in the credits FMV that plays when I load the game for the first time. I searched Google for "ffviii black boxes" and was led to this thread:
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=a19ad45707214955a18217a0d07046f2&topic=7248.0

Different poster name than Hazeno, but wondered if it's the same, since it references a 1.31 version of the file. Unfortunately, the 1.31 version on the URL I just provided ALSO does not work any longer.

Anyone have either the Hazeno ff8_launcher_v1.31.zip or the one linked to in the thread above (again, maybe they're the same)? I'm very eager to kick off FFVIII! :)

Thanks so much!

Releases / Re: Re: Final Fantasy VIII mods
« on: 2012-08-01 22:40:36 »
Just trying to start the install of this and am downloading mods while I try to figure out how to do that in Windows 7 (it's not even installing, but that's a separate issue). In the meantime, a few of the above links are dead:

eax.dll                                                   Sound Driver                                        http://www.mediafire.com/?z5dnh57jv3on9pe
FF8 - Patch 1.2 for GeForce Users (US).zip                Official 1.2 Patch for Geforce (US)                 http://www.mediafire.com/?n8ih45wq7i2v4q3

Check out the List of FF8 Mods.

That's actually how I got to this page... the link there (http://www.mediafire.com/?b5i1ei1ijfwey36) didn't work, so I came to the thread hoping for a new one. I also tried that link in Chrome and Firefox but get told there's an error.  :|

5
Hi, all - sorry for the necrobump, but none of the above links to this were working. I got errors for each page (file no longer exists). Anyone have a new link for this?

6
I'm about to start this game, I'd love if this was usable!

General Discussion / FFVIII/FF8 Mods?
« on: 2012-08-01 14:59:14 »
Hi, all!

I just beat FFVII last night, as part of my goal of playing all the FF single-player games this year in chronological order, one each month. That means onwards to FFVIII!

One of the things that led me here back at the start of July was how awful FFVII looked on my 55" HDTV using my PS1 discs in my PS3. I ended up installing Tifa's Bootleg mod for FFVII PC and, other than a few technical snags along the way, I had a blast.

Last night, I loaded up FFVIII in my PS3 using my old PS1 discs just to see the graphics qualities. I thought it might look better, since there had been a graphics update from VII to VIII on their original release. How wrong I was! It looked even worse than VII somehow -- totally pixelated! So now I'm looking into FFVIII for PC again. I poked around the forums here and also on GameFAQs -- which in turn said to just ask here, so here I am.

Is there anything similar to Tifa's Bootleg for FFVIII? Or any collection (or singular, even) mods? I saw a sticky thread about "The big list of FFVII mods" but don't see anything like that for FFVIII. I don't know if I just couldn't find them, or if they don't exist. Maybe it looks okay on PC? Not sure. I know that FFVII had different music in its PC version, so I had used an original music pack that replaced the PC version with the original PS1 music; don't know what the FFVIII situation is on this end, however.

I know I asked several questions in that last paragraph, but I'm at work now and hoping to figure out what to do regarding FFVIII when I get home tonight, so I figured I'd post everything running through my mind here and see what the deal is.

Thank you in advance for any assistance!

Solved Problems / Re: Shinra Mansion Safe
« on: 2012-07-17 02:13:28 »
So does it all work now as it should?

I didn't have a chance to test out the safe, but I made it to Cid's town and the numbers showed up right there during a flashback sequence, so... who knows, really lol...

On the other hand, for some reason, anytime I get into a random battle with Yuffie (as in, a party member, not when trying to recruit her, which seems to be when I see (via search) that most people have experienced issues with her), the game freezes (she actually is invisible!), so I can't use her, and I therefore can't do the Wutai sidequest... but I'll have to tackle that tomorrow by maybe using the vanilla version to get through that stuff.

Just want to hop in here one last time.

First, thanks for your reply DLPB. It was as definitely (finally) in-depth, and I'll refer to it should I require it in the future.

See, I actually just re-installed the game from scratch into a new folder. I copied the vanilla install to a backup folder as well, then ran the Bootleg mod over the new install folder. Everything appears to be back to how it was prior to the Junon Parade/Shinra Safe issue. Should I run into a similar issue in the future, I need only load the vanilla game up and load my save from there (theoretically, lol). I'll see how this goes for now. :)

Thanks again!

http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11649.0

You need to start reading before posting.  It is all there.  Do not use bootleg.  Who knows if the error is on his part?  No one, if you keep using it.  Use that installer there on its own.

I don't use bootleg. Use the MO last.  After everything else, and before you do, delete the backup-dlpb folder.  That will keep everything up to that point.  Start with a clean flevel and clean ff7.exe 1.02

I'm sorry, but this post really didn't help me. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to read the thread you linked to and suddenly ascertain via epiphany what the solution to my issues described above are, but it didn't happen. I originally installed FF7 and used Bootleg (which ran MO.exe as part of the process), so that's already a factor in its overall installation. Now, I can run MO.exe separately again, but the Bootleg stuff still happened. And, when I did run MO.exe separately, selecting just the battle menu option in an attempt to fix that, I lost pretty much every other modification in the process. You keep replying with short answers, and I understand your frustration with dealing with people having problems that just can't seem to figure it out, but you aren't being very direct in your tech support, either. I mean, at one point, I asked where I get a "clean FF7.exe" and, again, you just referred me to that thread and said I wasn't reading it. I read the first two posts, didn't see that answered. Maybe it's somewhere in the other 53 pages of posts? Come on.
And the thing about MO is that there is no thread as awesomely put together as this one http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13212.msg183580#msg183580 so that I don't even know what the options in MO.exe are affecting when I choose them; it's more of a random series of hoping things work out when I check things off, and that's just not up to snuff via this other thread that goes in-depth about the various elements contained within. Just continuously pointing me to it as if just plain reading it would solve every issue is erroneous as well. I mean, I see the "rules" and stuff, and it looks like MO.exe should be done all by itself... but I'm past that point now. So what am I supposed to do, uninstall everything, reinstall fresh, then run JUST MO.exe? And then I still don't know what each option actually does in order to get my game looking as it did pre-Shinra mansion. Having used Bootleg handled everything fine up until that point, and while I understand you wanting me to just run MO.exe by itself because Bootleg's myriad options may contain a problem that overrides what MO is doing, running MO.exe thus far (after the fact) just keeps making things worse, and now that thread you link to doesn't really answer my issues this deep in.

While I appreciate the fact that you've at least been responding, it isn't working out. I see that this particular forum is "Troubleshooting;" maybe someone else can jump in with some assistance. In the meantime, I'll keep fumbling around and hoping various trial & error methods lead to a solution on my own.

You have not read the readme or FAQ on the menu overhaul thread or followed instructions not to use bootleg when debugging your problem.

Do all of that and get back to me.  The fault is at your end.  You are not doing something properly.

Can you link me to this FAQ? I'm not sure I understand what you are driving at... If I needed MO.exe for the Shinra safe issue, and placed it in the Bootleg folder, shouldn't all be fixed then when I ran Bootleg, since it uses that same MO.exe? Also, I didn't even know what settings to use when running MO.exe for the specific fix I needed here (any tips?). Lastly, the battle menu got screwed up and now I don't even know the name of what I previously was using to try to get that back.

If I use just MO, it loses some of my settings from when I originally used Bootleg (mostly avatars but also battle issues). When I run Bootleg, I get the safe numbers issue (and now the battle menu too). Is there no way to keep/fix all?

FWIW, copied from above, because I was editing while you replied:

Quote
Just ran JUST MO.exe after the above, selected JUST "FFX battle style" (no idea if that's the fix for above but figured I'd try it). Not only did it not fix it, I lost nearly every other mod in the process. Guess I'll have to re-run the whole Bootleg thing again to get them back. Just still not sure 1) what setting to get the battle menus as they were (see screenshot above), or 2) how to, at the same time, ensure the countdowns for everything (Junon, Shinra Mansion Safe, and wherever else in the future they appear) also show up on screen.

Anyway, as I said, I'll have to try at this again tomorrow morning. Just so frustrating at this point. Gotta get my mind off this for now.

Chiming back in here again. I'm following along the guy before me, because it looks like same thing is happening. I made my last post and had verified the safe numbers showed up (as screenshot shows). The boss fight then initiated. I paused it and headed for church, followed by a cookout. When I got back, my PC was off. Weird but whatever. Anyway, just restarted the game, opened safe, initiated boss fight, and the game froze in the battle. Battle menu was also messed up, as previous poster said.

I see he was told to grab a fresh ff7.exe... where do I get that? I looked on the FF7 disc that I grabbed the flevel.lgp from but there does not appear to be a ff7.exe file there...

EDIT: While waiting for a reply, I actually tossed that updated MO.exe in the same file as the Bootleg and re-ran it, thinking perhaps it would configure everything as it should be, using the newest MO.exe since that was what was suggested in this thread in the first place. While it basically fixed the avatar issue, the safe numbers are now back in their un-visible spot. So I guess that won't work, and I have to manually run MO.exe separate from Bootleg. I just don't know what options I NEED to check off when I run MO.exe just to fix this (as I don't want to touch anything else). And then, of course, is the crashing of the game come battle time. /sigh

EDIT #2: Despite the numbers being messed up, I was able to open the safe after some trial and error as to what each number actually was as I scrolled through them. Fought the boss, won, saved. So, at the very least, I am past this part, despite the numbers situation not being resolved. And, being that it's come up twice now so far (Junon parade and this safe incident), I assume there are more incidents awaiting me in the future  :|

Also, my battle menu now looks like this:
http://i49.tinypic.com/33faxkx.jpg

When it used to look like this:
http://i46.tinypic.com/10onu5j.jpg
(Bottom right of each screenshot)

Eek.

EDIT #3: Ran JUST MO.exe after the above, selected JUST "FFX battle style" (no idea if that's the fix for above but figured I'd try it).

I'm done for the night, though. :(

delete the backup-dlpb folder, and then make sure a clean flevel.lgp is placed in data/field folder.  Then run again.

I deleted the backup-dlpb folder from C:\Program Files (x86)\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII, then copied the flevel.lgp file from disc (D:\ff7\field\flevel.lgp) to C:\Program Files (x86)\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\data\field, then ran the MO.exe I had downloaded again (July 2012), then started the game up and same problem.

EDIT: I then thought maybe your "run again" only applied to the game, so I recopied that clean flevel.lgp and then ran the game. Got this:

Not perfect, but definitely acceptable - thanks!

(Now I just need to get my AC avatars back  )

This thread explains everything.  Download M05c and install it.  The file is not down, use a different browser if the current one does not work.

Thanks for the quick reply. I assume(d) you meant this thread here:
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11649.0

Downloaded it, installed it. Once it was done installing, I booted FF7 up again (I used FF7Music to start the game, dunno if that matters), loaded my save (noticing my custom AC avatars were replaced by originals, but figured no biggie, I can re-add them via the BFE after this stupid safe), and was in front of the safe. Went to open it again... got the same look as the screenshot I posted in my last thread  :|

I believe I am also having similar issues as described here... Here's a screenshot of what's going on for me right now:

http://i45.tinypic.com/29cs0ea.jpg

For what it's worth, this same thing happened for me during the Jeuno parade sequence, where I could not see the TV ratings. There, I just exited out of the game and reloaded it, redoing the sequence repeatedly without knowing how good a job I was doing until it would end. Luckily, it is a 30-second game sequence (other than the exit game and restart it - is there by chance a "soft reset" to go back to the "Continue?" screen?)

Anyway, this time, I can't even see the numbers for the safe, so it's a bit more troublesome. Also, I did read every post in this thread. Admittedly, most of the terms were foreign to me, but I also clicked the Google Docs link for the file and got a blank page, so not sure if the file is down or what. Then again, I'm not sure if that's the fix I need, either!

Regardless, this thread title seems to apply to my situation, so... yeah. Help? :)

16
My guess would be to try tapping X instead of O

...wow, that was it. How weird and random. I feel a bit stupid, but thank you so much :)

17
The CTRL+F3/F4 won't turn it off... I have the .dll in my LOADR folder, too, and my ff7_opengl.cfg file has

# Load Multiple DLLs
load_library = Multi.dll

Even in Bootleg config options, I see that I had the Toggle option checked off.

Ugh, so annoyed. I just want to play :(

EDIT: I changed the Multi.dll line to read FF7AlwaysRunKranmer.dll instead so at least I could try just that out. It made CTRL+F3 disable my autorun, as I noticed immediately; I even got a popup confirmation and could see the change in-game. However, I then ran over to the fall-down-the-tracks part again and... same thing happened. I tried on both places you can fall down, too -- same exact issue as originally described, even with autorun off.

:|

18
What updated Cloud model are you using?

Using Cloud with Sword at the moment. Is that the issue? Why would it prevent the actual model from moving right to left, even if the animation of the panicking isn't built into the updated model? And, if it is the issue, can I disable it without screwing up the game, then renable it later?

Hoping to continue where I left off tonight at Mount Corel, if only I can get this issue resolved. Otherwise, I'm stuck  :|

Solved Problems / Mount Corel - can't "steer" when falling
« on: 2012-07-11 01:56:06 »
I'm at the part where I run across railroad tracks. I cross a part where I fall and hold to the left and repeatedly tap circle, but nothing happens. I don't move to the left at all. In fact, I looked up on two different Youtube videos to see what was supposed to happen and they each show Cloud moving around as he crashes to the ground.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWxAccvMPU8&#t=12m44s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FteBW7RLZMA#t=9m48s

In my game, when he falls, he just drops straight down, without any "panicking" movement or anything. Only when the next screen shows up (where I inevitably fall to the middle since I wasn't able to steer Cloud) do I see the panicky motion.

I'm not sure if the lack of movement is perhaps due to the upgraded visuals and someone maybe not programming Cloud to move during that sequence, or maybe related to an "Always Run" mod, or something else, but the bottom line is that I can't steer Cloud during that fall.

Anyone have any ideas? I want to get the Wizard Staff and Star Pendant that are to the right and left of the fall!

Thanks.

Well, I was using Windows 7, not Vista. But I reinstalled the whole thing and it seems to be working now. Only things I changed in the Bootleg Settings before clicking Run Bootleg was that I chose "Cloud with Sword" instead of "Cloud without Sword" for Cloud Field Model in the Player tab and, in the Models tab, I went with "Bootlegged (Best of Show)" instead of "Squallff8's Rebuilded (Full)" for Base Field Models. Not sure if either of those was the culprit, but it was working last night and amazing me at every turn. Let's hope this is resolved! :)

Hi, all,

I'm in the same boat as the original poster. I spent about 6 or 7 hours today downloading every single mod, just in case I wanted to toggle between a few! I followed the Tifa's Bootleg tutorial thread completely. I can even supply which boxes I toggled and all that (EDIT: See below). The start movie is just fine for me, everything else really is but, when the first battle starts, the HP is fine but the game freezes. Not sure why, or what to toggle off or to a different mod. Any advice? I'm itching to play this badly!

EDIT: There's definitely something funky going on. I rebooted just in case that was a potential issue, as well as so FFVII would basically be the only program running. I even closed down anything in the systray, including AVG antivirus and then tried again. This time, I accessed the in-game menu, hoping for at least a Save due to a Save Anywhere I thought I'd turned on, but it was greyed out. That's when I noticed the crazy text (see screenshots below). Then, as soon as I mosey'd into that first battle, the same thing happened for the third time: freezed.

I also armed up FRAPS for some screenshots:
http://www.wspentertainment.com/pics/ffvii/

Text is all kinds of condensed for some reason. For the sake of (hopeful) expediency in resolving this, I've included my settings as follows:
-  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium with an ATI Radeon 5700 graphics card on a 1080p monitor. The game is installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII and Bootlader is set up at C:\Users\Jason\Games\Bootleg
